I spent $109 so less than a full shop very happy

Afternoon all. another very quiet day here. Nothing done, but that doesn't matter.
Although I do wish vacuum cleaners came with their own pushers lol.. The floor needs doing but I would just end up a coughing heap on the floor.
Nothing I eat tastes of anything today, that's funny.... but I eat to take pills.

Our shopping used to be about $350 a fortnight when mum was here. she paid for the food, we paid everything else. she had expensive tastes lol I can generally get away with $100 a week, and a meat shop every so often. We don't eat as much as we used to , so that's a bonus.

I see Deramores has a big sale... I have to forgo that one. Haven't had any sales lately so have to be good.
Hope I feel better tomorrow, its starting to annoy the heck out of me

Happy knitting everyone..

well I didn't get any sewing done but the doggy jacket is all cut out - had to cut one piece out twice lol as the Furry One jumped up at the table, grabbed it and took off outside. By the time I got it off him it was chewed. The look on his face was priceless - well it IS mine lol. Shouldn't laugh but he has such a sweet face I just can't help it! Shouldn't take too long to sew tomorrow. MrK even found some velcro (where he found it I have no idea!) so I don't have to buy any. Amazing the stuff you have stashed away :P
happy knitting :)

morning ladies :) The sewing machine never made it out but the jacket is cut and ready to sew. Had friends visit and by the time I finished housework it was mid afternoon so flagged it for the day. Will try and get it done today.
Hope everyone is on the mend, popeye you sounded really miserable yesterday on the boards.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,

Yeah I was yesterday Kiwimade. I was over this horrible bug thing. Worn out from coughing, couldn't taste, smell or hear things. The nose is a little clearer this morning, finally.
Taste is pretty much the same. I will say one advantage was being able to change the litter box without smelling a thing lol.
The rattles in the chest are in one spot now, and near the top so hopefully Ill manage to clear it
I will try and knit today to take my mind off things, but I wouldn't guarantee anything gets done.
If the house wasn't full of bugs Id ask a friend to come vacuum for me. The floor is a mess and I discovered that Bob brought a bird in yesterday. It must have been hiding in the corner under the rocking chair all day., it was cold but still alive. so have put it outside. But there are of course a few feathers laying around. Normally he makes a real show of getting a bird but we didn't even know, and he never went near it during the day.

But I guess since we have banished visitors cos we don't want anyone else to get sick, it doesn't matter if the floor waits cos no one will see it.

Have a good day all.

your bob sounds like our Lucy. I hate birds and feathers so Mr T cleans it up. my mouth feels good now the bone has gone, did vacuming yesterday and broke the hand off Mr T dresser .have grandie today ,

Afternoon all. Lovely sunshine outside and the windows have been thrown open and fresh air filling our lungs. I just realized this morning I now have 3 projects on the go, and no idea where to find the time to finish them all. Though school is back on Monday so might just enjoy my week of silence and get stuck in. The kids and I are off to Chch on the 6th for a holiday. Costs a small fortune to get off the island and back so usually when islanders take a trip it is 4-6wks long. No idea how long we will be away for at this stage. Just keeping it open until we get there and work out what we want to do and who we can get to visit.

morning all. going to buy a set of plastic drawers for the wool I have in boxes, so I can see what I have got, the jumper I knitted K was too short in arm leinght so will have to make next one longer .why do kids grow so fast or is granny not reading the tape right

carolev - 2013-07-28 06:50:00
1811

Morning
Carolev I did the same with latest jersey for nephew - made the body a bit short - means he will only get less time wearing it unfortunately.
Dwebbie hope you find the time to complete the projects - exciting have a holiday to look forward to especially when it can be flexible.
Popeye keep on with getting better so you can get back to the knitting - vacuuming can always wait the dirt won't go anyway is my theory lol!

