I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

woop woop lol the power bill was emailed to me this morning and there is a hugeee credit as we were overcharged in September. Enough to pay this months bill and still keep us in credit! Makes me so cross as this was when Novapay was mucking me around and we could have used the money then. Oh well, all comes out in the wash I suppose.
Housework done, just waiting for the washing machine to finish so I can hang out another load. The Furry One is pleased I am home and is my shadow today.
It's always good to be home isn't it jayemtoo :) Great news baby's op went well.
happy knitting :)

kiwimade - we got a $200 credit on our power bill this month from the lines company, maybe that's what you got, they used to send out a cheque for $200 but last year and again this year it's a credit on your power bill. I suppose it's just another way of making sure you use their money (which you have actually given them) to buy more power and pay them again, rather than spending it on groceries!

Lovely day here, we were very late up, I haven't done a thing this morning except fluff around, have breakfast and then sit out in the sun and have a cup of tea and do some knitting, so now I'm going to strip the bed and do some washing, do the dishes and then do some gardening for a while, and then do some more knitting.

Have a super day everyone.

Lovely day but very dark in our house...

Him that thinks he knows it all is in a terribly grumpy mood. more with himself cos he tried to help with the pantries. Firstly dropping one end on the top of his foot. It weighs 40 kilos. hes walking on it so cant be too bad.
Then he tries to give me instriuctions that are back to front to the written ones and gets grumpy when I want to follow the real ones.
So in his temper he kicked the bottom this chipping one area, then dragged it cos he reckoned I wasn't help and chipped some more off one of the sides.
So it already looks like we have owned it for many years and been knocked around.
I will make the other one myself even if it kills me.

But nevertheless I am pleased I managed to sort the hinges etc out and get them done.
I wont put anything in them till I have the other one done and figure out how I will set things out in them.

Its such a lovely day, but alas Im cant be in the sun long cos of pills Im on.

Yes we should get out rebate next month from the lines company, we are already over $700 in credit. so we will get that back for Christmas.

popeye333 - 2013-11-14 14:53:00
2754

Wow popeye, how do you come to be $700 in credit, do you pay a set amount each month or something?

I manage to save a little bit each time (well nearly every time) I use my cashflow card, 'cos ASB has this system (optional) where you can select an amount and each time you use your card, the difference between the actual amount spent and the amount you've chosen goes into a separate account. So if you've chosen to round up to $2 and you spend $15.70, then 30c goes into your account, but if you've chosen to round up to $5 then $4.30 goes into your account. You can change the amount but I think the options are $1, $2 and $5. It's like having an electronic piggy bank. Works for me.

yeah I pay $45 a week, as we needed to when mum was here. Ive never dropped it since she died. The phone is in credit too.
I put the aps on hold over Christmas and leave enough to cover the first bill of the year.
The money saved from ap regos the car for a year. And we get $1000 back usually more from the combine phone and power.
Ive done it that way for ages, but its just increased since I never cut it back when mum died

2756

well I phoned the power company just to make sure and it's not a line rebate, we were definately overcharged for September. It all happened while we were away in whanganui and weren't home to read the meter so the power company did a 'guesstimate'.
Oh dear popeye, MrP would not be happy lol. Sometimes it is better they just leave us alone to get on with things!
Started knitting this afternoon and fell asleep again - omg this is getting to be a bad habit lol. Must be because I am still a bit snuffly and the meds I'm taking makes me drowsy.
Happy knitting :)

I don't do estimates, I ring in the numbers on the inbetween month. but Our bills are very good again now. Mum was terrible at wasting power and hot water.
Yes he wont be helping with the second pantry unless it is to hold or lift something.
You must need the rest so I wouldn't worry.

Oh dear Im buying wool on here again lol.. just waiting on two little auctions and there will be quite a bit coming my way.

So the denim blue nepp wool I got from Deramores and didn't like to my SIL so that's cool she will use it wisely.

