well today we ended up going out to "kuaka" and the bitch wouldn't start - well that's why we went out there because she wouldn't start last time, we thought she might have flat batteries, but checked them, checked the terminals and all the connections, and the old bitch just wasn't interested. Some nice kind person had moved our dinghy from it's usual place on the beach and had removed the bung - you know, the thing in the arse-end of dinghy which stops it from sinking - luckily we noticed before we loaded her up and set off. God there are some scumbags around. Someone had been on board as there were bits of fishing lines tied on, looks like someone had sat on the boat with their fishing rod and while they were there had tied some hand lines on for a better chance of a fish, and then had just cut the lines when they left.

Going to have an early night tonight, and tomorrow might even get some housework done.

Night ladies.

sorry your boat is not feeling well kuaka, is the cabin locked so no one can get in??? I was a bit off yesterday so only did a small amount of knitting, got a order for a nappies stacking bag, so working that out in my head now. that head of mine is so full of ideas makes it hard to sleep at night, got the kids today happy times. miss not having a inside cat, just a pitty patty poop on the bed,

morning!
Now that's just bloody cheeky kuaka! And just as well you noticed the bung gone too. Yep, there are scumbags out there - my son will tell you that too as there is still no sign (not that we expect that sadly) of his motorbike.
The Furry One has recovered from his scratched eye in spite of us not being able to put the cream on it as often as we should. He was in pain and cranky so we forgive him of course. Vet follow up tomorrow morning (that will be another $75, thank you!).
We had a teeny bit of rain, it had better rain more than that lol as those few drops won't go far.
Started a circular 10 stitch blanket last night, I want to use my little stash up. Managed to get some stitching done yesterday but spent most of my time sorting my threads again as I had put them all away neatly back into the boxes. Luckily I still had all the blended threads on bobbins - must have known I would go back to it 'one day'.
Am going outside to weed for a bit before it gets too hot first - MrK can handle the dishes lol.
Happy knitting :)

morning ladies, we had some rain last night and through the night and again this morning and it doesn't look as though it's finished yet, which is a bit of a nuisance as I need to sweep the yellow carpet of totara leaves off the driveway and it's hard going when the leaves are wet.

Had a pleasant surprise last night to find I've sold a tea cosy on a US website and it's already paid for and it's going to France.

Better get me a into g and do some tidying up before the ladies arrive this afternoon, and I have to pop into town to post my tea cosy, so will pick up something for afternoon tea save me having to bake. Must be getting lazy in my old age.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning
It's lovely and cool here at the moment but no definate rain which is what we really really need.
Good to hear that the furry one is well on the mend Kiwimade now just need to get poor "kuaka" on the mend too - how cheeky using her for fishing and leaving a mess as well.
Not a lot of knitting at the moment - Niece getting married on Saturday so house cleaned +++ ready for visitors who arrive later in the week, have pile of baking to do and no doubt some babysitting while she gets organized - has 3 little ones (I know back to front lol) They live in Wellington but are getting married in the bay as both set of parents live here. All busy but fun time.
Happy knitting when you can fit it in everyone

Morning everyone..
Wow Kuaka that just sucks eh... cheeky b*ggers.. Glad you noticed tho.
Glad the furry one is on the mend Kiwimade.
I know what you are feeling Carole I often have things running round in my head. But until the blanket and Santas are done I wont start anything new.
Taking MrP to the drs this morning. HIs foot is just getting worse instead of better. The bruising is changing but its also coming out worse in other places and its hard to walk. Will be covered by ACC so hopefully they will send him for an xray to be sure too.
I did it again lol knitted two right feet, lol, but have fixed that and am half way up the tummy. Actually did some on my blanket last night while I watched downton abbey.
Warm here and I think it will rain later, but none as yet.
Have a good day all

morning ladies :) Off to the V-E-T (spelling it as The Furry One just knows lol) for a follow up visit very shortly, we are the first appointment of the day so a quick visit and no waiting. His eye looks good to us but nice to have it all confirmed.

