Great to see this thread still going. I love to read but have little to contribute as my hints are already in here.

Will have to find a way to get my adult children living at home to use up leftover food. If they dont like what is already in the house they just go and buy something they want. They all have their night to cook but the menu planner has not worked for this household. Too much food going into the compost heap or rubbish for my liking

I know this is an old post, but the answer is to have an occasional "fridge night", when whoever is cooking has to make a meal out of what's available in the fridge....... kind of like the chefs' competitions' "magic box". It's a great way to train creative cooks.

Havnt seen this thread for awhile. I'm been on an enforced budget for a little while. Had a whole lot of bills due late January and not much money coming in, I worked out that I could pay them, but i just couldnt spend any money for 2 weeks. So I became very frugal. Groceries were the first thing to go. Managed to live off of what I had in the fridge, freezer and pantry quite happily for 2 weeks. Had some veges in the garden, tomatoes, corn and zucchini. Was amazing what meals I managed to get zucchini into! The only thing I didnt have was milk and i raided my parking money in the car for that. Now a month on i'm finding im having to do it again but for diff reasons. Having to work lots extra hours for 2+ weeks as we are 2 staff down at work and I refuse to go to the supermarket on the weekend when it is super busy. (I could but I cant be bothered with it!) so once again working out what i cant do without - only dog food and milk urgent at the moment. Dog food sorted thanks to mum and sister and I got a lovely meal cooked for me when I went to pick it up and milk I can get today at the foursquare. Added bonus i'll save myself $200 by not going to the supermarket and clean out the freezer a bit more

we're thinking we might try skipping a big grocery shop this fortninght just as an experiment, we will need fruit, vege, milk and cat food. We hve a few vege left in the garden (planted more in the glasshouse today)Trip to the markets next weekend for fruit and vege, and will take a basket (not a trolley) to the supermarket.

Being cheeky pays off. SPARK rang tonight to offer us a deal, $60 cheaper per month than our current providor, and a one off $300account credit. Rang our current providor, matched it!!

Thanks for the reminder - going to try something similar with my powerco who are offering goodies to new customers, not current ones.

????Sorry, bad pun.

2 wins inside a week:
Had a market research outfit ring asking to take part in a discussion group, 2 hours, coffee, cake and $100 cash, accepted, arrived at scheduled time, to be told, so so sorry, we have over recruited, so we don't need you now, heres your $100 anyway!!! 35mins from home to home again, not a bad hourly rate!

Flybuys are offering New World vouchers again, just "bought" $170 worth of NW vouchers - thats 2 weeks groceries for us, whoop whoop.

I'm quite proud of myself. I got 9 plus meals from a couple of ham hocks costing $10.
two meat & vege meals the first night.
Made pea & ham soup, one meal on night two, with 4 portions in the freezer.
Remaining meat went into a vegetable/egg type slice with enough for another couple of dinners ...gave some away.

been ages! budget blown to bits im afraid! $600 at the vet in Aug (expected, and planned for), $1000 for a warrant last week (totally out of the blue, obviously) and more work needed sooner rather than later, so a decision made to purchse another vehicle. Vet again on Monday (unexpected, but can cope with $60). surely, things are on the up!!

I have been following this since it's inception, just thought it needed a bump! I am starting back at work next week, full time, plus studying for one more yr 30 hrs per week. So I have done some baking this week and frozen it, and planted some carrots, and after next week won't be able to bake and garden for a year! Will keep an eye out for any new budget tips!
