I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

Fingers crossed for you Kiwimade... wow 2 ply on 4mm needles will feel strange.

My drs appointment has been postponed till Wednesday, the Drs sick lol.. I shouldn't laugh cos I know they are human but I think its the first time Ive had my appointment cancelled cos the dr is sick.

Took the santas to the lab and supermarket anyway. Lots of nice comments.
We are both diabetic too carol... Im the only one in my family, but I live in hope one of my brothers becomes it too, not nastily, just so Im not so different to them. My twin told me the other day he has grown a ganglion, sounds like the same place as mine. They are hereditary in our family.

I measured the Magic square blanket mum made me this morning. Its a nice size. So will be downsizing my blanket to the same size. Its still big enough to snuggle the whole body under.

Best of luck Kiwimade with your applications.
It's surprising that Drs are not sick more often, especially over winter imagine sitting in an office all day with a steady stream of people coughing and sneezing over you - they probably build up the best immunity of everyone lol.
Walked into town to get longer circular needles this am as finding I need them if experimenting with knitting 2 at a time using magic loop, of course they didn't have any longer than what I already have but on the way home had inspiration "why not try on line" so have placed my first order with Deramores the needles were 1/4 the price of in the local shops and of course had to get the free postage! :) I was wanting wool anyway to knit for niece's small girls so great opportunity. The walk did me good even if ended up spending considerably more than I had set out to do.

thanks carol and popeye :) Fingers crossed! My docs been sick when MrK has been in to see him and has had to see a ring-in instead. Us teachers get pretty sick too, I wish parents would keep their kids home when they are sick. I know it's hard - I'm a mum too and have been through it all. I've never been as sick as what I was last year and one winter during a practicum while teaching. It also took three terms for the chicken pox to work it's way through my class last year. Just as well begining teachers get loads of sick leave!
Daughter phoned today to say baby is kicking like crazy :), she wonders if her kidneys will survive the kicking lol. Sounds just like her brother when I was pregnant with him. She's hoping to come and visit (code for stay lol) towards the end of the week :)
Hardly any knitting done today, I've been going through her clothes which she has left here and packing them up for her to take back with them. Slowly but surely emptying out her old room :P
Happy knitting :)

Hi carolev. When is your birthday? Mine is on Saturday 13th.
Sister rung on Sunday night wanting to know where i wanted to go for the family brunch. She is making the arrangements, just like i did the arranging last week for hers.

Hi Whiskey mine is the 23rd and no one will be doing any thing for me I don't count for much in my family's eyes. been sick most of the night so sat up in bed knitting, we have a frost today only 3rd for this winter

Morning all... I always feel sorry for Drs and teachers cos they are at the front line of everyone elses bugs.
I agree and wish people would stay home and keep kids home. To be fair to everyone else.
I somehow managed to get shingles last year.. Nasty Nasty illness. so Im pumping in the vit C and L-Lycine, apparently both help keep things at bay.
Our chemist is the one who fixed me from that, when I went in for my anti-virals he told me to go home, Curl up on the couch and only get up to go to toilet and bed. Strict rest. It helped, I was back to normal in about 3 weeks.
I would rather have my gall stones and heart surgery again than have shingles again.
It felt like I had a vice from my ribcage at the front around the left side to my spine.
I feel much better today, had a flat day yesterday.
Started the groom last night, so will work on him today.

1610

morning ladies :) sometimes the chemist has more info than the doctor - esoecially when it comes to medication. I have often been told more about MrKs meds from the chemist than the doctor. But then, I suppose that is what they have trained for.
omg popeye, you have had a rough time. I've never had shingles but I have heard how nasty it is.
Whiskey and carol, is that the 13th and 23rd of this month? oohhhhh PARTYY time here or on FB lol. Can't let your birthdays slide by :)
One last push to sort daughter's stuff today so it's 'good to go' and maybe some knitting. The lace is coming along slowly but surely.
Happy knitting :)

Well so far, so good regarding winter ills this year, (touch wood) but I know what you mean about shingles popeye. My other half got it about 10 years ago down the side of his face, and the doc told him that if you're over 70 when you get it and if the pain lasts more than 3 months, you're not likely to ever get rid of the pain. He's still got it.

