with respect to all Steven, i do have information but i can not see why this will be of any benefit to anyone.
as there is only one entity (plural) that can provide the answers. i provided facts, (opinions if that is what is needed) which i stand by. but i did not expect a backlash and i can not see why.
i do not believe in religion, but that does not give me the right to go into a church, and put down peoples rights to freedom of their faith. and to demand that they " put up or shut up" as they can not.
but this is different as someone can.

with respect to william1091 I think maybe you should have cup of tea and a lie down. Stamps are meant to relief stress. Maybe it isn't working for you. At least you are giving me a good chuckle.
Any chance on giving clues on how to make a fortune like you did?

1655. Hi Steve, I saw the..... (Teddybear sheet Melissah, I didn't indicate a price for the Teddy bear sheet on cover because its not something which I would buy because technically it is stolen property and if purchased in NZ The Post office could probably sue you for it. Weither they would I don't know. It is possible that they could simply report it to the NZ police and you would be up on a receiving charge. That's something I don't want to get involved with. I informed the owner of the "Status' of the item and how it shouldn't be sold within NZ. I also did not ask the owner their name or any contact details.

can someone tell me ..... ive almost finished sorting whats left of my stamp collection as I sold off alot of it years ago , however I cant figure out as im no expert what the difference between the 632 and 597 and 552 are they look the same to me and what makes a 596 as these all seem to look the same ? Is the difference the yr they were made or what ? As its quite confusing as I have many of these ones I just cant tell which ones they are and the internet doesnt explain it that greatly. Any help much appreciated

re 1674 What catalogue are you referring to? Is it SG?

phil.s - 2009-09-18 14:48:00

darkangeldeep I think those are Scott catalogue numbers for USA 1c Green Franklin Stamps.
Scott-632 is 1927....Scott-597 is 1923 perf 10 and possibly from a coil......Scott-552 is 1923 and probably from a booklet.....Scott-596 is 1924 perf 11x11 Rotary Press and is so rare it is often confused with scott 552

Maybe someone has a scott catalogue for auction on trademe
or maybe you can find one to look up at a library.

Hi everyone - I'm new here ; ) I have just found my old stamp collections from 30 years ago and am wondering how I can get them looked at to see if there is anything interesting in them.
Also, my 7 year old daughter upon seeing my stamps wants to collect also - so we went through our mail and everything was prepaid postal - NO stamps (much to my daughters disgust!) So how do I go about getting interesting stamps that dont cost the earth to buy. And if she does find some stamps on mail how do we get them off as soaking them wont work? I really apperciate and feed back ; ) Thanks, Bec

1684 Hi, it's good to hear of your interest in this great hobby. For your daughter it would be good for her to join the stamp hunter's club on the NZ Post website. For about $5 the kids get lots of nice stamps & stamp accessories including a NZ catalogue. The catalogue will probably be a couple of years old but it will give you some idea to values. Keep in mind that catalogue values are dealers retail prices. NZ Post's website has lots of helpful information on collecting. If your collection has overseas stamps you would be best to get catalogues from a library for an idea of values.

More on children collecting Perhaps your daughter could write some letters or send a picture to a relative and they could write back using gummed stamps, there are plenty of nice new ones available and getting stamps on letters is the most interesting way to collect. You can also pick up some good stamp selections on Trademe for just a few dollars. Try soaking stamps in hot water this removes most of the self adhesive ones but some sets are very stuborn. Hope that this is helpful to you. Just ask if you have more questions. Mostly we are a very friendly bunch!

daddyb Great find there.....
You could visit a stamp club,(the nearest one to you would be in Mt Albert)...or go to stamp fairs,(see newspapers for dates)... your daughter might enjoy the NZ Post stamps Kids Club(on line only)...or even get a pen pal...or browse trademe which has a lot of stamp auctions covering many levels of collecting.

1688 A NZ catalogue such as Len Jury or ACS would be good to get. They cost about $10 and have full colour pictures of nearly all NZ Stamps. You can usually buy them on Trademe. You might like to have a look on NZ Post's website too as they have lots of information about NZ stamps and collecting. I hope this helps.

Discovery of 1864 3 x 1d Red Plate 77 on Cover Have been following the thread on this on Stampboards.com for nearly a year. It make interesting (although arduous) reading.

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8808

It's now getting to the stage where some experts are staking their philatelic reputations on one side or the other.

Have a look (if you haven't done so already) and see what you think. There are some interesting insights into the world of rare stamps and expertising.

Plate 77 I have not followed the great debate but I would have thought they could just compare the GB 1d reds on that persons cover with the known Plate 77 example in the Tapling collection, housed in the British Library.

Help with name of the black pages for stamps Having a senior moment - wish to buy more of the black pages with the plastic pockets for storing/displaying stamps and for the life of me cant remember what they are called. They fit in an album. Usually go to Otaki to buy from the stamp dealer but feel sure they must come up on TM. Help with name please

#1692 I think that everyone is now of the opinion that the stamps have not actually come from plate 77, as the other characteristics of these stamps are the same as plate 73, so there would be no use in comparing these stamps with the Tapling one. The argument appears to lie between the stamps being faked or a change being somehow made to plate 73. The owner of the cover has spent thousands of pounds on forensic analysis including an electron microscope, which has identified no disruption of paper fibres which would apparently make it impossible to alter a 3 to a 7, especially 5 times on three stamps (the place where the 6th plate number would be is damaged). But who knows?
