| Thank you for sharing your stories Gerry.. Did what we needed to do up the road came home and nearly turned into the long drive and realized I hadnt been there lol,,, So we went back. Bumped into a girl I went to school with at the med center, then at the chemist, then at NW. When we met at the Chemist I said we will have to stop meeting like this, and then she said the same at NW lol.. Its a few years since I saw her lol. My wool has arrived. I havent opened it yet, as they have wrapped it as well as I wrap things so ill need to get to it later lol. popeye333 - 2021-02-03 13:16:00 |
| morning ladies :) Wow, gerry, thank you for sharing your story. No wonder your dad didn't talk about it. Another hot day is on the cards so I'll start putting the prunings into the wheelie bin shortly. I was waiting for it to be emptied an for the prunings to wilt down. I can't put them into the compost as they will take root rather than rot down. We have a huge container of worm wee from my sister-in-law's worm farm. I can't wait to get it onto the garden, especially around the roses and MrK wants to put it on the vegie garden. I'm working slowly on my embroidery and am happy with it now I have the colours fixed in my mind. While we were out walking the boardwalks at Hannah Bay I took some closeup photos of the bull rushes. After this piece of embroidery, I might have a tutu and see what I can do with them. Time to move before the day becomes too hot. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-04 07:05:00 |
| Morning everyone, Was hoping to be out earlier today but Yesterday I rang the district nurses who were meant to call us to ask about the incontinence stuff, and arranged for them to ring this afternoon, but they rang this morning and are due soon. Yay cos its certainly not a cheap hobby. My wool arrived yesterday, No lables... which I thought was really odd, but its only acrylic and 100gram balls so it doesnt make any difference. Just never had that happen before lol. I hope to hunt out my pattern later today so I can start my jacket. When I was in the cheapie shop looking for a new scrubbing brush I came across their baking tins etc.. I got a lovely deep 25 x 35 cm tin. Its none stick but will be perfect for marshmellow shortcake and other deeper slices. Only $9-50 too so it nearly replaces the one that never returned home. Have a fab day all, we are off shopping once the nurse has been popeye333 - 2021-02-04 09:16:00 |
| morning ladies :) We were supposed to be going to Lake Rotoma for a family fun day but my sister-in-law is back in hospital. So we will all go another day when she can join us. Housework then for me today and I'll have the hose on the garden again. Thank goodness for our water bore. Still working away on my embroidery, I outlined it all in stem stitch yesterday as my markings were fading. MrK is still sleeping, not like him to sleep in so I'll whip outside and water the garden pots before he's up and needs the hose for the vegies. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-05 07:05:00 |
| Morning everyone Sorry to hear your sister in law is back in hospital Kiwimade, lets hope she improves again. Its a tale of two weathers here today, one side is sunny the other north side is black. The district nurse came yesterday, she thinks MrP would be better with a catheter, but she left some pull ups to see how he goes. Might hunt out my pattern today. I cant remember if I knit the frill attached to the jacket or not, if not Im going to do that bit first while its still hot. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-05 09:01:00 |
| mica 32, if you look for The Nest Collective on Facebook, they are taking over from Little Sprouts and several knitters I know who used to knit for Little Sprouts are changing over to The Nest Collective. creamhouse - 2021-02-05 20:15:00 |
| Thanks Creamhouse I located them over the weekend. I don't do Facebook so will wait for their website to go live this month. mica3 - 2021-02-05 21:17:00 |
| morning ladies :) Thanks for the info creamhouse :) I'll remember that for when I get back into knitting over the winter. Another very hot day coming up so I'm going to do the lawn edges shortly and then mow the lawn before it gets too hot. There are longer gaps now between mowing :D :D :D I've noticed our resident blackbird and some waxeyes have been helping themselves to our grapes. The blackbird had been 'testing' their ripeness for quite a few days. We don't mind sharing with them but would like our fair share lol. It will be a different story though when it comes to the raspberries next season. Still working on my picture, so far so good. I'll use small beads for the flower's center to add a bit of gloss. Coffee's finished, time to get outside and enjoy the cool start to the day. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-06 07:22:00 |
