well the top up system is still working for me, new world had 25c off fuel for $200 spent my shopping today came to $165 and I brought a $35 New world card for next week qualifying me for the 25 cent off voucher, so a happy shopper today. And usung my CC to pay for groceries has again paid off as I earnt enough points this year to get book vouchers for a xmas present which if I was paying for in cash prob would of thought na, but because its kind of free money thought why not......now using CC isnt for everyone I know but I do my shop on it, then transfer the money over so I get the hot points and it doesnt cost me anything for the bank transfer, so another free perk in my eyes. Have a great weekend everyone

Hi-ya Kob, just read this post and i noticed you mentioned you do a bank transfer for your credit card payment. We do ALL our spending on the credit card ie groceries, fuel, WOF, car rego (online), sky, internet, and phone, and we set up with the bank for the total monthly amount to be direct debited out of the joint acc that our wages go into. We don't have an eftpos card attached to that acc. So there is only one withdrawal for all our spending. The insurance and rates are Direct debited too.So the hot points soon add up with the visa used like this. My partner and i take turns redeeming points when they are due to expire.

Valentines Day: hasn't it become commercialised.........My hubby loves imperial leather soap but each soap comes inclosed in a box then a covering of plastic and then comes with a sticker either side of the soap, and each time he has to grab a new soap out of the cabinet, theres banging and crashing and swearing for Africa while he fiddles with the plastic etc, SO for V DAy yesterday I brought him too packs so 8 soaps and I removed the cardboard, the plastic and the stickers and placed them in the bathroom capboard ready for his next soap change, thats love !!!!!!!! he thought it was pretty cool anyway and thats all the matters ( and less mess for me cause he normally leaves the mess on the floor) lol

My tip for the night, make up a batch of crumble mix and place in the freezer in a glad bag, there is so much stone fruit going bad in the fruit bowl lately, as Im cooking tea I microwave the fruit ( minus the bad bits) let cool and with the heat of the oven I sprinkle on the crumble mixture and bake, cool and freeze this way I know im going to have a great freezer selection come winter time, if they last that long

recon whiskey mix it with equal portions of malt vinegar ( mix in a big bowl)and give a good stir, it will overflow a little but this makes a great stainless steel cleaner for your benchtop sink or shower stall, it works a treat

Morning.
Made a very cheap dinner on Friday night that the family raved about. They had beautiful honey cured rindless Bacon 800gm packs reduced to clear for $4 (usually over $10), so I brought all 3. There are 16 rashers in each pack so I kept out 8 rashers and froze 5 packs of 8 ($2 worth) for another time. I then made corn fritters using a tin of Budget whole kernal corn and the Meal in the minute recipe for "Chilli" corn fritters. I served then as a stack, alternating bacon & fritter then served with a green salad. I drizzled some real Maple syrup over them that I had been given as a gift from canada.... The whole meal was delicious, looked impressive and cost minimal.

I do the same, but my Credit card is a Global Plus Visa, this way we never pay for a domestic flights and have had 2 trips to the gold coast in the last year for just the cost of the taxs. We shouted Miss 18 a flight home from Rhythm & Vines at Christmas, which turned out to be very lucky for her as they closed the gorge and people took about 8 hours to drive back.

I always bring home the little shampoo bottles and then empty them into our flowing soap dispenser, I was given the tip to use cheap shampoo as its cheaper than flowing soap. But now I get a litre of budget flowing soap for about $2.20, can't beat that... so long as the dispenser looks nice no one knows its budget.

I need to pull my horns in, I have noticed the weekly grocery bill is creeping up.... bottles of wine are sneaking in. I did however try something on my girls this last shop.
They placed Make up removing wipes on the shopping list - They sell for over $8 for just 25. I noticed the pack said "Oil and alcohol free" So I went back to the baby aisle and looked at the baby wipes. If they a mild enough for soft babies skin then they should be fine for faces. They came in a cute Winnie the Pooh container and were $5.99 for 80, with the option to buy a refill next time. Will let you know how they found them.

I still check my receipts, and there is often mistakes, I have to go back today as they charged me twice for one item (double scanned), and I am sure the wrong price for another. Think thats my pet hate with countdown, they have a big yellow specials sticker then it scans at regular price. I shopped on Thursday, so if it is the wrong price then everyone who brought it before that has been overcharged and just not noticed.

