Heh, i'm not that lucky to get a 12/6 - as for the H class cancels that I thought were of fiscal use only were the Christchurch and New Plymouth ones as I've not seen them used on anything other than revenue stamps. I have a 3 pound longtype with New Plymouth H Class cancel but no embossing. Were they used to cancel normal postage? robertlyon777 - 2010-01-10 08:57:00 |

Best to store stamps in quality stock books with acid free pages and store the books upright to allow a little bit of air flow through the stockbook. As for soaking stamps off first day covers it is ok with modern ones but would be madness with old ones. robertlyon777 - 2010-01-10 09:03:00 |

Depends on the age of the stamps and if there is anything printed on the tabs. In the past tabs were good as the hinge could be on the tab rather than the stamp. robertlyon777 - 2010-01-10 09:06:00 |

It is perfectly OK to soak your stamps off Firstday covers. Many collectors do especially with the later decimal issues due to the roller cancels on normal mail. rebel58 - 2010-01-10 09:41:00 |

2056 | I have inherited several stamp albums and many first-day-covers, and have no interest in them. Where in the general Wellington province can I get them evaluated, and not get ripped off? rovertniloc - 2010-01-10 12:09:00 |

2059 | Where to get valuation of Chinese Stamps? I have a "The Stamps Of The People's Republic Of China Special And Commemorative Stamp - Album 1985" and want to get a valuation done before considering selling the album. All are mint stamps. Only two of the stamps are absent. I am loathe to take it to a "Stamp Shop" in fear they will undervalue the album in the hope of me selling it to them for a low price. I am in Christchurch. Thanks! muzzo - 2010-01-10 13:13:00 |

2061 | Hi there, i have just been given 1000s of stamps from all over the world and times etc how do i go about getting them valued as apparently there are some very rare ones in my collections. thanks skyline_guy_r34 - 2010-01-10 15:00:00 |
2062 | muzzo wrote: You have said that you want a valuation on the stamps so go to a Stamp dealer and get one, actually get two valuations and split the difference. You cant get ripped off on a valuation ,only if you sell and are not happy with the outcome.Stamp Dealers have their fingers on the pulse so to speak and are very approachable in most cases. There are Two dealers in Christchurch within 5 mins walking of each other.Let your fingers do the walking ,Google and the yellow pages are your friends. rebel58 - 2010-01-10 15:32:00 |

2067 | I have this stamp here... But it doesnt have official stamped on it. Just a normal NZ stamping. Would it be worth the same sort of money as the one i showed? Thanks skyline_guy_r34 - 2010-01-10 20:28:00 |

It looks to be a C class cancel but I didn't think they were being used as early as 1882. It could have been used at a later date (cancelled to order) but hard to tell with year missing from cancellation. robertlyon777 - 2010-01-13 16:19:00 |

2084 | I brought many years ago (15) stamps that were sealed with foam and plastic seal from a book shop. They are still unopened and about 100 stamps in the packet. Should I open them to let the air in. bjsim - 2010-01-15 20:35:00 |

2090 | Hi Donald thanks for the reply. I have ten packets of stamps from Europe. 50 to 400 per pack. I brought these while I was living in Europe. I have collected stamps since I was 10. For example a pack of 300 Nederland stamps have the price on for f26.25. They look like they have been vacuum packed and appear to be in excellent condition. The question is do I leave them as they are and open them when I have the time to start up again. When I have the time to start up again. bjsim - 2010-01-18 07:39:00 |

2097 | This has probably been asked but it means trawling through hundreds of posts so here goes again... these Kiwi Stamps ... are these going to be worth collecting or not since there is no value and NZ Post say the postage value is that of the day they are used on. bdreid10 - 2010-01-23 09:02:00 |

2099 | I thought as much but it pays to check just in case. Am starting to think about getting more into checking out the stamps I have eg watermarks, perforations etc. and noticed way back towards before page 20 (yes I do get bored and start reading the older posts now and then) you can use lighter fluid to check the water marks (hopefully we still have some) or would it be worth buying something that you can use to view the watermark? There was something mentioned back there but I can't find it again :S bdreid10 - 2010-01-23 12:07:00 |