| Morning everyone, A very late start for me today. I said to MrP last night I was tired and might sleep till8am for a change. Woke up with 2 mins to spare and then thought Il just stay here and cuddle me Missy girl. Next thing it was 9-40 lol. Kiwimade There wasn't alot on our lawn to do this week either, but they still did it. But I will ask them not to do it next fortnight. I was thinking about the waxeyes this morning actually, I haven't seen any as yet. My seed potatoes rotted, probably cos the garage gets soo hot, so Ive decided to not replant anything till later in summer when its not so hot. Im trying to figure out the best and cheapest way of filtering off some of the sun, it just gets soo hot out there. Today when I get my butt into gear we will be stewing granny smiths, I got two bags marked down at PnS and MrP wants apple turnovers. Yesterday the lady who lives in our previous house text and offered me some passionfruit. I didn't say no lol.. so they will need doing in a few days too. I still havent looked for my pattern, I just cant seem to get motivated to knit.. Hopefully it will come back soon. Kuaka it looks like your having fun on your Trip with the Girls.. Sunflower I hope things are going well with you Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-06 10:29:00 |
| morning ladies :) Wow popeye, you were tired. I was watching the Agatha Christie programme on Prime last night and there was 'my' hat I'm embroidering lol. What a hoot lol. I guess I'm on the right track. MrK is making little wooden boxes from recycled timber again and is working on a gorgeous one at the moment. I'm still waiting for the cleat so we can rehang the mirror, I get the impression he just doesn't want to do it. The sunrise was stunning this morning, a sign of another hot day. Better get moving and do what needs to be done. I have to finish the lawn and only have the berm part to do. There is room in the bin for some more prunings too as they have wilted down. I'll chop them into small bits so I can fit more in. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-07 07:06:00 |
| Morning everyone Yeah Kiwimade I have never slept that late before lol. We stewed the 10 apples yesterday, they were huge, I wish Id taken a photo before they were done.. I got 12 apple turnovers and probably 10 breakfasts for me.. Apples and Pastry were $7 a little bit of sugar, spices and sultanas and time so it wouldn't have been any more than $10 I reckon. So it is all tucked away in the freezer.. And that wasn't easy hahaha. Today I have the dishes cos I was just too sore to stand any longer yesterday. I text the lady in our old place yesterday and asked if I could be cheeky and see if there are any raspberry canes up and get a few if they are. She said yes of course, She isnt a gardener so doesnt know what they look like.. So Ill go up through the week sometime and have a look. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-07 09:18:00 |
| morning ladies :) There should be some canes growing, popeye. Ours are growing great guns and so tall! Can't wait to get raspberries off them next season. Our grapevine is a free-for-all buffet for the birds at the moment but it's so big there is plenty for us all. I picked a big bowl full yesterday and we have given some away. The mynahs have joined the party now. I've noticed them stripping the petals off my roses too. It seems they have a sweet tooth. I've almost finished stitching the hat and will start on the rose some time today. I might even start sketching my next project. Heaven knows how it will turn out but I've had an idea from walking through the wetlands at Hannah's Bay in Rotorua. Happy crafting :) Edited by kiwimade64 at 7:04 am, Mon 8 Feb kiwimade64 - 2021-02-08 07:04:00 |
| Morning everyone, Well all the passionfruit were done. They were fairly sweet too. I got 3 cups and a spoonful for me lol.. MrP was eating the thicker part I noticed lol.. But now I also know that the average fruit holds 1 Table spoon and 1 teaspoon of the measuring spoons and 2 fruit is a level 1/4 of a cup. I must write it in my hand written books tho. Its nice and cool at the mo, which makes a change. I didnt see the weather last night so Im guessing a fine hot one is in store. Yeah Kiwimade I think the only reason there wont be any plants is if the lawnmower person has done them in... I dont know how they will go in the bath but its worth a try while I can get them for nothing. MrP is grumpy so it wont be a flash day lol... Ill stay out of his way once I have trimmed his nails and helped tighten some bolts on the foot pads on the wheelchair. Ill do those first and hope that it cheers him up lol.. I would like to tidy the car out, so hopefully Ill get that done before lunch too. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-08 09:13:00 |
| Those passionfruit sound like they are nice and juicy. When we had passionfruit we would freeze them in ice cubes and then store in ziplock bag in the freezer. mica3 - 2021-02-08 11:09:00 |
| They are yummy Mica3. I freeze them in 1/4 cup amounts in little snack zip lock bags , flat so they dont take up much room in the freezer. popeye333 - 2021-02-08 12:11:00 |
| I am going wool shopping online tomorrow which sites do you recommend. My soon to be new great grandchild is a little boy so l need to start knitting for him. I am still feeling that at 63 l am to young to have 2 great grandies, l became a granny at 32 so started very young. It us strange seeing my kids become grandparents. huntlygirl - 2021-02-08 20:27:00 |
