I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
2201

well I've finished the wee Waikato rugby jersey and in spite of the colours, am pleased with the way it has knitted up. Even managed to get the stripes to match :). The booties are almost done, just need my friend to drop in some more yellow wool (otherwise I am happy to make them Crusaders boots :P).
Happy knitting :)

morning :) Americas Cup soon so I'll turn the telly on in a minute - a rare thing for us! We never have the TV on before 5.30pm (MrK likes Home and Away lol).
We had some really heavy rain last night - so loud we couldn't hear each other talking.
Think I might do some sewing today for a change and I have a job to apply for.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

The race starts soon.. sock it to them NZ...

Fine here but a cold wind.. My boycat has brought himself in, he doesn't like the cold and being Monday there are huge trucks running around doing rubbish and recycling, and he doesn't like them either.
Lawn boys should be here today, they wont get much grass today that's for sure, but we like them done fortnightly.

Didn't do any knitting on the jumper over the weekend.. Just too sore really.
I did do a little on my blanket strip last night. Ive done 200 rows , another 86 to go.. sucks that it takes two rows to make one basically lol.. But Im going to get it done. Then make some cushions to go with it

Fingers crossed for the job application Kiwimade.

I don't plan on venturing out anywhere today lol

Have a good day everyone

Oh dear, team NZ lost a race to Oracle. Oh well, we are still in front, but we still need to win 6 more races, which should be easier for us than for Oracle who still need to win 10.

Not sure what the day will bring as the morning is half over and we haven't had breakfast yet, but I'm sure I will recover from the shock of losing a race, and will manage to do some knitting or crochet before the day is finished.

Good luck with the job application. Happy knitting everyone.

Fog here again this morning, but I think it will clear quickly, and it's cold again, only 10 deg in the lounge. Brrr! So much for spring. Yesterday it was lovely despite the wind and we sat out on the deck and had our lunch, then I decided to stay there and do some crochet. First off I picked up the wrong size hook and got half way round the edging before I realised why I was struggling, so unpicked that, found the right size hook and started again, three-quarters of the way round I realised I was working with the wrong side facing me, instead of the right side, so unpicked again. Third time I got it right. Sometimes I wonder why I bother. Oh that's right, 'cos I enjoy it (mostly).

Finished the extension to the blanket, it's still not big enough but I don't have enough squares to do another strip, so will make some more in due course. It's going to be an "on-going" project as I will make squares as I get suitable scraps of yarn, and when I have enough made in suitable colours I will do the final "round" of the square and join them into a strip and then join the strip to the blanket.

Good luck at the hospital today carolev - no doubt you will take some knitting with you to do while you're waiting. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning everyone. Good luck at the Hospital Carole, wont be comfy travelling with a full bladder either I imagine.

Ohh Kuaka, what a mission re your crochet.. Must be the time for it, I got the second sleeve done yesterday and did the neck bands. Do you think I could understand how they said to sew it together, I had to read it several times before it sunk in. So now have to sew the sleeves on , do the side seams and add the buttons.
Then Im going to do a toy.. Ive had a long enough break from them.

Have a lovely day everyone

Ha,popeye, I've just realised I actually did that edging four times before I got it right,'cos the first attempt I started off doing half trebles, but only did a few when I realised I should have been doing double crochets, so unpicked it. Some days I think I should just stay in bed!

Finally finished the wee jumper.

Its a 20 inch,, could you wise ladies please tell me what size fits what age baby... I haven't a clue lol

Just when it rains it pours lol.. The tv satilite dish has crapped itself.. So no tvs working at all..
Have got a good deal from sky for a year then once that is up ill stop it and use the new dish on the freeview... Pity we cant get UHF tv here cos then I wouldn't have to do anything.
So no tv till lunchtime Friday... thankfully the racing tomorrow MrP can watch on my lappy.
Ill watch coro on demand if I feel so inclined, otherwise will be transporting the lappy to the bedroom so I can still have contact with the outside world for a wee while before reading lol

meant to add to my post, yesterday I was talking to a lady who suggested when knitting wool you mix it with some acrylic yarn to give strength to the wool. Has anyone ever heard of this? I've never tried it as I worry about shrinkage when washing and the knitting becoming distorted.

The little jersey is lovely Popeye 20" is a 1 - 2 year old size have made that size for niece's little boy for this winter - he is 2 next month and fitted him well this year.
Hope you are feeling better quickly Carole.
Not too windy here yet so will get washing underway asap - which means when I have had another cup of coffee lol.

Morning everyone

The dam tv is working.. But one of the tech guys said it will work when its cool, when the temp heats up something happens on the aerial so we have the sailing on
Will decide what to knit next this morning once I get home from posting parcels.. sending the left over neppe wool from MrPs cardy to my sil, she is buying it from me so that's handy...

Yay for another days work Kiwimade... how long do you think it will be before you hear from the job you applied for the other day?

