| I don't use 4 needles for the wee sox I knit, just 2. Yes, there is a seam down the inside of the leg sewn carefully there is no ridge to cause discomfort. The pattern I use was given to me by my mother-in-law more than 20 years ago and I have scaled it down for babies. Will look to see if there is a pattern book that has it. grizzly4 - 2007-09-23 09:56:00 |
| Zoe.......how are you doing? have been thinking about you alot this past week. Hope all is as well as it can be for you. (((hugs)))) to you. :) woolshed3 - 2007-09-23 17:12:00 |
| hi makere ... great score on the curtains! Well done. Socks, have you thought about circular needles? I knit socks two at a time on one long circular. One of the advantages is no row / round counting, just knit from the toe and turn the heels when they are the right length. bll - 2007-09-23 20:31:00 |
| Hi Girls Thanks for the suggestions. Never tried circular needles before. Had a lousy day. My back is giving me a bit of grief. Feels like it did before I had surgery on it. I may as well face it I am on the downhill slope ha ha. Love those buttons bll arrived today now I have to think of something to match them to. I have a pile of knitting to sew up but my darn arthritis in my hands seem to be playing up in sympathy with my back ugh. Maybe it's the weather!!! makerealbany - 2007-09-24 23:45:00 |
| You sound in a bad way, makerealbany I have more pain this time of the year when things start warming up than I do when it's really cold so I sympathise. It must be frustrating when you obviously have lots of projects on the go! grizzly4 - 2007-09-25 07:54:00 |
| Hi Zoe! Thinking of you! grizzly4 - 2007-09-25 07:55:00 |
| Hi grizzly I just coast along when I get like this as I am sure you do and then off I go again. Ha ha. It is when my arthritis in my feet play up until the nobs calcify that really limits me at times. It passes. Knitting is great for arthritis helps keep my fingers nimble. Have a great day. makerealbany - 2007-09-25 12:56:00 |
| Hi Zoe Are you there girl. What are you up to? makerealbany - 2007-09-25 12:57:00 |

| hi Noeline.... wow! tri-chem fabric paints! now that brings back memories! I was right into that a few years back now.. I did pillowslips, tablecloths, baby clothes, bibs etc... they were a great money spinner!!! woolshed3 - 2007-09-25 14:49:00 |
| hi woolshed3 yes they are great money spinners i use the jeweltone and make butterflys and window art plus tablecolths have alot of fun with it noeline noelinetaylor - 2007-09-25 16:49:00 |
| I still get to play with Tri Chem once in a while both Jeweltone and fabric paints as we have both an After School Programme and a Women's craft group where I work. Wonderful stuff! grizzly4 - 2007-09-25 17:57:00 |
| Hi Noeline Never tried Tri Chem but Mum has. She has some lovely supperclothes. My grandchildren are always after funky tee shirts and I have been looking for something else to keep them occupied during the school hols. Might get Mum to show them how. There have been some great little kits available for all sorts of things for the kids to try. Tried paper making but they want instant results. ha ha makerealbany - 2007-09-26 21:21:00 |
| Got some circular needles girls Will test them out when they arrive. Have to take Master 4 to feed the chooks and roosters outside in the village tomorrow so will also take him into the Library and try an source a pattern for these needles.Went to Hamilton today for the funeral of a dear mate. It was a shock only got sick 12 weeks ago. I seem to be losing friends all over the place lately. I know it is life but it is so sad. His family and friends will really miss him. He was such a caring person. makerealbany - 2007-09-26 21:31:00 |
| Whats everyone up to? Who is making what today? Finally grouted bathroom tiles. Had to sit on my butt and then nearly lay on the floor to finish. Bit different to mosaics where you can move the project this way and that. I am positive that tile layers earn their money. ha ha. Have not heard from Zoe for awhile. Hope she is okay. do you hear that Zoe? makerealbany - 2007-09-27 21:42:00 |
| *pokes head in* hi everyone!Im demonandfairy and Ive just taken up scrapbooking which is lots of fun and fills in the day and evenings a bit.Im a stay at home mum and have depression and am trying to find new and fun ways to help pull myself out of the black hole Im in a scrapbooking is one of them.Ive also started making some noisy toys for my daughter so that should be fun too!Lets see how creative I can get! demonandfairy - 2007-09-28 00:11:00 |
