Thanks Rebel, now I have to go out and buy some lighter fluid as I don't smoke :-)
Anything else lighter fluid is useful for ? other than lighting things that is.

Use it as a watermark detector on mint and uhm stamps.Put the stamp face down on a black surface and give the back of the stamp a squirt. It wont harm the Gum .

I have an album of sets of stamps mainly Flowers, Birds. Butterflies. Sports, Fish, Boats, Insects etc. They are in excellent condition and correctly mounted mainly from the 1950s. My Father was a very keen Philatilist and these were puchased for me from the Circut Book that he used to receive in the mail when I was a child. They are complete sets. I also have quite a few First Day Covers from the 1950/60s. As no one in my family are interest in these. I am thinking of selling them. Where would be the best place to find their value? Or would they be worth anything at all? They are all in excellent condition. Many thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

Hi Dave it may be interesting to develop a father/son interest by starting a little specific collection. Perhaps you could develop an interest in NZ KG6, 1960 pictorials or to be daring Fiji KG6. None of these are trashy and would allow a good introduction without costing the earth. Just a thought.

Hi all.

Does this justify any debate, as it is a collectable ?

It shouldn't happen. Would have been better to ignore and the stamps would be all used up soon.

Appart from the reason for the issue, to be first accepted and then to be retracted is strange.
Even more astonishing is the method of obliterating the issue with air mail stickers on mail.

Surely an issue unobliterated will command the top Dollar, a collectors item to look out for.

philafarinz - 2009-10-26 16:19:00

It appears only the international use is obliterated. there are very few used this way so any getting back to NZ will be even less. I would say any international usage, obliterated or not, are rare and very collectable. An obliterated cover with a little of the airmail sticker peeled back to show the stamp underneath would be very collectable. In fact I would say that any international cover stamped with multiple copies of one design CAL would be rare and very collectable. There are still UPU issues here. We must not forget that the $2·50 cat issue will be one of the rarer ones with only 250 issued in 2009. So any block or usage in 2009 is very desirable.

I agree warm. The censored ones are going to be just as collectable as the ones that get through the system.
Does lighter fluid lift the airmail sticker a little bit, without harming the stamp underneath ?

Thanks for an "interesting" thread. I have recently joined the local stamp club and I was stunned to find I am the youngest there. (In my late 30's). Oh and mostly men. Is this common all over NZ?
Can some kind person also please tell me where I can buy an alternative post catalogue from? I have access to a website but would find a hard copy useful. Thank you to all contributors to this thread as your advice and wisdom is often read by this novice collector.

1819 Yes. I have noticed a lot of men are in stamp clubs , but ladies are starting to join in.
There are many alternative mail lists, collectors make themselves,including.. nzm, petes post, cal's, universal mail etc, but I am not aware of one catalogue that covers them all.

Hi. I was wondering if anybody had any information on this catalog? It is 'a 'Heitmann's Postage Stamp Album' I think it is dated 1841 as President Harrison is the US President (and he lasted less than a year). It has stamps from all over the world and I have posted some pics to help. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Was left to me from an old estate. Regards.

1828 Quite an old album you have there cas40. Shame about all the brown spots ( toning ) on the pages.Mind you, the adson stamps in the glassine envelope could be good ones, and the 6d NZ Express Delivery one looks ok, you might even have the miss-spelled Wakitipu one too.Others might see more items of interest in there as well.

SLOW POST
I have just had a letter to Tauranga take 14 days to arrive, sent from Christchurch. I did expect that mail would take longer with Labour weekend but I think that this is crazy. Are others experiencing these sort of delays now that NZ Post no longer clears mail on a Saturday?

What you do now is, keep them for the next Valentines Day, put a drop of your best perfume on a piece of paper and send it to your 3rd child next year with the rose stamps.

Does anyone know how exactly I can get Seven Seas missing pages for their albums. I have bought two empty albums off TM taking me up to 1991 and I would like to buy more albums to get me up to the present as well as fill some gaps. As a rank amateur in the collecting stakes I enjoy having everything in order helped by the pictures!!
I emailed their Australian website but got no reply so wondered if they were still in business
