Had a restless night too carole, the dog was out barking at 2.00am (thank god we are in the country) and chased something up a tree. Suspect it was a possum - oh great lol. MrK will have a look today while I'm at school.
Your crafts look great all set out popeye, you won't know yourself now!

Morning ladies....
It is great I keep popping my head in the door cos it just looks so neat and tidy.
Trust me Carole that's only part of my wool stash. Those drawers are full as. I like that if someone asks for something I generally can make it without having to go buy any diff colours.
My back is niggly this morning grrr... so I think Ill do a very quick vaccum and then shorten these sleeves. Then knit.
Had to take car to garage yesterday I noticed that the spare tyre looked like it had been spiked or something. MrP thought it might be perishing and falling apart, but garage seems to think its been that way for a while and a result of bad driving.
I wasn't impressed since it is something they should have discovered when it was in for the warrant a few weeks ago. And we have never had to use it.
Havent a clue what the new tyre will cost. but have also ordered a new cover cos the one we had for previous car wont fit.
I am going to ask them how come they didn't notice it.

Overcast here . We had impressive rain thunder and lightening late yesterday. Caused a power surge at my friends on the other side of town. her surge protector box blew apart. no fire thank goodness.

Have a good day everyone

Oh it was bliss this morning to go into the craft room and shorten the sleeves on a couple of shirts and shorten some jeans.

He sat or layed there the whole time I sewed. Went to put the shirts away etc and found another, so it was not hard to do that one too. If Id had to do it on the dining room table it wouldn't have got done lol.

Had to buy a clock to put in there, time whizzed by lol

He was ever so "helpful" Carole.. Especially when I was hemming the jeans, cos he thought it might be a good idea to try and get into the top of them.
Since his sister went in January hes really coming around. Hes never been a cuddly cat. but will give mooches and let you scratch his head for hours,
before, you could barely touch him.
This morning while I was sitting on the side of the bed he came up to me and I picked him up for a cuddle. He actually sat there quite happy purring, instead of whining and getting all stiff and prickly .
He Luffs his Mummy lol

Lovely job popeye. I'm thinking of putting my dog on an allowance, so I can take it off her when she chews up my interchangeable needles. I don't mind the cables so much but she chews on the ends of the needles as well.

I am lucky Lucy don't do knitting or sewing. the other pets use too. chocho did knitting one night when we were out , she tipped over a BIG box of wool and ran around the whole house with it, took Tony and I till 2am to clean up the mess. well going well on uncles slippers, and the shrug , got my machine back yesterday so finished 3 orders. worked out I have had it 3 years and this was it's first service

morning :) hehehe popeye, Bobcat just wanted to be close and help - as they do!
Vet visit for the Furry One today me thinks as he has done something to his eye and can hardly open it. Hopefully it is dust or something in there but it needs to be checked out. I have also chased the Furry One around the house and unwound wool from coffee table legs, beds and other furniture lol. I have learned my lesson and now keep everything up high.
We have a Christmas luncheon to go to today, the first of the 'season' so I should be able to get some more knitting done this afternoon (as long as I don't fall asleep lol).
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone...
Ohh norty furry ones... Im a tough mummy and have always taught ours not to touch. With Millie I could knit with her on my knee.
My SIL learnt very quickly tho that Bob is a bag cat and she had a zip on her knitting bag she should use it. Not that he had a chance to get the wool out, but he would have if I hadn't warned her.

Ive never had my machine serviced Carole,,, oops...Not that it works as much as yours.
Kiwimade might be a grass seed in your boys eye, they can be nasty.
Off to town today, once we pick up the spare wheel again.

Have a good day all

could be too popeye, vet vist this afternoon. The vet is going to need all the luck and good management he can get with this one.
Getting my hair cut this morning, then luncheon, then vet... going to be a tight squeeze time wise!
having a giggle at Samie sitting on your knitting raej, don't they love it! Is that your 10 stitch blanket being knitted?