My cross stitch is painfully slow as Tereza Wenztler (sp) patterns are intricate and use loads of colours so lots of stopping and starting. Am determined to get it done though.

Have some sewing to do today - my sister dropped some of her tops off to be altered -'cos you don't have much to do'. Did laugh at her and told her I have heaps to do but i will 'squeeze them in'. Only sisters can get away with that ;)

I'm going to start the next section of the garden and pull out the groundcover and revamp it. I have mentally split the garden into bits and revamping each bit, one at a time.

I started knitting a circular 10 stitch blanket last night and am using all my scrappy bits of stash. I can do it at night when my eyesight isn't too good at cross stitch.

Hope MrP had a good result at the docs yesterday popeye.

happy knitting :)

ha kiwimade, you have to laugh at people - you're right only a sister could get away with a comment like that. Mr K always says if you want something done ask a busy person. My favourite is when someone gives you a complicated pattern (knitted or sewing) and says "it's easy, it won't take you long" and I've learned now to say "well if it's so quick and easy, you can do it yourself". That usually shuts them up.'

It's a bit cooler today and overcast, no idea what the forecast is, but it doesn't "feel" like rain is imminent, so I think I will wander down to "knit and natter" - I might take some owl eyes to crochet, seeing as I need to do something I don't have to concentrate on too much, or I might take my 10 stitch blanket. I meant to put up a pic of the previous one I did, so I'll do that now before I forget.

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/294280526.jpg - in progress

and finished

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/294280623.jpg

I really enjoyed doing it, and I have discovered that you can actually add another stripe to the beginning if you want to.

Morning..
Kuaka I love that version of the ten stitch blanket. Is is available online.. Love the colours too. I have the same in my bathroom lol.
Good luck at the V.E.T Kiwimade... We used to have to spell it too when the furry ones were younger lol

MrPs foot. Well we learnt something new. gout can evolve from Trauma. So dr suspects that and put him on Prednisone, which has whacked up his sugars but we know whats causing it so its not too bad. Off for an xray tomorrow just to be sure .
Apparently roughly 6 days after the accident is about the time when the gout can set in.,And that's exactly when it did. Poor thing no wonder its more sore now than when he first did it.
Got our piddly power rebate yesterday. Only $120 this year. But I can still get our money back. Will ring up for that later today. Better than nothing tho.
More work on Mrs Claus today... I want to get back to my blanket.. I did some at the med centre.
Have a good day, no sign of rain here either lol

morning ladies :) well the rain came over our way carole :D and I'm loving it. Keeps the pollen count down so I'm not sneezing as much which is a bonus. Buggar about your gardening lady, hopefully you can find another soon.
Will do the mending on my sister's tops today and get them out of the way and I need to buy some more thread for my cross stitch. Am feeling inspired now that I'm back into the 'swing' of stitching it again.
Did a bit more on the circular 10 stitch blanket, I can see this is going to be an on-again-off-again project but my smaller scrappy bits of yarn/wool are slowly being used.
Happy knitting - tomorrow I'll be blonde lol - hair colour today!

Not good re the gardener Carole. We are looking for a new one too.

Everyone is busy busy., Im working flat tack on the santas... then once that's done Ill slow down a little and enjoy what Im doing.

Taking MrP for his xray this morning. The prednisone is working, but nasty on his sugar levels.

Stay dry and enjoy the day everyone

popeye - can I cheekily ask for a bit of advice re the stuffing of a knitted toy- I have very carefully knitted all the pieces of a little cotton rabbit - the knitting is tight but I am not sure how full to stuff its belly - do I stuff it hard like a ball? I have made lots of cloth dolls but have never knitted a toy before - thanks

gerry64 - 2013-11-28 14:01:00
2873

Hi Gerry, I stuff my toys till very firm. I like my toys to be able to stand up on their own.
Once you start seeing the stuffing its time to stop basically. Put a little less in if you want it for a cuddly toy tho.
One thing I do is use a big darning needle and I poke it into the toy and move the stuffing with it. So you can get smooth surfaces and even out the stuffing a little.
I love doing toys but the stuffing gives my arthritic fingers gip if I do too much at a time.. check back next week and Ill be nursing sore fingers I bet.

