I reckon you can never have too much wool either

Morning Everyone.. I slept in oops, that's rare for me

May I pick everyones brains.
Last night I used a chicken seasoning on the chicken for tea. It wasn't till tea was cooking that I noticed the seasoning date was well expired. 2 hours after tea I had these two big burning patches on my arms, it feels swollen and they are burning and bumpy like tiny pimples.I feel a bit blah today too in the tummy
Would that be Hives? Ive only had them once when I was young and cant really remember what they were like.

I assume its an allergic reaction, is there anything you do for hives?

I crochet so much yesterday my arms are aching lol.. Diff use of muscles.

Ohh Kiwimade not good re the camera.

popeye, not really sure about the hives. I think when the kids had hives they had lots of raised spots. I've used stuff well after it's use by date heaps of times and never had any ill effects from it, but then I've got cast iron guts! not like hubby who has a cheap Made in Taiwan guts, and seems to get an upset tummy at the thought of eating something PUBD.

Kiwimade, that's awful re the camera. I hope it turns up. Maybe she should contact the hospital and ask if it's been handed in. There's some real scumbags around.

Well I did a little knitting yesterday, and a little crochet, but I also mowed two of our lawns (they are very tiny) and did some drastic weeding, now I have a sore back. Might start on the next curtain today - it's a big one, big wide bi-fold doors.

Spent quite some time on skype last night talking to my step-son in Thailand, and he tells me I should be able to go into settings and set it so that there's an icon in the task bar or tool bar which shows when one of my contacts is available. I can't seem to sort that out. Can anyone here help me, I don't really want to ask over in computing as they tend to be a bunch of techn-geeks who talk as though you're a complete idiot.

Have a great day everyone.

had to log onto skype to figure that one out kuaka lol. OK, here goes :)
Click on tools and then on options in your skype window box. Look down the left hand side and there should be a list of things you can do. Go to 'notifications' and click on it. Another list of things you can tick should appear. The first one is the box you are looking for as it's the 'show notifications when someone comes online' box. Click on it so a tick appears then go down and save it. Should do the trick! It is so useful as you can have skype down in the task bar but know when someone comes online without having to look all the time.
Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone. I went to chemist and they gave me some oral meds. And suggested I put hand cream in the fridge and use that to cool the hives down. More likely to be something Ive come into contact with apparently. And the only thing I can think of is was at the oppy looking at pants for MrP so if could have been some fabric.

Ended up at the drs this afternoon. Having heart pain down my arm. It has settled thank goodness and ecg came back ok. but if it comes back worse Ill call the ambo.
Have text my twin to see if Im getting his pain.
It has eased somewhat now thank goodness.

So no knitting etc so far.

I don't like Skype, much rather have MSN.. Lol. Hope you get it sorted kuaka

I'll try later, but not a biggie if I don't - looking at the reviews of skype with windows 8 sounds like it's not as user-friendly as it is with some other operating systems - just my luck eh?

kuaka - 2013-10-04 18:37:00

popeye, have you tried aloe vera gel for the hives? I keep some in the fridge for bites and scratches and sunburn. It soothes and 'calms' the skin down.
Not good about your heart, you're not having much luck lately!
Hope you are feeling better this evening :)

morning :) yep another foggy start to the Waikato day eh carole. I'm going to get the dishes done then head out to do more weeding while the day is cool. Found some sunflower seeds so will find a spot to plant them.
No knitting done here, too much outside stuff needing to be done... and I left my crochet hooks in whanganui lol. Never mind, daughter will being them and MrK's jacket with her when they all come home for Christmas.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone... Yeah I seem to be having a run of not great health. Ill get there in the end tho.

Im a strange one Kiwimade. I cant use Aloevera. It aggravates my skin. Which annoys me really cos I used to have a good plant and break a bit off and kept it in the fridge so nice and cold.. Till I figured out that it was making things worse.
The heat is dissipating on the hives this morning, they must be dam good meds these Loraclear antihistamines.
Spoke to my twin yesterday to see if I was having his heart pain.. hes in the coronary care Unit in Melbourne. Has to have a triple bypass now. ive told him he needs to let me know the day he has his opp, I don't plan on feeling that pain again lol.

