I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
1951

Nope didn't like the curtain with the frill on it. had the sense to sew it on with stretched stitches incase I didn't like it . Have taken it off.
Will have a nosey on here and see what I can find.

Am 8 increase stitches , 20 rows to the end of the increasing on the sleeve. Getting there slowly. At least the decreasing will be heaps faster. don't think there will be much to do between the end of increasing and armhole either hopefully. m about halfway through 4th ball. Its lasting well. I reckon it will take 5 balls maybe a little for the collar. Which makes it about $25 for the wool and god knows what for the zip lol. Might need a mortgage for that. lol

Should say I had a nosey. And brought two new curtains for $11.. very happy

Thanks for your kind words Popeye. I finished my first lot of about 25 beanies to be send away. Now knitting some catnip toys from the leftover bits for my daughters cat. I have heaps of wool to go for a lot more beanies. Found baby wool at The Warehouse for half price a few days ago. Happy knitting everyone !!

morning ladies :) good to hear you are on the mend carole :) My sister has surgery today so it's going to be lots of waiting around. Perfect for knitting lol. Tomorrow our daughter and her partner are visiting and staying - it's the first time I will get to see her realllllllly pregnant lol. The last time we saw her she wasn't showing so I'm getting the camera out!
Happy knitting :)

Morning all, well I feel really rubbish this morning, hardly slept a wink last night, no idea why. Read most of the night, and finally dozed off about 5.45 this morning only to wake at 7.30 to heavy rain, and got up to go and rescue the Herald which was a soggy heap in the driveway. Really annoys me that they can't wrap it when it's either raining or the forecast is for rain. It usually arrives just before 7 so it's been out there in the rain for about 40 minutes or so. Rant over. Going to winz today to apply for my pension. Weather couldn't be much worse. Never mind, the pay rise will be worth it. More spare cash to spend on yarn. I will take some knitting to do just in case I arrive early or they keep me waiting. Happy knitting everyone. (Cold, wet and windy here by the way - winter is back - I should light the fire I think but I don't want to risk hurting my back again, so we'll stick with the heat pump. Hubby will be sore this morning, he fell over last night. Not quite sure how he did it. He plucked a banana from the fruit bowl and stumbled as he headed to the kitchen sink to peel it, he caught his shoulder on a corner of wall which sticks out near the pantry, and landed in a heap on the dining room floor. He couldn't get up for a while and I couldn't help him 'cos of my back. The banana was squashed so the birds can have that today. He's still in bed but he said he's hurt his elbow. Seems to be one thing after another)

Morning everyone.. Sure is wild and woolly out there.. MrP is cold so I have put the heater on. Me I for the second morning in a row put the fan on in my room. I like cold air to breathe. So Im sitting here without sleeves at the mo.
Ohh Kuaka not a good time for you. Maybe MrK just turned too quickly and had a blood rush and spun out. MrP does that a lot. He will be sore. Best place to leave him in bed.
Kiwimade hope the surgery goes well. Yup hospitals are good places to knit, or read eh. When I did my 2 hour diabetes blood test I took some feather wool and knitted a scarf while I was waiting.
When I was in hospital before my heart surgery, cos they wouldn't let me know I knitted hats and scarves and booties. I sold a hat and scarf set to the visitor of the other lady in my room..lol. MrP reckons I had a cheek, but she asked what I was doing with it.
Carole I love the pink...Glad your pain has eased. I plan on knitting another tea cosy like I knitted years ago. All in garter stitch but you have alternate vertical rows of colour and you carry the other colour behind and pull tightly to create rounded columns sort of. I did one years ago for a CWI competition and won with it.

A nice day to sit and knit here.

Have a good day all

Popeye is this 623021915 auction of the pattern you plan to knit? The one in the middle.I have just found this pattern in a stack of knitting patterns from mum. Was wondering how easy it is?

Yes Whiskey that's it. Although mine didn't have the squares at the bottom it was just all single columns of colour. Its very easy to do, just carrying the wool across the back of the row.
If I can do it Im sure you will be able to. the one I have has like a tray bit to sit it in but I never made that.
Carole has a picture in the knatty knitters. I can copy my pattern and send it to you if you would like it.