kiwimade64 - 2013-11-21 09:15:00
2816

Yes it is. I had a small amount of wool left over from my top so thought I would make it for her. Seems like she can't wait.
It was yesterday when she attacked the needles so had to trim the cables and work with one needle all chewed at the end. Today she is sitting like a perfect angel.
Hope the trip to the vet goes well. Everyone enjoy your day in town, I have to wait till Saturday, although hoping for tomorrow off if this cycle docking gets finished

raej2 - 2013-11-21 09:44:00
2817

Morning all,
Oh Raej2 that is so cute but your poor interchangeables - I am so protective of mine as managed to break 2 pairs within the first week of getting them, so used to being rather rough with my old plastic coated steel ones. i see that you have the acrylic ones are they good to knit with and stronger than the wooden ones?
Don't have any furry helpers with the knitting but 3 year old great niece loves "helping" when I knit but ends up holding the wool really taut or winding it around her arms so that I can't get any onto the needles. Give her a little longer and she will get her own needles and wool so far she just sticks needles into a ball of wool and winds it into a birds nest but refuses help as "I can do it" lol. Have taught other children to knit but seems that they need to be about 5 to get the idea.

Having a clean up day as electrician in tomorrow to put in more power points - house was built in 1970s and a single power point per room isn't nearly enough these days.

Will get some knitting done later
Have a happy day all

jayemtoo - 2013-11-21 09:48:00
2818

no the power point feeling , when ever we move into a new house Mr T goes around and put heaps of power points in and phone jacks , well finished my orders now off shopping

carolev - 2013-11-21 09:58:00
2819

jayemtoo I'm slowly replacing my acrylic with the wooden. Find the wooden smoother. Our house comes with the job, plently of power points in the shed, dining room and kitchen but only one in each of the bedrooms, my craft room is covered in cords and multi plugs

raej2 - 2013-11-21 10:12:00
2820

Well our house isn't that old really, less than 20 years, but we could do with more power points, and more cupboards, the house is quite big but there's very little built-in storage. The first thing hubby did when we bought it, was build in under the stairs, to give me some "out of sight" storage. Didn't take me long to fill it. His mum had only one power point in the whole house. It was in the kitchen and she had a multi-thing which was enough for the kettle, fridge, her little oven and a heater. She thought it was marvellous!

kuaka - 2013-11-21 11:07:00
2821

Our house is only 11 years old.. The landlord built the block of two units and I reckon he tried to save money by not putting many plugs in.. Only one in each bedroom and two in the lounge.
I want one more in the lounge and one more at the end of the breakfast bar.
But at over $100 a pop Im not volunteering to pay for them. So we have lots of leads too, only one room with it in a walk way tho. Im very strict about leads and mats.. MrP can trip easy enough without them around too.

Have had a big morning out.

So time to put my feet up

popeye333 - 2013-11-21 13:58:00

morning :) mowing lawns (again... sigh...) today as the weather is supposedly going to change over the weekend and begining of next week.
Well the Furry One had to be muzzled at the vets for the very first time. He has scratched his eye and needed a dye to see where it was and ommgg he was not happy. Drops four times a day is a real challenge so am phoning the vet this morning to see if we can have the cream instead (just knew we should have taken that option but MrK insisted drops would be OK).
Am pleased with my haircut and am booked in for a colour next week too - can't wait!
I'm determined to finish this throw this weekend - but we will see lol.
happy knitting :)

Morning everyone... such a lovely day out there.

Nice when you get big orders carole, keeps ya out of trouble eh lol

Ohh Kiwimade, not good re furry one... At least theres no surgery but I don't imagine doing anything with eyes is easy.
Did you have a new style Kiwimade?
Ive had my hair cut once since mum died and that was before her service. So its 2.5 years. Its getting nice and long now. Im lucky in that I suit both long and short hair. but I love having long hair up so its off the back of my neck. Much cooler.
I finished the main body piece of santa last night and have nearly done half of the second to last strip of blanket.
Just talking to sister in law. they are coming our way for Christmas. yay Ill be able to set the table properly for us.. Ohh cant wait.

Have a good day everyone

Absolutely blowing a gale here, a very weak sun trying to shine but quite cloudy. The last few days I've been waterblasting the decks ready to apply a fresh coat of stain, hope to get a bit more done today and that will finish the section I've been working on. There's still heaps more to do though. I didn't go to stitch & bitch on Wednesday as I was late getting up and didn't have any "no think" knitting to do, so might start another 10 stitch blanket for beanies for babies so that I can take that next week. We have no plans for Christmas, I'm the least Christmassy person I know, just can't get enthusiastic about it, just another day as far as we are concerned. When I think of what my sister in the UK does, she buys presents for just about everyone she knows, and gives tips to the postie, dustmen, windowcleaner etc and then the amount of cooking she does is unbelievable. I just relax and the one thing I don't do is washing or put washing out on the line. Don't do that on New Years Day or Good Friday either. (that was my Grans rules and it seems like a good enough reason to carry on the family tradition).