| good on you demonandfairy!! scrapbooking has a wonderful way, of putting troubles behind you. I have a friend who lost her little grandson earlier this year, and I introduced her to scrapbooking as a way to get through her grief. She is now totally hooked and found it very theraputic... Keep it up demonandfairy and things should start looking a bit brighter soon..one day at a time. woolshed3 - 2007-09-28 07:37:00 |
| Yay I have the day off today, trouble is I have to wait for a plumber to fix the hot water pressure in our shower!! Could be a great craft/gardening day. I have a cardy to sew up and a pair of pink & white bootees on the go, not to mention cross-stitch and a great novel and 3 lots of bedding plants. grizzly4 - 2007-09-28 08:52:00 |
| makere ... how long are your needles? I'm off to find you some websites. bll - 2007-09-28 09:06:00 |
| socks on circulars http://www.az.com/~andrade/knit/twocirculars.html ... http://www.az.com/~andrade/knit/mloop.html ... http://www.webdesignsbybarb.com/tostetoes/twosocksoneneedlet bll - 2007-09-28 09:14:00 |
| So much for the long list I had for yesterday. Five loads of laundry later (did blankets as it it was a sunny day) and a trip to the vet with one of my cats all I managed was a hours cross-stitch! grizzly4 - 2007-09-29 08:55:00 |
| Grizzly I know how you feel! Housework seems never ending!I got no scrapbooking done last night I decided to clean instead!I never seem to be able to get everything done!! demonandfairy - 2007-09-29 09:55:00 |
| Hi bll Thanks for the info. Looked up sites and was impressed. I bought a pair of circular needles on trade me. 3.5 by 60 but I am bidding on others. Have not knitted a stitch last two days. Had eldest son's 41st Birthday dinner tonight. Spent the day baking and had 4 lots of visitors in between the baking and icing etc. Had a great day with the family. Last two days also had youngest grandson organizing my days for me ha ha. My fingers are positively itching so tomorrow I will do some knitting and ignore the housework. After all you cannot clean everyday can you? makerealbany - 2007-09-30 00:00:00 |
| Hi demonandfairy I did buy a scrap booking kit but it is packed with most other things but one of my friends has made some beautiful books for her grandchildren and she always make all the cards for special occasions for us all. makerealbany - 2007-09-30 00:04:00 |
| Hi grizzly How is your cat? One of mine is hiding in the bush. She is rather timid when we have visitors she hides and pops out in the morning. Just came in from calling her quietly of course at this time of the night, but no luck. At 5 or thereabouts Dayla will give me a call outside my ranchslider. makerealbany - 2007-09-30 00:08:00 |
| Thanks for asking she's fine but apparently there is conjunctivitis going round the cats in Christchurch! Good grief and I have 3!! And people can catch it off them!!!! Eyedrops for her, carefully watching the others and lots of handwashing for me!!!!! grizzly4 - 2007-09-30 10:28:00 |
| #223 LOL, no, but with two little ones i think I should clean more than I do! So much to do, its often hard to fit in hobby time. But it sounds like you had a great time partying anyway. We all need signs to hang on the front door: "Go away, crafter at work, do not disturb" bll - 2007-09-30 11:38:00 |
| Hi grizzly My son's cat had that probelm and I had to babysit the cat as well as my grandson. Lots of bathing helped clear it up. Dayla started squalling at 5 this morning and I had to go and rescue her from the neighbour's cat. Both our cats are spade and neutered but the neighbours cats always come up and cause havoc at night. No trouble during the day because the dogs are out but hell at night. makerealbany - 2007-09-30 14:38:00 |
| Cool idea bll Maybe I will make a sign up. ha ha.Still did washing today and had to hoover because of all the traffic yesterday but have the needles ready to go and a movie booked ha.ha Have a great day. makerealbany - 2007-09-30 14:41:00 |
| have fun, my friend ... I might join you and get some more of my jersey done. Should be finished just in time for SUMMER!! rotfl bll - 2007-09-30 16:08:00 |
| My girls (cats) are kept in at night and always have been. They will all be 7 years by Christmas. I keep them in because of the fight injuries although all are spayed and because of wet bodies climbing back into bed if it rains!!!! They have their freedom during the day with their cat door. grizzly4 - 2007-10-01 08:21:00 |
| Have included a photo of the cardy I have just finished. (I usually forget!) grizzly4 - 2007-10-02 09:01:00 |
| is it just me or does that link not work? help, Griz! bll - 2007-10-02 17:48:00 |
