Hi Rae.. try for a place on Trademe too.. my Daughter found places in Wellington then Hamilton through here - you can set the search up on the left to look for an apartment or townhouse..

Good luck :-)

Lol Pam - that's for sure!
Could write a dictionary of 'what they say' & 'what it really means'!!

Good tip elliehen but I want ... no I NEED my own place :)
Couldn't cope with walking into the kitchen and seeing a flatmate abusing 1 of my knives!!!

Thanks Julie - trademe emails me daily with new properties so something will come along. Looking at 2 first thing in the morning.

It was 20 degrees here in Havelock North today - why would you live anywhere else!!!!

What are you going to study winnie? I am doing a Health Science degree with Massey but studying extramural - fun, but very tough. My memory has been diminished by too much excellent Hawke's Bay Red wine!

Morning all,
we're going to the Art Gallery this afternoon for a dose of culture so something to look forward to if the apartments are a let down again.
nfh1 - I'm doing a Diploma in Tourism & Travel Management ... looking forward to it & hope I can get the cogs turning again after 20+ years!!!

Cogs will definitely turn winnie - I am almost 54 and although I did struggle on the first couple of papers am finding it much easier now. Good Luck with your studies.

I knew a woman who finished her degree at 87. Her father had pulled her from university after her first year because he believed (a sad product of his time) that if she became over-educated she would not find a husband!

I do not have a time scale in mind, doing 3 papers a year at the moment so will take me 8 years without a break! Would like to finish before I am 87 though.

Shocking attitude about educated women though - still see it occasionally now - very sad.

Thanks guys & gals.
Need to go shopping to get it furnished now ... it's actually cheaper for me to buy a fridge freezer, washing machine, bed & sofa here than to ship mine down from Golden Bay!
Lots of bargins to be had on TM lol.

Nice to see you back charlieb ... I'd love to meet you for a coffee sometime :) Turning some cyber friends from here into real ones would be nice.

HI, nice to see you back charlie, have a good trip cooks. And winnie - it doesnt matter how basic your surroundings are - it is what you do to make your little place your own and how much you enjoy it that counts.

Hi Pam,
sounds like you're having a grand time! Good on you :)
Thanks so much for getting the magazine ... I cant wait!!!
I'm going to limit my reading time to make it last longer :)
The scenery on the great ocean road trip must be spectacular - it's on my bucket list ... but over a couple of days.
Have fun at the trade fair ... it must be a cooks paradise!

Hi charlieb ... I've bought several merino tops in the last week!!!

I'll be in Linwood ... 1.7km to my school & 2km to city center.
Close enough to walk & near a bus route if I wimp out because of bad weather :)

Definately looking forward to spring!!!

It's very, very cheap to buy new in Chch at the moment ... everyone's having their winter clearance sales.
Definately an advantage to the big city!

I heard about the rain - daughter was going to walk a neighbour's dog on the beach but is housebound. Gives her more time to work on her homework & correspondence lol

Just told my husband that how envious I was of the idea of all that time just browsing in kitchenware and I swear he went visibly paler! Although he could spend quite a lot of time in shops with impressive collections of cooks knives. Mind you vis a vis earlier comments about knife sharpening he sharpened ours with his usual enthusiasm last week and I ended up in A&E with a cut tendon in my finger. Might be taking up your suggestion of the ceramic knife sharpener quite soon as I'm not sure that he'll be quite so keen in future.

That sounds interesting. Certainly the sky's the limit to the amount you can spend - if you have it.
It amuses me when people put in huge kitchens. The best ones I've ever cooked in are small, galley design.

Next Sunday morning, on National Radio, Chris Laidlaw is interviewing someone about why people nowadays spend so much time and money re-doing their kitchens!

Oh I've already answered that question in another thread. It is because if husbands didn't have to spend vast amounts of money renovating kitchens every 10-15 years they'd just go and spend the money on fast cars and equally fast women.

