I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

I would be happy to buy one carolev but will need to get hold of the wool for the shawl first so that I can do a tension square to work out the size needed..in meantime will continue enjoying knitting my wee garments :)

no thanks carol, don't need circulars :).
The lace was knitted seperatly to the main piece and was a prize pain in the butt to knit but that could just be me as so many repititions was doing my head in lol. I sewed the lace to the edge and sewed in the centre circle. I'm happy to help if needed and there are lots of others here who have knitted more shawls than me so their advice would be useful too.

It is truly beautiful Kiwimade. I don't think I would have the patience to knit one. Although I have plenty of patience for other things.
I sent what circular needles I had to a friend in Taranaki, she uses them for everything.

Have done a bit of MrPs cardy. Its nice not having to concentrate for a change. And measured the first strip of my blanket, I have 13cms left on the first piece. Its been a bit put aside in the last couple of weeks.
The fog has lifted which is good.

Awww that shawl is gorgeous! What wool ply did you use kiwimade? I knitted one for my grandson for when he was born but it is just a small one for him to be wrapped in. It was so much damn work concentrating, and I went through so much yarn that I couldn't be bothered doing it bigger lol. But that one you made is just stunning!

I hope all of you affected by that nasty quake yesterday are all ok and things settle down asap.

dwebble - 2013-07-22 12:58:00

it's 2ply dwebble knitted on 4mm needles. Took five 50g balls so was quite deceptive when it came to yardage. I think it was because the main piece was knitted over 120 stitches but didn't complete the rows, you turned and went back. Then the last two rows of the repeat was two complete rows. So you knitted a curve which eventually you stitched together to form a circle.

Thats definitely not a lot of balls of wool, kiwimade. I used like 9 or more for the blanket I made for my grandson and it was just a cuddle one. But I used bamboo yarn from Spotlight. It was called layette and was a pistachio colour. Felt like it took forever and ever and ever..... lol

I knowww dwebble, this shawl was very economical with yarn. And it felt like I was knitting forever too lol, garter stitch grrr lol.
I've started a onsie for baby but I'm not sure I like it now I have the back done. Too late now, I'll keep going and finish it :).
Happy knitting :)

I gave in and called the chemist. Cos I have to be carefull at what I can take cos of the stupid warfarin. Anyway the cruxt of it all they said anything that will coat my throat, will help supress the coughing tickle. So Ive just gone and got some sugar free lollies. Just as dear as cough lollies but I hate menthol etc And they all have sugar in them.
Ive had one and it is good so far.

I remember in the late 70;s mum giving me throat pastilles, from a little white tin. Cos even back then I couldn't handle menthol or even the taste of throaties.
So hopefully it will help prevent so much coughing. And not put my sugars up.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that, I've got the big 65 coming up next month and I'm wondering if he will remember - funny but 3 months ago he was telling me it was only 12 weeks till my birthday and when I asked why, he counted out the months till July. I commented that my birthday is still in August, always has been, probably always will be. He looked somewhat surprised. Probably because he's looking forward to a pay rise when I finally get my own pension. For my 60th he bought me a lovely grapefruit tree and a lovely carrot cake, all beautifully decorated (he bought it from the bakery) and it was yummy. There was something else but I can't remember what it was - might have been a mandarin tree as well. Birthdays since then have been non-events! Mind you last year I was sick in bed with a sore throat and heavy cold.

I have been with Mr T for 31 birthdays and Christmas and he has NEVER bought me any thing some times he wishes me happy birthday but mostly he dose not, his birthday is 6th Aug,. I am looking forward to getting my own money, 1 wage is hard going , any way today I feel much happier going off to spotlight to buy wool

Morning ladies. Happy belated birthday for yesterday carolev. Sorry you got nothing. I hear ya though, my hubby is much the same. Those occasions mean nothing to him so usually I go without unless the kids are up in his grill and then he does it begrudgingly. I hope your trip to spotlight is a glimmer of silver lining on things :-) My birthday is next month too, as is his, so will be interesting to see how this year goes.

Popeye, I so feel for ya with the sore throat thing going on. My thing all through my youth was tonsilitis. Still get it now and again, but in several years thankfully. I was forever in agony and living on painkillers and antibiotics. Nothing worse than a sore throat. Well there is, but you know what I mean lol.

Gosh wasn't it great news to hear a royal baby boy was born yesterday? And a good size too for a first baby.

Not a nice day here today. Totally covered in pea soup fog, and that mist that falls with it. Strangely not cold inside, but the kids are hunkered down under blankets watching cartoons. I am contemplating what I can make today. My daughter in Aussie sent me a case full of crochet hooks in all manner of sizes so thinking I need to christen them with a project, though had had been craving lately to get back into knitting so hmmmm....

Have a great day all.

Morning All...MrP always wishes me a happy birthday etc. But has never brought me anything... Cos I buy it for myself. He doesn't like to have money on him. So I chose what I want and get it without guilt.
I think that stems from the day we brought my wedding ring. He went to the ATM, no eftpos in those days and he couldn't remember his pin number and was really embarrassed.
So Ladies buy yourself something you want, and tell those men, Thank you.
I managed to finish my first strip of my blanket last night, finally.

Throat and cough still nasty, but it does help coating it. The ribs are sore now arghhh.....I guess I can be thankfull that other than a headache I don't have a stuffed nose or sinus along with it.