| morning ladies :) A boy, awesome huntlygirl! If you want to buy NZ wide, Skeinz do online sales, Deramores has a good selection but overseas so online also. Spotlight is OK and also does online if you don't have one nearby. Postage can add to the price though. We froze passionfruit in ice cube trays too mica3 and do it with lemon juice as well. I put the lemon cubes into my lager when I have a beer (I know, there will be some who cringe lol) in the summer time. I've almost finished the rose, it's a bit lop sided so will unpick a leaf and turn it into another petal to even it up. I also think it's a bit too low down her neck so this extra petal will give it the height it needs. Then I'll add the beads and it's done. MrK is off to get his haircut later so I'll do it then with no distractions. I'm really hoping that promised rain will come today. The garden needs more than me moving the hose around and it may just cool things down a bit. Happy crafting :) Edited by kiwimade64 at 7:03 am, Tue 9 Feb kiwimade64 - 2021-02-09 07:02:00 |
| Morning everyone We have rain and I think it is a little cooler now the night air has gone from the house. Ohh how wonderful Huntlygirl, the more the better with grandies lol.. MrP has Great great nieces and nephews.. Another niece due in about 3 weeks I think it is now. So pleased Violet is feeling well enough to go to school.. And you take care Kidneys are precious. Ive had a super busy weekend and feeling it today. I woke at 7 with a ripper of a headache and shuffling strength pain again. So took a pill and promptly went back to sleep. everything is tolerable now tho thank goodness.. So I, having a rest day. Mind you half the morning is gone already lol. Gosh I noticed the new growth on the mandarin tree last night, I knew it had a few new leaves but theres heaps so it must be happy in its planter box, and theres one fruit on it. So that makes it equal with last year lol.. Any more is a bonus lol Cant wait to see your Hat Kiwimade.. I wish I could get enthused about something but its just not happening at the mo. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-09 10:02:00 |
| morning ladies :) So much for rain, it's trying hard but so far, nothing. Will have to see what happens today but I suspect I'll be putting the hose on the garden. I unpicked the leaf and enlarged the rose on the hat which also meant unpicking part of the hat. So it turned into a bit of a mission. I still have some to do but it does look better this way. I hate unpicking black thread as it leaves a 'shadow' on the fabric. So fingers crossed I finish it today some time. MrK has made two wooden boxes for me to sell so I might list them here and see how they go. One of them I'd love to keep lol but I have a few now. I think he just has to put the final polish onto them. I suggested to him he make quite a few and I'll see if I can get a spot at the local market but I don't think he's too keen on that idea. happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-10 07:42:00 |
| Morning everyone Still raining here, Sorry Kiwimade I wish I could blow some down for you. Its a constant light rain. Did anyone see the story on Seven sharp last night about the town supporting a 21st party? The woman had paid for a caterer to do her sons 21st and they did a runner, didnt do anything other than running off with the money. So the town got together and did it for them.. The tall guy in a bright yellow shirt with a shorter woman in a blue shirt are my friends that own the Nursery here. Ive known Gayle since late 1978.. And I was one of their bridesmaids a long time ago lol... And the lady Yvonne is one of the receptionists at the med center. She's a lovely lady and has boxers so that wins her more stars from me lol. I had a total day off yesterday apart from doing tea, and enjoyed it. must put the dishwasher on today tho. Crafts are still evading me, I hope they come back before winter tho, Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-10 09:16:00 |
| morning ladies :) No, I didn't see that, popeye. What a lovely thing for people to do :) There's still a lot of good out there. It rained but there was also wind so the rain missed the garden. So the hose is back on the garden today. I finished my embroidery yesterday but as I was stitching the last bits I was thinking it just didn't look right. So back to the drawing board yesterday and I redrew the design. This is all part of the 'journey' for me and I will often have a few attempts. If it is going on our wall, it has to be 'right'. I've run out of black thread so it will have to wait now until I can get to Spotlight for more. My sister and her granddaughter visited yesterday, it was good to catch up again. I'm not sure what we'll be doing today, I have the boxes MrK made to list and a few other bits and pieces. Nothing dramatic lol. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-11 07:28:00 |