Well happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2013-11-22 09:16:00

I've come in for a cuppa and some good old sneezing lol. A third of the lawns done though.
I'm the same kuaka, I refuse to do laundry on those days too. If you want any clothing etc washed either get yourself organised beforehand or do it yourself.
It is getting soooo hot out there, might have to leave the rest of the lawn until this evening.
Popeye, just had my long hair cut off to a short(ish) bob. I had the style where it was long in the front and short at the back and it drove me bonkers having hair different lengths. Much cooler with a shorter style and can't wait for my colour(s) next week. I'll be a 'new woman' lol.

kiwimade64 - 2013-11-22 10:43:00
2828

I think I get into Christmas soo much cos Mum never did. we both love our decorations etc.
Been quite a while since I laid the table properly, so Im looking forward to that.
I used to buy all in sundry present but now its a couple of friends and us. Plus I will get the BIL and SIL something. I have hers already cos she loves avon, so I can give her some of my stash lol I always stock up when its cheap.
The BIL is different he will be harder to buy for. but we are just doing little pressies anyway.
Definatly no washing on Christmas or my birthday... lol

Have shortened the net curtain for the front door. Had my helper (bobcat) with me as soon as I sat down on the chair lol
Makes the room a lot lighter as we have glass doors and I had a thermal drape curtain there before.
Yeah Im not a fan of different length hair either Kiwimade. I used to have really long hair, but kept it at the bottom of my shoulder blades while I was mowing lawns for a job. Now Im going to grow it really long again.
No colours, Im hoping I go snow white like both my grandmothers lol
Knitting this afternoon I think

popeye333 - 2013-11-22 12:34:00
2829

my nana went snow white too and I loved it! But my birth mother is 'salt and pepper' so I guess i will be too.
Well some scum has stolen our son's motorcycle and he missed his uni exam as a result. Luckily Vic. Uni have said he can sit the exam another day but omggg I am soooo friggin mad and disapointed for him. He worked so hard for that bike and just loved it. Absolute scum!
Oh well, that's my rant lol. I did get some knitting done as it was waayy too hot to be outside.
Happy knitting :)

Electrician has come and gone and the new power points are great. I'm now doing a good clean up as left housework this week as I knew he would make a mess in every room.

Not really keen on Christmas but have quite a lot of close family to get things for so have started a tradition of giving Christmas cakes as family presents to those who like them - I really like making fruit cakes and these are looked forward to now I try and think of something else to make for those who don't like fruit cake. I tend to do family presents now and then give the little ones something for their birthdays.

I agree that public holidays should be no washing (or housework if I can get away with it) days.

jayemtoo - 2013-11-22 15:03:00
2831

Oh Kiwimade, Id be hopping mad too. Was he insured? Not that it ever gets back the same bike with the emotional attachment .
Hopefully it will be found. And Im pleased the Uni will let him do his exam at another time. They are usually pretty liberal on that eh.

I love making fruit cakes, and fruit mince pies too Jayemtoo.
I have told my SIL that I have made a cake and will be making fruit mince pies, so no need for her to bring any.
The funny thing is we use the same cake recipe but hers is always dry compaired to mine.
And sadly her fruit mince pies are more pastry than fruit, mine have the barest amount of pastry , just enough to hold it together. And are really moist and yummy.
I will make my friend a banana cake to add to her gift. As she doesn't like fruit cake and works so doesn't get much time to bake.
Havent done a lot of knitting today.
I gave MrP the day off from dishes, (two days worth grr). So I crumbed the schnitzel for tea, did all the dishes and then got everything ready for a salad for tea.

yep, he has insurance popeye. I used to work for the insurance industry mannnyyyy moons ago so make sure my kids have it. We pay his premium as it was soo expensive - he's a male under 25 riding a motorcycle.
Lawns are mowed and the temperature has dropped thank goodness. Will get some knitting done this evening :)

