Kuaka.. one way to save on flea treatment and its been ok'd by vets. Buy a advantage for Large dogs and get a small syringe. Dose the cat with 0.3mils every month. it works out a lot cheaper and is fine for them.

popeye333 - 2013-08-16 18:23:00

That sounds interesting popeye. I don't actually use Advantage, I use Frontline. It works, but in the summer if the fleas are really bad, I find I have to use it more frequently than recommended. It's not cheap, but I can't imagine what it would be like to be crawling with fleas, so I don't want her to be full of them and scratching all the time. She doesn't cost me much really, as she only eats biscuits and doesn't even like the special milk that my old cat used to have. She just has biscuits and water and I buy cheaper biscuits from the supermarket as well as the expensive vet ones, so she gets a variety. She's such good company and so funny that I really don't mind spending money on her.

morning ladies :) all is well with our son in Wellington (phew!) but he is over the shakes lol.
Not sure what I am going to do, maybe attempt a bit more on this sock. This magic loop method is a tad slow for me, hopefully I will getquicker as I find my 'rythm' (sp).
Happy knitting :)

kiwimade, I do my socks on a set of five double pointed needles, which I find much easier to handle than a set of four, because you have one free working needle and the work is in a sort of square rather than a triangle which I find doesn't give you hands enough room to move, especially with something like socks where you don't have a huge amount of stitches on the needles. Working with four needles the two "lazy" needles seem to always be in the way of me holding the one I'm actually knitting.

Looks like being a lovely day here (not sure what the forecast is) but it is cool. Hopefully it will warm up later.

Morning all. Glad your son is Ok Kiwimade. I will txt thistle today too, I don't like to add to the phone congestion.

Not going to be a fab day today. Have a grumpy sulky man, and sadly I need him to get the net curtains up. Although ,, I might give it a go and with sheer determination and cos I want to prove I can do it, Ill bust my guts to do it.
Will carry on knitting once the curtains are done. Im over this jacket now.. Ill go back to little things again. I feel far more achievement when I see things completed faster.
Sunny here at the mo. But it looks like it will rain again

Have a good day everyone

kuaka, I might just try your method too, sounds just the ticket for me! You can do it popeye, give it a go and I'm sure you will manage just fine. have the washing out but I suspect I'll be racing outside soon to bring it on, clouding over nicely here. MrK has asked if I can knit him a beanie so I'll add that to my 'list' of things to knit, sew or embroider. Daughter also picked out some gloves she likes so she is in the 'queue' as well lol. Don't quite know where I fit in! Funny how most of what I make is given away, I very rarely keep it. I just like the satisfaction of creating.
Happy knitting :)

I did the curtains.. BUT did something I shouldn't have. measures one off the other and from the top not the bottom. One was a good 10cms longer than the other. so had to take them down and adjust again. And of course Id put the machine away.
Im thinking if I get rid of the wall unit and mattress from the spare room I could put a table in for my machines. MrP has already said we could give them to the school for the gala. but Ill throw the table idea at him.
He wasn't in the best of moods this morning. but ok now.

Its funny cos I don't knit anything for myself either lol... Well I did make me a cream beanie with cables on it , hmmm 4-5 years ago lol.

Played in the freezers this morning. OMg the amount of black berries we have in there. Im kinda hoping they don't fruit well this year. But I have goe one freezer turned off. Will clean it tomorrow and leave it off till fruit starts coming in. Have got plums, apricots, blackberries. strawberries, raspberries and stewed apple in there. Along with tomatoes and cauli lol...

Will knit later. but pleased I have had a productive morning

well been out all morning shopping. went to a junk sale MrT bought a lap top and I got a web cab and owl that makes a nose when you walk pass it. then went to base and spent heaps on clothes and shoes for grandies.
now knitting time

popeye - I thought freezers get the sulks if they are turned off for any length of time. I thought they were supposed to be kept running.

carolev - what's a web cab?

kuaka - 2013-08-17 15:31:00

Im not sure Kuaka, re the freezer... They still work if the power has been off for a long time. So hopefully all will be good.. I can just drag it to the garage door and hose it out in minutes.