| Morning everyone Its still overcast but not raining at the mo. The last two days of cooler temps has been wonderful tho. Shopping day today. But I have to go do my INR first. Its the last week for one of the ladies who has retired as of tomorrow. She's been there 16 years I think she told me last week. She will be missed. I got as far as getting the pattern out yesterday and couldnt find my long 4mm needles, I asked Erin where would she think they would be hiding, and she said in another project lol.. She was right, I hadnt looked in the red cardy I had started and not got very much done.... but Im going to get the shorter needles out today and start on the frill.. it is done separately and its only 8 stitches so Ill start that tonight all being well lol. Right I better get myself sorted... Have a fab day all. popeye333 - 2021-02-11 08:31:00 |
| morning ladies :) The suns up and there's not a cloud in the sky. Another hot day by the looks of it. Housework for me today and maybe some baking. MrK seems to be munching his way through the muffins I made the other day lol. Yesterday afternoon I sketched a rough outline of my interpretation of the bullrushes and boardwalk from the wetlands walk we did. I used a few photos I had taken and simplified it to take out any 'clutter'. I'll have another look at it some time over the next few days as I think about it more. It's frustrating not having the thread I need for my 1920's hat and I don't want to start on the bullrushes until I've finished the hat. I'm not one for several projects on the go at once, I like to finish or admit defeat before I start something else. Washing machine has done it's thing so time to move and make the most of this day. MrK has new meds for his aching shoulder which actually work so he's up and about too. And I must try and book an appointment with the Super people at WINZ for him. I tried twice yesterday and each time their call back went straight to the answerphone. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-12 07:12:00 |
| Morning everyone Kiwimade I reckon the rain is stopping at the Bombays, its pretty clear here today tho, so far. its not cold but not hot either. Its funny cos I want to bake too. But we shouldn't really have it. Id have to adjust my head and just make one thing so it doesn't go to waste.. I could do something before lunch tho and make scones for lunch... Maybe tomorrow lol. I love the sound of the Bull rushes being stitched.. it would awesome. I started knitting. Doing the frill first. its 14 rows on 8 stitches, but you knit and turn on 8 of 10 of the 14 rows in the pattern. An hour and a half later the hives had come up.. Obviously its the movement of my hands and lower arms.. cos its only when I knit and crochet.. but it is nice to actually be doing something crafty. Like you Kiwimade I dont like having too many things on the go at once. Can I ask what med MrK has for his shoulder? with being on warfarin it can be a mission to find something that works.; Are you trying the Winz number or MSD? the MSD one is often faster to get through on. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-12 09:27:00 |
| Just waiting for the kettle to boil. Housework is done :D He's on pregabalin, popeye, I think it's an anti-inflammatory. He has really found it makes a difference to the movement of his shoulder. And I'm trying the Superannuation number, yesterday was such a disaster I went into town to make the appointment only to be told by the WINZ lady they can't make appointments for Super people and I have to keep trying on the phone. Was pi**** off by the time I left. Kettles boiled, time for a brew. kiwimade64 - 2021-02-12 09:55:00 |
| Thanks Kiwimade will make a note of it. Yeah its weird how they wont make appointments at the offices.. popeye333 - 2021-02-12 10:13:00 |
| morning ladies :) The Furry One has just had a huge run around with the neighbour's dog who came to visit. She can jump the gate and comes and goes. It looks like our resident blackbird and his partner have fledged another family of babies as there was a baby blackbird being fed by him on the lawn. We've lost count of how many successful babies they have had this summer but it's been quite a few. This morning I will be weeding amongst the standard roses and tiger lillies. There is a bux hedge hiding the weeds so I tend to put this garden off as it is awkward to get in and out of and to work amongst the plants. I have asked MrK to lower the hedge but he likes it higher. I've threatened to do it myself and I think I will have to do it. So much for making the garden manageable for one person. Hmmmm... now that's an angle I could use with him. I finished a David Baldacci book yesterday so I can return it to my sister-in-law next week when I see her. I had forgotten how much I enjoy reading his books even if I can figure out who did it :P I might make a start on the bullrush embroidery and do the hat again when that is finished. Having nothing in my hands yesterday was maddening. Time to get cracking. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-13 07:30:00 |