Well I didn't get waterblasting done, we ended up going to town as we had a few errands to attend to, then I went to Countdown and "wasted" some money on groceries (all the yarn I could have bought instead - just think!) then went for a short walk along the beach. Sat outside on the deck after a very late lunch but it was too hot, I could feel my skin crisping up, so came indoors. I'm going very grey (covering it up with colour at the moment) but I'm hoping I won't go bald like my gran.

morning girls. I went grey at 27 coloured my hair till 50 been snow white ever since, well sat up in bed and have finished shrug and started another one, then bed socks , got sewing today

Not a good night for me, woke just after 4am and couldn't get back to sleep so I've been up since 6. Can't say I've done anything very useful yet except some washing and hang it out and fold up yesterday's washing. The rain which was forecast yesterday didn't happen unless you count the few spits we had last night, not enough to do the gardens any good and I feel sorry for people on water tanks (we were for years until we bought this property).

popeye, I noticed the other day that my Avon hand cream and foot cream is "made in China". I know they make most things, but that was a bit of a surprise, mind you I have no idea where it was made previously, but I'm sure it didn't used to be China.

Hopefully finish a section of the deck with the waterblaster today (that's if we don't get any rain) and have a tidy up as I think it's my turn to host our weekly ladies session on Tuesday and I wouldn't like them to see it in it's present state. Mind you, most of them wouldn't do half the things I do, like weilding a waterblasting round the place, and you can't do everything - can you? And I have to make time for my knitting.

Whatever you're up to today, enjoy it.

kuaka - 2013-11-23 07:32:00
2836

morning :) Of course we can kuaka - girl power! lol. I water blast and use power tools too. The main men in my life (Dad and MrK) have insisted I learn how to use them as well as change car tyres etc. Useful stuff to know. I have even used the chainsaw and the skill saw :P.
I finished the knitting part of my throw! Took me until midnight with all the lounge windows open as it was sooo hot lol but I did it. Am a bit bleary eyed this morning but will sew it together and do the edging and fringe today with some luck.
Happy knitting :)

lol kiwimade, I wasn't meaning I couldn't tackle anything and everything, I was meaning if I spend hours outside waterblasting (which a lot of the ladies I know wouldn't do, wouldn't even dream of doing) then it's not surprising that the dusting doesn't get done inside. There's only so much I can fit in in one day, and if I'm outside then the inside gets neglected. Anything rather than housework for me I'm afraid.

Well done on the throw kiwimade.

Morning everyone...
I love white hair. Mum and her sister were only salt and pepper, so im hoping Ill be the white one. My fathers mum had very very fine hair and mine is the same. Warfarin doesn't help much either, I lose a handful everyday when I comb it.
I love doing "bloke" stuff. Love the water blaster. Never got a chance to learn the chainsaw tho. I love pulling things to bits, (like my father apparently). I just cant pain to save myself, hence marrying a painter lol.

I have a busy day.. Not.. Im going to knit all day. The house is tidy. I have a list of things I want to do before family arrives. But I want to get the santas done first. Have sorted a date for my school friend to come for xmas lunch.. Dec 15th lol... might as well have done it in the middle of the year lol

Your right Kuaka if we didn't have to buy food or pay for phone and power, we would have plenty of money for wool, fabric etc lol
Have a wonderfull day, the weather is meant to be hot and windless.

Just catching up and lots of reading to do.
I had cataract surgery Thursday and am unbelievably tired. I picked up some sewing from *CaroleV* on Friday so 12 of my Christmas presents are covered. I am not really Christmassy these days....my husband is not well enough to travel and all of our kids have kids and even Grandchildren.

I will give mostly vouchers and maybe shortbread.

*kuaka* A lot of the stuff we get in from China is only canned or assembled there...often the produce or products needed to do this actually come from NZ. Or so my marketing granddaughter tells me.

*popeye* I do most of my toy knitting in DK but on 2.5 mm needles. This seems to stop the stuffing from showing......mind you I think that you do more than me.

Anyway I am going to have a snooze....I am thinking that my B12 levels are low, I am overdue for my monthly injection.

grandmasue1 - 2013-11-23 13:33:00
2840

GMS I use 3mm needles, as that's what most of Jean Greenhowes patterns are in.
This red and the white I got from the warehouse were just too thing. Probably closer to 6ply than 8.
Ive used a very firm red from spotlight which will make Santa stand well. And a nice soft white for the beard from Deramores.
You could be overworking the good eye too at the mo, so be carefull and take care.
Ive done the 4 bits of the beard today and a fair way into the hat.
Poor blanket is sadly not getting much attention. well not since Thursday night anyway. But I want the Santa and Mrs S done by the time I put my decorations up.
25.2 in our lounge. but we do have a wee bit of a breeze so its not unbearable to me yet.