Oops got 44 balls of acrylic and mix for $72.50 so without postage that's $1.64 a ball... Pleased... have deleted others off my list now lol

We phone our readings in each month (and get a small discount for doing that) but we were away for the week it was due and I never even gave it a thought to call it in early. Oh well, nothing to pay this month so all good.
That's a lot of yarn popeye! But a very good price.
Happy knitting :)

Morning = lovely day outside.
good that you are starting to improve Carole,
Popeye hope the next pantry goes well - I agree that at times it is just easier to get on and do it yourself.
Oh why do lawns keep on growing Kiwimade lol.
Have quite a bit of running around to do today with taking and collecting a kid to and from school and other errands which can't be put off any longer but hope to get a bit of knitting fitted in between times - i will just not look at my fastly growing lawns today they can wait a day or two.
Have a good day everyone

Hi everyone.. yes Im running late lol

Lovely day here too. Have washing on.. We have the lawns done for us so I love watching the daisys burst out.

Am a bit achy from doing the pantry but not bad. The blister however is very tender lol

Glad to hear your feeling a bit better Carole.

We are going to pick up the wool this afternoon. Doesn't work out any cheaper to send than what we can drive to get it. so will have lunch out as well.
I will try and get the hinges put onto the doors of the second pantry this morning before we go.
Did a little knitting last night about 4 inches I think.
Have a wonderfull day everyone

Its been a glorious day weather wise today. Love getting the washing in smelling lovely and fresh.

I put the hinges into place and moved all the parts to the office this morning.
Went and got the wool, and its all lovely.

Got home to cops and robbers lol.. We followed a helicopter into town and it was down our end, plus a dog vehicle etc. They must have been looking for someone. Way out the back we have the bottom of the manukau harbour and a lot of people run to there if trying to evade the coppers. Luckily the tide was out lol.

Off to the gala in the morning... its always a fantastic one. Just like they used to be when I was young. Lost to see and do for the kids. Plenty of stuff for the adults.

Hope everyone has had a fab day

are you going to buy any furniture popeye. getting my hair cut tomorrow after we have taken miss E shopping. nearly done my 4th shrug but this will be the last

carolev - 2013-11-15 18:45:00
2765

Had to go to Whangarei hosp today for his nibbs to see the eye specialist. The good news is his macular degeneration isn't too serious at this stage (the specialist said he'll probably outlive it meaning he'll probably croak before he goes completely blind!) then a quick trip to Spotlight where I managed to get some king sized sheets at a very reasonable price and only bought 4 balls of wool, 2 x 100gm and 2 x 150gm. I thought I was quite good even though I don't need any more wool at all, and of course I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more till I've used what I've got. Yeah right!!!!

I took my knitting and knitted on the way and whilst we were waiting, but I drove back and I haven't figured out how to knit whilst driving. Never mind. I did quite a bit today (10 stitch blanket)

morning girls. well I feel semi alive today, taking miss 6 shopping today. then getting hair cuts from Debs. got the marching team coming at 3 pm. almost done the shrug, a few rows to go, so out now to enjoy the sun shine

2767

Morning ladies..Going to be a cracker of a day. Wont be sitting out doing quick fire raffles, too much sun and we are both on meds that make you fry in the sun in a short time.

Noo Carole Im not planning on buying any furniture lol... we have more than one really needs already lol.
Good news re MrKs eyes Kuaka. A friends hubby and his son both have that.
Have done just over 50 ridges on the blanket strip. Will mark it later, I usually mark the 50s with safety pins so I don't have to keep recounting.

Good to hear your feeling better Carole. nothing like some retail therapy to make one feel better.

My hand is still aching from using the screw driver.. stupid thing. And the blister is reminding me its there especially when I wash my hands lol

Will see how I feel when we get back as to if I do any more building

Have a wonderful day all

popeye333 - 2013-11-16 07:50:00
2768

morning ladies :) finally got online, computer just would not load this morning so I've had to fluff around trying to get it to go. If the same thing happens tomorrow I'll have to take it in for a 'checkup'. It's only happened since the latest lot of updates.
Good news about MrK's eyes kuaka :), my MrK has cateracts and he's driving me nuts!
Sounds like you are all going to be busy today :) I have a friend in Blenheim involved with marching too carole.
Vacuming, laundry and knitting are on my agenda today. The Furry One likes to 'help' when I put clean sheets on the bed and we have a bit of a rough and tumble and tug of war as I make the bed... as for the vacuming... he really likes to 'help' there too and will bark and bark at the vacum until I turn it on lol. Makes a couple of simple jobs a little bit more tricky but I do get lots of laughs.
Happy knitting :)

beautiful morning here too, I woke and 6.30 and thought "10 more minutes" and next time I woke it was 9am. Oops! Must have needed it. The other thing the specialist wants to do is operate of Mr Ks lower eyelids which have drooped. He says it will stop his eyes constantly watering, and droopy eyelids expose more of the eyeball to the elements so he says he will look and feel better. Grumps isn't sure. I told him Dolly Parton pays a fortune for her face lifts and he's going to get one for free. He's still not convinced - it's done under local anaesthetic so it's a case of just trying to keep still and not think about what they're doing. Apparently they do one at a time as the patient would find it hard to keep still for long enough to do both.