| Morning everyone Yes Kiwimade using the well I'm going to have to do it in the future so I might as well learn now has happened here. In many ways. I was cruising into a sleep in when a friend rang from Napier. She is over there for the 100th anniversary of W.I what used to be C.W.I. She got me a Calendar of the centennial year which is lovely of her. I miss C.W.I but the one up here wasnt even run properly and then died anyway. So I didnt get my sleep in lol I didnt knit last night, was feeling a bit off really.. Which also probably explains my high BSL this morning.. Dishes and washing today, and maybe some knitting... I fancy going out but if Im honest its actually a chore these days.. I dont mind the wheelchair side of it but its his clumsyness and urgency of needing a toilet etc that has really made it hard. He got up to the toilet and said he was going to lie down for a while , so thats good.. no blaring tv. 3 weeks ago I ordered some beads, cord and some elastic off Aliexpress. It arrived yesterday which was Fantastic and the elastic is awesome.. Most of the stuff you get here these days doesnt have a real stretch in it or costs the earth for the better quality. 5 yards of elastic for $2-21 is an awesome deal and I will be ordering some more. I got a round one to make into hair ties and its going to be perfect cos its really strong.....I only got one lot to see how it was before I ordered more....... Im going to look at sewing cotton too.. and will do the same cos I dont want it breaking in the overlocker. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-13 09:12:00 |
| Kiwimade your embroidery projects sound great . mica3 - 2021-02-13 18:10:00 |
| morning ladies :) I am so jealous, mica3! You have a sewing cave! Our home is too small for me to have a separate sewing/craft room so I have to keep things tidy and away. Am so glad you have found another group to knit for. Yesterday I turned my sketch of the bullrushes into more of a pattern for me to follow, picked out the colours and decided on the stitches and the order to stitch it all in. It's a pretty simple design but sometimes keeping it simple is the best way. It's meant to be another hot day here today, the fog has lifted already. Shortly I'll be outside moving a rose. Yep, I know, it's summer time but they are tough and as long as I keep it wet for a couple of days it will be fine. MrK is in pickling onions mode, I bought two bags of pickling onions for him the other day. I must admit, his pickled onions are the best I have ever had and can't wait for them to be ready for eating. If our daughter spots them she snaffles a few jars lol. Happy crafting :) Edited by kiwimade64 at 7:19 am, Sun 14 Feb kiwimade64 - 2021-02-14 07:18:00 |
| I have old friend in a wine Barrell it has had many moves it was a wedding present from my bridesmaid in 1976. I used to dig my roses up with every move and originally had 30 now only have 4. I can't garden very much anymore only have 2 raised beds and 10 big pots. huntlygirl - 2021-02-14 08:35:00 |
| Morning everyone It is lovely having a sewing cave, mine is huge cos its a family room. I do have stuff I want to get rid of tho but that wont happen until Im by myself. I think Im a bit of a hoarder but MrP is worse lol, cos he hates me getting rid of my stuff too lol. When I got the passionfruit a couple of weeks ago I saw our Ice berg roses, is such a state.. I could probably take a cutting and try them in pots.. Kiwimade when is the right time to do that? Its funny cos I love white flowers and mum hated them. I never knew why tho lol I did a little more on the frill yesterday, I think its the best way to bring my mojo back, slowly and surely . I want to go out but don't know where.. don't you just hate that lol Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-14 09:31:00 |
| I find rose cuttings are a hit and miss thing for me. Usually I take cuttings when I'm pruning but try any time. Make sure you cut the end that is going in the ground into a point so you know which end is which and pick medium sized canes to cut, not skinny little things. Keep them moist in potting mix in the shade and cross your fingers and anything that can be crossed! kiwimade64 - 2021-02-14 12:11:00 |

| morning ladies :) Roses are pretty tough eh, huntlygirl. How awesome you still have yours after all these years. I find they are value for money, they may cost a bit to start with but they are in the garden for years. And funny how some have a lot of sentimental value too. It's raining this morning and it looks like we have road works again. Poor guys (and girls!), one day it's hot as heck on the asphalt and the next it's bucketing down. I started the bullrush embroidery yesterday and I just hope it won't look too busy and crowded even though I took a lot of background out. But so far, so good. I think I have nailed the browns for the bullrush itself. Coffee is finished and the washing machine needs to be turned on. Looks like a drying rack kind of day. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-15 07:01:00 |
| Morning. Made the tough call last night to cancel the visit on Friday of my friend from Taranaki. She's a social butterfly and is always out and about and would have been on Waitangi Weekend. I asked her twice last night if she had scanned everywhere she went and I didn't get a reply, so I said we will do it again some other time. Hard cos we haven't seen each other in over 10 years but MrP is weak now he wouldn't be able to fight covid as well. Its been raining here, windy at the mo tho which is nice so its not hot. I dont any other plans for the day, washing can wait a day lol... no doubt Ill do more on the frill later. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-15 09:24:00 |