Im guessing Carole might have meant a Web Cam... most lap tops have them tho.
I hate them and refuse to use mine lol

Morning everyone.. Carole do you mean you got the webcam for your daughter? lol

One needs to learn not to go hanging into two chest freezers. My back is very sore this morning. Which is Dammed annoying cos I have things to do today.
So once the codeine has kicked in I shall spread the jobs out and have power rests inbetween.
Looks like it might be a good day out there today...
Your certainly powering through the tea cosys Carole.

I cant wait to start making smaller things again. But I will finish this jacket or Ill never hear the end of it lol.

Have a good day everyone...

I have spent 4 hours in the strawberry bed, well Mr T did all the hard work, I dug them out and trimmed off dead leaves , but our nice lovely neighbours have planted chinesse tonns in there garden and it's spread all though our beds, so we had to dig down about 3 feet and the big roots ran along the beds for meters. ( our beds are boxed raised beds)only got about 2 meters done today will do more next week end. now for a nanna nap

morning ladies:) Lawns need mowing and edges need trimming so I'm going to get that done today. The work in those strawberry beds will pay off carole when you're munching on strawberries :). Finished my first sock ever last night and it fits! Will make the other one and take a pic. There are a couple of mistakes in it but I don't care, I think it adds 'character' lol.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.. Yumm fresh warm strawberries eaten in the sun are lovely and sweet.

Woohoo well done on the sock Kiwimade.. I agree any mistakes don't in stuff I make, are On purpose mistakes so that they are personalised and no one else will have the same lol... That's my excuse and Im sticking to it lol

Knitting here today. I didn't get much done on the weekend at all. So the next couple of days Ill be knitting.

Overcast here but I didn't see what the weather was. It wont make any difference to me what it does, hope you get your lawns done tho KM.

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2013-08-19 08:38:00

my nieghbour told me quilters make a 'humility' patch as God is the only perfect thing. The humility patch is made on purpose so my knitting mistakes can be my humility patches :).
MrK has taken over the weedwacker and doing the edges for me now (method in my madness to have him put the line in lol) so I'll get some petrol for the mower and get started. Takes me around two hours to get the lawns mowed. Will be glad when our paddock is sold and I won't have all that extra frontage to mow. The Furry One is with me as he hates the sound of the weedwacker.
Want to get some sewing done so might do that this afternoon.
Happy knitting :)

Cold and overcast here this morning, only 10 degrees in the lounge when I got up so the heat pump is on. I would light the woodfire but I'm hoping it will warm up later. I keep meaning to re-set the timer on the heatpump. I did set it but it didn't work ('cos I had set the timer to come on at what I thought was 7am but I had the actual time set wrong, as I set it at 11 in the morning and didn't realise that it has a 24 hour clock, so the flipping thing was trying to switch on at 7pm when we already had it on or the room was already warm because we had the woodfire on - what a twerp!)

Going to try to get some knitting done today. Had a busy day yesterday, did several loads of washing and got it dry, did the ironing and put it away and did the vacuuming. Might do some baking this afternoon, and have another go at re-starting my poor tunic which is still languishing in the "half-done" pile. Just sitting watching the Louis Vuitton cup racing. Two races done and dusted, and in both races only one boat has finished.

kuaka - 2013-08-19 09:03:00

kiwimade - I used to work with a Japanese lady and she told me one day when I was cursing about making a mistake in my knitting, that God is the only one who makes things perfectly, so Japanese knitters always put a deliberate mistake in their work. Don't know if it's true or not, but it's nice to be able to console yourself that way if you need to.

