154 | hi pommyjohn I make my own gf pies in pie tins I bought off here as the pie makers are quite small - they turn out very well! I use an old alison holst recipe for the pastry along with Horley pastry flour, can post the recipe of you like :) bowd - 2008-11-24 20:37:00 |
155 | melford the arnotts rice cookies arent gf, only wheat free. They use to be marketed as gf until the new laws came in and it was discovered they are only low gluten - check out the packet as it doesnt say gluten free on it anymore - ony wheat free. bowd - 2008-11-24 20:40:00 |
156 | yes I realise that bowd - their website states that the rice cookies are made on a production line that also makes wheat based biscuits. The packet however states that there is less than 0.002g gluten in each serving which consists 3 biscuits. We are lucky in that we have had no reaction to it but I guess some people need to be aware of this - thank you for pointing it out nanee2jlp - 2008-11-24 22:27:00 |

160 | I see herika has had a field day with my post about arnotts rice crackers - once again I think she is overreacting! They have 0.002 mg PER 3 Biscuits. Since I am continuously having my hand smacked by the "guru" of gluten free eating i won't be contributing to this thread anymore. I will just leave it to herika "the expert" nanee2jlp - 2008-11-25 11:34:00 |

169 | thank you for the support. I am frustrated by herikas obsession with the gluten free diet (she may need to be for her own health) but she has set herself up as an unqualified expert on this subject - she is not even coeliac (far more severe than someone who is gluten intolerant), and indeed she was diagnosed by a medical herbalist not a medical specialist. She makes rash statements eg buckwheat causes da da de da in some people, msg is bad for you etc, in fact most of her posts condemn any food that is mentioned by other posters. My information from the hospital is that they are perfectly okay. I am concerned that her posts may cause unecessary concern in many people and will restrict their diet even more. nanee2jlp - 2008-11-26 14:23:00 |
170 | Whistle? I saw on the previous page a pst that mentioned getting a subsidy from Winz for help with food, can u please explain this more? Also, i am still to go to a specialist after having been on his semi urgent waiting list since july... is there any other way of getting a prescription through pharmacy for GF pasta and rice flour? Also just a personal question: is there anyone else out there who is either gluten intolerent or coeliac who suffers from the defieciencies of iron and b12 and also had problems at the beginning with urinary tract infections? briz12 - 2008-11-26 14:55:00 |

174 | hell yeah on the low levels thats actually a sign of a food intolerance having low levels of iron especially and especially if you can't bring them up. what happens is you have these little fingers that absorb nutrients from your food. when you eat something your body doesnt like the fingers get inflammed and swollen and cant absorb any of the good stuff all that energy from food gone!! also on the end of those fingers is where the digestive enzyme is created to digest dairy so therfore you make the dairy tolerance problem worse to! probiotics ( dairy free if needed) and also slippery elm help grow them back. fantastic stuff to help you feel better faster. also aloe vera juice ( good quality) will help line the tummy and bring down bloating. also do a parasite cleanse as in a stufy they conducted over 50% of irritable bowel sufferers had parasites. you can do this with malcom harkers verm expel. always good to detox to. you can have up to 7kgs of meat still sitting there! maxamissy - 2008-11-27 07:59:00 |
175 | im waiting to detox as my body is going through withdrawls from sugar and caffeine my legs ache like crazy normally the 3rd and 4th day is the worst that was definitley that case with me. ( for those who dot know im dairy free sugar free caffeine free and gluten free not forever though !) maxamissy - 2008-11-27 08:01:00 |
176 | claiming costs go to your doctor get a medical report stating u have it then with a list of difference of costs take that to winz. example cost of ord, bread then cost of gluten free bread and other food whistle - 2008-11-27 08:01:00 |

178 | britz Re prescription for gluten free pasta and flour, I get all mine on prescription but find that the difference in cost is now negligeable.Often I find that the supermarket Simple brand is less than I pay at the chemist. pommyjohn1 - 2008-11-27 08:20:00 |
179 | maxamissy We can do this together hun,I have tried and tried to get off caffiene,I made it,but this eek have ben so stressed out with my doctor, had to change my doctor,he said you get off caffeine, and anything made with white flour sugar ect,so am going to wait until sat,my day off. earthangel4 - 2008-11-27 09:31:00 |

184 | New gluten free product and it is delicious Vogels Cafe-Style Light Toasted Muesli. No gluten, no wheat used in their recipe and they take the greatest of care in processing but it is processed in an environment which also produces wheat and gluten containing cereals. We had no reaction. nanee2jlp - 2008-11-28 16:49:00 |
185 | melford... that vogels muesli is apparently very yummy according to hubby - he mixes it with the simple muesli as well to make it go further. ok pastry recipe for those who wanted it......1 1/2 cups bakels pastry flour, 1 tsp salt, 75 gms butter (or marg) and 5-6 tablespoons of water. Cut the butter into the flour and salt until it resembles breadcrumbs, add the water a bit at a time until you have the pastry consistency, put aside for 5 mins in a cool place and then knead in a bit of the bakels flour. I roll this out on baking paper and then lay the pie tin over the top and flip it as it is still a bit fragile. This is the best pastry I have found so far for making savoury pies. To cook, bake at 220 deg cel for 15 min and then reduce temp to 180 for 30 mins or until golden brown, but keep an eye on it as it can cook quite quickly :) bowd - 2008-11-28 19:05:00 |
186 | hi bowd - strange you should post that pastry it is similar to mine which is 1 1/2 cups Bakels Gluten free Flour, 3 tsps GF baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 4 tbsp olivani or butter, 5 tbsp water. Method; rub olivani/butter into flour (sift so you get volume) add water just until it clings together. Place in the fridge for 15 minutes then roll out and line a 9' pie plate.Brush top with beaten egg. Bake 225 degrees 15 minutes This pastry holds together well and does not crumble and it browns nicely nanee2jlp - 2008-11-28 20:36:00 |
