pencil signatures on stamps In my old box of stamps I have come across several which had been used on pay slips? from( I think) my mother when she was nursing prior to WW2 and/or overseas during the war overseas . They have been ripped off the paper and signed on. Does this mean they are now valueless and should be heaved or worth saving. If so do I soak them?

Collecting Butterflies And Insects On Stamps ... Has anyone any idea where I can get a secondhand copy of this book, any condition? I have been told it is an out-of-print Stanley Gibbons.

Stamp Shops Are there any good ones in Auckland where you can actually walk in and look at lots of stock?

Not interested in the "dentist waiting room" high end dealers type places.

Want somewhere full of weird and wonderful things I can look at.

Specialist Insurer anyone? Cannot find a regular insurer who will cover my stamp collection as value is too high. Does anyone have the name of a solid specialist insurance company they know of? Looks like most options seem to be overseas and I'm a bit reluctant to wrangle with that.

Insurance Have you tried AMI. I have my collection insured with them as a specified item on my contents policy. I have found them quite good to deal with and my collection is quite sizable. Hope this is of some help.

stamp Club Really I'd like to find out more about the value of N.Z cancellations from 1904 to 1920 issued from Central Hawkes Bay and numerous other long since closed Post Offices in Hawkes Bay
I have 100's of Post Cards purchased at an auction when the Te Aute General store closed its doors after a 100 years of trading.
This was well over 20 years ago and at the time a stamp collector I was bidding against was very keen for me to sell him the 700 or so Postcards I had bought that day
Can anyone assist me find out more about this?
Thanks.

Re 1588. stamp Club Cancellations on postcards Hi Marion, There is a book by Richard Wooders which prices every postmark in NZ but unluckily for you it retails at nearly $100. this is the book all postmark collectors use. perhaps your local Library has or can get a copy. it is called "The 1998 New Zealand Post Offices Cancellation & Postmark guide". I sell copies in my shop and despite the price it is very popular. The postcards themselves will also have a value especially if they show real photo images of NZ towns and places. Take a look at the trademe section of postcards to see an idea of what they can be worth.
Kind regards,
Steven

NZ Forever Stamp I see the secret issue from NZ Post is a Forever stamp. The stamp's price will rise with inflation, so has no value printed on it.

Forever Stamp Yes Fredrika, that is how it works even if you keep the stamp for 50 years you can still use it on a standard letter (if such a thing exists then). Many countries have started using these stamps. It means that they don't need to print small value stamps when postage goes up which is expensive for them. I guess most people use up stamps quite quickly on mail so NZ Post wouldn't miss out on much profit.

Forever Stamp Keep an eye out for your NZ Post Mail from Wanganui Stamp Centre .The one I got today has a Forever stamp used as postage on it, with a nice First Day of Issue Pictorial cancel saying 'Kiwi Stamp' FDI 7 Sept 2009.

Not quite... Obviously as postage costs rise we will have to pay more for the Forever stamp. What this really means is that NZ post wont ever ever ever have to issue any further issues. AS stated in the paper today, its more like having a prestamped envelope, just you pay more as the cost of the postage goes up. Its the end of stamp collecting as we are use to it as I predict they wont be issuing any new sets in any great hurry. Blame it on e mail, texting etc. The fact is people live very fast busy lifes now and just dont send letters like they use to even five years ago. The good news is that it may have just made current NZ stamp collections increase in value. Just my view and as I no longer collect NZ, its dont realy a great concern.

First day of Issue Which will still be for sale in two years time no doubt... Fisrt Day covers use to be just that when I was a kid collecting them. What a joke.