I hate the black sand too Carole. We have a choice here the black sand and wild Kariotahi beach is about 8kms west and the white sand of the Manukau harbour is about 1km from our house.
Funny tho our town is so laid back in the summer that a lot of people walk round in bare feet, in shops etc and covered in sand too. Like its expected as being a beach town.

I finished knitting the singlet last night. So have to sew it up and do the crochet around the arms and neck. Then I will concentrate on the blanket.

Ohh Kiwimade do you remember how big the shawl was that you made? Its so long since I did a babies blanket I cant remember what size I made them. Im thinking for a pram blanket or a bit bigger to cover the top in a cot.

Have a wonderfull day everyone

popeye333 - 2013-10-05 09:01:00
2410

just popped in after weeding along the roadside, looks so much better :).
It was biggggg popeye, about the size of my table lol. Next time I make it, I'll use smaller needles and not the recommended size. Was wayyy too big. But then, it was circular too so sizing can be a bit deceiving.
The cot blanket I made was roughly half the size of a single blanket.
Time to get the dishes done (snuck out without doing them lol) and have a cuppa, then back outside.
Happy knitting.

kiwimade64 - 2013-10-05 09:40:00

Not sure what I will do today, the lawns won out over the curtain yesterday and last night I was absolutely knackered, had trouble staying awake till bedtime, slept like a log and this morning I feel half-dead, and the thumb on my left hand is giving me trouble - think it's probably arthritis, very painful.

I tried to sort that skype thing out, and no luck, I can't find anywhere in tools or settings that relate to skype and there is no skype window box. I suppose I'll have to go over to computing and ask them. I think it's something weird about the windows 8 version.

Have a great day everyone.

kuaka - 2013-10-05 09:50:00
2412

Thanks Kiwimade.. I had a look at cot blankets on here. They basically ranged from 80cms square and up.. Ill have a look when I get to a metre then finish the colour pattern. So it will end up bigger than the metre. Aiming more for it to be used in a pram type thing so don't want it huge either.

Kuaka, one way to sort that arthritis, keep knitting... My fingers used to ache terribly when I don't knit.

We are both feeling very very run down. No enegery.

Ive sewn the singlet and crochet round the neck etc. Will do some on blankets later.

As soon as I find some get up and go lol

I wondered about that popeye, just keep on keeping on eh?

Just realised that my driving licence expired yesterday! I saw when I applied for my pension that I had a couple of months to go, just didn't realise that the two months had whizzed by so quickly. So now I can drive but don't have a licence, Mr K has a licence but feels he can't drive because his eyesight isn't good enough.

phone land transport on Monday and work it out, think they give you a few weeks grace, getting out is hard work kuaka

I think you have a year to renew it, a day over and you have to resit your licence. Just come in from more weeding, getting too hot out there now. Not enough leaves on our trees yet to give me shade as I garden lol. Will be up at a sparrows fart tomorrow and do more before the day gets too hot.
I found a bag of dahlia tubers which are sprouting so will finish the area I'm working in and plant them against the fence. MrK has planted out the passionfruit plant I bought last summer and has been growing in it's pot. Sweet Williams are in and some dianthus cuttings I've had growing in a glass of water over winter are in the ground. I'm slowly but surely getting the edges of my garden planted. It's taken me a few years to fill the gaps.
Got some salvias which need planting out too, MrK said he would do that.
Might just put my feet up and knit for a while after my shower.
Happy knitting :)

bugggarrrr carole! Such a pain in the butt. Thanks for the offer, I need to weed first and this is going to take a while. Even though I kept the weeding up over winter, everything has gone nuts. The week we were away was really warm and there was a bit of warmish rain as well so it all grew quickly, including the weeds.
Just finishing my coffee, then outside for me.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone...

Ohh Carole not good, stay comfy and hopefully it will go away.