My lawns will have to wait till I'm feeling a bit more energetic, so will the weeds I'm afraid, and as for the roof - well I'll get round to it eventually - these things can't be rushed, you know.

kuaka - 2013-08-19 09:46:00
2023

talking of lawns I have not mowed mine in 10 year and Mr T has never mowed this lawn, he gave up mowing lawns 15 years or more ago. when the lawn mower died, god rest her soul, (was a girl mower) we pay a guy to do them $27 and he weed eats, takes away clippings and blows it, and it's a big lawn thanks your so much Murray. off to hang out last load of washing , then going to town

carolev - 2013-08-19 10:12:00
2024

I don't mind mowing the lawns which is just as well as it would cost us a small fortune to pay someone to mow them. Now I just need my gardens to match the lawn lol, need to weed again.
No knitting done today, been finishing a book which needs to go back to the library this week instead.
Happy knitting :)

We pay a father and son $20 to mow our pocket handkerchief lawn. It takes them about 12 minutes to weed eat, mow and blow. And the son has an artificial leg. I reckon they do really well. Oh and they take the grass away too which is good.
I am the lawn mower peoples worst nightmare, cos I used to mow lawns for a living lol... MrP goes and pays them, they are scared of me lol

I have five more increases and a few extra rows and Im at the armhole. So will be decreasing tomorrow hopefully. Looked at the pattern for the collar today it goes up to 169 stitches lol.... Will need long needles, but thankfully as soon as you get that many you cast off lol.. And its knitted separately and sewn on. No picking up stitches Yayayay

Morning Everyone.
Hope everyone is fit and well. Kiwimade how is your sister getting on with her op?
Was going to sneak out for 15 min's this morning and pull the debris off the bean fence but it doesn't look to flash weather wise out there.
Have to pop up the road to post a sale and get choccie... very seldom I run out of choccie lol.
Will knit the rest of the time so I can get to the top of the hill so to speak.
Am taking a friend up to Manurewa tomorrow for an ultrasound, so will take the knitting and e-reader.

Have a good day all

morning :) My sister is doing fine but has found she is allergic to one of the pain killers so has had to 'downgrade' the pain relief. Will take time but she will be soo much better off.
I did our bean fence a while ago, just need to burn all the garden rubbish. If it's fine today I might do that. Have rose clippings to burn too as well as other garden prunings.
It makes a big difference weeding during the winter months - should only take me a day or two now to weed instead of a huge week of back breaking work. This winter has been the first in over 20 years I haven't worked so could spend the time outside. And now I have MrK to help me as well.
I need to wash the floor too carole :)
Will get into knitting this afternoon - or try too lol.
Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-08-20 08:50:00
2029

I daren't burn any garden rubbish here as we are surrounded by bush, and I wouldn't want any sparks to set it on fire.

Still haven't got re-started on my tunic but there's hope it will happen soon. Have done other knitting instead, and then I really will get stuck in and finish the tunic. The original plan was that if I liked it enough when I'd finished it, I would make myself another one in a different colour. Hmmmm, might take a while eh?

Forecast is for heavy showers this morning, so I will try to nip out in between them, I'd hate to get wet and shrink.

My floors need washing too - any volunteers? Thought not!

Happy knitting ladies.

wooooopppp woooooopppp lmao my pay will go through tonight, thank goodness :) Now I can catch up on some bills the money was 'tagged' for.
MrK has just given me a wee wooden box he has made and ommg it is gorgeous. He made it out of scrap rimu and put an inlay around the top of a different timber. He told me he made it out of one piece and all the grain goes round the box and matches. He even french polished it :). I was the giunea (sp) pig lol and he plans to make more as Christmas pressies. Daughter was eyeing up what he was doing and hinted strongly for one too when she stayed the other day. (So that is knitting and woodworking she 'wants' lol). So I suspect he will make her a bigger one as a jewellery box for Christmas. I'll take a pic and post it a bit later on :)
Happy knitting :)

YAY Kiwimade, that must be such a relief for you..