Morning ladies :) Kuaka, I hope MrK is feeling better today. Falls give everyone a real fright.
I'm off to visit my sister today in hospital, surgery went well :). Need to get gas bottles filled - I was hoping we wouldn't need the gas heater on quite as much but this cold snap has proved me wrong. So I'll be out and about in this yuckky cold weather.
Happy knitting :).

thanks kiwimade, Mr K (grumps or "his nibbs" is how I usually refer to him!) has just surfaced and although he says his elbow is still sore, he certainly looks better, so fingers crossed. It was cooler here this morning, so I got up, put the heat pump on and went back to bed with a cup of tea. I have had several attempts at setting the heat pump to come on before I get up, and sometimes it works but mostly it doesn't. I'm obviously doing something wrong. I'll have to re-read the instructions. Anyway it's a good excuse to have another hour in bed. It's nice and sunny though, not a cloud in the sky, but it's windy and the forecast isn't good for later on. I am hoping to finish a little baby blanket I'm crocheting this morning, and then try to sort out how to get back into the tunic I've been promising to finish for myself. I just can't seem to get my head around all the different decreases and the cables, but I really want to finish it, it's bugging me now that it's just sitting there staring at me, and it's so close to being finished. Course it probably won't even fit me, I have a feeling it's too small but I'm certainly not going to unpick it. Happy knitting everyone.

Morning All.. tis a bit chilly this morning. MrP is still in bed, he didn't have a good night.
Glad to hear MrK is improving. Falls shake the body up in a big way and it takes a while to settle eh.
Keep at the tunic Kuaka, you might pick it up this time and it will all work simply.

Be safe on the roads Kiwimade... Hope your sister is recovering well.

I counted the rows on my first blanket strip last night. There are 280. Im at 240 on the second strip so getting there. I didn't want to get out of the warm bed to get a tape measure.
Will be working on the cardy today. I need to get it finished so I can see a different wool for a bit.

I'm off back to the hospital today, my sister's surgery took longer than expected as they found other bits to do but other than that, she will be fine. Morning everyone..

Wow Kiwimade, hope your sister recovers ok.. Big surgeries can take a while.
I bet you are floating knowing your daughter will be there today.. Have fun

I now have 36 rows left on the blanket strip, since it takes two rows of garter stitch for a row. I will finish that tonight. And Ill do another dark blue, since that has the highest number needed then a lemon.

Now that granny pam and grandmasue have me sorted on my raglan decreasing Ill get into that today.
MrP is up so far today. lets see if he manages a whole day up... hes shutting himself down..

Have a good day everyone.

Hi All...

Lunch break for me.

Ive been busy downsizing 3 little craft drawers to 1.5. And tidied everything in my MILs three tier sewing box. Have a bag of stuff to list. And a huge bag of sewing needles and safety pins to go through.
I know one can never have more than enough but this is scary lol... Mine, mums and those I got from a sewing basket I brought somewhere along the line.

Fine here, cold wind so the towels will at least be fluffy.

Knitting to be done later.

PS Warehouse has Up to 60% off. Deramores has 15% off baby wool and a cool free fairy doll pattern.

Have a good day

popeye333 - 2013-08-14 12:59:00
1977

I wondered if you'd seen the fairy doll pattern popeye - it's quite cute, isn't it?

I have finished the baby blanket, would have liked it a bit bigger, but I've run out of wool, so that's it. Just have to sew a few ends in. Still haven't got back to the tunic but that's on the "to do" list for this evening, and I've found an extension lead so I can use my "daytime" light, 'cos it's dark charcoal and too hard to see by my ordinary light in the evenings. Have a little sewing job to complete for someone, so I must do that this afternoon, then I suppose I will have to cook us some tea.

Went to stitch and bitch this morning and one of the young ladies turned 60 so we had a big choccy cake with yummy choccy icing and we all sang happy birthday. I think I will stay away when my birthday is due.

kuaka - 2013-08-14 14:50:00
1978

Yes she is cute Kuaka. Might give her a go, I have some variegated but its 4ply so will double it up.
That's one part of knitting darker colours, its far easier in the daytime. hence me doing my blanket at night..

Pins? Needles anyone? lol.. this is what I found this morning. there will be others lying around in drawers etc.

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/279675131.jpg

I have kept half the safety pins especially the bobby pins. And about a third of the needles. lol will list the rest with the laces and cottons etc I have culled out.

I miss doing shouts for my birthday... so id have to go. One of my school friends never works her birthday, she reckons its cos no one should have to work on their birthday, I tell her its cos she doesn't like giving the shout lol

I used to work for a company that gave every employee their birthday off and if your birthday fell on a public holiday or weekend, it didn't matter, you still got a day. We could choose whenever we took out birthday day off :). There was even a rugby match once which started after lunch for some reason and the guys went to it and us girls ran the office. Us girls got a shopping day the following week and the guys ran the office :).

morning :) just waiting for all the sleepyheads to be up and about :), daughter is looking realllllyyy pregnant lol so I took some pics of her. Felt our grandy moving about and kicking last night - ommg that was special! They bought a cot with them for MrK to repair and paint so he has another project to do - as if he doesn't have enough but he doesn't mind at all. This grandy is going to be adored lol.
I'm going to learn the magic loop method as I want to knit socks. Have never knitted socks before and want to give it a go. Daughter has also picked out a pattern for a pair of gloves so all the more reason to learn it. I used circular needles over 20 years ago and I'm sure I had it all figured out then, just need to jog the old memory banks. Thank goodness for you tube! Maybe socks as well Carole? ooohhh I hear movement, someone is up :)
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone...