Almost finished my throw, just have the fringe to latch on and it's done! It was sooo hot doing the edging yesterday but I was determined to get it done.

2844

Morning everyone... Tis a warm one here already 21.4 in the lounge and it doesn't get the sun till after lunch. So going to be another hot one. Worse than yesterday I think.
Ohh Kiwimade I soo understand what today will be like. We used to have pumped water in a couple of places we lived at. A day for knitting lol
Carole its most annoying when that happens eh...Good you can remember and put it on paper.
Mt brain very seldom doesn't work the easiest way how to do things, but for some reason the easy answer usually comes to me through the night.
Have got washing on and want to do the curtains in the lounge. I don't like the net curtain on the front door, it lets in too much light and the sun streams in, so Ill get the curtains washed and rehang tonight
Have the tail end of the santas hat to do then the jacket skirt and little bits so Hopefully will get most of that done today. Ill knit Mrs Claus next and then make them up together.
Have a good day all. Kiwimade I hope you had time to fill the thermos or have a bbq at least

That's gorgeous kiwimade, well done. I love the way the yarns change colour in the cable. Very clever.

Not sure what we will do today, but it's going to be hot again - not that I'm complaining, it's better than being cold in the winter.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2013-11-25 08:49:00

Morning everyone...
We are at 20.3 already... All the windows and doors open. Which is a hard one for me. the front door opens to the world. its like 5 meters max from the footpath.
But MrP made me a screen ages ago and Ive got that in the door and Ive pinned a net curtain to it so people don't have a free view in. It makes me feel like we live in a fish bowl.
The Throw is lovely Kiwimade. Your daughter will love it.. The big question is,,, What are you going to do next lol???

Ive all but knitted Santa. I leave the wrist and boot tops till hes stuffed incase I need to adjust the length. And have his buckle to do. So that's a week this afternoon since I started him.
Will do the buckle then start Mrs Claus this morning too.
But first I need to sew the straps onto one of my summer dresses. They are made so they can come off, which they do when Im wearing it. So Ill sew the dam things to the dress. It put me off wearing it last year.

Try and stay cool. I hate summer... I much prefer winter.

Have a good day everyone

thanks kuaka and popeye :) and yep, that is the big question lol. I've decided to finish anything I have 'on the go'. Was going to be my owl blanket I started in Whanganui BUT not only did I leave my hooks behind, I left the pattern too lol. I don't want to print off another one and I hate following patterns on the screen so will put that one aside until after Christmas when daughter and her wee family come home.
So the next UFO is a cross stitch I started when I began uni in 2007. Was ambitious of me to think I could study and do it lol and then time just flew by with family, work and study. Now I have time so I'll tackle it again.
It's a Tereza Wenstler (sp) one called The Story Teller. When it's done, I'll frame it for Maddy's bedroom.
Might just begin something with the knitting needles though just for something to do in the evening when I can't see well enough to stitch.
happy knitting :)

Ohh Kiwimade sounds like your mind was definatly on Maddy and not picking everything up before you came home. lol.. Could always get your daughter to post it up to you.
Good idea having something to do at night time.
Ive decided after Ive finished the Santas and my blanket that I will knit myself the jacket that you sent the pattern to me for Kiwimade. Thinking about using the variegated wool, but I think that may detract from the frill and I like that frill. So Ill see what colour I have the most of... or perhaps get something really nice on new Years day when Im sure spotlight will have a sale.
Have done the straps on my dress. done the buckle for Santa and knitting one boot for Mrs Claus.
Texting with my brother inbetween. The only one left in NZ and cos Mum used to play us off against each other its really nice to finally have "found" each other again. Whats weird is I am generally thinking about him for about 24 hours and then he beats me to ringing or texting him lol.
Would be my sisters youngest sons birthday today. He would be 36 if he was still with us. But he has just as many with him to have a good time.
Still lovely here and not over hot yet.

Must be Christmas lol the Scorched Almond add was just on lol