On the knitting front, we had arranged to meet someone yesterday as we were all going out for the day. Knowing there was a chance we'd be at the arranged meeting place early I took my crochet with me - well I took the yarn, forgot to take the hook, so I had to sit and do some knitting which I also had with me. When we got home, I decided to do some crochet and after a couple of rows realised I was using the wrong size hook, so had to unravel it, so the crochet hasn't progressed. Never mind. Freezing cold here, but sunny so it might warm up later.

Lots of birthdays this month. Was MrPs on Saturday, my stepfathers on sunday and my nephews on Monday.

No frost here thank goodness but it was a raw cold till the sun got around a bit. Fingers have thawed now.

Lol Kuaka at not taking the hook with you, does this mean we should all be having a craft bag in the car for emergencies lol. I knitted when MrP had his MRI. Would have read if it was only me, but my Friend drove us up there.
I don't seem to have achieved much this morning, have got parcels wrapped and did a few rows of knitting. Maybe the time just went to quick lol... Ohh that's right I moved the buttons on MrPs jammies tops... I knew Id done something else. lol.
Chat time for a while now and then back to the knitting before I make him some rissoles for tea. Im thinking toad n the hole for me, but it might not happen lol

Morning all.. Pleased to see you in the knatty knitters carol.

Got the grooms main body piece and his arms done yesterday.

Which is a miracle, later in the day one of MrPs nephews found me on facebook. He was our "loaned" son. He lived with us for a while when he was a teenager. Came to us with very little respect for himself let alone anyone else. Went back to his Parents a lovely boy. Hes married with kids now..
Hes sooo far away tho, we are in Waiuku , he is in Invercargill. But we can keep in touch at least now.
Off to the drs today... Hope he doesn't cough his bugs around.

Have a good day all

Morning ladies! Great to see you in Knatty Knitters Carol :)
Must be a day for the docs, taking MrK off to see our doc today, he has an infection and the last infection came a cat's whisker from killing him. So not taking any chances.
I spotted the bird pattern (sewing) in a thread here in Crafts and Hobbies and have printed off the pattern... going to have a tutu with that today. Wondered if I used the old Canteen bandanas we have and might reduce the size to make Christmas birds for the Christmas tree. Someone else has suggested using it as a door stop...oohhh... I could do that with plain fabric and use crewel embroidery to make out the wings etc.... sigh... I am sooo going to hate going back to work when I get a job lol. So much to do... so little time :)
Happy knitting!

Cold and wet day here - very slow out of bed this am but not exactly being a sloth as sitting knitting and keeping warm.

I agree Kiwimade there is so much which can be done craftwise and now I am retired I can't think how I ever fitted in full time work - although I have always done crafts the output has increased considerably since retiring.

Hope all the doctor visits go ok for those going today

Keep warm and crafty everyone.

Hello all, hope you are all warm and cosy today, we have intermittent sunshine but some big dark clouds are rolling in.
Have started at baby waistcoat in 4ply and still working on the teddy bear. Gone are the days I used to be able to make one in 3 nights, my fingers aren't as supple as they used to be :(
Thinking good thoughts for all those heading to dr today, have the sniffles myself but not too bad at the moment.
I'm off to sit in the sun while we still have some xo

Hi all.... Am happy to report my new Dr is great. We have come to an agreement with my diabetes and metformin, so hopefully all going well Ill be off the metformin at Christmas. if I get my act together and stop being naughty.
My only whimper rather than grumble is they waiting room was sooo hot that its given me a huge headache. Went into the lab and that was set at 22 degrees and felt lovely after being in the waiting room.

I have to giggle about all of us sitting and knitting in bed... But I figure why heat a room to sit and knit in when the bed and electric blanket works just as well.
Hope MrK is caught in time Kiwimade.
Stay well and warm everyone

that's great news popeye :) MrK has a dose of antibiotics and hopefully that will do the trick. If it's not cleared up in a few days he has to go back.
I'm teaching tomorrow :) :) so no knitting until tomorrow evening for me. Have spent some time this afternoon planning and then had a visitor so not much knitting done today either.
Happy knitting :)

hi Popeye - Metformin plays havoc with me. I know where all the toilets are in Central Otago and on the Sunshine coast in Australia.lol. I take 2 in the morning and two at teatime. Why did I have to get this dreaded diabetes. There is no one else in my family and I am not overweight. I go to the pool three days a week and aqua jog for an hour each time and take our wee dog "Harry" for a walk each day. Am busy knitting baby clothes for the local wool and fabric shop. The money gets recycled as I buy wool for myself. Have a great knitty night everyone. Feels like another wicked frost coming tonight.

