I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
2101

Well I was lucky enough to get a teal and black jumper from the oppy... Its not an easy one to undo by any means. But Ive spent 4 hours undoing what I can. I have the bottom ribbing to try and undo. I will have enough to use as a contrast in a multi colour jumper.
Im a stubborn and determined Taurean so I wouldn't let it get the better of me, till I had enough wool.
It had some grotty marks on it. And the oppy is having a $1 sale on all the winter clothes. Summer ones will be out next week. So when the lady behind the counter saw the marks she said I could have it for 50 cents, as it shouldn't have been hanging in the shop inn the condition it was... Ill weigh what I get out of it , to see what a bargain I got.. later

I have 155 grams so far.. Will probably reach 200 grams.. for 50 cents that aint bad for pure wool.

morning :) Not going far today, will check up on my sister and do a few things around the house for her as she can't do any lifting for a while. That pretty much sums up my day lol.
Had a wonderful time in the classroom yesterday, more great kids and a pleasure to teach. There are parents out there who should be very proud of their kids.
Lawns need mowing again, looks like I'm into the weekly mow now so need a fine-ish windy-but-not-too-windy day to dry out the grass.
Ducks are gone except for a drake and MrK has 'plans' for him.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone... Sun is out here too. no wind.. Need the grass to dry before I do any weeding...
Glad you had a good day yesterday Kiwimade... Nice when you get a good group of kids eh. I was in a class that had two of us who were interested in learning when we were at school. I used to get annoyed at the rest of the class being a pain in the butt.
Good news being legal again Carole, we are regoed, have to do the warrant next week, first since we got this car, Im hoping it flies through. Have a credit at the garage so it should be covered.

I got 202 grams of wool from the jumper. It had black in it as well and was carried across in places so it wasn't easy to undo by any means. And the way they sewed it up was weird.. nothing orderly in their stitching lol

I remembered this morning that the secondhand clothes place has a sale, I will go have a look for yellow and blue this time.

Have a good day everyone

pea souper here this morning. Planning to go to the "stitch & bitch" group or "knit & natter" as a friend of mine in the UK calls it (sounds much more genteel and friendly) other than that, no plans for the day. Don't think I will be doing any gardening for a few weeks, then I will really have to get stuck in and get the mess tidied up - we don't have what I call a "real" garden, just pockets of garden on different levels on the steep section. Mostly bush.

Sounds like a lot of effort popeye for 202 grams of wool - I know 50cents is cheap, but I always find it very frustrating unpicking the stitching that someone else has done, I've come across some weird methods of sewing something up too, and halfway through have wondered whether it was worth it.

I'm going to start on a pair of fingerless gloves to take with me this morning, only because it's just straight garter stitch and I can do it without having to concentrate, then it's back to the tunic now that I've finished the baby stuff I wanted to get out of the way (I have just finished a parcel for B4B which I will post today).

Have a great day ladies, and happy knitting.

It is a lot of time Kuaka, but Id only be knitting anyway lol... I got a couple more jumpers this morning.. well one was a kids vest. Have it just about all done. It was sewn up in an easy way. The vest that is.

The one from yesterday, I don't know who taught them how to sew up but what a mess lol... Im still after the blue and yellow. Got maroon, brown and red this morning. All $1 each as both the oppy and the secondhand place have a $1 sale.
Ive always been a methodical person and not much fazes me. Im the one everyone brings their tangled up chains etc too, to be undone. I don't let things beat me lol

Hope you have a good time at the Knit and Natter, I prefer that name too lol

Morning Ladies.

Ouchies Carole, did you cool the burn and wrap it in glad wrap/ I have some mebo cream from the chemist.. it aint cheap. But its what the hospitals use on burns. It stops it stinging almost instantly and you use it for a few days . it keeps it moist so it wont dry out and feel worse.

Have seen the pics on fb now.. Wicked hat lol

No fog here today. Its raining lightly

MrP is feeling much better and wants to come shopping to show off his jacket lol... he doesn't want to get it wet tho lol... I said don't worry it wont melt lol

Im going to sort out something to knit later today... I miss it lol

Have a good day everyone

morning ladies :) that's no good carole.
I've been commissioned to knit a Waikato rugby jersey, booties and beanie for a new baby. My friend was in fits of laughter asking me knowing I am such a staunch Crusader fan but seeing as it is for a new baby, I will bite the bullet and put yellow *arrggggggg lol* amongst the red and black.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone..
Not good your unwell again Carole, been doing too much lately?

Lol Kiwimade, re the Waikato colours.. Mum and I knitted a onesie and beanie in Rasta colours years ago.

