Nothing unusual Looks like a collector selling up and moving I cut and pasted this from one of his auctions.(This auction includes everything I collected between 87 & now with the ONLY extraction being Sounds errors - which are listed separately. This is a genuine collection liquidation in it's entirety, not 'slim pickings' or a surplus sale. )
I am not surprised that he has accumulated this much and more to come..

If the year of issue is around 1971 then the NP would stand for "New Pence" as they currency changed from Pence Stirling to Pound Sterling.

Hi, I have a British stamp that has NP 1 NP printed over the bottom in black. What does this mean? ........does it perhaps mean no postage? Any help would be great. Thanks

These stamps are English stamps overprinted in 1957 for use in the British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia. Basically now the Trucial States or UAE in the Arabian Gulf. ie Dubai, Sharjah etc.

Thanks for that interesting! Does it add any extra value to the stamp?

It changes the stamp from an English on to that of another country. For value look up the catalogue but basically they are worth several times what the similar British stamp without the overprint is.
Sometimes the stamps were accepted for postage in the UK so for a used one you really need to have one used in the Postal Agencies in the gulf.

"Kiwi" Catalogue:
Yes just going though it. A bit disappointed that the "Departure Tax Stamps" listing does not include the ones from the international airports. Still we can always use the aussie listing of these to see what is available.

Do people still collect yearly stamp albums

Yes, sadly they do. They buy them from New Zealand Post read them once, pack them away and then 10 to 20 years later try to sell them. There is very little secondary market for them because anyone who wants one bought it years ago so resale value is usually worked out by what face value of usable postage there is and then selling the album for 50% of this. Annual albums have very little to do with stamp collecting. they are more like a coffee table book which when once read offers very little to an owner.

how do i go about selling my stamps can any one help.

this question has already been answered earlier. If you add nothing to the information you supply then nobody will bother help you. you need to say where you are (what city) what you have with regards to countries, mint stamps/used stamps, FDC's, how many. Do you have albums and albums or just one small envelope with some used stamps. nobody will bother giving you a long answer only to find you have just 50 cents worth of stamps. use some common sense and if you want help then there is plenty of it but you must be prepared to help yourself by providing some information on which people can answer. Its a bit like asking people "how do I go about selling a bottle with something in it?" if you ask a sensible question then you will get a sensible reply. Ask a stupid question (and you have done it twice now) then you don't really deserve anybody spending their valuable time helping you. think about it before asking such a question!

Hi there, thought this would be a good thread to ask in.

I have a collection of stamps, including NZ First Aid stamps, and many inherited and not looked at for forty years and I'm wondering if they are worth much to sell? Approx. 20,000 all up, mixture of NZ and worldwide.

Not soliciting a sale here, just a general inquiry and hoping that you stamp people may be able to help! TIA for any replies.

Just come into possession of an envelope date stamped 20 December 1950 in Paramatta with two 3d stamps on it. Its obviously been around for years. Any value or should I bin it?

Second question maybe not in this thread. With the envelope came a block of Tiki Green stamps These are green (as you would imagine) and show a bush or tree and have been overprinted S15. What are they?

it surprises me that New Zealand stamps should be postmarked in Paramatta as this Sydney suburb really has nothing to do with New Zealand and NZ stamps aren't postally valid there.

If they are New Zealand tiki stamps then perhaps they are the 1968 15 cent values so perhaps your S15 is part of the 15 cents value. None of these stamps were overprinted. perhaps this is a postmark?

If you can post an image somewhere then I'm sure we can identify it for you.

Reading your message again I see that the first item, the 1950 cover, you do not say what country it is from so I guess the stamps are Australian. nothing particularly valuable.

I have a stamp collection from when I was a kid, must be 1000's of stamps in it, NZ and world. Am thinking it may be time to cash some of it in as the money would be really handy in my family right now. I know nothing of the value of stamps. Do I get the albums appraised? Who do you trust? Cost to do this? Sell individually or in groups? I'd love some good advise on this.

Don't get your expectations up too much because unless somebody was serious about their collecting and spent money at some stage then it is unlikely that you will have much of value unless you are really lucky. very few kids spend their money wisely. mostly they buy the cheap pretty stamps that end up being of little value. most also have very little to spend anyway. Still it is always possible that you might have some luck so its best to have the collection looked at by a reliable dealer who should not charge you for a verbal appraisal. Take a look at the yellow pages for a stamp dealer and especially one who is a member of the stamp dealers Association.

mmm sounds like sour grapes ,neither you or Steven can profit out of this they live in Levin.
The one big advantage of dealing with Stamp dealers with the NZSDA is that you do have comeback and a degree of respectability plus a knowledge base and networking..
It is advisable to get at least two different opinions.

With the Pty meaning Proprietary Company indicating it is an Australian item I'd say they are trading or discount stamps issued by an Australian retailer. the style indicates probably of 1970's period so sadly of little value.

Don that was an oversight and wasn't meant to pick you out. I had forgotten you were no longer a member of NZSDA. i should have said look for somebody of long standing or a member of a reputable stamp trade or similar trade organisation.

Quiet day at work so been looking at and talkikng about stamps with the boss. I now have the three different sets of the 1996 Scenic definitives - but sadly to Tory Channel error.

We both think NZ post has created a scenario with the Self-adhesive stamps with the different style perfortations at the corner - not that we mind having more variety - but the problem we seem to have is the time to look at such stamps and notice these sometimes "subtle" changes within the same issue.

There are a few more variations in these - a thick & a thin paper used in some of the ones from rolls, and some variations in the whites and grey colors near the margins too..

Unlike Australia Post I thought NZ Post no longer had a significant collection?. "The New Zealand Post Collection" was gifted to Te Papa in 1992. (stamps, orginal artwork, proofs, dies, and printing plates etc.)

Has anyone noticed a complete reduction of spam ?

I have also noted that emails sent to me from overseas are returned as 'undeliverable' etc.

So it seems those server that apply spamfilters are overplaying their activity, blocking messages that are not in fact spam but messages of importance.

The recipient is pleased as he gets no spam but unaware that messages were sent to him to respond to.

This leads to total blocking, cyber control of which the email user is unaware.

This also restricts stamp business on the web - are YOU a victim ?