I accompanied my other half to the doc today (he's quite deaf and often doesn't hear everything so I go along so we don't miss anything). His bp has been very high, and they have finally decided he needs some help to bring it down. Other than that, it's been a beautiful day, lots of sun (a couple of brief but heavy showers) but the wind has been very cold. Did some crochet today at our knitting session, but had people round for tea, so didn't do anything earlier. Have to make up for it tomorrow.

Morning all.. Good to hear about a days work Kiwimade, enjoy it... One thing about knitting, it will always be there waiting for attention. Hope the Abs fix mrK up real soon.

Kuaka MrP and I have always gone to the drs together. I have the bad hearing and he only listens like a man lol. Between us we get the whole story. Not good re the high BP... Here was me yesterday saying how mine is normally always good, so Dr took It and it was a little higher than normal lol.. But it was soo hot in there that would have affected it I reckon.
Floss, I was a lucky one and didn't have the problems with the metformin when I started taking it. When I was stressed over mum being sick and making trips to hospitals and eating badly they increased my dose and I had the problems.
Im the only one in our family with it too. but am overweight, I lost 30 kilos last year. but some has crept back on, so today I start again.
Not easy when I have the INR readings to work to as well. Cant have too much iron cos it can clogg my heart valve, so on warfarin, need fruit and veges to be a good diabetic but cant have them lol.

I don't want my kidneys to pack up like MrPs and if I can get rid of any of my medication I will work hard to do it.

Shopping this morning.. Have a lovely day all

popeye333 - 2013-07-11 08:32:00
1633

Wow popeye 30 kilos - you must have worked really hard to lose that much weight, it's always easier to put on than take off. I've lost one kilo since we bought that torture machine which goes by the name of 'treadmill' but I would like to lose another 4. I think I will need to work really hard, or else sew my mouth shut for a week. Going to try to get back to the tunic I'm knitting for myself - I've got to the shaping up the neck and armholes on the front, and there seemed to be something to do on just about every row, cables every 6 rows, and the front and armhole shaping on different rows for different amounts of repeats until x number of stitches and I got confused, wrote it out, and then next time I looked at it, I couldn't make any sense of what I'd written, so now I will have to go back and count the stitches to try to figure out where I'm up to and try to finish it. I really want to wear it.

kuaka - 2013-07-11 09:28:00
1634

It got hard near the 30 kilos Kuaka. And I simply just ate as a diabetic should and cut my portions of everything down. But I got slack and lazy and have put some back on.
But I am determined to get what I put back on, off. Id like to lose at least 25 kilos for the next lot.
Sadly using my torture implements is hard for me. I cant stand too long cant sit too long and cant really do arm stuff.
We have been waiting for over five years for the pool to be built at the school across the road. I guess it will happen eventually. They had to have our ok that it could go there, it will cut out a lot of evening sun (yay) lol.. then we can exercise in the pool and not hurt the bad bits soo much.

Ohh annoying with the sorting out where you are at.... My blanket has come to a screaming halt at the mo. I downloaded a really good book on the ereader and then discovered I had the next part too. So doing a lot more reading.. Its rare for me to read a series in order. I usually manage to read them back to front or all muddled up. I read a full Nora Roberts series back to front, by fluke but it still made sense lol

popeye333 - 2013-07-11 11:42:00
1635

popeye, where do you download books from, and how much does it cost you to download them? I've been thinking about buying an ereader (also thinking about an ipad - can't decide whether I can justify the expense of either of them)

kuaka - 2013-07-11 13:49:00
1636

kuaka, i get onto amazon and look at all the free download books. And a website calle pixelofink will send you an email each day of free downloads.
I'm reading Nora Roberts as well popeye, but the "In Death" series she writes as J.D.Robb. There are about 37 in the series. I will start getting all her books thou. And as for justifying the expense kuaka, i'd say the price you paid for an ereader that holds 3000 books will repay itself with the savings on books you download. In the shops your'd pay upto $35 on amazon they are as cheap as $12. or free.

Yup I use the amazon fee ones too. I have about 250 in one of my e-readers now. I also have a tablet so that I can use our library e-books too. Not that I have yet cos Im getting plenty from amazon free.