Ohh so pleased your having a good time with your daughter Kiwimade. It is a special time for you.
OOh heck the lawn mowing men have brought their dog with them. Bob is certainly NOT happy lol.. but hes not backing away either... Can be brave when there is a glass door between them lol.

I finished the second strip last night.. Had to recount everything.. So Im going to count the rows off in blocks of 50.. 286 rows on one side, so with it being garter stitch it feels like twice that long lol

Shopping today. Ive slipped into stock up mode a little early this year. Usually start in September, buying about $5 a week extra and by Christmas the cupbaords are full and have everything we need other than buying ham and cream for Christmas day.
Also means more money is available if Im not buying food lol.

Having a day off my clearing out so I can knit the jacket today. Its a month tomorrow,, so Im doing ok but have to admit Im getting a little bored with it all being one colour.

Carole while don't you make a blanket? You could knit strips like me and sew up. Far less sewing up that way.
Im working on mine being finished by next winter, Im in no rush but its my bedtime knitting

Have a wonderfull day everyone

popeye333 - 2013-08-15 08:51:00
1985

Well I did try to get back to working on my tunic last night, I made a start, kept counting and recounting the rows that I had done on the back up to the armhole and counting the rows on the front, to see how many more I needed to do before the armhole shaping, but it was so hard, I gave up, and decided to just take the plunge and sew one of the seams together, so that I could see how much more I have to do. Had almost finished sewing the seam up and my son phoned and we had a long chat, so that was as far as I got, but today I will try to finish sewing the seam, and then I can continue with the knitting, as I will be able to easily work out where to start the armhole shaping (well that's the theory anyway), and from then on it should be easy peasy. Or I could just toss it aside and do something else, like sew up the tunic that I made 18 months ago and is still only pinned together.

Carolev if you have oodles of yarn (and don't all knitters??? - I know I have enough to last two lifetimes) you could always do blankets as popeye says, cushion covers, hot water bottle covers. If you have lots of that fluffy yarn like you used on the tea cosy, you could make a blanket - there was someone on here, can't remember who it was, and she was knitting little squares of the fluffy stuff, and then crocheting round them and then sewing them together to make a blanket. They looked stunning. If you can't crochet, you could still knit around them with plain yarn and then sew them together, or there's the 10 stitch blanket (I tried one but found it boring to do so unpicked it) or there's a magic square blanket, which requires no sewing up.

Going to make another cup of tea. Cold here this morning. Only 12 degrees indoors, I feel as though I should light the woodburner to heat it up quickly, but it looks like it might be a lovely day, sunny and no wind at the moment, so I'm hoping it will warm up later.

Happy knitting everyone.

Good on you for hanging in there Kuaka. You will get it done.. Just a thought I had tho, hope the pins haven't rusted in the garment you need to sew up. Wow 12 is cold for the winterless north lol.
We decided to visit the oppy after getting the groceries. Accidentally got some lovely green crepe wool.. I was good tho, they had 3 bags and I only got one.
But the bonus was I found a hoodie with along dark metal zip in it and measured it. Close enough I thought so I grabbed that. Cos Id said to the lady I only wanted the zip, she gave it to me for 10 cents.. Nice eh.
I have taken it out of the hoodie. And it has had the edges of the zip bound like bias binding on the edge. So I will leave that on it. And it gives me more room to sew on. Im going to cheat and use the sewing machine if I cant. At least with the edging its going to be firm to sew, just the cardy that will have give in it.
Got my curtains this morning, they had the measurements around the wrong way.. But the top of it actually has a frill on it.. So I will shorten them from the top and still keep the frill. Will be full enough, just. Will do them tomorrow.

Happy knitting everyone... Im on the look out for a baby shrug pattern if anyone knows exactly where to find a free one online.

No, the pins haven't rusted - yet - i checked them a few weeks ago. and 12 degrees isn't as bad as 6 which was what we had quite a few times last winter.

Hi all. Haven't picked up the needles or cross-stitch this week. My mojo has got up and gone. To top that off, I came home from work today with a very sore throat and I have a bad cough. I won't be going in tomorrow so hopefully I can have a good rest and then maybe my wandering mojo might come back.

kiwimade - how lovely to have your daughter staying with you. I learned magic loop last year and love knitting socks using this method. I always knit from the toe-up.

carolev - I have this idea that I want to knit lots of tea cosies and have bought a book or two. I have only done one so far. So many projects I want to do, not enough time, lol.