Have a good day all

morning :) Have had a mad panic and omgg I mean panic!! Bloody Novapay!!!!!! omgg I can't believe they stuffed up my pay - was paid the princely sum of $1 for a days relieving. Thank goodness we have a fantastic relationship with our bank and they were understanding. I was physically shaking when I saw it! How a payroll company is allowed to keep doing this beggars belief!
That's my rant, sorry about that!
It's a miserable day here, good excuse to knit or sew :) Hope everyone who is sick is on the mend.
Happy knitting :)

Ohh wow Kiwimade, that whole system is a mess eh.. Hope they can sort it fast for you.
They should let a woman sort out a new way to pay the wages... it will work properly that way.
Its a good feeling when you get your first pension carol... Freedom is what we felt. I still work weekly tho, cos it would have cost a fortune to change all the APs.
Have done a little bit of knitting. Not bothered by it at the mo tho

Well the baby has been named, I like the name George, a nice strong name.
Foggy as heck here, a real pea souper. Have a few things to do around the house today so will get it all done before starting the second sleeve on this onsie. Still not sure I like it though.
Happy knitting :)

Morning all
Home again from shaky old Wellington - felt the big one alright but didn't really feel the smaller ones. Told I shouldn't go to Wellington again as last time I was there they had the storm and this time the 'quake! to make things worse my computer packed a real "sad" and wouldn't work for a couple of days it's ok again now.
Belated birthday greetings carolev - the best present for a 65 is the gold card - free bus rides to town and other little perks.
Despite my best intentions came home with more wool must stop looking in wool shops and finding bargains :)
Now must get the washing on as have a pile to be done after being away.

Just read a few more of the previous posts
Hope you are feeling brighter again popeye I agree with carolev as to the benefits of codeine for a cough I take one paracetamol/codeine tab. and stops the cough for quite a while and much easier than cough mixtures.
What a mess that pay system is Kiwimade hope it gets sorted quickly for you - how frustrating.
Well managed to do a pair of socks while away and now having to decide what pattern to make next, need to do more baby things for niece due in October.

Had my worst day yesterday. Today I feel calm, not coughing quite as much and the rawness has gone off my throat. but I woke with a temp. and even water tastes terrible. And why do womens bladders have to be so useless lol.
MrP is on his worst day like I had yesterday.
I kinda feel like a calm has come over me.
Been taking codeine and panadol. And sucking sugar free lollies to coat my throat.
Have to go do my INR bloods this morning and get groceries and rego my friends dog for her.
Have a good day all

Wow I never knew doing the shopping could take so much out of you lol..
But I got it done and put away. couldn't be bothered scanning it. Naughty lol... But it doesn't hurt to do that once ina blue moon. (I scan for AC Neilson).
A quiet afternoon is in order for us both now.

popeye333 - 2013-07-25 12:27:00

What's all this "scanning for AC Neilson" eh popeye ??

We had to go through to Whangarei hosp this morning as he had to see an eye specialist. We left in plenty of time, so I didn't rush, then about 15km from the hospital there were major road works and we were held up for ages, and of course when we got to the hosp. there was nowhere to park. I dropped him off at the main entrance and went to find a park and by the time I'd got back to the eye clinic he was almost finished. The letter said he could expect to be there for up to 2 hours so I took my knitting, but he was probably there about 10 mins. We wait now for a letter to see if anything can be done for him.

I bought a couple more balls of yarn - not that I need any!

It's red and black of course (GOOOO CRUSADERS!!), I taught myself yesterday how to enlarge sewing patterns and yesterday enlarged a pattern for a small dog to fit The Furry One.
Happy knitting :)

well done kiwimade, looking forward to seeing pics of your efforts. Cold and overcast this morning, so I've just lit the fire - might as well "waste" some firewood and have hot water as well as a warm house. Got to see the nurse to get my bp checked this morning then I will probably go to the supermarket to get a few things. I don't want much - be interesting to see how little I can get away with spending. Last time I didn't want much it cost me $140 !!!

kuaka - 2013-07-26 08:33:00

Morning everyone..
Kuaka, I have a scanning thingee here, like a remote, which is connected through phone lines. I scan any groceries etc that I buy . The info gets sent through the phone line and they use it for their studies of what people buy etc. You earn points and can get rewards. Ive just ordered a $100 prezzy card. It doesn't take long and it means Im up with the prices of foods etc.

I think yesterday was my hump day, Im not coughing as much this morning, the face hurts tho but getting onto that. And for my trouble I have a hint of gout, which is the first time since I started taking pills for it. but my urine has been really strong. Its not too painfull, just enough to let me know its there and to drink a bit more water.

Aint that normal, you think you have plenty of time, so take your time and end up late cos of road works etc... My friend never allows for interuptions in her travel so is always late. I hate that.

Last week was my I didn't need much shopping and it was $63... mind you I reckon I got more then , than I did yesterday for $98.

Well have a good day Ladies.. Kiwimade have fun sewing... I have the concentration of a gnat at the mo. so not doing any knitting or anything yet lol

popeye333 - 2013-07-26 08:57:00
1799

back from Dr and dentist she pulled a root of from the back .now I should heal off shopping now see you girls later

carolev - 2013-07-26 13:45:00
1800

$179 later - I probably bought just as much as when I do a full shop! Oh well, the pantry is bulging at the seams. Sometimes I fear that the shelves will collapse. Won't that be fun if it happens. Just going to put clean sheets on the bed and bring in some more firewood then I might put my feet up and knit for a while. My bp was much better today, almost good, at 128/80 which is a huge improvement on what it was a few weeks ago. The pills seem to be doing the trick, they just make me spend a penny a bit more during the day.