Ohhh wooden boxes are one of my "Things" but I went a bit over the top and now selling some.. Cant wait to see your pictures.

I haven't ventured outside to the garden. MrP said the wrong thing to me this morning, so I went up the street , came home swept floors and then knitted. I was very good and didn't argue back at him. But when I got back from the shops he had done the dishes, so Im thinking he knew he had said the wrong thing. And been good since.
I have 17 rows to the armhole now. no more increasing Yay

Kuaka, sounds like your going to have to bite the bullet and pick up the tunic. I reckon it will all be fine when you pick it up

popeye333 - 2013-08-20 12:36:00
2033

I did two rows on the tunic before I went out for the afternoon. I decided that I can't handle doing both sides of the front above the neck opening at the same time, so have put one side on a stitch holder. Now I realise that I have really started on the wrong side as it's the other side of the front which I have sewn to the back (well nearly all the way up to the armhole) so now I will put the piece that I did two rows this morning onto a stitch holder, and work on the piece which is currently on the stitch holder. Then I will get back to it and it will be all done in next to no time (I hope).

Morning everyone...

Well done Kuaka for making a start, at least you have your self sorted out to carry on with the tunic now.

Clown pants sound like fun Carole.

Im taking my friend for her ultra sound today so have packed a bag with my knitting (decided to take it after all) have charged the e-reader and have the phone charging now. so will throw in a drink and something to munch on, since Im diabetic and it will be past lunchtime before we get finished.

Have a wonderfull day everyone.. Be good..

morning ladies :) Sounds like everyone is going to be busy today. Kuaka... you go girl! I know what it's like making something you're not too happy with, it's like a blimmen marathon to get it finished.
I have some old bricks I need to move, the Furry One chased a rat into the pile (they WERE all neatly stacked up ready for using in the garden) and I moved - OK I shoved them with a stick lol - some of the bricks so he could catch it. He's dug a big hole under the pile so they need to be moved before it falls over. And the damed thing got away so I'll need to get some bait.
Happy knitting :)

Hi All..What a dismal day it is out there.

Took my friend to her appointment. Got a lot of knitting done.. Have the every second row decreasing to do now. so I should get that done smartly.

Been a while since I had been in that module in the super clinic, and they still have a basket on the counter full of knitting.. They supply needles and wool and ask people who can knit to add a few rows , they do strips and then sew them into blankets for overseas. Its a lovely idea and Ive done some on previous visits.
But I want this jacket done, and then I can present it to MrP as his anniversary present. 22 years next Friday.
Have just sold the Santas so im pleased of that..

NOW does one use that money to buy more wool since James C Brett is 15% off at the mo... or does one do something boring like rego the car lol..

Decisions Decisions lol...

popeye333 - 2013-08-21 15:57:00

I would do the rego what hospital did you go too? I am cold today had heater on all the time I have been home.

carolev - 2013-08-21 16:16:00
2039

I'd be boring as well and pay the rego - better that than a $200 fine. It's been cold here most of the day too and the heater is on since around 3.30pm. I've been doing some more stumpwork this afternoon, just have some fiddly leaves to do and then I can work on the flower. The leaves are so small and I feel clumsy stitching it so this is going to take some practice. I do love learning new things though, especially if I teach myself.
That's a neat idea with the knitting at the hospital popeye, I haven't seen that before.
happy knitting.

Went to the super clinic in Manurewa Carole. Its a lovely big clinic that has 11 modules and does untoll clinics. Also does Day surgeries, and the odd overnighters. Best part.. Free parking,,, unlike Middlemore that costs the earth.