Another tip I always leave long threads when I cast on and off. That way I don't have to cut and knot threads for sewing. its already there. I just fold it up and tie a soft knot in it.
I buy cheap pillows for stuffing. Much better value than buying stuffing from spotlight etc.
Hope that helps

morning :) I'm blonde today... well chocolate brown as the main colour with blonde streaks through the brown. Looks and feels great and even MrK loves it!
It's cold this morning, that wind is really chilly but a good day to be working outside. Nothing like a bit of cold to keep you moving!
I'm beavering away on this circular 10 stitch blanket and have an idea burning away in the back of my mind how to use it... need to think it through a bit more.
Starting the revamp on the next bit of garden today, then stitching/knitting later.
Have a good one :)

Morning All. I think we will have it all today. We have blue sky dark sky and a nice breeze.
Good luck for the tests Carole. Im lucky to be blessed with good veins. Only ever had trouble once.
Glad you love your hair Kiwimade. sometimes Id love to have mine dyed properly but it grows that dammed fast I cant afford to keep the roots done.

If Id just hurry up and go snow white.

Only have the shawl pockets and candy cane left to knit on Mrs Claus and then I cant start to put them together.
Don't think a lot will get done today tho. Have to nip up the road to do some banking. A friends workmate is selling hogget for $60 a side so I will put the money in her account. Shes getting the other side. I think $120 for a whole hogget is a good buy. Hope its a decent size.
Could end up going back to Pukekohe to get other meat too as our first refund of credit is back.

Have a good day everyone

Morning everyone... Its nice here now, the heat of the night has gone out the window. Hoping it will stay cool tho cos Im baking this morning.. 4 dozen fruit mince pies.
I have decided that next year I will bake them and the cake in the middle of winter. It will be a lot easier.
But I love baking so will enjoy it. Ive put a big fan up on the breakfast bar which will help.
I have finished knitting the Santas. So will start putting them together when Im too sore to stand any more lol.
Spose its time to write some cards out too. Cant believe how fast this month and year has flown by.
Carole what about getting a new puddy cat from the SPCA maybe. I imagine at this time of year they easy get people taking kittens but not the more mature ones.
Have a good day all. Im off to the kitchen.

popeye333 - 2013-11-30 08:27:00
2881

carolev - there's always heaps of kittens "free to good homes" available around Christmas time, as they seem to breed like rabbits in summer. A kitten from the SPCA is another option, although I believe they are not free, as they come fully vet checked, vaccinated, wormed etc and with a coupon to get them neutered at a discounted price, but I have heard that all up they aren't cheap from the SPCA.

Cooler here today, but not cold. Yesterday I mowed one of my lawns and did some weeding, had a flying visit from my son, and he brought me a new magnetic woolrest which I had bought on here back in the winter and he'd picked up for me. It weighs a ton. So I was keen to put that on the bed, so made the bed up with clean sheets etc and then did 3 loads of washing, which I put out late yesterday afternoon and evening, and it was all dry before I went to bed, so will bring it in soon. Think I might go and waste a bit more money on groceries this morning, and see if the wool I bought on here a few days ago has arrived yet - naughty I know, I wasn't going to buy any more wool til my stash has depleted, but it was a bargain, and I can't resist a bargain.

Going to try to finish a couple of tea cosies I've got on the go and then get back to my tunic. Thought I'd have that finished by the end of this month. Not to worry, it's not as though I need it till next winter.