You have a lot of planting to do Kiwimade.. Love sweet Williams they were Mrps Aunts fave flower.

I did something last night that is so rare I don't remember how long since Ive done it lol..
I slept right through, didn't get up or wake up at all. Wasn't drug induced either lol. I do feel good for it too, even tho Im creaky from not moving lol

I can see Im going to have to try this 10 stitch Blanket. GMS is onto hers now too.
I was thinking last night I haven't never done an orange crochet blanket, easy enough to find the colours .. red is something Id like to do but you don't generally get a dark and light red, it would have to be red and pink and Im not sure about that.
We will be in town this week so Ill go to spotlight for some verigated wool too.
I see James c Brett has 15% off... BADDDDDD lol

Have a good day all. Going to watch Kirstys craft show now on living

Arghhh my hives are itching like mad. Thought they were improving, but they seem to be spreading and itching, but not as hot as they were.
Wonder what on earth is causing them.

I have 1.5 rounds to go and Im finished on the blanket. Need to look back as see when I started it, cant remember if it was Monday or Tuesday.

Lovely day for gardening.

Thanks Carole, and it was Your 10 stitch blanket I was talking about this morning. I think I put that it was Sues. I remembered hers has verigated wool in it too

Has anyone used the "needles" brand wool. There's a lot listed on here. I googled and it looks like its Chinese.

Cheap enough by the looks, but one never knows if it will be nasty as well.

popeye333 - 2013-10-06 16:52:00
2426

I've used it popeye, only for blankets, toys, tea cosies, dog jackets, slippers, wouldn't use it for knitwear or babywear. It's quite soft for acrylic, and not too bad really, but I have occasionally come across big clumps of "fluffy" stuff, where it obviously hasn't been processed properly and the quality control isn't what you would like it to be if you were paying a premium price for it, but as it's cheap, I don't worry about it. Also, if you take the trouble to weigh it, the quantity isn't consistent, I've had balls that weigh only 71 grams and others that weight up to 120 grams.

At the emporium in Whangarei it's $3 for plain colours and $3.50 for the multicoloured stuff which is good value for 100g (unless you're able to order heaps from Deramores)

morning :) I think I have a blockage in the hose for my washing machine as water isn't going in so will fix that this morning. Then it's back outside until it gets too hot. Think I've done the worst of the weeding - I keep reminding myself of what my spring weeding was like in previous years when I haven't been able to keep up over winter. Am stiff from bending over but that is just lack of fitness and by the end of the week I'll hardly notice it.
Might get some knitting done this afternoon all going well.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Thanks for that Kuaka... It is cheap and would be good for blankets etc. There is some verigated on here that I like so ill see what spotlights is like pricewise. I imagine they wont be able to beat that I don't think. The verigated on here is $3 a ball too.
Wow Carole it must make the day hard when yu don't have a good sleep.
You have done well Kiwimade. I don't care for gardening, so ours are not looking good. And until my back is stable nothing will get done, although I might get help in before family comes to stay.

My back is getting better slowly but it still tires easy. The shingles were chronic last night but are quite good at this stage today. Im wondering if I had a rare reaction to the Oxycontin I took for my back, cos I googled the side effects and hives and heart trouble are two of the rarer side effects.
Taking MrP to the drs this morning so I will ask.

Am back on my own blanket again now.

Have a fab day everyone

I just had a look Kuaka, the person selling the verigated acrylic wool on here is Arthurs Emporium Whangarei lol... Must be the one you go to. $30 for 10 balls so cheaper to buy on here. Didn't look at postage tho

popeye333 - 2013-10-07 08:21:00
2431

popeye, I think it used to be $7 postage for 10 balls, but haven't looked since NZ Post changed their postage - actually come to think of it, not sure if it's sent NZ Post or courier. I bought a gazebo from Arthurs a few years back (direct, before they started selling on here) and they only charged me $10 to courier it to me, which I thought was brilliant.