Frost is lifting so I had better get on with things have a couple of things on the needles so want to get on with them later today. Took a 6yr old to the park yesterday and so took my knitting to do while watching her in the playground found that a circular needle is easier to carry in my little backpack than regular needles, a young couple were fascinated watching me I was just using up left over wool with a baby beanie.

morning :) I did pop in earlier but found it too hard to type with the Furry One wanting his morning cuddles and scratches on my knee. I'll have another attempt at making his doggy jacket (buggar about the Crusaders!) and my nieghbour also wants to borrow the pattern for her friends dog. I finished the onsie for Maddy yesterday afternoon and last night knitted the matching hat so I'll post pics of them later. I found some pearl type buttons to sew on so it looks 'girly' in spite of being a buttery cream colour.
Hope everyone is on the mend who is sick... reading about knitting being too short has reminded me I must remember to have daughter take measurements for knitting (and sewing) when Maddy is older. She isn't even born yet and I'm thinking ahead lol.
Happy knitting:)

Morning everyone... Stupid computer has been playing up. Its moody like my mood today. Running on very little sleep, if I wasn't coughing MrP was. had to sit up all night to sleep.
I have done over 12 inches on the cardy. And did a few rows on the blanket last night. The brain is obviously sick too and wont connect with the hands.

Have a lady coming to pick a couple of sales up, otherwise I think id go back to bed and try and get some sleep.

Have a good day all.

Wondered if any one can tell me, I am back to crotcheting after a very long break, started with granny squares, question is will two strands of four ply equal one of double knit, so that I get the same size squares. If anyone can tell me I'd appreciate it. Cheers and have a great afernoon

Yes, should do, although there is often a very slight variation between even 8 plys, but I've often used two strands of 4 ply in place of 8. Usually works out close enough.

kuaka - 2013-07-28 15:45:00

yep, I'm knitting two lots of 4ply together as I need double knit (8ply) and I don't have enough 8ply to knit what I want. It's a pain to knit though but it's one way to use my stash of 4ply :)

Morning everyone. I think I may have crossed the bridge and onto the side of improving, slowly. MrP however is in the very heavy day and not in the best mood. Will be a trying day.
I will knit today, and tread very carefully.

Morning girls, I sat up watching telly and finish Miss D jacket just got to sew it up and knit the hat. when my kids where school age I knitted the each a cardy in 2 colours of 4 ply together they came out great j was pink and light blue, R was dark blue and red, Troy's was brown and cream and Trudy's was green and yellow. put a zip up the front was 1 lot of things the did wear, this has sent my mind back 40 years to when Bob first left me , the kids looked cold so some kind lady gave me a big bag of purple wool. my kids had jumpers for school . if you can knit you will never have cold kids. we have fog so might go back to bed and sew up jacket and start hat.

carolev - 2013-07-29 08:18:00
1819

morning ladies :) what a pea souper of a fog, so thick I can't see across the road. Might plant some plants later so will be outside. The weather doesn't stop me from gardening - I just wrap up warm and by the time I have weeded or dug I'm toasty warm (have even gardened in a cyclone once as it was the only day for a month before I could get back out there lol)
happy knitting :)

So who wants to come clean my house? lol. I just can't be bothered. Sun is now shining but the wind is blowing so I suspect it is a bit chilly out.

I tided up my wool corner again last night and printed out more patterns. Damn red heart website has a lot to answer to grrrr.

Hope you all have a great day and bugs and ills disappear quickly to those who are still unwell

How frustrating Popeye - hope you are feeling a bit better each day now.

Had a busy day sorting out my spare room - despite the best of intentions it becomes a dumping ground for all sorts of things and when it gets too bad I have a great tidy-up but somehow one thing leads to another so the room is still not finished but several other odd jobs have been done instead and made a lovely decadent slice (apricots, nuts, chopped white chocolate etc) which I will have to hide in the freezer so it won't disappear too fast!
Got a few rows of knitting done and hope to do more this evening, am knitting a baby carry and did quite a bit last evening.

I am home now, my DR sent me to the hospital to have 250mil of strong antibioctic , lets hope this fixes my bladder . sound like you need to see my DR popeye

carolev - 2013-07-29 22:05:00
1824

Morning all.
The dr we saw yesterday is one I wouldn't take out cat to. he sent me for xrays and scans on my sore arm, and it turned out to be my heart valve causing the heart attack type pain in my arm.
I couldn't even look at him. But we had to see someone. Even tho he did nothing.
the inhaler and duro-tuss have helped, I slept well last night. Have just dosed us both up.
Ouchies Carole bladder stuff is nasty, hope it will improve.
Managed to get to the armhole yesterday on the back of MrPs cardy. Been a slow knit cos of being sick. The wool is a bit on the thin side, but it still looks nice.
Yum Jayemtoo that slice sounds good... no wonder you have hidden it. It wouldn't last long here either lol