| Oh no! This is the first time I have tried to put a photo link into my message. Any ideas where I may have gone wrong. As you can see the photo is definitely on my Tm photos what do I do then? grizzly4 - 2007-10-02 18:13:00 |
| Yay, I don't think it's me as a put the link on another thread 'What's everyone knitting?' and they can pick it up. Phew! grizzly4 - 2007-10-02 18:21:00 |
| Then again! Check out how you are spelling photoserver! Don't spell it like I did in the link!!!!! grizzly4 - 2007-10-02 18:31:00 |
| ah, there you go ... guess I shoulda looked closer! bll - 2007-10-02 19:01:00 |
| NEAT! Is that white Powder Puff? bll - 2007-10-02 19:02:00 |
| Hi there I cannot get the link now grizzly. Thought I spelt it right too.. Will try again. Boy did we have a bad night. Rotten storm a tree came down. Although that is not a rare event at this property. Thank heavens this one missed the powerlines and the driveway unlike the last one. Just waiting on the plumber to plumb in the vanity unit and hot water system and I will have the bathroom doen in the cottage. makerealbany - 2007-10-02 23:05:00 |
| Bedroom just needs carpet So next week I will move into the cottage. Kitchen and lounge area need a lot of work though. It will be so nice to have my own little pad after living in the main house for 14 months. I am so used to living alone it is difficult to not be alone. ha ha. Wasn't that diplomatic. I should have been a Politician. makerealbany - 2007-10-02 23:09:00 |
| Still cannot get that link Dash it all. makerealbany - 2007-10-02 23:31:00 |
| Yes bll it is white powder puff and green zhivago. It's the weirdest pattern to do I might add but very effective. grizzly4 - 2007-10-03 08:30:00 |
| makerealbany your cottage sounds excellent! And I think you are amazing doing all the DIY stuff yourself. grizzly4 - 2007-10-03 08:32:00 |
| makerealbany ... I'm so excited for you, it will be great after all your hard work. A little jealous too, I might add! bll - 2007-10-03 10:18:00 |
| Freezing Here It is so cold here and the wind is so fierce. Tanks are full. Have to go to the library for inspiration. I want to paint some pieces of furniture and recover things but want some fresh ideas. I want colour, colour and more colour. It is a cottage after all. Like the idea of some distressed furniture. Mahogany and Rimu furniture pieces are just too big. Kids will benefit as they usually do. Lol. I can get some links but not others. Bugging me now!!!! makerealbany - 2007-10-03 10:51:00 |
| Excited too This will be the smallest house I have ever lived in. Will not take long to do the housework but then I will have the main house to do after all have to protect one's investment.!!!! Seriously I KEEP GOING OVER TO THE COTTAGE TO REASSURE MYSELF IT IS STILL THERE. Funny how as we get older we are easier to please. Have a happy day everyone. makerealbany - 2007-10-03 10:56:00 |
| Home now Warehouse have reduced their wool by 50%. So cold out there. Is it cold elsewhere in the country. I wore my coat and a scarf. Now I have to get the wood in to light the fire. urg. Daughter's partner home Thurs no more wood detail for me for a month.Yay. He is in NZ for a month then works overseas for a month and since she is pregnant it gets hard at times. She works such long days and then gets home and continues to work on her laptop. Wish they had never been invented.!!!! plus cellphones always ringing for her. Mind you I always take mine when I am driving just in case I have to ring the AA. makerealbany - 2007-10-03 15:42:00 |
| you are wise to take your phone out with you. Not long ago I had been off work with torn tendons in my back and my grandson needed to go to a school dance so we had mcds on the way. Fatal mistake as I could not restart the car. I hadnt used it for so long so off to the house across the road in my pjs to use the phone in their lounge of all places. Never again will I go out with out my phone. smartgirl - 2007-10-03 19:58:00 |
| Hi smartgirl Been there done that Lol. How is your back/ Had to have surgery on mine. Had two prolapsed discs that were so jagged put pressure on my spine. Was not nice. Cannot do a lot of the things I used to do and for a country girl that is frustrating. Look after your back girl. I still dream about the days I used to throw 40kgs of pig food over the sty walls. Ha Ha not that I reaaaally miss that activity. makerealbany - 2007-10-03 23:03:00 |
| Hi makerealbany my back is so so, I had to sleep on the couch for 6 week, i just could not lie in bed. worst thing is that i am so unfit now but with the weather picking up i intend to do something about that. smartgirl - 2007-10-04 07:27:00 |
