By the way when I used my spotlight voucher I saw a pack of coloured cotton I had bid on. I stopped at $20 on TM but it was only $13 on special. I had a close look at it and decided I did not want it. Sometimes it is hard to tell from a photo isn't it?

makerealbany, I often have three or four quilts on the go .... last year I made three for Christmas and already this year I have finished two, and have four completed quilt tops as well as the two I want to finish for Christmas this year. I always get inspired and want to start a new project which means things are left unfinished.

well hello there ladies! Long time no chat. Thanks for bidding, Makerealbany, and for reminding me y'all are here. I was probably in Pahiatua last time I left a msg. We moved to Palmy Nth end of 2007 and I had to start working again to pay the mortgage on our lovely new home - so life's been busy busy busy. I tried reading up on wots been going on here but 2053 messages might take a while! :) Seems you've all been crafting away madly tho. Every now and then I get to have a little play with the clay, little spurt of knitting, still try to make my own birthday cards - usually on the day they're supposed to be with the recipient! Mainly I'm trying to get listing again and clear some of the junk out of the house. I'm too scared to start on the kids rooms yet.;)

So good to hear from you bll. I was browsing the thread and wondered about you so hit your name and voila. I have teenage granddaughters that are jewellery mad and xmas is coming. I wamt some red, blue and green koru buttons a bit bigger than shirt buttons. I always say I will get listing but have not yet. Ha ha. Too busy. Thought you might have moved. Grizzly has but is still down south. Smartgirl is still in hamilton and I am still in Auckland. Those girls are very busy as are the rest of us.

Hi barbrose. What a clever girl you are with all those quilts. Years ago my Nanna used to quilt but I was only 6 or 7 but I remember all the material of different colours. I loved the colours. Still love colour.

barbrose. What is a jelly roll? Found my cutters as well. Progress. ha ha.

makerealbany - 2009-10-11 23:54:00

A jelly roll is fabric that has been cut into 2 in strips - enough for a quilt. You decide how to put it together - well, at least that is my understanding. I have never used one.

LoL: how big's a shirt button? I have big versions of the green that I haven't gotten around to listing yet - they're about 25mm across with 4 holes. Too big? and what colour as background for the blue and the red, still black?

bll - 2009-10-12 15:49:00

That size sounds fine bll. I want blue background with white or black koru and a red background. Does that make sense?

Hi everyone ... I have an old baby knitting pattern that uses Kaiapoi Silverine Quickerknit wool ... it doesn't say what ply it is? Can any of you expert knitters tell me? I'm not even sure if this wool is still available? I want to get my kneedles going again & knit my baby grandson another little jumper & need to know what ply wool to look at for this pattern. Thanks.

Hello there! I have had a week from h____! Our holiday programme was hit by some virus and on THursday we had 2 staff down sick and 12 children rang in sick having been ill all night. by 3pm we were down to 6 kids and one regular staff member and me who had to stand in as the others were dropping like flies. We were all exhausted by Friday night. I didn't get any time to anticipate my week off this week. It just happened. Had 2 year old grandson Saturday night and most of Sunday. He was back again last night as parents were working but I dropped him off at preschool by 9am this morning. Did the round of craft shops today as a treat to myself. Shame I had no money! Have to hubby at the airtport by 6am on Friday as he has a conference in Wellington over the weekend. Daughter going to same conference so having her 16 month old Friday and Saturday. I will have done a powerful amount of childcare on my week off. Will have to go back to work for a rest.
Off to do some cross-stitch till tea-time now.

Hi ruie. Tried to find one of those patterns in my stash but no luck. What size needles does the pattern say. That will give us all a clue.

Grizzly my girl. I knew it was a bad week for you. What a nightmare!!!! i have a day off from childcare tomorrow. Feeling rather stupid today. Slipped in the bath this morning. Bashed my good knee very badly, did the splits( Yep I kid you not, stop laughing grizzly) and landed very heavily at the bottom of the bath. My back is protesting and my right wrist is screamimg a bit. Had a good laugh after I had finished swearing and checking the bones and ribs out. Thank the Lord there are no hidden cameras in my bathroom.

You poor thing, makerealbany! How are you this morning? And no I wasn't laughing!! I fell over a chair I had blocking off a play area for baby B in July. First time I had fallen in years! A real shock to the system and although my knee didn't show any bruising at all it was a couple of months before I could touch it without going through the roof. I'll bet you've found a few more places that hurt this morning.

I sure did Ha ha. Went to make an appointment to get my eyes retested. Glasses are not strong enough. Called into the Library and replenished my reading supply and got a haircut. I am just lolling around now. Lol. It is a good day to be laidback and semiproductive.

Hi Margaret, pattern uses 3mm & 3.75mm needles. I called into the local wool shop in Browns Bay & she said the wool was 6ply & no longer available. So I will probably use 4ply & knit a size larger ... does that sound right? Golly I hope you've been resting up to ease those aches & pains.

ruie - 2009-10-14 17:55:00
2074

Hi ruie. I would use 3.25 & 4.00 for 4ply generally but have been known to use 3mm & 3.75 for some patterns. Checked in some of my old books and yes some of them state 6ply for quick knit. If the pattern gives an example of a test swatch to check your tension I would knit one. I must admit I am slack about this at times and consequently knit some garments for my grandchildren that are too big for awhile. Ha ha. I am however a loose knitter so I have to allow for that. I have never been known to knit anything that is too small so that is a plus. Happy knitting. Cannot stop moving girl I will seize up like a rusty old machine. lol.

good morning ladies. I went to the Mitre 10 Mega store's Ladies night last night .... there were approx 900 women there "playing" with power tools and other such manly things :). Had a great time. Constant flow of food and drink and wonderful opportunities to try new things in the diy department. But give me handcrafts any day - I have no aspirations to take up home handyman work.