Have a good day all

popeye we had a Dr like that here but he did a midnight flit . I have had this bladder infection for 18 months now taken lots of different pills but nothing worked . I have e.s.b.l. Klebsiella what every that is.

carolev - 2013-07-30 08:51:00
1826

I wish this dr would do a flit Carolev. He also told me once I had gardeners back. Which didn't improve, (he didn't give me anything, not even pain killers).
I saw another dr who sent me to an orthopaedic specialist. Who promptly hit the roof that I hadn't even been sent for xrays. Had them done and he was stunned. I don't have cartiledge in the lower 5 vertebrae of my spine. He said I had the back of a 65 yr old, I was about 44-45 at that stage.
When I had mu fall last july landing on my tailbone, I made an appointment to see the specialist. Cos the dr I saw was also pretty useless, and when he asked why I hadn't had xrays, he said out loud, why are they doing this to you again.
Thankfully we have a lot of drs here. But it was only that it was urgent I had to see the quack yesterday. Ive heard of other people having close shaves with their health like me

how longs he been there I would complain to medical council if I was you.

carolev - 2013-07-30 19:27:00
1828

don't get me started on doctors. I've been lucky I think, as I have generally had pretty good doctors (except the one who asked me how long I'd been unconscious when I collapsed and was helicoptered to Auckland hosp), but hubby (who hates doctors) seems to have had a run of dodgy ones - he uses a different med centre to me. He had some medication a while back and he just got worse and worse, and eventually when he was just feeling lousy all the time and barely able to get out of bed in the morning and stagger to the chair, I looked them up on the internet and it said - amongst other things - to be used with caution/should not be given to: the elderly, anyone who has had a stroke, asthmatics, high cholesterol (all of which means he should never have been given them, so he stopped taking the tabs and suddenly started to improve - grrrrrrrrr!)

kuaka - 2013-07-30 20:17:00

I had a quack one a few years back he had been strack off but aloud back all he did was scratch his balls that put me right off him fast. my new DR is ok I think

It's partly overcast here today but not as cold as yesterday, I've put the heat pump on instead of lighting the fire. Might go to the local stitch and bitch session this morning if I can get organised in time, and if hubby doesn't have other plans. I will decide once he's up meantime I might just do a few rows of knitting. Don't know what yet, but I've got several things on the go, so maybe, just maybe, I should try to finish something.

kuaka - 2013-07-31 08:12:00

good on you seafield, I've just finished knitting a wee cardy using two strands of 4ply and it worked out fine. Was a pain though as I was knitting two strands but overall I was happy with it.
I felt the urge to knit pink and lace so have begun a wee (0-3 months) cardy for our future grandy, once I'm back into the swing of lace I might start another matinee set. Also have some gorgeous wee booties to crochet and knit.
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
The odd thing about this dr was he came recommended. Both the best drs we have had are Poms and both called Mark.
Kiwimade that cream cardy you made is lovely... especially with the roses added for a bit of detail.
Still plodding away on the Back of MrPs cardy. but its getting smaller lol. decreasing every second row now so it will shrink pretty smartly. Did a little on my blanket last night.
No fog today and quite mild. Still coughing and a headache but it is easing.

Have a good day all

Good morning
most unusual for us we had quite a heavy fog this am but the sun is trying to get through now.
Feeling very self righteous this am as went to aquarobics at 9am and I am not really a morning person. Usually go in the evenings but had to look after miss 7 yesterday so couldn't go. Took her to her swimming lesson yesterday and knitted some of the socks which I am currently doing (well one of the 3 projects I have on the go at the moment) it seemed a waste of time just to sit and watch 4 small girls splash up and down the pool trying to swim.
When I was a child you saw women knitting where ever you went and they had a bit of time to fill in but not now - probably says something about our buy ready-made society. Haven't quite been game to knit in a meeting yet.
Keep the needles clicking everyone and have a great day.

Yay have finally finished the back of the cardy. Looks like its going to be plenty long enough, which is good cos it has to go round a big tummy.

My throat is getting sore again, grr... wish it would just go away. lol.

I hope everyone has had a fab day.

That sounds lovely, we seem to get boy after boy in our family, and the two girls that have appeared, their parents don't like knitted clothing (sigh), they prefer that you give them money. I loved dressing my baby boy in knitted jackets /booties / hats and did so until he started school when peer pressure took over. Have quite a few for the grandies to arrive so hope that the future daughter in law will like knitted clothes.