Cold here today. Which is ok I "ordered" it so MrP could be wearing his cardy for our anniversary. I can tell you that 22 yrs ago today it wasn't cold. Nice and sunny in Hamilton. We got married at the registry office and went to the lake for a picnic. Got back in the cars to leave and it was hosing down by the time we got to the gates of the lake lol

We are going to brave the weather to go get a daffodil day bear and then go to Pukekohe for a few things and bring some kfc home for tea.

Have a good day everyone

I'll second that popeye - happy anniverHsary. Cold here, winter's back - I don't like it much, especially when my sister phones from the UK and says it's so hot there they don't know what to do to keep cool!!!! Got the heat pump on 'cos I don't have any kindling, and the firewood is a bit damp at the bottom of the pile. Had a nice day yesterday with an unexpected visit from friends we haven't seen for about 5 years, and today I think we are probably just going to get lotto tickets, check the mail and get a few groceries. Then I might knit for a change!

Thank you Kiwimade and Kuaka,.. we have had a nice morning. managed to get a "Lucy" bear from the cancer society stall in town.
Then went to Pukekohe for a few things. Found an Asian supermarket that we will be frequenting. I got 10 kilos agria potatoes, $5-99. 2 kilos of nz oragnges $1-99. a kilo of nice small Kumara $1-99 and two lettuces for $1-49. I couldn't believe how cheap their meat is too.
Then did 3 op shops. Had brunch at the bakery and got KFC for tea. Havent had in in ages.. lol

Theres a drought in baby patterns in op shops... I managed to get one from 3 shops in Puke and one last week from 3 shops..

Happy knitting, Ill get to my needles shortly

Morning everyone..

Your most welcome Kiwimade... Gotta have something for your first photo so nana can brag lol

Tis a bit nippy here too Carole... My aim is to be able to get a table set up in my office so I can have my sewing machines set up. I miss sewing.

Well some miserable poop didn't pay the power this month lol.. our side of town lost it from about 8-15pm till 6-30 this morning.. Its hard sleeping when its soo dark lol.. Sounds like the other side only lost for an hour or so.

I read with one of my bendy lights I used to use when cross stitching clipped to my e-reader.. was good actually lol.

I plan to spend some time in the office today.. It needs a general clean up.

Then Ill play with my marbles lol.. I got more yesterday and I like them artistically sorted in the huge jar I keep them in.. lol..

Have a good day everyone

morning ladies :) It's a gorgeous day here too, not quite a frost but chilly. Still the suns out and that's a start! Going to mow lawns and then plan for a couple of days teaching I have booked in for next week. Two different classes and levels :). My friend hasn't dropped the wool off yet for the baby's set so I'll find something small(ish) to knit or sew to tide me over. Had to knit MrK a beanie last night as The Furry One chewed his beanie to bits - he wasn't quick enough to grab it back and of course The Furry One has painted on ears when it comes to things like that!
Happy knitting :)

Hello lovelies, I haven't read back sorry, just popped in to say hi. Hope everyone is well and getting lots of knitting done.
I have had bronchitis for over 3 weeks, and went back to dr yesterday to find I'm now on the verge of pneumonia, so have some different antibiotics. Will be having a very quiet weekend, even knitting is tiring but can do a few rows now and again.
Have a safe, productive, and happy weekend xo

Wow you take care Maible. Bronchitis is bad enough let alone pneumonia. rest up and get well.

Have been pottering in the office and while I was emptying the wall unit I came across my book of knitting stitches. It had been hiding from me.. Always handy to have around when you want to do something different.

Tis chilly but a glorious day out there today.. if you can handle the wind.

Found out the transformer at the end of the side road we live on blew and they let it burn out.. Strange I didn't hear a fire siren at all when the power went out. I figured it would be something like that. and not bad with it taking 10 hours to be put right.
Right a wee play on here then I shall get back to my knitting, haven't done much at all this week.

Have a fab day everyone

get well soon sounds like I was last winter

carolev - 2013-08-31 15:54:00
2132

maible - that's no good, I hope the new meds get you back to full health in super-quick time. My other half has had pneumonia numerous times and it's no fun. I remember having a house call from the doc one time years ago when hubby had been in bed for nearly a week refusing medical intervention, and I wasn't well. Doc announced that hubby had double pneumonia and should be in hospital (but hubby refused to go) and I asked him to check me as I couldn't stop coughing and felt lousy, and he announced "you're alright, you've only got bronchitus!" When we got the bill he charged us for two house calls - thought it was a bit off as he was there already visiting hubby. Oh well. We both lived so I suppose that's the main thing.

As for the knitting, I had another go at that flipping tunic last night, and after about 10 rows put it away again. Three times I managed to do moss stitch across the cable, so had to unpick it. Grrrr!

Morning everyone..

Its a glorious day out there.. Spring time now lol

Hope you are feeling better Maible and Carole.