Wet and dark here but not cold...I wouldnt mind if it gets cold in time to watch Wild at heart this afternoon lol

I know how your feeling Carole I was up 4-5 times last night too... had a good clean out, but I felt sick as well.. Much better this morning, just a wee bit "hung over" from being awake so much

Morning Every one... Wet and Windy here too.. I have my little desk fan on... I cant handle breathing warm air.

Off to the super clinic this morning to see the general surgery team about Mrps belly button... Its been herniated for years but causing him a lot of pain now..
I will be close to spotlight, so who knows what might happen lol.
One things for sure we will be home for our current fave tv show , Wild at Heart..Which is 2-30.

Tv is working again... but as I said to MrP if we cancelled getting skky the aerial would play up again so we will stick to the plan.

Have started a new strip of my blanket so I can take it with me. Gotta have something to do while we wait.

Take care on the roads anyone having to venture out like us.. Thank goodness we have super duper tyres on the car, they might be noisy but they have good tread on them

Have a good day all

popeye333 - 2013-09-12 07:29:00
2227

morning :) Going back to bed sounds like a plan carole lol. Hopefully MrP will be sorted out popeye.
Last night was the first night in months we had no heater on and it's not cold today either - just wild, wet and windy. I'm going into town to buy a replacement gas canister for our camp cooker in case the power goes out. I've got water in the fridge so we can at least make a cuppa. If we have no power, we have no water. I've got baking to do for the freezer so we have something to take with us to Whanganui so might get that started as well. And I need to sew a new bag to carry all my school bits and bobs as the bag I'm using isn't strong enough to take all the picture books I lug around with me.
The wee rugby jersey and boots are finished and in spite of the colours I'm happy with the way they turned out. I'll post some pics on our FB page later.
happy knitting :)

Morning
Despite the weather forecast still telling us we are having gales it actually is quite calm here and just had a shower which I am happy about as garden starting to look a bit dry on it. Not cold here either Kiwimade which is pleasant.
Hope your trip is safe and worthwhile Popeye and you are feeling a lot chirpier today Carole.
Has a "sewing-up" day yesterday which is something I don't really enjoy doing but got all current projects finished except for the buttons so am enjoying seeing them all sitting there. Now started another little bolero for the cousin of the little girls I made the others for. Will get out camera once i have got the buttons.

The dr has ok'd surgery for his belly button,, and he will most likely lose it totally... I like his belly button lol always have. but if that's one thing we can take off the pain list that's all that matters.

I didn't even get time to get my needles out lol

The TV is still working... Im sure tho that if we cancelled getting sky it would play up lol

Gawd - I feel sick just thinking about that. I fainted when I had my ears pierced and then again when my daughter had hers done. I actually had one ear pierced and then fainted and my aunty who was with me insisted they did the other ear while I was out for the count as she reckoned I wouldn't have it done once I'd come to! I wouldn't have either.

Have to admit I saw my SIL get her ears pierced and they didn't numb them at all... I couldnt believe it, but she sat there quite happily.

I wont mention the piercings and chain to MrP he would say go on then lets do it lol hes a rat bag like that

morning ladies :) I have two holes in one ear and one in the other and daughter has around five in each ear and one in her lip and a tattoo. She looks 'goth' but isn't and people are so surprised by how polite and respectful she is lol. She loves breaking down stereotyping!
What a wet day we had yesterday, it rained all day and half the night. I think it's going to clear a bit today.
Housework, MrK to the doctor, America's Cup racing are on the agenda today.
I couldn't resist crocheting an owl from that pattern you sent me popeye and it's quite simple. Not happy with the yarn I used though as it's quite 'hard' acryclic but it's ok to practice with and get the gist of the pattern. Now I have a 'feel' for it I'll sort out some nicer colours and wool.
Happy knitting :)

Morning Everyone...
I have both my ears pierced twice. Id been planning the second for ages, as a little bit of rebalion, I was carrying my original studs around from when I first had them done. Had time to kill oneday so went and did it lol Very seldom I change my earings tho and I have oodles. Got the belly button pierced when I was 39ish I think, was away for the weekend and just went and did it. happened soo fast I didn't even get to see it happen.
Mum hated it lol... Sometimes wish I had got a tattoo then, but other days I don't like them either. And now I don't have the option lol
Its fine here so far, should strip the bed, Ill give it an hour to see what its going to do out there.
The tv is still working.. The sky man will be here between 10 and noon. Was looking at the tv guide, when did the Jones channel come about, its like a trip back to my childhood lol

MrP happy he can see the racing before the man arrives.

Best get some work done while he is out of my way lol

Have a good day everyone

Team NZ 6, the cheats still -1. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, but the signs are good and getting better!

Beautiful day here, going for a walk along the beach soon, then I will probably go and get some groceries and I might even clean some windows afterwards. Going to try to finish off a couple of projects that have sat around for a while (that means sewing up - which I hate)

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2013-09-13 10:35:00

I should hire myself out as someone to sew up garments.. It doesn't worry me lol.

The sky man has been and set it up./ Also did something for us that we were told couldn't happen and that is we can still watch freeview in the bedrooms as well as having sky in the lounge. we were told it wasn't possible by more than one shop and technician.
And there was nothing wrong with the aerial...

