Enjoy Nelson Calista. I had a few days up there after February 22 when I was quite rattled and it worked wonders. It's always been a summer holiday place for us and I always sleep really well there.

Elliehen - I'll go there too (weather permitting) but I think this one may be "the brook', You travel through a new subdivision and it's at the end of a long valley.
They are trying to raise money for a predator proof fence so it will become a sanctuary. I went there last time and talked to some keen volunteers.

I'm getting excited about my holiday.

I took Georgie-Porgy fat'n'fluffy to be microchipped free (courtesy of the SPCA) at the vets' this morning. I think she's finally forgiven me for being caged for the taxi ride. She won't like having the same thing happen to go to the cattery on Thursday,

Winnie I received the following in an email this morning from a lawyer who is the building where my office is and is in red zone Victoria St. Thought it may well be helpful for you and maybe anyone else in the same situation. Sending everyone hugs. Suzanna
Those of you who were living in the building are eligible for some financial assistance – as is anyone who has taken you in. It’s not well publicized and was set up after the Sept quake through HCNZ and WINZ – it is not income-tested.

Yes I worked very long hours when single up to 120/130 a fortnight in split shifts and including my night job which is twelve hours shift which the first four are Personal care then sleepover rate from midnight to 8am.Some nights I sleep better there than at home with a partner and two Pussie Brothers on the Bed....lol. Nice to be home during the day always but do miss out on the odd social event like plays that only visit here for one night etc. Also alot of Art classes seem to be run only on the nights I work.We have a fixed roster and a team of 8 or so run the house .

Ah wondeful, will I didn,t get a call back, but had decided over the weekend, that I am going to stay where I am,as I am not a morning person, and I do enjoy my hours,as soon as I had decided I felt at peace, and more relaxed.
I hav been checked out health wise, and doctor said I just needed more time to heal,so its all good.

I had a beautiful Character home, mature trees including a beautiful Weeping Elm over the curved driveway, all original even the kitchen, wood panelling, inbuilt safe,Big Ben chimming built in clock in Hallway, Diamond/mulit paned leadlights.Italian tiles on the verandra,Sunporch and back porch. My son and I lived there for all his Childhood and he still does now as was sold to another family member....I'm so much healthier and happier now that I'm in a totally new modern house...double glazed and no maintenance...with the neutral tones all my lovely old furniture (mainly Oak) and treasures collected for years looks great ...I couldn't afford to renovate my old place keeping sympathetic to the incredible Character..did get Plans drawn up once....mind you my first week here we planted Cherry Trees and Big ones and have various hedging in and Potted topairies so already the Character is here..I was always getting colds and sinus infections as large the house wasn't facing the sun nor light flooding in...was gorgeous though till middle age settled in.I now get my fix from the many English magazines I get monthly and don't find I miss the high ceilings, draughts, but do the open fireplace for its ambience.Still Heatpump so much cleaner.

... sadly can't have Pekin Bantams on this townhouse sized section...The neighbours trees close to the fences add to the newly developing section and with my overplanting tendency the Garden this time next year will be chocka fill with the cottage style I always grow....not for me the black mondo grass and pebble look.

Winnie, I'll be in Nelson hoping it lives up to it's reputation as the Sunshine capital of NZ.

I bought some fancy soap last time I was there and I want to get some more as it has been one of those small luxuries that helps in times of crisis - and it's not bad for my health, like some of the other things I have tried.

take care 510 - you certainly are having a run of not being very well. where did you work in mairangi bay Pam,? - my old home lol. lived in Velma road back in the early 80's as well!! I think we all need different houses for different times, I really like the 1930's style home with the beautiful leadlight curvy windows in the front, I would like to live in one of those one day - we now have the very large rambling one level family home and as we seam to have 3 university aged kids living its space for everyone to have their own spot. our next home I would like an aparment style home lock and leave so we can take off in the campervan which we have yet to purchase in the future :) - hubby was saying the other day that there is a website for campervan country swaps, like house swaps but you swap your campervan someone gets yours you go and get one in europe - great sounding Idea I thought!! hopefully you can get some assisance winnie. pleased to hear you had a clear health check earthangel.