For me its convenience of free books and not having to carry 10-12 books home from the library every 3-4 weeks. Im a fast reader so need plenty to keep me going.
The one I use the most is a Parallel import Kindle I got from Warehouse stationery. Love it. I got a nice cover for it from here and it slips into the handbag nice and easy

morning ladies :) Sorry to hear you are unwell carol, hope you are feeling better today.
Going to clean some mould off the bathroom ceiling today (yuckkk!!!), it's not too bad but if I get rid of it now it's not such a huge job. Had a lovely day in the classroom yesterday - great kids!
Will keep plodding on with my lace for the baby's shawl, just over a quarter of the way now. Or... might just get the sewing machine out lol and sew those birds... or... maybe I'll do some more stumpwork... oh damm.. the choices lol. Daughter and her partner are visiting sometime over the weekend which will be awesome as I haven't seen her with her 'popped out' tummy lol. She's keeping a lot better now and sleeping well (finally!).
Happy knitting :)

Morning all, yes Im ok after the accident lol... Id wouldn't have been tempted if it had been for the sake of buying wool, but since it was the wool we had chosen for MrPs cardy I took advantage of the sale.
Glad you had a good day yesterday Kiwimade... Just in time before the holidays too.
Ick Mould. I have to admit I clean my windows broken into sections, so its not a huge job either. We have a dehumidifier but it doesn't completely get rid of the damp.
Woke up this morning and could barely walk, slept too long in one position, but meds have helped. so a quiet day today.
Oooh bet you are looking forward to seeing your girl Kiwimade... and offloading more of her things lol.
Have a good day all

hehehe popeye, yep, have two big suitcases full of her clothes good to go! Just need a couple of boxes for her boots and shoes (oomgg that girl loves her boots lol, just like her mum hehehe). And hopefully, that will be all of it.
I have a bassinette to repaint but MrK has to do a couple of wee repairs on it first - was daughter's partners when he was a baby and MrK is stripping down recycled rimu to make a changing table for her. Hence all the You Tube videos he's been watching lol - checking out different woodworking techniques... and he grumbled about the amount of time I spent online!! ppffttt!!
happy knitting :)

Lol Kiwimade, just think of the new things he can do with his new found knowledge... Can keep him busy with projects and he wont notice how much time you are on the computer.
I like natural wood, especially rimu. But I have a clothes stand that I want MrP to paint... I should bring it out and glue the lose dowel and maybe it will give him the hint lol.

Have finished knitting the Bride and Groom. Have got about 8 cms on the first stip of my blanket to do. So will finish that today and then sew toys up later tonight.

Hi Carol... omggg yesss!! I'm going to be a nana for the first time middle of September :) We are sooo excited lol... so I'm blitzing the baby knitting. When our daughter asked me to knit for baby, she didn't have to ask twice! Was in a Sally's shop and talking to one of the ladies there and she said her daughter-in-law said she didn't want hand knitted garments for her baby. Couldn't believe it lol... this lady was pretty stunned too.
What have you got carol and are you sure you want to part with them? I already have a portable cot, highchair, stroller thingy, nappies, and my handknitted stuff (I've posted pics of them in our FB page).
And you're right popeye, he disappears into his mancave and spends hours making things. He has heaps of recycled timber to work through! I suppose it is his 'stash' lol.
Happy knitting. :)

Hi all

Fancy not wanting hand knitting for baby. I think there is nothing nicer than seeing a little one in hand knitted clothes - makes them look so loved. My nieces all put in their orders as soon as they know there is another little one on the way which keeps me busy enough.
Been helping a friend hem curtains today not so keen on sewing as on knitting but good to see the curtains hanging at the windows.
Will spend the evening using up scraps of 4ply making prem beanies. I tend to stick to 4ply and DK and go happily between each don't really like knitting with anything thicker than DK except when making slippers for felting which is 2 strands 10ply using "tree trunks" to knit with (actually 6mm needles) so tend to do these in batches.

what a wee darling carol :) I'll have to check with daughter and see what she wants/needs, thank you so much for your kind offer. I don't know if she has vests yet (suspect she hasn't lol).
jayemtoo, I kinda got the impression the lady's daughter-in-law prefered 'labelled' clothing. Heaven help her when the baby grows lol, those labelled/designer clothes can be expensive.
Not a lot planned for today (makes a nice change) so will have some craft time I think.
Happy knitting :)
