Grrrr! NZ Post.

I have just had a letter I posted returned to me with the lack of postage sticker on it. The letter was within the permitted size including thickness. I think that it was returned as I had used a 50c CAL for postage! Does NZ Post not recognize it's own stamps!! I shall go to my local post office on Monday to complain. I have posted about 30 envelopes in the last few weeks using CALs for collectors and this is the first one I have had back. Has anyone else struck this problem? Wow, I feel better now that I have had a bit of a vent!

The only CAL's NZ Post censors are the Tibet Flag ones.
All the other Cal's are recognised as regular allowable postage.
Did you use a Tibet Flag Cal as your postage ?

No it was a Radio NZ one. If I had a Tibet one I would hang on to it tightly, ha ha!

Could someone please tell me what this is, is it worth anything and is it worth putting in an auction. Thank you guys for your help so far.

looks like a cutout from a postcard/postal stationary if so not worth a thing.
Wait for another more informed response as I could be wrong and I stand to be corrected.
Regards Paul.

Just in case Stamp club participants are wondering about the Christchurch earthquake, the Stamp fair scheduled for earlier today at the philatelic centre was cancelled. There is some damage to displays in Christchurch outlet of Real Aotearoa (Much glasswear etc on floor) and shades stamp shop (My shop) has had quite a bit of material scattered off shelves and one display cabinet broken with glass shelves down. Both places are secure and probably will open later on Monday. I have only just got power back on at home where there were lots of books etc on the floor. an interesting time for sure!
regards to all Steven McLlachlan.

Further to my earlier posting, it looks likely that none of the stamp businesses in central Christchurch will be able to open at least until thursday so if you need to contact them use emails rather than phones. I have heard from several collectors whose houses are in a bad way with some most likely to need demolishing. one collector lost a philipines collection through a flooded with silt garage. No doubt other losses will be revealed in the fullness of time. The stamp clubrooms, the Philatelic Centre in Mandeville st, Riccarton has come thru unscathed with only 1 glass shelf broken and a few books off shelves.
Rgeards to all Steven

Hi, would someone please tell me the name of the 3d postage and revenue stamp that has 4 planes (in blue) floating around a wreath looking thing that has NZ,H(I think it's an H) and P within it. The inside bit with the planes is a wedgewood blue colour and the surrounding is mint green in colour. There is also "New Zealand" written in a banner along the bottom with wings at either end that have "3D.". Also how much would you be a fair 1940 price to offer the seller?. It is used but in very good condition with a light cancellation mark over the top portion (a little smudged on one side but nothing heavy or distracting). Selvage (?) is in good order - stamp is not tatty or worn looking in any way. Sorry not the greatest at describing. Please help - I like the stamp but don't want to insult the seller or pay far too much as I am just starting out. many thanks in advance. Sorry photo is crappy - doesn't do the stamp any justice http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/67/142869667_full.jp

It is part of a 1946 Peace set of 10 stamps and has a cat value of .50c.If I was you I would do a search and you should be able to pick up the whole set for around $2.00 to $3.00.
Regards Paul.

Hi All,
just found a way to rid the glue off self adhesives.
i have always used white spirits (fuelite 1 litre around $10), but scrapeing glue off didnt work that marvelous. so took the theory of my vinyl laying days, when we uplifted old vinyl and the glue on the floor was sticky, was to set it off with dry cement/various or compounds.
have done loads of nz mail, nz post ie- $1 motorsport, matariki, s/a. quicker than soaking normal and letting dry.
dip stamp in spirits for 2 seconds, peel off, (they come off really easy).
wait till sticky and place in any talcum powder (in dish) you may have.
i usually peel many at a time and place face down on table before bunging them into the talc.
then wipe with a cloth, the glue is set off and the stamp is perfect.
this makes these troublesome stamps a lot easier.
works well on modern world s/a.

these are New Zealand stamps. Postage and stamp department stamps used by the post office themselves. They are in the old kiwi catalogue but not the latest revenue book.

Thanks Murray. I will be reopening my shop tomorrow morning (Friday) as the building has been given the all clear and the no go cordons will be lifted in the morning. The Bus exchange is also scheduled to open in the morning as is nearby Ballantynes and many other retailers although i know many who will not. most foodshops won't open until next week but already the best coffee shops are open.

WELL DONE NZ POST

I'd just like to thank NZ Post who have been doing a great job here in Christchurch since the earthquake hit. We even got a delivery on Saturday and items I have sent this week have arrived across town the next day. It can't be an easy job to do at the moment.

NZ Post are saying there will be no postal deliveries in Canterbury tomorrow. They deserve a break.

This was posted on the council's website at 11 am.
'The CBD cordon remains in place this morning. Police, engineers and Civil Defence staff are assessing the area. The Cordon will be lifted progressively and updates will be available during the day'.

This affects streets between Colombo, Madras, Worcester and St Asaph St so there should be access to shops west of Colombo Street from Oxford Terrace.

Even the Tibet ones they DO permit to go through the mail (as the Tibetans paid the postage): they just like to cover them up with airmail stickers in case some passing Chinese secret policeperson should see it.

Hi People

I have been given quite a number of NZ stamps via inheritence. Now I'm not really a stamp collector and am wondering if it is worth selling on TM or through a dealer?
I have included a small sample of what I have been given.
Sorry about the pictures. Poor lighting.

Does anybody have a full list of the permanent pictorial postmarks currently in use around New Zealand?

Those I know about are as follows;

Mount Cook. (Mountain)
Akaroa. (Lighthouse)
Christchurch. (Cathedral)
Wellington (Cable car)
Ferrymead (Winged wheels)
Opononi
Ophir
Cape Reinga
Auckland
Bethleheim
Motat Auckland Museum of transport & technology.

Can anybody add to this list? there can't be many more.

So long as he is not mis describing or misleading anyone he can sell for what he wants and if anyone buys off him so what?Catalogue values are only a guide most people pay or buy under but a few pay/buy over. Some times it is a fine line when someone is ruining other peoples auctions well meaning or not.

Is this a stamp booklet purchased from NZ Post to be used for postage? If so and you can't use it as it has been misprinted it could be quite collectable. Perhaps it's something quite different so perhaps you could put a photo up here. You would be able to get more help then.
