Hi All... been out and about this morning. Went to the briscoes sale cos I have for many years wanted a cake trio stand. And they have 50% off Maxwell and Williams china. so only paid $30. Yayay... Was lucky enough to get a plain white/creamy coloured one. So next time I want to change the table decoration I can put that on with some of my fancy cup and saucers.
Got Whiskeys bride made up yesterday.. Will start on the groom this afternoon. Then they can wing their way south.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sun (if you have it) .. Have a good day

Well we finally made it to New York after a long and eventful trip.

Our flight from Sydney was pretty good but once we got to San Francisco it all turned to custard! As you will all know there was a serious plane crash at SF Airport. It happened while we were in the Customs Hall although we never heard it. It was the flight to land directly after ours. As a result, the SF Airport was closed. From that point on it was a real pickle. They didn't seem to have any disaster plan for passengers already at the airport. I could write a book about what happened! We did meet some interesting people though.

All up we were at the airport for about 11 hours including probably 4 hours standing in a queue. Our baggage had gone somewhere. No flights going to New York until Monday so we chose to take the first flight out about 11.00 pm to Washington. We were lucky to get on it as Tom Cruise couldn't get on despite the best efforts of his staff.

From Washington the next morning we took a train to New York.

To top it all off, when we got to our hotel they said we didn't have a booking, but did find a room for us. Have since been in touch with travel agent and sorted that. We spent the rest of that day sleeping as we were exhausted. That night we went for a walk and we did a buggy ride through Central Park with Troy and his NZ horse, Danny Boy. He showed us the markings so it was true.

Still no luggage two days later so had to go buy a summer dress and shoes. Luggage finally turned up on the third day as we were checking out. We are now at my girlfriend's niece's place in Connecticut (an hour out of New York) and have been for 3 days and back to New York tomorrow.

I could tell so much more, like how our luggage actually went to Salt Lake City; or the man in the ice-cream cart who chased a woman who wouldn't pay him $7 for an icecream sunday and pushed it in her face; oh, and I forgot to say that while we were standing in line at SF Airport we were interviewed for TV.

We did some shopping yesterday. There are a lot of sales on at the moment and I bought a dress, two tops and two t-shirts for NZ$130 - all good quality stuff, so I was very pleased.

Haven't had a chance to read all the posts but hope you are all well and keeping warm. It's hard to believe we are sweltering in the heat over here. Will try and get back here in a couple of days or so.

Wow Pats what an eventfull time you are having... Thank goodness you weren't on that other plane, but it would have been scary enough just being there.
From the sound of the mishaps Id say your over the worst and hopefully will have a fantastic time.
Stay safe, enjoy the warm weather..
Hear from you soon

Morning All... Yay we have some wind. Have had rain overnight too. The first wind and rain for about 4? days. Hasn't been good for drying clothes that's for sure. and today I might have to add return addresses to it, incase it gets blown away lol.
I finished the bride and Groom last night. will post pics after it has sold.. *****WHISKEY**** if we can co-ord a time so I know you get it it will be good. Ill be here 12noon till about 1pm.. and then from 3-45ish till 6-30ish tonight.

I have forgotten where I put the teddies eyes I got. if I can find them I might start a teddy to sell, otherwise thinking of the smaller topsy turveys.
I didn't knit last night. finished my book instead. so need to get back onto my blanket now. I don't as far as I know have the next book in the series so will be easier to knit and not read. Sometimes books are just too good.

Putting lamb shanks in the crockpot this morning, so that's tea sorted lol

Have a good day everyone...Hope to catch up with Whiskey soon.

We got snow on the ground this morning and it froze. Very slippery. Not much traffic around except the grit truck. Sitting by the fire and about to have some veggie soup and toast. Keep warm everyone. It is winter.

Keep plodding along Kiwimade it will get done.

Wow ffloss, sounds like a prefect day to stay indoors needles at the ready.

Its windy and raining here now.

I found the eyes, I knew they were far away. So have started a fawn bear.

I love winter, far easier to keep warm than it is to try and stay cool.

Morning all. Been a wet manky wknd here on the island. Added to that so many projects to get done. I mooched on the wknd and made a crochet backpack for myself and am working on a bag for miss 11. I also have two beanies to finish to send off to Aussie and a couple of smaller projects to send over too.