I made garlic salt last night as we seem to plough throu it here (even just with 2 of us)
Crush 2 cloves of garlic in a mortar and pestle and keep adding a teaspoon at a time of salt mixing very well after each addition, keep adding a teaspoon of salt until it starts looking like salt again cos when you first start it is very lumpy from the oil in the garlic.Over time the salt will "dry out" to resemble proper salt, the moisture from the garlic with be absorbed. This makes about 1/4 cup

Has anyone any idea which of the cheaper shampoos and conditioners are any good? Really tight budget at the moment, and only buying essentials, unfortunatley have just about run out of spoo n cond. Had a look last week and the budget brand which I have never tried before is obviously heaps cheaper but dont want to spend my money on it if it'll make my hair really gross. It's not that I used to buy saloon quality/priced ones but tend to buy 'good' brands of supermarket ones if you know what i mean. I've got dryish curly blonde hair if anyone has any other alternate hair cleaners. TIA:-)

Shampoo - about a tablespoon of baking soda mixed to a semi runny paste with water, massage into your hair, then rinse out.

Conditioner - 1/4 cup white vinegar (if I only had malt I would use that) make up to 1 cup with water, massage into the ends after rinsing off the baking soda.

Do as often as needed.

Does your hair smell of vinegar afterwards???
Maybe I sould just not wash it? You hear of these people that dont wash it for a month or so and it starts to self clean or get really healthy or something. I'd end up with dreads though as the only time i comb/brush it is when its wet and with conditioner in it - would end up with a frizzy mess otherwise:-) A big blonde afro LOL

cheap shampoo--
I once read an article by the Queens hairdresser. He said dishwash liquid is as good as any. The secret is in the rinsing.
a long time. if you think you have rinsed enough- do some more.
Have followed this ever since to no ill effect.
Shampoo is only perfumed detergent

I use sunsilk in the black container, just love the smell and we finally settled on this one that all 3 of us ladies in the house like. I only buy when on special and the smaller one can be 2 for $5 and the larger size on special for $5. Like KOB said, with this brand I only need the smallest amount of shampoo, and I found when I put some water in to swish the last of the conditioner out, the next day its got the same consistency as un diluted conditioner (Like it thickens on sitting) which has led me thinking to watering down the girls one secretly lol.
I buy VO5 "2 in 1" for hubbie and his little amout of hair, but i haven't used it.

Reduced to clear at Countdown last night saw me bringing home 6 packs of 300g Leg ham last night, retail over $6 and I paid $2.15 dates says 5th March so 1 in the fridge and 5 in the freezer. Also juicies are on special, 2 for $7. Hubbie has swapped ice cream for these (100mls of fruit juice is much better for him) and we go through boxes...usually retail over $5 so have stocked up this week.

Well got invited to a BBQ tonight, Pot luck type of thing, have been trolling thru the cook books trying to find some food I could take where i wouldnt have to buy anything ( no money at the moment). So made american brownies - super easy recipe and doesnt use anything out of the ordinary, I'm making Foccacia bread in the bread maker then shaping raising by hand, have some sausages in the freezer already and a few bottles of RTD's left over from camping trip. I did sneak out and buy a $4 rosemary plant for foccacia topping. I figure I can plant it and use it again and again, And as its a a friends birthday BBQ I thought i'd better take a present, I have a bottle of bubbly given to me at xmas, I dont drink the stuff so regifting it for her.

my plum jam recipe, I also made plum & rhubarb and it tastes like strawberry......i filled my largest pot with washed plums or 3/4 plums and 1/4 chopped washed rhubarb added 1/2 cup of water just to give them a little liquid and left for 30 mins stirring all the time on low heat to stew, then a put it all through a sieve ( yes it took ages but was worth it), I then weighed it( remembering to tare the pot weight first) and added equal amounts of sugar, then I added 2 tablespoons of lime juice ( found lime works better for setting than lemon) reheat slowely to a boiling point and once boiling lower heat to a simmer and stir every 5 mins for around 2 hours or until your testa seperates without rejoining, if you dont know what that means, after two hours you put a tablepoon of the jam onto a saucer and leave to cool, once cool you run your finger through the middle of it and if the run through rejoins it needs longer cooking if it stays put then jam is ready to bottle in clean steriliszed jars, eating it as i type and its the bomb, made 12 jars during the storm on saturday and only cost me the sugar, total prize

I have found it really doesn't matter what you wash it with - cheap, expensive, dishwashing liquid - it's the conditioner that determines the end result.

I'm my own worst enemy sometimes (not often) I went to a budget advisor this after noon and we cut all my expenses down to the bare minimum eg food $50 a week, no haircuts, medical cut in 1/2, no personal cash at all, and after all my expenses I get left with $10 a week, was so depressed/pis*ed off about it I went and bought some vodka cruisers, $24 i didnt have!. But then i went home determined to start up my own garden maintenance business, work for myself rather than rely on anyone else.... any suggestions for a name for the business, need to get some fliers printed and sent out, TIA
