hi cindydog, that is a small piece of fabric that i cut out, then put a border around it, then batting and binding, i quilted the lines that were already on it, then if just tried to do that free motion quilting boy it not easy and very time consuming, oh this is just a small wall quilt, not blankie

it is very time consuming but then again quilts take a lot of time, i love the look of the quilting - they look finished, well the pics i have seen do anyway. As for the one im doing well we will see. I dont think a pic will show the quilting at all cause the thread is exactly the same colour. But will see when ive done some more.
Hmmm hope that makes sense if not just ignore ;)

Hi Coalrange, didn't know if you would look at the other quilting thread about thread (no pun intended) and realised no one had mentioned a walking foot. I guess you are using one for your quilting but if not you might be experience a problem with the quilt bunching. Let's know!

Hi Franny, i like the pun even if it wasnt intended :)
Im using a darning foot, its working ok, i just need more practice. i can see differences from hour to hour - it is looking more ummm flowing i guess you could call it rather than my first attempts which you can see jumpy bits ( lost control bits )
Twilight has a walking foot too, she is using a hoop. I havent tried that. Do you use a hoop at all ?

Have a great day Franny and its lovely to have you here :)
are you making anything at the mo ?

Hi Coalrange, I have used a darning foot but find the walking foot better. I don't use a hoop on my machine, it's an older Bernina which doesn't have a hoop. I do use a hoop when hand quilting but not very good at that and takes too long. A darning foot is really good for stipple quilting but I am hopeless at that and not enough patience to get better at it. I have one quilt top all sandwiched at ready to go and two tops yet to be sandwiched. Got quite a bit of bamboo batting at Spotlight when they had their 40% off thing a little while ago. Have you folks used bamboo batting it is really lovely for both machine and hand quilting and the big plus is that it is machine washable - can't put it in the dryer though. I really need to stay off this message board and get some done. Its all you lot who are a bad influence as I keep wanting to see what you are all up to!

Franny, the sewing machine is an elna 2003,we bought it for #2 daughter.......i have singer featherweight (tiny little thing) had 2 of them for about 30 years, one of them i took all the good parts off recently and made one better......i realised i had never in all those years oiled the poor thing !!!!!! it went fine and i just never thought of it sooooooo i oiled it and now it wont go !!!!!! oooops. So am using daughters machine ;)
When T&A were moving their excess baggage into the spare rooms here, "A" had an old sewing machine in a box, she said oh its just an old thing, i said oooooh they are the best - son comes out with ' yup untill mum oils them' hehe lol

Thanks very much for offer of foot Franny thats so lovely of you, i will just use this one, have finished the little sampler i will put pic up soon - just got to finish Twilights scone :)

Thanks for scones Twilight yummy :) just what i needed as always lol

Awww poor Liz hmmm you better hurry Twilight, maybe just bring her back here :)

I have just made those lemonade scones for lunch, they turned out well but the mixture was really gluey, added a bit more flour OK but thought I had a disaster on my hands but when cooked husband said they were really nice and they were. He is the expert cook in the house so if he says there are good, they are good. I could put some on the bus if you would like some.
No walking foot won't fit Elna as a lady in my craft group wanted one but it wouldn't fit. Am surprised Elna don't make one to fit. Those old Singer lightweight are worth a fortune, did you know?
No! no! no! Twilight daren't indulge in more fabric, have enough to make possibly a dozen - or 20 quilts. Husband just raises when eyes when I come home with "just a little bit" because it will go with what I already have.