I agree popeye, this year has gone so quick, unbelievable. At least it's not snowing. I remember my daughter was Christened on 30th Nov and when we went into the church the sky looked very "heavy" and when we came out it had snowed so hard we didn't think we would make it home. (this was in the UK of course)

Well ladies, have a great day, happy knitting and baking.

morning :) Just spent some time outside pulling out this damed growndcover, started to rain so came in, now suns out so will pop outside again soon.
I need to get baking too popeye, will get organised next week after I have finished weeding. A couple more mornings will get it done.
Been stitching away in the afternoons and slowly but surely making some headway.
Happy knitting :)

A productive morning foe everyone by the sounds of it. we have big winds, but nice and cooling. One tiny shower of rain.
4 dozen fruit pies made. and cos I put extra fruit in I made two fat tarts for our pudding. Ill make a bit of custard to go with it.
I still have 5 kilos of bacon ends to slice up. $28 so I don't mind slicing it up. it goes a long way and theres nothing wrong with it.Must tell sister in law not to bring any when they come.
Will start sewing up the santas when Im finished here. And relax a bit. While the landlords daughter cleans the guttering. I wouldn't want to be up there in the wind we have. Im sure she will have a helper with her tho.

Have a good afternoon

popeye333 - 2013-11-30 12:12:00
2884

Popeye thanks for your help -all the bits are stuffed so next step is having a go at embroidering the face -old boy reckons head looks more like a mouse than a rabbit so might fiddle with it a big more

gerry64 - 2013-11-30 12:45:00
2885

Smack the old boy lol.

Well done. It takes practice more than anything for faces etc. Thankfully most of the toys I make have hats or hair so any knots from stitching is hidden.
Im about to go offline and start sewing my santa and Mrs Claus up.

popeye333 - 2013-11-30 12:54:00
2886

spent day sewing BUT my machines packed up again. new gardener came we both helped her as she has never done it before , what a mission the wind blow big time so only got 1/4 done

carolev - 2013-11-30 16:49:00
2887

what a pain in the bum carolev about your machine. They always seem to pack a sad when you want to do a lot of sewing, I think it's Murphy's law of sewing machines.

I mowed another of our lawns (they are all pocket-hanky sized). This one I do with the petrol mower, and it takes me longer to get into my old clothes, go downstairs, get the mower out, check the oil, fill with petrol and put it away again than it actually takes to do the mowing. Looks much better now though. Maybe tomorrow I'll do another one, or at least do a session on the blower vac and get rid of all the totara leaves off the driveway - again. Only did it on Tuesday and I've got a yellow carpet there again.

And I managed to do some crochet, but my wrist is sore now so I will give it a rest. Might go and have a wee medicinal brandy.

Keep knitting ladies.

morning all. just doing the washing , was not the right day yesterday so have to do it now. had new gardening girl yesterday , let you read between the lines. the cat , she stays outside 90% of the time. brought her own breakfast in and spilled it on the carpet, luck T found it and cleaned it up. nearly finished number 9 shrug ,have grandkids today

carolev - 2013-12-01 07:12:00
2889

yuck, so did the cat have bird or mouse for breakfast? Bit overcast and cooler here this morning, we had some drizzle yesterday evening. Not sure what I'll do today, there's more lawns need doing and I haven't finished the waterblasting of the decks yet, might do some of that and see if I can't get it almost finished. I can't finish the staining of the decks as I'm almost out of stain and have to go and buy some more.

With a bit of luck we'll be having fresh snapper for tea, I'm expecting (hoping) my son will call in on his way back to Auckland and bring us some which will be lovely if he does, seeing as we haven't been able to get out fishing for so long.

And I hope to get the second tea cosy finished today and I've just remembered that years ago my sister gave me a kit to knit a Christmas wreath which someone had given her and she couldn't be bothered to knit. I just might try to do it, it's got lace knitted in which I've never done before, but it can't be "that" difficult, can it?

Have a lovely relaxing day ladies, it is Sunday after all.