Going to try to do the seams on my next curtain today, I cut them out on Saturday, pinned them yesterday and hope to sew them today, and get the stiffening attached to the top, but probably won't get much further than that. Will do some knitting too - up to the armhole on the back of my next tunic - it is looking good. Also crocheting a blanket for a friends grandson due soon, almost finished that. Walk along the beach planned, have to replace the gas bottle as that ran out last night while I was cooking tea, and that is a mission and a half, because of the stupid place that the bottle is located. I have to climb a step-ladder with the bottle - it's on a shelf high up under the house!

Have a great day everyone.

just come in for a cuppa although it looks like rain so maybe I should still be outside lol.
The repairman is coming today to fix the washingmachine, looks like it's the electronic board. All the lights were flashing, lotttsss of beeping lol. I saw that as a pretty good hint something was wrong :P.
Think I might skip the cuppa and get back out there.
happy knitting :)

kiwimade. I am lucky MrT can fix my washing machine, he can fix most things. we have FOG and I am having 2 grand kids today. so will take them shopping. can't knit or sew with them around my blankets coming on great

carolev - 2013-10-08 06:52:00
2434

morning :) MrK couldn't fix it and nor could I :( as it was the water sensor which needed replacing. So the repairman came out late yesterday and did the deed. Didn't take long and he said it was common for these sensors to corode. Considering my machine is well over 10 years old and this is the first repair I've had, it's done all right. The repairman told me I have many more years of life in it too as all the bearings etc looked in great nick. Phew!
I need about another couple of hours to finish this weeding then I'll be on top of it for summer. Can't believe how much quicker it is to whizz round the garden now - am soooo glad I kept it up over winter. Have a few shrubs I want to get rid of so MrK will need his chainsaw. Have also decided the water feature we planned for one corner is a no-go now we are having grandchildren so will need to rethink what we can do there.
Haven't picked my needles up for over a week!!! Must get back into it but really want to be outside!
Happy knitting :)

Morning Everyone.
Misty grey clouds here. not fog but looks like it might rain possibly.
The kids will love going shopping Carole. Need updates picks of the blanket..
I must print out the pattern.
Kiwimade that's pretty good re the washing machine eh. Mine is 16-17 yrs old and I had to have the water level thingee replaced last year. It kept over flowing. That's the only repair Ive ever had to do with it. Its not electronic, I got a Simpson one which has dials so MrP would be able to use it should I not be there to hold his hand lol

Im trying to juggle figures in my head as to how I can get more wool from Deramores, as well as getting some of the verigated from on here. Going to ask them if I can have a mixed pack. Don't think I want 10 of the same colour.

Have a good day everyone

wooop woop lol, finished the weeding! Instead of the usual 10 day big spring clean up, it took me (ok, us lol) four full on mornings. Am quite chuffed. Now for a shower, lunch and maybe some knitting.

Well done Kiwimade.. You deserve to put your feet up now. A new project for Maddie?
Ive managed to vac the lounge dining room and Kitchen. Slowly strengthening my back again.
Ive been printing out free patterns and have put them in a clear file.

Been checking out wool. TM is definatly the cheapest place to get verigated acrylic. but Im hoping to get more wool from deramores, I need more for my blanket. So Im sure Ill be able to make up a $100 order.

Is it dinner time yet? I have a mutton roast in the crockpot and its smelling devine lol

yep, there is always that carole, teach them it's a 'no-go' area of Nana's garden. Will have to mull it over for a bit as I really love the sound of water in a garden.
left over cottage pie for our dinner tonight so I don't have to cook lol.

