donaldo, from what I can remember, these sheets were withdrawn, and substituted immediately with correct sheets. I am sure there is something to do with colour on one of the pictures, but it is all so long ago. I contacted the lady in the Post Office who suggested I buy a sheet, and she bought one too, but she sold hers ages ago and now can't remember. That is interesting that there are no recorded flaws, maybe I won't be making a lot of money after all!!!

As you are a stamp dealer perhaps you should be abiding by your code of ethics and reporting him/her instead of encouraging them in selling an illegal item.

I would like to put my NZ stamps in an album similar to the Premier ones, but I think they may be a bit too expensive for me. Does anyone know if there is a similar type of album available but not so costly?

Thank you for your suggestion, I was thinking more of one that has the illustrations for the stamps. Maybe I'll have to save my pennies if I want to do it properly!

Try Don White (Dunedin City Stamps)Google is your friend. He has an updated price list and is very aprochable .Other than that Kadine stamps can auction the Bernie Styrus wages Tax Catalougue for you but it is pricey, this would be the most up to date and comprehensive one around. Most of the value is in 1944 the 4d and 8d and the 1943 0n 1941 Provisionals.

At the risk of making things worse, could the coin club fights be taken back to the coin club please? (or even better, just deal with things in person since you all have each others' contact details). Particularly those of you who do not even have an interest in Stamp Collecting. This thread has been a haven for genuine collectors chat for a year now and it would be a shame for it to go the same way as the coin thread because a group of 'adults' can't keep their bickering in one place.

Well said metcalfj and donaldo
Flower1 you could use those plain graph like sheets of paper to hinge stamps onto, and use stamp catalogue pages as your guide perhaps.
Catalogues are often in trademe auctions quite cheap.

I have been going through my late father's belongings and have found a set of five stamps in a brown folder. It is Captain Cook's Bicentenary 1770-1970 and each of the stamps tells a story of when he discovered the east coast of Australia. Can anyone tell me if they are worth anything please. Many thanks.

Actually we don't have a Philatelic Bureau. NZ Post have a stamps and collectables mail order branch situated in Wanganui (or Whanganui) and two (Shortly to be 3) souvenir shops branded "Real Aotearoa" which sell stamps in a back corner of their shops.

Re age of collectors. i'm not so worried about the age of collectors as I am about the numbers. these days people live a lot longer and have a retirement often lasting 30 years and sometimes longer. Last year I purchased a stamp collection (336 albums) from the estate of a 86 year old stamp collector who had been an active club member until 3 years previously. Stamps and her family kept her actively involved. our Stamp club in Christchurch has more members now than we have ever had (and more attending meetings) but i know this is often not the case elsewhere where many clubs get too elitist. For me I've had the bussiest and the best year in 30 years full time dealing. I guess a positive attitude also helps.

The ACS stamp catalogue will continue to be published under new ownership. Nigel Shanks told me at TIMPEX that the 2010 edition will be out in December. Pricing done by David Holmes will be more sensible and reflect actual market values rather than the previous years inflated prices. many of the Cinderella listings will de deleted as they are intending to produce a separate NZ Revenues and cinderella catalogue hopefully next year. this is long overdue with the current Heslop Cinderella catalogue woefully out of date.

I have an album of sets of stamps mainly Flowers, Birds. Butterflies. Sports, Fish, Boats, Insects etc. They are in excellent condition and correctly mounted mainly from the 1950s. My Father was a very keen Philatilist and these were puchased for me from the Circut Book that he used to receive in the mail when I was a child. They are complete sets. I also have quite a few First Day Covers from the 1950/60s. As no one in my family are interest in these. I am thinking of selling them. Where would be the best place to find their value? Or would they be worth anything at all? They are all in excellent condition. Many thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

Thanks Steven. It would be good for the Heslop to be expanded with information and the listings bought up to date with new discoveries. This would give it more weight which it deserves as a reference. Many collectors first thought that it was a method for dealers to keep the market prices up. I wish the authors well.

Great to see the positive attitude and congratulations on your most succesfull year in stamp retailing. It is not all doom and gloom ,sometimes it is better to look at a glass as half full rather than half empty.

Try Lighter Fluid it can remove the gum in some cases. Then soak off the stamp.Regards Paul.