morning, housework for me too then have to buy a new iron. I killed the old one and I need one for sewing. Am still teaching myself the magic loop and am finding I'm getting the hang of it quite quickly. With knitting socks, what's the best way, toe up or top down? I have a top down pattern I thought I would try but am happy to give both ways a go.
Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-08-16 08:30:00
1993

kiwimade, I've only ever knitted socks top-down, not sure why toe-up is so popular, can't really see that it makes any difference, but maybe I'm just an old stick-in-the-mud. As for magic loop, well done you for getting to grips with it, I've tried several times and just don't seem to get it. I guess I will have to give it another go at some stage, but meantime it's just a mystery to me. As for housework, well I suppose I should do some, but this morning I have to go out and post a couple of parcels (have to wrap them yet) and take puss to the vet. She (yes, she) had a letter from the vet last week saying it was time for her annual vet check and would she please ask her owners to make an appointment to bring her in for it. I thought that was kinda cute.

And this afternoon I might do some knitting - just for a change!

Morning everyone... Having a flat battery day today, its a warfarin thing.. but Im determined to keep going. Have to go get some more Insulin for MrP so will take some stuff to the oppy.

it is cute when mail arrives for the cat or dog lol. Our boy got something similar and is due for his checkup as well. He loves going to the vet as they make such a fuss over him - the thermometer up the bum is not his thing though lol. Don't blame him either.
Just about finished housework, then I'm going to pick my new iron up. Ordered it through Fly Buys, thought I should use up some of the points. I also need to get petrol for the lawnmower as the lawn needs mowing again - looks like we are back into weekly mows now.
Then I'll have another attempt at this sock knitting - got all tangled up yesterday and had to cut the stitches off the circular needles with scissors!! Told MrK I felt like an absolute beginner knitter all over again lol.
Happy knitting :)

Hi-ya ladies.
Havent posted for awhile.
MrW is home with the flu (don't you just love man flu NOT)
I'm starting to get a scratchie throat and a headach. (Mental note to self...it is not coming to anything...it is not coming to anything...it is not coming to anything lol)
I also am hosting an Avon Get together on Saturday evening, where my avon lady comes over and lets the girls try the make up colours (foundations, blushs and eye colours etc) to see which best suits their skin tones as well as sample perfumes to see which ones they like instead of having to buy a full bottle and finding you don't like it. If any of you ladies are in Christchurch and want to come along just find me on our facebook page. (i will post this message there as well)

Yayay I have finished the first sleeve. Feels like it has taken forever lol. Looks very long but as I said to MrP it goes right to the neck and will short when it goes around his arm and over the shoulder.
Will start the next one after lunch.

Funny you should say about using fly buys Kiwimade, I ordered a toaster last week. Went and got it, and yesterday I get a letter saying my toaster is ready to pick up. I must ring them and tell them to update their records.

Sounds like fun Whiskey on the avon party get together. My avon lady is not the most reliable. but Im well stocked for now. I really love the Pomegranate and mango smelling stuff. Have shampoos, hand wash, shower gel and body spray all in the same flavour.. You gotta say flavour cos they smell good enough to eat lol.

Have got the heater on, its quite cold here today. Its lovely seeing the flames even if they are fake lol.

Have a good day everyone

Well I'm back from the vet, check, 'flu jab, worm tablet and two bags of biscuits, $114 thank you very much. The flea treatment will have to wait till next month as that's getting on for $50 for 3 treatments. I bought two bags of biscuits as they were on special at $55 for two rather than $36 each. I mustn't complain though as it's much cheaper than buying jellimeat which my old cat used to eat, she was eating 3 cans of fancy feast a day towards the end. Cost me a small fortune.

I didn't have time to do my parcels so I will have to go out again this afternoon, and of course it's wet and windy, so I'd rather stay home. Never mind. Some things just can't be helped.

kuaka - 2013-08-16 12:32:00

kiwimade - I just prefer the toe-up method. I like how I can try them on as I go, lol. Also, it is so long since I've done top down that I've forgotten if you have to sew up any seams - do you? I only ever did one pair of top-down and I'm sure I had to sew something up. No seams in toe-up.

Speaking of Fly Buys - I had to buy something or else lose points. I ordered a Charles Dickens 3-DVD set. I'll take it out to my girlfriend's place in the country next time I go to stay.

Never went to work today. Didn't get up until 10.30am. Felt terrible all day - sore throat, coughing and just feeling so tired.

Going to have a look and see if I can find my knitting or cross-stitch mojo tonight. :-)

looks like I am just going to have to try both methods :). The top down I'm doing uses magic loop so no sewing long seams. Have doen the ribbing and begun the leg. Husband is fascinated by the way it all works lol. Daughter asked me to finish a cross stitch I started for her then went to uni and with mum becoming terminally ill and husband becoming so sick I never got it finished. I hadn't forgotten it lol, just got distracted by this new baby :D. I'll finish it after the socks so looks like I'll be cross stitching and embroidering next. Must admit, it is the longest gap in finishing a project I have ever had!