Yup I remember mum used to get very frustrated when cousins and other peoples kids came to visit.
We were taught not to touch, and knew not to touch. But the others never learnt like we did. so in the end she had to kidproof the house, from the other's kids.
Must have rubbed off on me cos Both our cats Knew/know not to touch when I told them not to touch.
Of course along with being frustrated with the other kids, she should have also felt proud that if went to other peoples places we didn't touch their stuff either.

well it's been quite a grandkid day, first keegan and Deanna, they played so well and I took them shopping and they looked with their eyes and not their fingers, took keegan home about 2pm and brought Ella back she stayed for dinner , Deanna went home about 4pm. we had roast lamb spuds and veggies, well she ate her meat and spuds and told MrT she was full. I said we had pudding well she did a juggle on her chair and found more room for that, ate 90% and wanted custard so another juggle and more room arrived. poppa took her home at 6 now I can have a break, NO kids tomorrow.

morning :) We were brought up the same way popeye, heaven help us (our backsides that was lol) if we misbehaved while out with mum.
Off to waikato Hosp with Dad today for another appointment.
Raining at long last here too, the ground was soo dry, we could use the rain. Am glad I (we) got the weeding done over the past few days.
So I should be able to get some knitting done. A few weeks ago I started another throw for our daughter for Christmas. I've almost finished the first strip (one of two) so now I can get back into it. I've left my crocheting hooks in Whanganui (grrrrr) so the owl blanket is on hold for now which is probably a good thing. I hate having too many things on the go at once. I like to start something and finish it.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Woah wild and wooly, very windy, no rain tho.. Even the Bob cat took one look out the door and turned around and went back to bed lol. Warm tho.

Last night I had a go at the 10 stitch blanket but Im stuck. Im not sure what Im meant to do next. Pic
http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/287441518.jpg
if anyone can help will be much appreciated.

AND... lol I did some row crocheting after watching You tube. And I can do it yay.
http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/287441560.jpg
I think my problem was I would go between the stitches not through the top.

It does take a little more concentration for me tho. but Im sure that will improve.
Quiet day here.. as we have a big one tomorrow

Have fun everyone

popeye333 - 2013-10-09 08:30:00

popeye, I think now on the ten-stitch blanket, you work another corner, so that you can then come back along the edge that you've just completed.

Well done on the crochet rows, I know what you mean - I usually go between the stitches, but when I'm working in rows it is easier to work into the bottom of the trebles, well not easier but it seems to work out more easily.

Not sure what we are doing today, might go to "stitch and bitch" or his nibbs might have other plans. Yesterday I managed to attach the stiffening for the heading on the next curtain, marked the pleats, and did the first stitching of the pleats and the hem. Now I have to join the pleats and actually form them, then I can iron and hang the curtain. Actually although it sounds as though I've done brilliantly, I've probably still got the worst bit to do.

Cool here and windy but I think the sun will show it's face eventually.

Happy knitting everyone.

Thanks Kuaka and Carole.. got some help from FB too and If Id looked at your picture Carole Id have noticed what you had done.
Wonder why they didn't say that in the pattern...

Im thinking of doing one like GMS. with rows of verigated and others of plain colours. It really looked lovely.

I will probably end up at spotlight tomorrow. but I also have wool on my watchlist, the verigated. And I need to get more wool for my first blanket from deramores so Ill get something to match the verigated too.

So much wool soo little time.

And I have ideas of what I want to crochet now too, now that I can do rows instead of rounds.

Terrible terrible Hobbies we have lot

Hi all,
Been house painting for Habitat but it rained today so came home early and went to Skeinz to use the voucher I got on Grab One - not that I need more wool at the moment but didn't want to forget to use the voucher as it gave me $40 of wool for $20, now have wool for another 10 stitch although I have 2 on the go already but couldn't resist the wool and will make it for a sister
for Christmas.

Seems like you have been busy with little ones Carole - I love having small ones to look after but also love that they go home again and not every day.

Back to the painting tomorrow so hope the weather is good as would like to get it finished and not drag on too long.
Will be knitting and putting up my feet this evening as haven't had a good long knit for quite a while now it seems.
Happy knitting to you all

That's a nice thing to do jayemtoo.. re the painting.

I don't really need more wool but by the end of the week I will have either brought in spotlight or off here as well as putting in an order from Deramores.

Can anyone tell how much wool they have used to make a decent size 10 stitch blanket? Giving size and amount.. TIA

Have a nice relax jayemtoo