Have to go to town this morning to check the mail but I think I might do some gardening of some sort later - weeding most likely!

Have a great day everyone.

Oh meant to say popeye, this 10 stitch blanket I'm doing, it's the zigzag one and I'm putting a safety pin every 10th ridge of the garter stitch 'cos you do 10 ridges and then change direction, so it saves re-counting all the time.

kuaka - 2013-11-16 09:25:00
2770

Comes in handy using pins eh Kuaka. Each of my strips is 286 ridges, so I sure as heck don't want to count those too often.
MrP if he is feeling cheeky will throw a couple of odd numbers out when Im counting, to put me off, the ratbag lol... But I prefer him doing that to be grumpy.
I spent the grand sum of $6 at the gala, cos we didn't do the quick fire raffles.
Got a breville cordless jug, nice and clean too. An aircell blanket, full length net curtain for the front door. 3 kids annuals, 3 fold up umbrellas, 3 rolls of wall paper border a battery charger and wait for it Lol... A Ball of red wool hahahaha.
Id have happily paid a lot more but it was the girls that came and got the furniture that served me.
Sitting here has been difficult cos the smell from the sausage sizzle is reaching our house lol.
Ohh went and got the trays for my pantries too. Will build the other one tomorrow to give my hand a rest lol

popeye333 - 2013-11-16 12:54:00
2771

Well I am just tooo clever lol... I put the second pantry together in half the time, no grumpies or moods, yelling etc. No chips off them. And Ive got them in place and wool trays in them.
My only blonde moment was I got trays for 4 shelves instead of 6. But I may not need any more anyway. Will see when I sort the rest of the room out.
Have to repair the leg on the bedside table next Put that in place, then move all the junk to move the bookcase and scotch chest into place. Then Make up the desk, put the machines on it and sort out any remaining junk.
Its going to look heaps better.

Now if one have you have finished with the maid for the day can she please come and cook our tea lol

*kuaka* My late m-I-l had had her lower eyelids lifted when she was around 92 and it was very successful. She said it was very much like having her cataract done, similar amount of time as well. I have had a cataract done and am having my 2nd one done next Thursday.
I seem to have about 4 wool projects on the go. I am hooking a rug .knitting a golliwog, knitting a Cradle Bag, have a 2year old's cardy needing bands and my 10 st. blanket . Daughter also wants nice hat and mittens for next winter. So that is 5 on the go and one waiting. At the moment it depends on the lighting and what colour I am using that decides what I knit.

Where is the best place to learn the art of picking up stitches. I taught myself to knit years ago when my neice was born (now 36 and children of her own). I have never been a neat sewer up and seem to leave 'holes' when I pick up stitches. Or sew around necks etc. Any tips.

Google is your friend, otherwise do you know anyone who is a pretty good knitter. It's not difficult but it does take practice and patience to get it neat. Good luck.

morning all. well I had a rotten day yesterday, got confused with the marching team, and a child's ears where turned off and did not listen to us. I hope today will be better, you all have been so busy , I finished my shrug looks ok. and did more on my 10 stitch blanket,

morning ladies :) 4teeandkay, I use the mattress stitch when sewing garments or knitting. Pretty sure you should be able to find it on You Tube - might even be a tutorial there. Makes a lovely flat finish and you can hardly see the seam.
Am having a giggle carole, sorry, but I get it all the time in the classroom. Only takes one lol.
Got a fair bit of knitting done late yesterday/early evening so almost finished this second strip. A couple more days I think and I should be able to finish it.
But there will be no knitting today as we are off on a garden ramble. Foggy as heck here so I hope the sun comes out soon for it.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone... Nice here but big grey clouds threatening... They best hold off till the washing is dry.
4teeandkay. Im not the best at picking up stitches, but I have found since mum died and I have to do it myself Im getting better at it. Practise helps even out the gaps. And nothing wrong with a little creative stitching on the back to fill in the gaps lol.
Have got two stripped beds, so the machine is on. I need to pop up to the shop. Then home to do some more sorting out in the sewing room. Its a small room which means things have to be moved around to be able to move the furniture.
Body is a little tired from my busy day yesterday.

