Didn't see it when I did a tour of the Perth Mint but it sure gets hot when they melt the gold. Afterwards went down Hay Street to the Rare Coin Company. Good reality check as my wallet cried let me out of here you'll be bankrupt at their prices!!
Next day went to Rottnest Island to see the lovely Quokka's. But I think these cute critters are Wallabies not Roos..

Couple of the coin dealers in Adelaide were selling some pretty reasonable condition full sovs mid last year at retail $400 AU$ each out of their shops.

A prominent member of this coin club has stated that us ordinary guys should stick to silver...though some gold Byzantine coins listed a while ago nearly made me reconsider.

And now Pope Francis has just come out blasting the "cult of money" tyrannizing the poor. Supposedly money must serve not rule. Will Bill English be Excommunicated after his Budget is read in the Vatican? Doesn't the Vatican make mega-bucks selling coins and stamps?

Byzantine gold is probably easier to find than Byzantine silver in any case :-)

Depending on volume, may pay to split into NZ and other as auctions. Good pics, will help you achieve best results if you list them.
Have you a brief description for what is on offer,

When you say Could do with a clean , Resist the temptation don't clean any of the coins .
Just list as a bulk lot with a couple of clear photos and let them find their level.
Don't put a buy now on as you may have some thing special and not know it.

Yes, I wouldn't worry about cleaning them. Does you camera have a Macro button? It's usually indicated by a flower symbol. That's for taking pix from 300 mm to 700 mm away. Digital Macro is for 50-150 mm away. These settings are not available on all cameras. Have a look at some other coin photos on here to see what you want to achieve.

Here's the most useful advice I can offer:

http://www.imore.com/macro-photography

Of course, it's really someone else's advice, but one thing I noticed is that even with an ipod, it's possible to get too close. Move back and use the zoom function.

Hi folks, is anyone aware of anything suitable for storing NZ uncirculated dollar coins? I'm talking about the ones in those square plastic cases used from 1967-1988 (I'd like to keep them in those cases).

I can make something up for them, but was wondering if anyone knows of anything off the shelf.

I'd quite like to know too! Virtually any "mint packaging" makes storage and/or display difficult, although the cases used for the dollar coins you describe were pretty much of an international standard at the time, so you'd imagine there'd be something designed for them, even if it was done 30-40 years ago. I can't recall seeing anything in ads in the old UK COIN Monthly mags, for instance, but I'll see if I can have another look just in "case".

Perhaps not the best chemically but I purchased a few spaghetti clear containers called K-tool super pack from the 123 Dollar shops about 4 years ago. These had the right cross section and were a foot long so could hold about 30 items, Another words a fatter version of the cardboard boxes for the 2x2s The trouble is I have never seen these again! as I'd like some more.

What are the dimensions of the plastic cases in question? Are they virtually the same as cardboard flips, but thicker?

I bought back from last visit to Malaysia the large cardboard flips, to suit up to 40mm dia coins, easily take the crown size coins and also bought the album pages for these flips to sit into.Quite cheap to purchase from there.

They're 63mm x 63mm and are about 7mm thick.

Tony Grant supplies good, firm plastic boxes (like the old slide containers) for 2x2s - I wonder if they're also available in 2.5-inch size, as that would do the job nicely.

I agree ~ guess who originally advised me to do this? Usually this works but not always. That's the trouble on TM in that we often bid against each other. Now if there was a cartel ..... I don't like those 2x2 plastic containers. Leon Morel had piles of boxes made up from heavy cardboard for his medals and coins and these worked a treat ( I'm going back in time).
I can't remember if these were home made or if these were done at the cardboard factory.