| Good Morning Everyone. It's overcast and looks like rain. Watered last night as everything very dry. Been a number of fires around the area. Busy week ahead. Have the crab apples to pick and pick them up off the ground before the birds get them all Well make some crab jelly. Popeye your friend could of been down here for the Centenary of the Country Women's Institute. I went to the Dinner and church service as my mother was member and was away in Wellington for meetings etc. I have her 50 year service badge. Sorry to hear Mr P is getting weaker.See if you can get more help etc so you can have sometime out for yourself. There is help out there. Take it. I was a nurse for a number of years and I ended up asking for help when I was nursing Mr M. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the cooler weather and the rain.Time to move now again and take my coffee mug out to the dishwasher and turn it on. Rain not far off now so better move. sunflowers28 - 2021-02-15 10:49:00 |
| Sunflowers Yes my friend was at the CWI gathering Founders day and the 100 years. She said she got me one of the 100 year calendars, I guess she might post it up now. Better get something sorted for lunch since we have to go out for the appointment. popeye333 - 2021-02-15 11:27:00 |
| Morning everyone Another wet one, the temp is quite pleasant tho. Mind you I haven't been outside yet to see if its humid lol. Well the Dr's visit was different. She must have been thinking about making MrP realize what he had done to himself. And had an Advanced care plan pack for us. She has put into ACC for his legs again. Needless to say by the time we had been out and I had to pop into the supermarket and fruit shop I was knickered , putting it bluntly cos it was soo humid. So I didnt even attempt to knit, I knew I would muck it up. The lawn people text early this morning to put that off. Just had a huge supply of pulls ups arrive for MrP... oh thats the other thing, she thinks he would be better with a Catheter, I didnt know they can put them in via the tummy.. So that will make things heaps better and installed under a local anesthetic. So she referred that yesterday too. Have a fab Day everyone, its perfect for crafting without feeling guilty. lol popeye333 - 2021-02-16 10:02:00 |
| Morning ladies, well I think I have just about recovered from my holiday. Saturday I had a market and this time I made the huge amount of $14 for sitting all day. I won't need a financial adviser to help me sort it out. Seeing as it costs $15 for the stall not exactly a resounding success. Maybe if we had known we would be back at level 2 this week I MAY have sold some face masks! Mr K Mark II had to go to Auckland yesterday as he had a doctor's appointment. As he officially still lives there he said there should be no problem getting through the check points. He said they asked where he was going and he said "home" and they just let him through. Same on the way back! However, 20 minutes before his appointment, they phoned and cancelled it, but by then he was already there, so he bought some groceries and came back. He said the weather was awful. Wasn't that great here, but not quite so bad. Everything outside is sodden, so I can't mow the weeds, and I don't feel guilty. Plan to do some sewing for a while. Yesterday I had a bit of a tidy up so the place is looking more respectable, now to try to keep it that way or even improve on it. Hmmmm! Have an awesome day everyone. kuaka - 2021-02-16 10:28:00 |
| afternoon ladies :) late posting today but it has been busy. Yesterday we were in Raglan visiting MrK's sisters as they are having a week away there. Was blustery and wet but that didn't matter, we weren't going to go anywhere else. I've done the supermarketing and omg, I admit it, I love level 2 lol. So easy to blat round and get what we needed and everyone was so friendly. This afternoon I might sit and do more to the bullrushes. I'm tacking the outline to make it easier to see what I'm doing. I have the black thread I need for the 1920's hat so once the bullrushes are done I can make a belated start on that. Take care and happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-16 12:42:00 |
| morning ladies :) Last evening we had a pink rainbow! I have never seen one before and it was sheer fluke I looked out when it it was there. It didn't last long but I did manage to take a pic of it :) https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/1489985685.jpg The weather seems to have cleared and the lawn has appreciated the rain by growing. So I will mow it this morning. We had really strong wind yesterday and leaves off the massive trees on the farm behind us have been blown off and up onto our property. So they can be mown up too and will make great compost. Popeye, MrK and I have been discussing what will happen when he falls off his perch and are putting plans into action now. He's doing an inventory of his tools and timber and is showing me more and more how what to do with them. It's something that needs to be done while we have our faculties and can make decisions ourselves. Our kids know where our wills and Power of Attorney are and what's what. MrK is even talking about what he wants for his funeral. Yes, that may be a while yet but at least it is semi organised. Like Missy, the Furry One will miss him dreadfully but he is getting old now so he may not even be here when the time comes. What a disappointment, kuaka, with the market. I bet you are wondering if they are worth the effort now. I've finished tacking out my picture and started doing some embroidery yesterday. So far, so good. Am hoping to do some more today. happy crafting :) Edited by kiwimade64 at 7:09 am, Wed 17 Feb kiwimade64 - 2021-02-17 07:03:00 |
