German Plum Cake I didn't make this one this week, but plums are in season & this is an easy & excellent tart. Pastry: 100g butter, 2c flour, 1/4c sugar, 1t baking powder, 1/2t salt, 1/2t grated lemon peel, 1/4t mace. 1 egg, 2T water. Cut butter into dry ingredients, then mix egg & water & stir into flour mixture. Gather into a ball & knead until smooth, only a few strokes, press evenly into 23cm layer pan or quiche dish or deep-dish pie plate.

plum cake pt 2 1kg (about 5c) red or porple plums, halved & pitted. 3/4c sugar, 2T flour, 1t cinnamon. 1/4c slivered almonds (approx 1 70g packet). Place plum halves cut-side down and overlapping somewhat over the pastry. Mix sugar, flour & spice & sprinkle over plums. Sprinkle almonds over that. Bake in 190C oven abour 35-45min until pastry is golden & plums are bubbly. NB: it's a good idea to place a baking sheet on the rack below the pan, as sometimes the plum juice bubbles over. Mmmm, wish I still had a plum tree...

Hi Jaxma I just started looking at this thread, you've probably come across my TM "name" with the threads on Bumping (to or not - I've been heavily involved in doing it with my fav. threads but others have pointed out that it forces threads off much more quickly than would otherwise be the case - and one member is starting up a site where we can preserve TM threads under a variety of topics eg Chicken, Christmas etc Anyway I'd love both your books please. My addy is wendy"at"netlistdotc-

worth another look I made the date crumb bars that I've already posted (number 1531 on pg 31), but this time without cocoa and with 1/3 wholemeal flour instead. I also had about 100g of dark chocolate left over from other projects, so chopped that and scattered it over the date filling but under the crumb topping. The wholemeal worked out beautifully, but the extra chocolate wasn't really all that impressive. I hope the campers I sent it away with like it, though. One was a veg who was okay with dairy but not egg.