MrP often thinks he can leave his ears turned off.. Doesn't work here. Im the one with the useless hearing. he can hear a pin drop, so if he doesn't answer me I know he is ignoring me , and that's not an option lol

Going to get going and then Ill be able to knit a bit later.

Have a wonderful day

Hi, this is what i do...
if you have.. say 60 stitches to pick up along the front for the left or right band, then i fold the garment in half and put a safety pin at the half way mark and fold each half in half again and put pins in. So 3 pins will divide the work into 4ths. Then just pick up and knit 15 stitches each 1/4, leave the pins in as you go so you only have to count from each pin.

Sorry i havn't posted for awhile but have been busy cutting down trees on our 20 acres and visiting with the in-laws whos family is over from England. Hubby goes back tonight but wife (My step neice) is here for another 2 weeks with the kids (3yrs and 11months).

popeye, I've used that needles yarn, it's fine for blankies and dog jackets, toys etc but I wouldn't use it for baby clothing. It's not bad value but occasionally you will come across a section which can only be described as "fluff" where it hasn't been processed properly. I could have picked some up for you and sent it (cheaper postage from me - hehe) as I was in Arthurs emporium on Friday. Comes in quite a wide range of colours.

HI Whiskey, thanks for the reminder to get the That's Life,. Will grab one on Tuesday. Sounds like a busy time with prunings and visitors.
Thanks Kuaka I will get some eventually to try. They have some pretty mixes eh.
Well the room is all but done.. I have to make the desk up, without a picture cos its gone (sob) from the auction. Then the last little bits to move cos I have a couple of boxes of stuff for my SIL.
Still have to get a couple more trays for wool. But otherwise sorted. Even got into my material stash, which is minuscule compaired to wool
Im worn out lol... but happy.
Still have to make the beds and cook tea. Then I shall get some knitting done. Yay

Hi Popeye - I have used that yarn for a rug. Not very soft and it fluffs up. They have lovely mixes. Pity it wasn't wool. I also left a message on one of his auctions and he didn't reply to me either. How rude.

Thanks all for your encouragement. I have a number of projects on the go. Two 1940s singlets that need crocheting around the neck in 2 ply.(havnt figured crocheting yet) One jumper 4ply for a 1 year old girl (next winter). One in the round 3 ply bottom down cardigan for a new born due in December (singlets are for her too). This is the one where I had to pickup 6 stitches between the front and sleeve on either side. (hole !!!)
I usually get bored after a back so start another pattern. There is also one more singlet waiting for the front to be done. Then bigger cardigans for next winter....1 x 2 year old 1 x 3 year old and 2 x 5 year old girls, and 2 x 5 year old twins and 2 x 7 year old twins (both sets of boys.)

Wow 4teeandkay you have a lot of projects on the go. I limit myself to two at a time.
Currently only one, Im knitting a blanket. the strips will be woven together then sewn.
Although Im changing my spare room into a craft room so I could say that's my project..
Not sure what I will do next. Although I want to do matching cushions for the blanket

morning :) We had a fabulous day yesterday doing the garden ramble in Rotorua - squeezed in seven awesome gardens and now have soooo many ideas! Quite a few ideas involve MrK building me things lol so more eye rolls and "I'll add it to the list shall I?" comments hehehehe.
I looked out the window 10 minutes ago and it was a stunning gorgeous day... just glanced out now and ommgg where did that fog come from? Can't believe how quickly it appeared.
Will try and get some knitting done today but I do need to weed (got the weeding down to a couple of hours now and not a week!)
Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies.
Beautiful day here. Lawn boys due this morning. So the Bobcat is inside. Much to his disgust. But they often bring their dog with them, a german shepherd. And the Bobcat doesn't like dogs.
Took a pill last night so have slept well, and the muscles have relaxed a bit.