| Morning everyone, Yeah Kiwimade we have always known what we wanted, but had never thought about where we would want to be well mainly MrP when we died. My twin rang yesterday for a catch up, he had misread my post on FB and he said you know me Ill ask if I want to know something.. I said yes but you misread what Id written lol.. We talked for well over an hour lol. I took MrPs sample down and ended up staying there for quite a while. Id woken up to find my ear had bled over night and did again when I touched it. So I went through triage and its inflamed and being on warfarin of course that meant Antibiotics. Didn't know you could get them in drop form.. It is relieving it which is good. So once again I didn't get any knitting done cos it was close to 2pm when I got home and of course I hadnt taken my bag so I didn't have my jellybeans so I was shaking by the time I got home lol. Ohh Kuaka how disappointing re the market, the last one I did was like that. I spent more than I made, I didnt make enough to cover the stall. That was several years ago now. And I still have stuff from it lol. So disappointing that the Art deco weekend has been cancelled Sunflowers.. That's something I want to visit for one day. Have only been to Napier once. Drove from Putaruru down to Palmerston North and over to Napier in one day. Went out to a bar cos there was a big game on, I think it might have been a rugby world cup, and left as soon as we were up in the morning, so I didnt see anything of the place really. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-17 09:22:00 |
| Morning ladies, yes kiwimade, I was ready to quit the markets at the end of last season, when covid kicked in and two cruise ships were diverted back to Sydney, missing the Bay of Islands. We certainly dodged a bullet there! At least at the moment it's only two Saturdays a month. On Sunday though we went to Russell for lunch and looked at the craft market there, it was quite busy with "lookers" (potential customers) and there was a good variety of stalls, whereas ours is mostly knitters/crocheters and one lady who sells crystals. Occasionally we have someone who calls themselves an artist (debatable) and someone who does jewellry or pottery, but mostly it's just a bunch of old ladies sitting knitting so people often look in the door and turn round and go away. And for me, we start far too early, we have to be there at 7.30 to set up by 8 and often nobody comes in till 9 or 10. I'm pretty much over it. I keep trying to think of something different to make but not a lot of luck so far. I am trying to seriously declutter in preparation of my eventual demise, but so far I'm not all that successful and in fact while I was away, I managed to cram an awful lot of wool into my already full suitcase! I must start to get rid of stuff I don't want/need/use. I've sold some stuff on facebook, mainly anchors, and heavy marine stuff that would be hard to ship. I advertised one anchor for $60 and some chap asked if I would take $70 for it. Yep. He came and picked it up and went away quite happy. I sold a crayfish pot and the lady who bought it said she was going to use it as a lampshade. She must have a better imagination than I have. Right, time to get organised. Stitch and bitch this morning, then check the mail, and the car needs petrol. Have an awesome day everyone. kuaka - 2021-02-17 09:27:00 |
| Good Morning , Raining since yesterday and has not let up. We needed the rain. Will know at 5pm if Art Deco is going ahead. The Napier Taupo Road is closed still. Thanks for sharing the pink rainbow kiwimade.Use to see some lovely rainbows around area. Good that Mr K is showing you how to use the tools and making a list of what he has. Popeye, good you are looking at the large page and thinking of things you want to do. Good on you. sunflowers28 - 2021-02-17 10:58:00 |
| Funny how the brain works, while I was vacuuming I suddenly thought the the heck will happen to stuff when I go lol. I only really have a couple of friends to leave things too, but I think Ill give them to them earlier rather than after lol.. MrP said sell up and have a trip somewhere, which is actually a really good idea lol.. Its funny cos one of the hardest things will be my big platters etc that I used to use for catering. Cos they werent cheap and I love them lol.. Haven't even used them up here so that's over 16 years lol So Ill make them alone something that will mean heaps to me.. All this time we have thought about MrP's stuff etc but never thought of what ill have left. Might have to donate all my craft stuff when the fingers wont work anymore. And that would bring me alot of joy lol popeye333 - 2021-02-17 12:34:00 |