Ill end up doing the rego lol, it will make my life easier to do it.. But sooo boring lol

popeye333 - 2013-08-21 17:47:00

kiwimade I have some extra plants if you want them

carolev - 2013-08-21 18:48:00
2042

I'm pleased to report that I've finally cracked this shaping on the tunic, got it all sorted, all written out, with the neck shaping every 4th row 8 times, then every 6th row heaps of times, plus a cable every 6th row, and armhole shaping every other row so many times then every 3rd row so many times. Not until I had all the rows written out with markings on to indicate which decrease needed doing when, did I realise what a mission it was. I've now done quite a few rows and progressing nicely. I'm doing one side of the v-neck at a time, trying to do both was more than my brain could cope with. I just hope it fits, I fear it will be too snug a fit.

Morning everyone... Soo pleased you have it sorted Kuaka. It will grow quickly now... I get the feeling it is something you will be wearing for years to come.
I was always going to rego the car, lol being new to us I was going to bump it monthly from now till Christmas which is when I like to do it annually. Cos I use my power and phone accounts to save money, then we also get the power rebate. And I use our credit to cover the car and the rebate covers the power. been doing it that way for years. Friends think im mad wanting to rego the car at Christmas time. But it just works .

Will do it for three months and then bump it one month and all will be fine again.

I was tired last night, didn't hear a thing, not that I usually do unless its very loud. The ground is wet so it must have rained at some time.

Shopping today, haven't even made my list yet lol.. then gotta refill the pill trays.. Then fit some knitting in...

Have a good day everyone. Ill pop back later as usual

popeye333 - 2013-08-22 08:37:00
2047

I'm still hoping for more rain - need enough to wash the trees away which are blocking my sea view!! Don't think we'll get "that" much. Yes I will crack on and finish the tunic, but I fear I should have done a size bigger, never mind, the plan was always to do this one as a prototype and then if it works out to do another one in some lovely possum/merino I have just waiting to be used. I think the possum/merino will knit up slightly larger, so I would probably still do the same size - course I could get really smart and do a tension square (don't think I've ever done one before so this could be a first for me). Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day, the sun is shining, the sea is like glass and it's not really cold. Roll on summer.

I did my shopping yesterday popeye, didn't want much, didn't have much on my list, but I still spent over $200. Just as well I'm not on a strict weekly budget - I put everything on my credit card and pay it off in full each month, so if I overspend one week, I just spend less or nothing the next week, as long as I don't spend more in a month than I can afford, I have a bit of wriggle room. Course I've got a birthday coming up, so I bought a couple of "treats" that I wouldn't normally buy, so I could have easily spent less if I was more disciplined.

Have a good day everyone.

kuaka - 2013-08-22 09:27:00
2048

Ive never knitted a tension square either. but Ive learnt from doing the toys that they are always bigger than the pattern says, and that's before I stuff them.
Possum and merino would be nice and warm... Too hot for me most likely.

I spent $93 which included steak, sausage meat, London pride sausages and bacon. Didn't need cheese but will need it next week.
Got my free bar of Wonka chocolate, thanks to fly buys lol

I don't have any birthdays till next year now.. Well I do but they get a fone call... And talking of that,, OOPS there are two today.. heck... Will have to ring this afternoon. Both in Taranaki too lol

I don't usually look forward to summer, and kinda of being a bit wary since winter has been soo mild. Our house is open to the full on sun from lunchtime and it gets sooo hot in here.

Still the spring flowers are sowing themselves off and it makes you feel good to be alive

I just been shopping spent $132 and got a big leg of lamb for $23, that will last 3 meals. bought some dolls stuff of TM and the big doll has a cloth body that has mildew on it washed it but still there. off to knit now

Wonder if you could try that curtain Magic Carole? you can buy it on here.

YAYAYAY I have just finished the sleeve..
Been yakking on the phone to my bil for my sils birthday lol.. She wasn't home so I had a chat with him.. hes my fave bro... And then talked to a friend also in Taranaki whose birthday it is as well today. So that blew an hour, didn't knit while I talked this time lol...
Will start the collar after tea but I don't knit that at night.. is 5 weeks tomorrow since I stared it.

Hope everyone has had a good day