Might take the pieces for the table into the office so we can have a look at how it goes together. Cos the picture has gone from when I brought it off here grr. So it will be guess work lol.
Nearly did another 50 ridges over the weekend, but will sit and knit today after Ive folded the washing.
Have a good day everyone

Stunning day here, but we have showers forecast for this afternoon. I didn't get any weeding done yesterday but I re-sprayed all the citrus trees again as the first lot of spray hadn't killed all the little critters which were plaguing the trees, then I swept all the dead totara leaves off the driveway - it was like a yellow carpet - well I say swept, I used the blower vac, which does it all except for the last couple of metres where the lead isn't long enough to reach. I had planned to do some more waterblasting, but ran out of puff, so I sat and knitted. Finished my 10 stitch blanket for bfb and did a few rows on my tunic, nearly up to the divide for the neck on the front, so then I'll have to write all the rows up again so I can cross them off as I do them. I'm like 4teeandkay, usually have at 3 or 4 projects on the go at once, and I usually complete them all in the end. I think the most I would ever have had on the go at once would be about 8, but usually finish them all in the end (apart from the couple of long time ufos)

Well ladies, I think I should really sit out on the deck and enjoy the sunshine and do some knitting while I have my cuppa, and then decide what to do today.

Have a great day everyone and happy knitting.

Tis finished Yay.. the room is finally finished. Ill take photos later.

I say finished, but I have a couple of boxes for my SIL. and I want to put something nice on the bedside table. Have my huge glass platter on there at the mo. But Im over that as it used to sit on the dining table. So Ill find something different for there.

The machines are on the desk. That was easy to put together. And its a good size too. And the one nick on the top is on the edge of the right hand side so wont snag material on it at all.
Still need a couple more trays for wool but other than that Im done..
yayay.. Finally

awesome news popeye, well done!
I've got some knitting done today but had a lady stop outside our home with a flat tyre. Was a flash European car so no spare tyre (never knew this lol) and had to have some stuff pumped into the tyre. Didn't work as the hole was a bit big so we called the local tyre people to come out and fix it for her. A cuppa and an hour or so later she was off. Amazing how many people we meet by staying home lol, we often have people stopping for directions etc.
Am teaching again tomorrow and Wednesday so no knitting for a couple of days.
This throw is determined not to get done lol.
Happy knitting :)

I didn't get around to doing any gardening, sort of got side-tracked on other things, but I managed to do some knitting, and I now have only two rows to do and then I start the neck shaping on my tunic. Hubby pointed out that I don't wear the other one now, (I responded that it's warmer now and I don't need to wear it - didn't mention that when I washed it and tried to stretch it lengthwise, I did such a good job of it, that it's now too long and too skinny and will probably have to do it again to get the sizing right).

The showers we were supposed to have this afternoon didn't eventuate, and it was too hot to garden, too hot even to just sit out on the deck, but it is raining now, so our beans and lettuces will love it. Now to settle in and get the neckline started on my tunic. Happy knitting everyone.

Off to school today and tomorrow so busy busy again.
Nearly finished the throw, around 50 rows to knit and the knitting is done.
Happy knitting :)

Morning all
Well done Popeye - what a sense of achievement you will have getting the craft room finished.
Happy teaching Kiwimade - the throw mustn't want to get finished hence pulls in extra work for you lol.
Finished knitting 2 little baby cardies yesterday just need the finishing off but that can wait - have started a basic cardy for someone next winter - see what size the babies are as to who actually gets it. Have a couple of books I want to read so no fancy patterns this time - I'll let the colour (apricot) be the focus.
Have to go out soon but hope to knit (and read) this pm
Have a good day all

Morning everyone.. Warm already. Overcast..
Yes I am chuffed the room is done. Ill take pics later on .

I started a Santa yesterday for us. not happy with the cheap red wool Im using so will undo it and change to a thicker one... When I stuff things I do it firmly and I know with the red I used the stuffing will show and Id never be happy with it.
Good your getting more hours Kiwimade.. it all helps at this time of year eh.
I love Apricot Jayemtoo, and I agree the colour will make the statement.
MrP still in bed so I think Ill duck up the road and come back and watch SoleMio on good morning on the delayed channel.

Have a good day everyone

Pantry on left with a bit of wool And cushions in bottom

Pantry on right with wool and you can see the bag of strips of knitting for my blanket

It looks soo much tidier than it was. And all the wool is easy to get at. Once My blanket is made that will free up another shelf for some of the wool that is crammed into the drawers.

I feel content that my house is now how I want it.

Not counting the garage of course, and that wont happen for a long time