Morning everyone...
Im confused re the cat Carole lol...I didn't realise you had got another one or am I totally confused.
WIndy here again which is lovely. Cant tell what the rest of the weather will do tho.
I have a date with MrP this morning. Hes one of these blokes that cannot cut his own fingernails, so when they need doing or when he needs a haircut, we make a date. We don't seem to forget that way. If we say we will do it tomorrow etc we forget lol.
Have to pop up the road after that when come home and slice up 5 kilos of bacon ends. or until my hand gives up for the day.
Santa is just needing his arms on, I forgot to knit the holly and berrys so will do those. Put them on the hat and then sew that and his beard on and hes finished. Im ahead of my schedule so that's pleasing.

Have a wonderfull day all.

morning ladies! lol carole, yep, I remember those days and half eaten rabbits!
I've been outside for the last three hours digging out the last of the groundcover. The ground is all prepared for new planting. Looks very bare but won't be for long.
Am going to waterblast the house after my cuppa and weather permitting - big black clouds are coming over.
Expecting my dad to visit some time this afternoon so I don't think I'll get much stitching done. Am still beavering away on this 10 stitch circular blanket - still thinking about my idea, will let my idea burn away in the back ground and eventually it will make some sort of sense to me.
Happy knitting :)

Ohhhh Now I understand Carole.. Our Millie that died in January was the indoors huggy baby. Bobcat is the Id rather not be cuddled, he does seem to enjoy being inside more now.

Lol Kiwimade, having ideas going around in the head can be distracting eh. I have things I want to make just have to sort out how lol..

Ill have Santa finished this afternoon. then start on Mrs Claus.

All the bacon is sliced and in the freezer so that's all sorted now. Untill we get the hogget lol.
I love having my freezers full. Its when Im most content.

Morning all.

Yep Carole sadly that's natural isn't it. They think they have more right to it than you do., after all your only the person that did the work to earn it.
My twin used to be like that all the time. Even from when we were little. Mum would give us a bag of lollies, he would scoff his fast, then cry cos he didn't have any and I did. so to shut him up mum would make me give him some of mine.
You hold onto your money and spoil yourself.
Lovely here this morning.. Lawn boys are due so I wont hang any washing out. Going to be fine again tomorrow.
I rolled my wrist over this morning so the silly thing is a bit tender. Was clicking but that has stopped. But it is rather sore.
Santa is finished. And Ive done a lot of the sewing on Mrs Claus. Just stuffing and putting the bits together now.
Have a good day everyone.

morning ladies :) Got up early and mowed the lawns and just as well too as mannnn it's getting hot out there now. Never got the water blasting done as that cold westerly was about and it was just too cold to have water pouring onto me! Crazy spring weather! Have one fenceline to weed along and that's under trees so should be able to manage that soon - am sneezing like crazy as my antihistimes aren't kicking in. Might just be the 'excuse' I need to stitch lol.
Beds are stripped and washing out, dishes done, house tidy(ish), MrK happily pottering about, must be time for a cuppa :)
Happy knitting :)

morning all,
Just waiting for 4th lot of washing to finish - not sure where I'll put it but it is so hot and breezy here at the moment that I'm sure there will be space very soon.
Busy weekend with Niece's wedding and houseful of guests, It was a lovely relaxed family wedding and all went very well.
Looks like you all have been busy too with your various activities. I agree Kiwimade you need a very warm day for waterblasting and no wind if possible also to try and not get too enthusiastic with it - last time I did some I water blasted the letter boxes and managed to blast off all the paint so ended up with an extra job repainting both mine and the neighbors as they are attached to each other.
Very limited amounts of knitting over past week but now onto it again and hope to finish the little cardy today. I then need to go and get more wool as despite an increasing stash I don't seem to have anything suitable for the next project I have in mind - well that's the excuse anyway lol
Happy knitting all

I buy pillows Carole, new or very good condition secondhand ones.. I don't have room for a woolsack.
Lots of work being done now its fine eh...

I asked the lawnboys if they new any gardeners ... lol they do gardens too, so they will come and clear the big stuff out of the vege garden then spray it. And will keep it sprayed for us. We wont be growing anything now.. Im not into playing in dirt it gives me rashes on my hands.

Don't have a lot left to do on Mrs Claus, she will be finished by the end of the day and then I can get back to my blankie lol
