This is the King George V postcard, prestamped with a halfpenny stamp printed on it, and with an extra halfpenny stamp added to make it up to one penny during the First World War, when there was a halfpenny War Tax on all mail. Then when later the rate was reduced back down to halfpenny, the card has been surcharged "HALFPENNY", possibly by rubber stamp. The card is unused, and in tidy condition. A slight crease at top left corner which is not really obvious, and does not detract from the beauty of the card.

The above is from the listing - I copied it because of the description would be easy to forget.

The card is 93x137mm and has "INLAND POST-CARD." in green type 31mm down from top and 11mm in from lhs, 4mm high type, total of 74mm long including full stop. the printed 1/2d stamp is 8mm from top and 7mm from lhs, the paper 1/2d stamp is 3mm to right of printed stamp, the over stamped "HALFPENNY" is in blue 15mm from top and 12mm from rhs, 3mm high type, 25mm long in total. The stamp and printed stamp on the card are 1915 King George V Surface 1/2d green. The card is unused no envelope, in good condition.

I have just found more of my stamps ... been trying to get them all together after the in-laws packed our stuff up over a year ago ... slowly finding important things like stamps lol ... I have a 1905 without VR lighthouse printed left of center but all is still just on the stamp ... just wondering if this is common?

Must be some more thoughts on this now. Ethical? I obviously promote philately the wrong way.

I guess one would have to find out how the profits are going to be used in promoting philately

Oops sorry about missing that, it's a small one ... 1d

And while I am in here, something I have had trouble finding with my limited time online is good sites for stamps from other countries, I have a lot of UK, USA, SA and a lot of bits and pieces for euorepean countries. Looking for sites like or similar to the ACS or Len Jury ones, any suggestions?

Info on NZpost mini letterbox please

Hi guys,

I've had a clean out of our place recently and come across this:

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/95/115792795_full.jp

g

Its a miniature of a NZ post street collection letterbox that holds paperclips.

I vaguely recall ordering it thru a catalog around 2001/2002 and am wanting to know more info on it, but can't find any info anywhere!

Any stamp collectors out there able to point me in the right direction please?

Thanks

That Post Box was part of the "World Postbox Collection"
They were called Paper Clip Dispensers ( Item No B-632 )
Designed by Tin Sung Yip and made in China
It would have been in a box with a certificate of authenticity number
They were mass produced and are a novelty item.

Hi, can anyone advise me about fiscally used stamps, I understand that there are pen cancels and punched stamps, I have a 3/- admiral with machine punched holes in it and not really sure of the value.

shamik - 2010-01-04 14:29:00

They are only worth a fraction of their postally used value.

I have found in a plaststic self sealing bag which I use to put stamps in when I sort them a $1.50 Australian Antartic Territory stamp, it's the king penguin one, portrait orientation with 3 king penguins in the pic. Maybe early to mid 90's.

Be careful as Perfins are very collectible, these have company initials punched in the stamp eg VOC,K,M,NZF,W.T,AWF,AC/&S,-
VO/CO,RI to name a few.Fiscaly used will have portions of DUTY PAID punched into them.Fiscally used decrease the value but on the other hand Perfins increase the value.

The value of your stamps will depend on what country they are from, what condition they are in, and if you have any rare ones.
You could ask your local stamp dealer, or list some on trademe to see how they sell.
Can you give more details of what you have.

Thanks for the advice, my 1d does have VOC but the 3/- has PAID punched into it so can take this as fiscally, thanks again.

It sounds like you have quite an assortment of world stamps there .
Stamp places will be listed in your phone book,or you might even have a stamp fair or club where you can make inquiries.
If listing on trademe, it might be an idea to separate the auctions out into the different countries.

When finished soak the stamp in cold water for a minute or so to get rid of the bleach smell.

If you have a lot of stamps with toning you could always contact Auckland City Stamps to see if they have any bottles of the Lindner "Erni" solution. I'm not sure if they're still the Lindner agents in NZ or stock the stuff anymore since the change in their ownership. It used to retail for about $34ish. You get 2 bottles of different solution - the first solution removes the toning, and the second solution rinses the stamp.

Mike our local stamp club sells Chloramine-T powder to members. this is the best thing to deal with rust. The bottles come with full instructions for use.

The Chloramine-T the stamp club sells, sells for $10 a bottle and no need for a follow up bottle. it is the genuine Chloramine-T without any branding costs added.

Steven

Hi, I'm wondering about longtype revenue stamps and their postal markings. I understand pen/punched/crown and stamp duty cancels are fiscally used but I also understand that some A Class, F Class and H Class cancels are also indicitive of fiscal use but others are not. Is there any resource material on this eg 'this H Class was only used for fiscal purposes' etc.?
Also would the lack of an index number in an A Class cancel mean it would more likely be a non postal use?
Any insight would be most helpful, thanks.

Hi there I am glad I found this thread. My Grandmother and her mother have collected stamps since the beginning of time and she had the collection valued in 87 for $90,000. She died and much to my horror we discovered them when we went through her stuff in America and found all the stuff she has hoarded for years!!!! I am wanting to sell them etc but want to find out a bit about them. Is there anyone in Hastings that would be interested in looking at them?

Higher valued collections are sometimes better handled by some of the bigger companies ,Mowbrays springs to mind others should be able to make more suggestions.

How should stamp albums be stored? Standing up? lying flat? Does it matter? Also is it 'not done' to soak stamps off a first day cover?

Albums should be stored standing up, and do not soak the stamps of a first day cover because then you will not have a first day cover!!