I gave in and took a sleepy pill last night. Two ruined nights sleep in a row meant my eyeballs were somewhat hanging out of their sockets lol... Took them about 20 mins before I stopped reading. Put the light out and I reckon I was asleep in less than a minute.
So I feel more refreshed today.

I finished the back of the wee jumper yesterday so will start the front at some stage later.
Going to see if I have another crate in the shed and can finished emptying the wall unit..

Have a good day everyone...

Freezing cold here this morning, overcast and quite windy - so much for the first of spring, it's one of the coldest mornings we've had all winter. Got the heat pump going as we're almost out of firewood and we are right out of kindling. Will have to scavange around the section for kindling today. There's plenty lying about in the bush areas. Knitted a baby beanie yesterday for B4B (start of my September parcel) and will probably do another today, along with (hopefully) some more of the wretched tunic for myself - I'm beginning to hate the thing even though I like the pattern. I have a horrible feeling that it will be too tight, but I will squeeze into it, but because it's not going to be wide enough it will take up some of the length and won't be long enough either. Might have to find someone short and skinny to give it to.

Hope you're feeling better this morning carolev and maible.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone... Have a good day at work Kiwimade...
Ouchies Carole, and that's for the pocket.... cos that will hurt as much as the work done on the tooth.
Im glad mine were bad before I had my heart valve replaced. It meant I had to have them all out. Cos the fastest way to get bacteria to your heart is through bad or broken teeth.
I have the best smile Ive ever had and haven't come across anything I cant eat.. Will say tho they are getting a little blunt on the side I eat on the most.

Have to post parcels this morning. Then Im going to go back into the office and empty the top of the wall unit.
Didn't get much knitting done at all yesterday...

Clear as a bell out there this morning. Chilly tho

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2013-09-02 08:19:00

Well it seems to be a bit warmer here today (although that could be because I slept in thinking it was Sunday not Monday - just as well I don't have to go to work eh?) but we had a very heavy shower just before I got up. It's lovely and sunny now, but still a bit windy and of course everything is wet, so I doubt I'll be tackling any gardening or lawn mowing today - might surprise us both and do some housework. He'll probably ask if we're expecting visitors - cheek!

I've just checked and I have 25 rows to do on the side of the front up to the shoulder shaping, then I only have to complete the other side to match (from the low vee neck that is), then do the armhole bands (they are cable) and the collar and it's all finished. No wonder I couldn't get my head around the shaping at first, I've just looked and the armhole shaping is cast off 4 stitches, dec 1 on next row, then cast off 2 on next row, then dec 1 next row, miss a row and then dec 1 on next 3 rows, at the same time I had already decreased on the neck edge on every alternate row until I'd done 8 decreasings and then on the 4th row 15 times, and cables every 6 rows. My head hurt just thinking about it, but it's all on paper now, with ticks for the rows I've done. When I go back to do the second side I put a line through the ticks in a different colour pen so I can see exactly where I'm up to. Might just get the first side finished today.

Hope everyone is on the mend and has a lovely day. It does feel a bit more like spring than it did yesterday.

kuaka - 2013-09-02 10:35:00
2142

Well I have finally got to the shoulder shaping on one side of the v-neck front, and now find that the front is longer than the back from the armhole to the shoulder - grrrrrrrrrr! So now I will have to unpick the cast off shoulders on the back, knit a few more rows and then re-do the shoulder shaping. I'm going to add it to the back as I'm confident that I have followed the shaping at the front exactly to the pattern - then I only have to do the other side of the front from the v-neck upwards, do the arm bands and the collar and then destroy the pattern rather than knit another one in a different yarn. Actually, no, if I like it when it's finished, and if it fits, I just might be tempted to make another. This was supposed to be a "trial run".

kuaka - 2013-09-02 16:33:00
2143

If it was me Kuaka Id do the other side of the front. Then you will feel more sure about adding rows to the back.
Kudos for keeping at it tho.
Im doing a simple little pattern on the front of this wee jumper , ages since I did a pattern on anything. 12 rows to the pattern. but not many stitches.

Maybe you're right popeye. I'll give it further thought. I'm thinking I might sew the other side seam up as far as the armhole and see if the thing fits, and if it doesn't the cat can use it as a blanket. (Have you considered that just maybe I've had a gutsful of it?)

kuaka - 2013-09-02 16:59:00
2145

Yupp lol... I have a lot of patience but I think even that would have pushed me to the max.
It might end up being one of those things that you finish but cos your not happy with it , wont end up wearing it.
I know if Im not happy with something, it gets binned.

lol kuaka you have far more patience than me. Maybe stitch it into a cat blanket as it sounds like the cat has already 'bagsed' it :P (well that would be my excuse anyway lol).
Had a lovely day with the littlies today, tomorrow Y2 students :). I forget how tired I can be after a day in the classroom - when I was working full time I was sound asleep on the couch by 6.00pm!