I must admit I do admire women who can fix anything. These days my hands aren't strong enough to hold a drill. I magine the damage I'd cause! Haha. I've just about finished page 4 of my cross stitch of Baby B. Did 3 1/2 hours yesterday! Also working on little matinees jackets for some furry bunnies I bought somewhere. They have wee knitted knickers which I had to put a button hole in the back for their tail. Hopefully they will go well in the shop. It's fun doing something different. Have to make the most of today as baby B will be here for the next 2 days and doesn't allow much sit down time at 16 months.

Hi girls I play with power tools from time to time. Miss my big workshop days. Now it is only drills, sanders and power saws. Cannot use the waterblaster anymore. Shakes one about too much. I did not know that was on barbrose. What a fun time for the ladies.

Yes grizzly you will be running after bubs. I am always hobbling after Miss. She is so darn quick on her feet too. I reckon that girl will be a runner. Ha ha. She is 21 months and into changing nappies on her dolls etc. She tries to give them drinks which is funny but we have a lot of water spills. I am minding her this arvo. She naps in the arvo now so I am taking my knitting. Did a ladybug dishcloth last night. Pretty cool. Had a book from the library. Started the sleeves on the cotton cardi for Miss. I have to try and knit cotton more tightly. My cotton garments always end up larger than I want. Ha ha.

I'm with you Maki - Love my powertools. Don't love cleaning up tho! Thick layer of sawdust over everything in the garage. Last thing I made was a shelf unit for those square seagrass baskets from Briscoes. Needs painting ( and filling and sanding) - not so keen on those parts.

Hi bll I hate the cleaning up as well. Up at 5-30 this morn I am aching like hell now and My bruises look like a very bad patchwork quilt made of old sacking. Ha ha. Just had a hot bath with Radox and a cuppa. Off to mind little Miss for the day.

Just had breakfast after dropping hubby and his colleague out to airport and 6am! I thought I was on holiday!! Baby B will arrive shortly for the day. Had a beautiful summers day here yesterday but drizzling this morning unfortunately, that will teach me for thinking about a trip to the beach with my grandson today.

Good morning all. Am sitting up in bed, coffee and toast on the bedside table and laptop on my knee. Promised myself a slow and lazy start to the day and I am determined to keep that promise :) I have today off but cant spend it on craft as I have to help set up for a function tonight and also look after grandchildren for a wee while during the middle of the day.

Just bumping us up .... we must be busy with our crafts. I got one of my unfinished quilt projects out yesterday and did a bit more work on it. I can't decide how big to make it so am fluffing about a bit.

I finished my dressed bunnies, as mentioned above, today even with Baby B offering to help! Couldn't really get myself together after such an early start but still did a few hours cross stitch before going to bed. Baby B is back today for the afternoon, shame it is still drizzling as I have plants I want to put in the vege garden.

Had a lovely girls night in last night (Just me). Bought a pizza and some chocolate and watched 'Notebook' while I worked on my cross stitch. Lovely movie, I 've been saving it for this weekend 'cos it's a bit of a tear-jerker. Have to say I've slept really well on my own the last 2 nights, I'm usually a bit nervous. This will have been the 4th time in a year because of his surgeries so maybe I'm getting used to it! All the familiy arrives back today so everything will be back to normal.

I have uploaded a few of my quilts ... I tend to prefer simpler designs and using a plain background (often calico) - they always look nice. But I have never seen a quilt I havent liked even if its one I would not make myself.

Hi Grizzly I had a Girls night in by myself as well. I also watched a movie, knitted and ate chocolate. Lol. I am so used to living alone and sleeping alone I don't think I could handle anyone else being around. I guess I am set in my ways now. I have never been nervous of being alone, even when I lived in the country. Guess what? Guess who is going to be a Great Grandma? Moi. I am delighted but my daughter is in shock. My grandson is only 21 so that is understandable. His girlfriend is 24 and is a pleasant girl. I guess my daughter will adapt but it will take time. I guess at this stage of my life I am Hapu building as my daughter calls it. Ha ha. My Mum who already is a Great, great Grandmother is very happy too. My Grandson is well thought of by all as he is a lovely young man. I do not think he planned this but these things happen and we have to make the best of it and be positive for his sake.

Barbrose, Lovely quilts girl. Wait until I get my new glasses ha ha. Got the bug now. Sorted out craft stuff today and was still in my PJs wandering around at 12. Daughter rang me to go into the house for lunch and laughed when I went in. She told me I was doing a V--- . V---is my lovely DIL and always roams around in her PJs until she has finished her housework. She works all week. Daughter bought another car seat for the car so I have one permanently in my car now. I used to get fed up moving the seat from car to car. Hopeless if you have a bad back. Going off to watch a movie soon.

LOvely quilts barbrose! I don't have the patience for quilting so hats off to you. Congratulations, makeralbany, on the new announc3ement. My son was only 21 when he met his girlfriend who already had a 4 month old. He grew up very fast and its been 4 years now and they have added another son to the mix, of course. It's not easy for them and I pull my hair out wgen they have gone some times but like smartgirl says, there is a reason for everything.
Back to work today.