Gosh, I hope that those of you who are under the weather make a speedy recovery. Damn ills and chills suck. Things are pretty settled in our house currently, no bugs right now. And I am just working on experimenting with foods and my diabetes at the minute. Trying different foods and doing lots of finger pricks to see what happens.

I have an addiction for printing out patterns I get online. Most of late have been crochet, but I am missing knitting and think I may have to go on a printing mission and find something that takes my fancy lol.

Have a great day ladies :-)

Morning
Woke to a lovely day after a really wet day yesterday - sunny with a light wind although rather cool but the forecast still says that it is raining here. Taken the plunge and done a bit wash so hopefully it will get the worse of the water out of it before it rains again.
Hope you feel better quickly Carol, Popeye the happy couple look great as all your creations do.
Pats will have so much to talk about when she gets back what great memories she is creating even if unplanned ones!
Decided small Great nephew needs another jersey so will go to skeinz this am for wool, want DK so can get it finished before the weekend the other projects will have to go on hold for a little while but I always seem to have a couple of things on the go at the same time.
Keep warm and carry on everyone.

Hey jayemtoo, I am waiting for an order from skeinz that I put in last week. Can't wait for it to arrive. The last lot was brilliant!

dwebble - 2013-07-15 10:52:00

I always come away from there with something extra. Just got my first order from Deramores - very good service but a bit disapointed with the colours of the wool, they are not really what I expected. Think I prefer seeing what I am going to get.
Not to worry now have a lot of extra wool for beanies etc and will keep me going for quite a while.

it's a wool factory outlet shop in Napier- all wool with very little acrylic. They also have variety wools eg merino, alpaca, mohair.

jayemtoo - 2013-07-15 17:51:00
1675

Nice looking wools but nothing for me to use. I use acrylic for toys, and jumpers for me, I don't like wool. and I cant knit mohair it makes my sinuses flair up.
Good prices tho, especially the clearance items

Morning all.. Fine here, a few clouds about. and I think there may have been a hint of a frost.

Finished knitting the Teddy last night. My record, 2 days of knitting. I will remember to put the eyes in while the seam is still open this time.
My next project will be a topsy turvy doll. Looking forward to that.

The sooky cat Bob goes outside for a few minutes for his ablutions and runs back inside and that's where he stays... Tooo cold Mummy lol Hardcase, I have a towel on the lounge chair next to me, he sits on it and tries to pull the extra over him, its his way of asking me to cover him.
what a life.
Have a good day everyone.

ha popeye, I've noticed that my cat has suddenly morphed from an outdoor cat to an indoor cat - funny that.

morning ladies :) We have a really hard frost here, everything is frozen lol but it is going to be a stunning day. Going to be damed cold on the fingers hanging out the washing lol... MrK will have to move over from doing the dishes and let me wash them this morning to warm my hands up! We must be one of the few who don't have a dishwasher.
I'm off to Hamilton this morning, have a few errands to run there. Almost 2 thirds of the way round the lace so will keep going this afternoon.
Happy knitting :)

Morning all,
Looks like being a nice day here - hope it stays that way as want to walk into town takes about an hour to get there so catch the bus back again but keep the legs going.
Started a jersey for a great nephew yesterday am adapting a pattern to knitting the body and sleeves in the round so no seams except sewing in the sleeves will see how it goes. Also trying knitting both sleeves together using magic loop I rather like trying out new techniques especially if make life easier in the long run.
Will be very interested in seeing the finished shawl Kiwimade.
I'll have to get on and download a few photos onto the fb page sometime as have finished quite a few projects over the weekend. I have a bit of a tendency to finish the knitting but the finishing off gets put aside until I am in the mood for sewing up etc
have a good day

1683

kiwimade sent you a message on FB I am cleaning today, did a lot yesterday T came home and over dinner ask me if I was prego I laughed at him ask why , his reply was only prego women have a big clean up be 65 next Tuesday 1/2 way up second sleeve

carolev - 2013-07-16 09:28:00
1684

Funny how the Tough cats end up as sookies lol... Bob is on the chair under the towel again. He gets up for a few bikkies, sits in the sun for five mins and gets back on the chair.