Have done both beds linens and they are drying our in the sun and gentle breeze.. Done litter box, dishes, vaccd and put all the stuff back on the tv cabinate as well as being the runner to the bedrooms to check whats working and what wasn't.
I have to say my poor back is suffering big time. From being on my feet too long. and the arms are complaining from hanging the washing out.
I should have accepted the help the dr offered a while back.

So now time to sit and try and figure out what the heck to watch lol

morning ladies :) am really glad I got all that washing done yesterday, it's been pouring down. Got lots of baking to do today to pop into the freezer for our trip to Whanganui. Only 10 days till due date!! Thought it was two weeks lol but husband pointed out todays date lol. Daughter phoned and she's having major braxton hicks contractions so getting really excited here. She's well organised and has her bag packed.
Have another day teaching booked in next week so life is looking up.
Gave my friend the wee jersey and booties and she was thrilled lol. Her teenage son saw the booties and called them 'gangsta' lol.
Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-09-14 08:15:00
2243

Exciting stuff alright kiwimade - we had torrential rain last night about 9.30 for almost an hour - tv had no signal, and this morning it is cooler and the weak sun has already gone into hiding. I didn't get as far as cleaning windows yesterday, I suddenly had a light-bulb moment and thought it would be a waste of time with rain forecast. (any excuse eh?)

I've just tried on the wretched tunic I've been working on since forever, and I think it will fit it I just do a bit more on the back so that it matches the front, so with that in mind, I will complete the other side of the v-neck front, then extend the back, then all I have to do is the collar and armhole bands, and I should be able to wear it in about 2015. I still have another winter top to sew up which I knitted autumn last year.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning everyone. What a difference a day makes.. Windy and wet here again.. I too am pleased I got the washing done yesterday, two beds and all lol
Carole I love the colours in your latest dress, Bright and cheerfull.

Woohoo Kiwimade, do you think Maddy will arrive early.? nice of you to take cooking with you too..

Im going to sound like a grumbling old woman but man my back was sore this morning. Seemed to take forever for the painkillers to kick in. Guess that will teach me for not spreading jobs out. Drs told me about 3 yrs ago that I had the back of a 65 yr old, so my back is 20 yrs older than me, This morning it felt like it was 100 lol... Will top up the meds again shortly. The bathroom can wait till tomorrow.
So Im going to have a day of tripping down memory lane with the Jones sky tv channel.. and all the rest lol.

Stay cosy today everyone

popeye, I always try to take a break after doing a really physical job, before doing another physical job, sometimes the break might only be half an hour, but if it's really physical I might take a break of two or three days.

Had a letter from WINZ yesterday saying that as I had told them that I had worked in the UK I must by law apply for a UK pension (I hadn't mentioned it at all so don't know where they got that idea from, other than my UK birth certificate so it was an assumption on their part). The form runs to over 20 pages, and then there were several declarations and bank payment forms etc, they wanted dates of the places I worked, my staff number etc. It was nearly 50 years ago. I have no idea. I only worked for 2 years, I left school at 17, got married at 19 and came to NZ when I was 23. I phoned them and told them I wouldn't qualify for a UK pension, but they said I have to apply so that the UK can advise WINZ that I don't qualify. What a waste of time and effort. If I do get a pension it will probably be about 50p a week which will come off my NZ super.

kuaka - 2013-09-14 09:04:00

they never ask me for any thing from Uk guess I was lucky. nice day here so far but cold.

carolev - 2013-09-14 09:47:00
2247

I do that Kuaka... I think the clincher yesterday was the more than an hour running to and from the bedrooms to tell the sky man if they were working, to speed his time up a bit.
Ive become MrP really, cant stand long cos of my back. Cant sit long cos of my tailbone, and laying too long hurts the hips.. what a mess lol.

Im happy to be alive tho and that's what matters

Ohh what a nuisance applying for the UK pension... Stupid that you have to do it so they can say no lol... Applying for ours here was stupid to me, they had all our details cos of being on a benefit for so long.. They work in the same office as winz but have different systems lol... Mind you it was also within a couple of months of Mum dying too so the head was on overtime.

popeye333 - 2013-09-14 10:06:00
2248

quite agree popeye, I've been included in hubby's super for years, but suddenly 'cos I turn 65 I had to apply and provide all the details which I'd provided years ago. Just seems plain stupid to me. They've been paying me for years then suddenly they need me to prove that I am who I say I am. Now this lot from the UK - grrrrrrr. They also wanted details of my divorce, dates etc - I have no idea, (I should have remembered, it was quite a momentous occasion) and they can't check with him 'cos he died about 3 years later.

My sister deserves a medal for all the forms she had to fill in when Mum was alive. I don't know how she coped with it all.

kuaka - 2013-09-14 10:23:00

Lol... we have no trouble remembering MrPs divorce date cos I work out our anniversary date from his divorce date. 16th august sticks in my head better than the 30th does.