Popeye. When I get a sore throat I rub some teatree oil on my neck on the glands and it really helps to cure it. I put a generous amount on. And I rub it across my forehead. It helps to kill the bugs from the outside and the smell of it helps to kill the bugs too. Good luck. Hope you get better soon.

Not sure about tea treet oil, MrP has an ultra sensistive nose. We cant do vicks cos of it.
Ive been changing the air in the house and making sure it doesn't get damp and mouldy. Even if we freeze for an hour or so lol

I started the ribbing of the front last night so that's not going to take as long, half the amount of stitches few lol.

Shopping this morning. Then home to hang close cos the electrician has to come and check the lights in the kitchen they are doing silly things again.

omgg I am soo excited lol - can't wait!
Morning ladies. Sorry to hear you had a crap night Carole. I'm supposed to be out for morning tea this morning but MrK pointed out to me my WOF was overdue (arrgggg!!) when he checked the oil and water in my car. Silly thing is I knew it was coming up and had the windscreen replaced (big chip) so it wouldn't fail the warrant. Duh!!! I think this lack of working is doing my head in and I'm forgetting stuff.
Have some unpicking to do today, that will teach me to knit late when I'm tired. I've also started crocheting some booties - been a long time since I have crocheted let alone with a 1.25mm hook. There was also a link to a bag (sewing) on the MB the other day and it reminded me I had the same link in my favourites as I thought it could be useful as a bag for our daughter. I remember all the 'stuff' I carried around when the kids were small lol. So I have found some pretty fabric and will dig out some elastic and thread. MrK may have some D rings for the handles somewhere I can use. If not, I'll find something.
Happy knitting and creating :)

Good morning all
oh Popeye what a time you are having with your poor throat hope it improves very soon.
Hope you can have a relaxing day carolev after a bad night
Frustrating Kiwimade re the wof - I got mine last week only a day late!

My new interchangeable needles arrived this am and they are wonderful, only one little problem as they sent me 2 pairs of 3.50mm instead of another size - hopefully Deramores will get that sorted for me as I emailed them straight away.
I am supposedly mowing the lawn before the weather changes but have ended up sorting out needles and trying out the new ones and they are so smooth and easy to use. Now I have discovered circular knitting and especially magic loop I tend to use a lot less needles.- have a pile of all shapes and sizes which I think will have to go to the charity shop now.

Oh well have to be strong and get outside at least the sun is out at the moment and the sooner I finish there the sooner I can get back to playing with the knitting.

OMG Kiwimade that would be like crocheting with a darning needle lol.. I got a couple of old Bazzarr pattern books in the mail this morning. I knew this would happen. Mum sold everything and I didn't get to keep the old bazzarr books. so slowly getting them off here.
And inside the back cover of one is what the Book calls jack and jill dolls which are just round cylinders with a top and bottom, hair and a face. We called them Gonks and were the first thing we knitted lol.. It also has the Golly pattern I should have kept but happy to have back again.

I was norty at the supermarket, got this cute 2 tier cake plate, but they are only mini. Max would hold 4-5 savouries or small bits of cake on the bottom and 3 at a push 4 on the top. Im going to knit some flowers and fruit and decorate them as a table centrepiece, eventually

I am sooo easily distracted! I should be mowing lawns too jayemtoo as it is going to rain (only mowed them last week but ommgg they have grown quickly) but ended up making some lemon curd(honey) as my sister gave me a huge bag of lemons. While looking for some pretty fabric I found just enough of one piece to make a knitting bag for me. So I've been drawing patterns and sewing this morning. Still have a bit to do, found some pretty braid to stitch on it too so will keep going after I've finished my lunch.
Will unpick my knitting later and do a bit more of these crochet booties.
Happy knitting :)

oohhhh Carole! I love it when ideas come together! I'm knitting a wee cardy for our grandy sized 0-3 months and can't believe how quickly it knits lol... it's so tiny. Even MrK has commented on how small it looks.
We phoned our son and he's OK in Wellington, the aftershocks have him a tad on edge though. Can't help but worry about the kids, heaven help me when he goes overseas lol.
Housework today - the Furry One has shredded one of his toys so there is toy stuffing from one end of the living room to the other - have a pig to pick up from the butcher all ready for the freezer, then I'll knit another front to this cardy.
Happy knitting:)