Hi guys. I always thought I'd stay out of this hypocrites thread and leave you all to your smug, self-congratulations but now I feel moved to add my voice.

If you and your pals want to claim the moral high ground on niceness and peace then you really should stop going around as a group and posting jeering irrelevancies in other threads. I will, from now on do the same in here and in any other thread you lot post in and let me see just exactly how you like it.

Kay if you want to talk to me then you'll have to bring your sniping over here. This is the place where all the friendly people like to meet and I'm a real friendly person. Come and show us your true colours.

I bought cooks into it because in all the years she has been posting Alison Holst recipes and those posted from the net elli has never once informed her that she at least, minimum needs to tell people where the recipe came from and whether she has actually cooked it herself and yet elli feels the need to tell me that I need to reference everything I write, right down to the exact line from the page.

Buzzy110... I always wondered it this thread was what you called the "hypocrites thread".

Isn't that funny... I have always viewed it as a nice friendly supportive thread, where people exchange pleasantries and show a genuine interest in how others are getting on. I find nothing hypocritical about it, as luckliy its how alot of us (believe it or not) lead our life.

All I ask is that if people do come in this thread to stir... for what ever reason we just ignore them... I know I intend to.

My next house is going to have a huge kitchen dazz.... mainly because I have always wanted a table and chairs in it for everyday dining.. and I really really want a butlers pantry....
Sadly this last house we built space was an issue....

Yes toadfish. You all exchange pleasantries and come across as really nice people but then some of you really nice people go out to other threads and snipe and jeer and write really negative and nasty things. Personally, I would have stayed out of this thread and left them to it but it seems that some of you are looking to start a fight with me so I thought I'd have the fight over here so that those nice people, who aren't jeering and nasty can see just how hypocritical some of you actually are.

Also I now have no qualms about ruining your own lovely thread just as the snipers and jeerers have no qualms wrecking the food lies thread.

There have been people who have been helped by that thread. They have used it as a base to go and find further information for themselves that they'd never have known where to look otherwise. I personally have been sent thanks by people whose lives have been turned around but that isn't good enough for some of the posters in this thread apparently.

Hi buzzy - I'm not quite who your gripe is with ... I certainly haven't been doing any jeering anywhere ... and if you have a read - you will see alot of posts in this thread are to do with me & the new chapter I'm entering in life.
Please don't bring the tone of this thread down - by bringing in personal issues - it would be a real shame.
This thread is simply about sharing who we are & where we're at - and I'd love it to stay that way.
We will clash with people here as we do in real life ... that's ok - we're all different.
I agree with some things you have had to say in threads ... and disagreed with others ... and the same goes for elliehen, bedazz ... even my mate fisher!
But those points of view get left by the door ... when we enter this thread ... so we can meet & greet on neutral & friendly ground.
With respect, Rae.

Sounds like things are falling into place for you winnie.. Auckland_Ali and I & some of the other bunch of "losers" from the old thread are talking about an overnight to Christchurch... so we must meet up if we do.

I just need to get off my A#*& and organise something.. I have been so busy of late and its only a bout of tonsilitis and middle ear infection this weekend (Joy o Joy) that has kept me inside and catching up with things on the computer. In fact as hard as it to believe.. i kind of have enjoyed doing absolutely nothing for a change...

Winnie the Food Lies thread is about sharing knowledge about the current nutritional advice and for the most part that is how it stayed, but then ellihen, kay, fisher, ferita (all I can think of at present) decided they'd get in there and start jeering and throwing insults and criticism. I too would prefer it if they kept their remarks to nutrition and the current advice dished out by our health watchdogs but they are having much more fun being belligerent.

Now I know you want me to go away, and I will, just as soon as they leave the Food Lies thread in peace and stop attacking me personally.

ferita - To answer the question you posted in Food Lies I'd have to reproduce in complete detail every page in Gary Taubes Diet Delusion. If you really do want the answer to your question and don't just want to continue with your nasty vendetta then why not get a copy of the book and read it for yourself.