Im fairly sure he brought the post office building and built the apartments which he and wife lived one, the shop downstairs then became leJose and he had a little wing on the side that was his jewellers which now sells handbags and accesories, terribly expensive of course, I once went and tried a skirt on memorized it went to spotlight and made a "copy" went to an awards night and the lady on the door had the proper one - she said we have the same skirt - I admited to making mine - as $650.00 for a skirt was not what I would spend - and thats probably 8 years ago now gosh still think of the things in that shop and wonder exactly who has that sort of money?? Hilcrest is going nuts at the moment had a friend looking and houses were getting snapped straight away, its a real handy location with not being too far from the bridge etc. I felt the crisp last night for the first time got something on my arms winter will be just around the corner.

quite a few places are getting snapped up in Birkdale as well. We got our place two years ago and we are close to three schools so I am happy. It is nice and quiet and have a nice 4 bedroom place and an office and small garage for the beast ah I mean the project car. the falafel went down a treat and so did the relish. I had all the hummus yum yum! now just to wait for my online shopping and I can do some more study etc.

not to be knocked either jcprotea, when you put a pin in auckland central and do the rings around birkenhed/birkdale isnt that far away from cbd - and when you look at history its inner city suburbs that get the most money and when cities grow the next ring goes poof etc. our very first home was in roseberry ave we really enjoyed living there and since the kaikapoi road has gone through it makes it a zip to get to glenfield and wairau valley.

I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I had my 4th visit from EQC this morning (it sounds greedy). I was biking down the street to go to my home away from home - the library - when I saw two men in high vis gear, so I stopped and sure enough I was on their list. They were checking for damage to the land and as I had reported some liquefaction they had a look. It was a bit depressing to be honest because there is more damage than I thought there was (although nowhere near demo level).

All of the 8 men and one woman I have had visit have been lovely people, but I find having strangers visit my home really stressful and the thought of even more strangers to put it right is almost too much. Running away is a very attractive option.

I saw the video of the CBD (shown on Canpbell Live at at the Memorial Service) today for the first time. It's all a bit beyond words.

Thwe good news is that the Paradise ducks that perch on the roof at Church are back - but I still haven't seen any scaups in the river, (the wee black diving ducks).

Hi Calista..
I'm hearing you about having strangers around and doing work - glad when they've finished and our home is back to being our home again.. Having said that, different tradesmen will be here doing different work over the next two weeks - will be nice to have the work done though.

I hope the work is able to be done quickly for you.. keep strong.. and use your trusty cycle-stead to whisk you away for a break when needed.. take care..

wasnt the house going to auction yesterday Pam? - did you go to see what it went for? I can understand the horrible feeling of strangers in your home calista and especially if you are on your own, my sister whom lives alone gets quite upset about strangers entering her home as its her haven. Your boys have done marvelously Charlie they certainly are the age were they will remember this for all their lives, good luck with rental - to be honest I wouldnt want to own a rental in chch what a headache not only to have your own house to sort but a rental as well, and I am sure there are a few people in that boat!! hope you are feeling better 510? good luck with 21s Juliewn dont forget the camera its such a milestone for them as well as us having kids not kids anymore!! had a lovely time last friday with 2 girlfriends, heard last night that one of them rushed to the laundry fri night rolled her ankle and the bone pierced the skin she looked down and there was blood everywhere, she has 4 kids and her mother has just come to live with her, so wondering what to cook for a family of 7 !! - thinking a mince pasta dish myself any other ideas? its a bugger when you do a meal for a large fam, you really have to think about it cause you have to throw a fair bit of food at them!! so any suggestions, I thought I could do some home baking for the boys for their lunchboxes ?
