What a good idea Elliehen .My partner who managers a Hosp/ Rest Home down here in Southland has just left with 2 other drivers with a van load of water for several of the Homes up in CHCH.It is becoming a worry as bottled waters in short supply both here and Dunedin.Such a huge impact for all up there.

I am so impressed with the calm orderly way that Bob Parker and other officials are managing this crisis....and the waves that its creating as more and more areas of concern emerge.

d, I thought we were supposed to give cash?

They are taking it to Oceania Homes that are all under the same umbrella as each other.Yesterday 2 homes were closed due to damage and residents relocated plus 3 vans from Nelson came collected and returned with residents to Nelson. They awaited instruction from Head office and of course have emergency procedure to aid each other .DHBs are also flying/ transferring any necessary patients...any empty bed is to be filled. As I said above sadly this impacts on such a wide community esp those who cannot help themselves eg disabled ,children and the elderly.

Violent aftershocks still happening here - I just want it to stop!!!
And yet I know my ordeal is so trivial compared to many here ... so so sad.

I meant to ask Winnie... do you have car? and is it stuck in the city or do you have transport. Such a horrible time for you all. I was talking to 510 tonight and I wonder because Charlie is without power just how much of the inner city damage she has seen. I really feel so useless up here in Auckland carrying on life as normal... although I have to admit to grizzling less about inconsequential things... but on the other hand a very much out of character... "Just shut the F up" nearly emerged in the hungry teens & Bran muffin threads (advice from people not qualified to give it as far as I am concerned) so I am restricting myself to this one where I can be my pink fluffy self. My heart just aches at all the news on TV and I keep trying to find ways of helping.... which apart from donating money and keeping in touch with Jo by txt theres not alot else I can do. She said she does appreciate knowing we are thinking of her so maybe if we can all keep in touch that way with her.. if you need her mobile email me.. and if you don't have my email its user name at the huggie place.

Take Care one and all and hug your family tight tonight.... and tommorrow .... and the next day....

just arrived back from chch, and water is going to be one of the main things, if anyone is going down take as much bottled water as possible. my heart goes out to everyone, when those rock in roll moments come its the noises of the buildings that freak one out!! we were queing for petrol for ages - very little petrol available and huge ques for the supermarkets - some now have secruity guards to stop the surging in to those that are open. it really is dreadfull, and cyber hugs for all those going through it all.

I managed to txt and get through to charlie by phone, she really needs our hugs, she is in one of the worst hit areas again, especially with the liqiudifaction roads are almost impassable there and her aftershocks can be guaranteed to be much worse than people in the west which isnt so hard hit.

Quick update from me - I'm flying up to Nelson tonight for a few days rest & will catch the bus over to Golden Bay tomorrow. Hopefully a break from here will help me, mind, body & soul.
I have no idea what will happen long term ... I feel so stupid now but I hadn't got around to organising contents insurance. Hindsight is a great thing. I just keep focusing on the fact that I'm safe.

a heartening moment this morning when taking the kids into school. They have a mufti day to raise money for people in Chch. Without fail, they all were so caught up in being able to help, were willing emptying out money boxes and generously gathering every coin they could ... bless them, they understand what a huge tragedy this is for not just chch but all of NZ stands right there with them in spirit, and with as practical help as we can.

Thinking of you all in Chch - I have no idea what it must be like. Just so difficult to know what to do, other than donate money - you feel like you should be doing something, anything.

Stay safe everyone.

the community spirit is wonderful down there, one of the chaps in the office was showing me photos of his place with the liqiudfaction inside and cars are buried so got a lift to work, he was on the avonhead side and said a group of uni students were going up the road and clearing peoples driveways and entrances so they could get out of their homes, that stuff is like snot all over the city there were a lot of mothers and babies on the flight out we were on last night and probably the best place for them to be, was gobsmacked at the volenteers at the airport in auckland, nothing like that in chch they are all on the streets. again hugs bob parker is doing an amazing job and is very aware of the suburbs - there will be heartbreaking stories to come out from there as well.

Nelson is very healing Winnie - it almost seems surreal and I do feel better although I can't turn the TV off or let go of my cellphone and I need to home soon. When I first arrived I felt quite angry with people in the airport who were just looking normal - stupid, particularly as people here can think of little else and are being so kind. Can only look at this thread here because a quick look at the carping unpleasantness of some posters with dietary bees in their bonnets which I usually find mildly exasperating and rather ridiculous makes me fell quite violent.

Rae, pleased to hear that you are going back to Golden Bay, as the saying goes it is very much "listen to yah body" time & one step at a time stuff. You are & have been in my thoughts. Take care of yourself & let others pamper you. My heart goes out to everyone in Christcurch & everyone affected by this tragedy

I just heard from Charlie, the parcel I sent got thru, so she now has a car charger for her cell, so she at least can keep in contact with the outside world. hope calista is fine, hope word gets thru. have a peaceful time in nelson Rae, we are thinking of you all, more footage of what is happening in the burbs is getting through now, so people are starting to see it as it really is, saw the chancellor from a distance its certainly on a lean hope that can be done in a controlled way rarther than going!! - hugs hugs hugs

Thanks my lovely TM family - I will need help, but at the moment just can't think that far ahead. I'm going to go up home to have some decent sleep & recharge myself ... then I'll have the strength to start sorting out the future. I bought some executive B stress formula at the supermarket this morning - hopefully that'll help me get through this.

cookessentials/Pam, I have your e-mail address - do you still have mine?
If you do find any info' re contact details for calista and if you'd like to then pass them on to me I am happy to try to contact her - do you have any idea of which part of Christchurch she lives in?
As elliehen said above "there seems to be a huge variation across the whole area" - that is sooo true and whilst some parts of most (if not all ) of Christchurch's many suburbs have been affected to some extent, it is the eastern suburbs that have been really really hard hit and for many of them it is a case of being hard hit again. :-))