| morning ladies :) Some drama this morning, the Furry One killed his first possum. He shot outside at around 3.00am and was barking like mad so we knew something was bailed up in amongst MrK's timber. We locked him inside but he was restless right through the rest of the night and shot outside when I got up at 6.00am. One possum dispatched with a little help from MrK. By sheer chance I have a hole dug for another rose to be moved. Guess where that possum is going lol. I told the possum last time it visited it would end up under a rose bush!! The adoption law is being reviewed. It may not mean much to lots but to me, and others in my situation, it will mean the world. Lots of tears when I read this. It should not have taken for the development of DNA 'reading' for me to find out, at the very least, my medical history. Every time I took life insurance, during my pregnancies, smears, mammograms, any health aspect, they ask about family history. Not knowing and having no way to find out was awful. And just as hard for our kids. I did connect with some of my birth family in 2019 thanks to a DNA kit and I have answers to most of my questions and not just about health. It's a delicate topic but I for one, am sick of treading on eggshells over it. Let's deal with the emotional harm (and my God there is plenty of that!) and move forward. Sorry for the rant but this is so dear to my heart. I thought about selling up too when MrK falls off his perch, popeye. Just another option :) Still working on my bullrushes. I work the background first which can be tricky to spot with all the leaves mixed up. So it's a slow process. Happy crafting :) Edited by kiwimade64 at 8:11 am, Thu 18 Feb kiwimade64 - 2021-02-18 08:10:00 |
| Morning everyone Well done Kiwimade Males in the house.. You reminded me about the time our Foxy and lab had one caught up the tree and for some unknown reason the idiot came down the tree... Dogs thought it was fun but I was the one that had to bath both of them lol. I think adoptions etc should provide DNA when they are handed in to be adopted, manditory.. The idea is well in my head Kiwimade. I have always wanted to travel more, and well MrP hasn't be any further than from here to Hamilton in the last 16 years. And he wont fly, and I want to see alot more of New Zealand and the world. Had an interesting chat with the nurse that came to dress MrPs leg yesterday. I didnt hear fully but he said his Dad was given a body part from his own brother. Im thinking heart, cos His father never ate seafood, and his brother did.. and his father ended up eating them cos it changed his system. id have loved to hear more so Im hoping its the same nurse tomorrow. Still no crafting for me, but it will always be there... I look at my garden and l know I need to get that sorted.. Theres always another day. Generally lol Have a fab day all popeye333 - 2021-02-18 08:31:00 |
| morning ladies :) Another gorgeous day here today. Housework first and then I have a few errands to do in town. The Furry One needs more meds amongst other things. Yesterday morning someone using a digger cut the fiber cable and there was no internet from Morrinsville down to Tokoroa. So it was a very quiet day here, we couldn't even send text messages or access phone data. I guess someone will have a hefty Chorus bill to pay as the internet came back on around 5.30pm. I have finished all the leaves on the bullrushes and am now working on the flowers. I'm using French Knots and am happy with the effect. Not my favourite stitch as it can be hard on my fingers but it should be worth the effort. Happy crafting :) kiwimade64 - 2021-02-19 07:20:00 |
| Morning everyone Oh Kiwimade that's going to cost someone Big time. It would be bad enough for normal people but Business's wouldnt be happy. and people who only have mobiles for safety etc must have been worried. We had a good day ish yesterday. MrP came to town since we changed level. And he came into PnS. Only caught his thumb in the wheel once, both his thumbs have pins in them to keep them straight so hes having to learn how to get around them. Got home and I was as flat as a pancake, so other than putting away the cold stuff away I didn't do anything else, and then of course the nurse rang and I had to go get an urgent script for MrP he has another infection. The ACC nurse will be here today. There's only three in our Franklin area. I could Never do French knots Kiwimade, no matter how I tried. And I gave it alot of tries. Being a Taurean as you are you will know how we dont like to give in to things but that is one thing I didnt learn. When I worked in sewing factories I was the only one ( my mistake) who could use the blind hemmer machine. I hated it but I could work it. So Muggins here got that if they were needed.. And leaning how to do collars drove me to tears, but I got it sussed in the end lol. A bit of housework here too, between the carer and nurse coming lol. Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2021-02-19 08:47:00 |