Kiwimade, I have a dishwasher, its name is MrP lol... but I will admit yesterday I kicked him out of the way before he finished so I could thaw my hands out lol.

Jaymoo that will be different eh, knitting the jumper and a whole. I don't mind sewing up, which is just as well with the toys lol.

Carol welcome to the retirement world. MrP has been retired two years so I retired at 46 lol. I go through stages of having a superclean lol.

Have got the head and body sewn of the teddie. Eyes on and soo much easier to put them in first. Very pleased. Just have to sew, stuff and attach the limbs and he will be done. So he will be done today, 3 days is a record for me lol. I really like making these teddies. I think Ill make this one a standing up and the next one sitting down.
Stay safe on the roads Kiwimade, especially if icy

Hi popeye.
Just thinking of having a Topsy-Turvy doll made for my supervisor's first born grand-daughter. Paige Marie was born last Thursday (11th) 8lbs 4 ounces. I quite like Pansy/Rose. Could i place an order?

whiskey13 - 2013-07-16 12:46:00
1686

You certainly can Whiskey. I was planning on doing a topsy turvey next . Should be able to start her tomorrow at the latest depending on how long it takes to fin teddy. As to whether I start tonight or not
Just looking at the pattern you want the same colours?

popeye333 - 2013-07-16 13:02:00
1687

Yes please popeye. Thank-you very much. I know Robyn (my supervisor) has got one of the red nosed gang. (I think the painter) that she was planing to give the baby well before she was even conceived so it would be cool to have a few Jean Greenhowe toys.

Will do Whskey. The book doesn't show the coral pink of roses side very well. but Ill get as close as I can to it.
Teddy is finished. So will be starting PansyRose tonight after tea.

Lol dwebble... I generally stock my colours I use most for toys and throw in a few new ones , when I order from Deramores. but my order due this week is to make MrP a cardy.. sometime between now and next winter lol

What sort of toys do you make popeye? I have just been crocheting owls and have a friend in Oz who wants me to make her an elephant, but I am scared to venture into toys, incase they are too complicated lol. I just want to make a few things to send to my grandkids, but not feeling the creative buzz at the minute.

I do Jean Greenhowe toys dwebble www.jeangreenhowe.com She has all sorts. But no elephants. Ive done a lot of the red Nose gang. Some of her dolls, snow white and 7 dwarfs, the scarecrows. Teddys. Santa and Mrs Claus which I have listed and a teddy.Just finished a bride and groom for Whiskey too.
Im doing a topsy/turvey doll for Whiskey now. First one Ive made. They are small ones.
Jean has many books. her instructions are very easy to follow. And other than buying her books off TM, you can get new ones through Deramores for $10-89.. they ate on average $21 at spotlight.

Right better hustle my butt to the med centre.

Have a good day

popeye - your latest photo of the happy couple looks great.

Today we were on the hop-on-hop off bus and we got off before it finished it's route as it was too painful to listen to the commentator as she spoke in broken English and we couldn't understand her. We probably should have stayed on the bus as we entered Central Park from that point, heading in a particular direction but as my girlfriend had the map upside-down, we did a complete circle and ended up where we started! Oh my gosh, in the heat this was just too much so we hailed a taxi as we wanted to go to a wool shop but as it happened, when we got there it was closed! The next wool shop we had been recommended to go to which was close by was also closed. Just not our day I guess. Hope we have better luck in San Francisco as have a list of wool shops there.

One thing I forgot to mention was the coffee here - the Americans do not know what good coffee is. I have gone back to drinking 'short blacks' as when I ordered a Latte, it was revolting!

That's about it for now. I gather all of you in Christchurch are a bit cold :-) I, on the other hand am really feeling the heat and wishing it was a bit cooler!!

Hope you all carry on playing nicely while I'm away, lol.

Wow Pats your having a good time by the sounds of it.. I wouldn't handle the heat.
Maybe those shops were shut for a reason, your going to find a better one with good bargains.
Has been cold here. miserable weather coming. But we have to expect that for winter.
How much longer for your trip?

Had a nana nap today or a powernap lol 45 mins and I don't feel as tired. still headachy. Need a good day out in the wind, but its too cold lol

Only have a couple of rows to do on the first skirt. Enjoying doing this topsy turvey.
