I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

Welcome to this thread carolev.

I haven't been on in a while - still having laptop troubles and my desk top is so slow it's just a pain to go into another room and use it. I have had Windows reinstalled but I don't think it's sorted the problem although everything was okay last night and today it seems all right but I haven't been on it much. Would love to get a 'tablet' especially as I'm going away but just a bit too much expense at the moment. My girlfriend is taking her 'tablet' so hopefully I'll be able to check in here occasionally.

We leave 7.00 am next Saturday - have to be at the airport at 5.00 am - yikes! that's going to be a bit hard as I'm usually a night owl. Will have to go to bed early Friday night that's for sure.

Tuesday night just gone, I went to a knitting group that I used to go to 3-4 years ago. Stopped going for various reasons (mainly one person who has now left, lol). Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It's lovely to see all the knitting that others are doing. And what is even more enjoyable is to see all the young ones that go - in fact I'd say most are in their 30s and outnumber us oldies.

Finally started packing my bag today. It seems weird sorting out summer clothes - in fact I was worried I wouldn't fit in to them, lol. Some don't fit quite as well as they used to!

Will sit and knit tonight (still doing the socks for myself) and watch the Crusaders v Highlanders. Go! the Crusaders :-)

Nice to see you Pats..

Glad you have a nice group to go to.

This will drag, till you leave. Always remember pack and then take out half what you have packed .

Lol popeye. I try to tell myself that but it doesn't always work. Today, once I had the main things in, every time I wanted to put something else in, I made myself take something out - lol.

Forgot to say, Santa looks great. Hope he enjoys his trip to the supermarket, lol.

Cooled down a bit here so am going to ramp the heat pump up a bit.

pats3 - 2013-06-29 16:06:00

Morning all. A very heavy wet frost here this morning.

The worst thing about trips is coming home and having to unpack lol... I used to put the washing in the laundry and then live out of the bag till it was empty .
Have a huge headache this morning. Maybe too much concentrating yesterday.
I did get Mrs Claus body finished as hoped so that's good. Nothing done on the blanket last night tho. I read instead.

Hope you all have a good day

Don't think there was a frost here, well if there was I was too late getting up to see it, but it was only 8 degrees in the family/dining/kitchen so I immediately put the heat pump on and then set about lighting the woodfire. Hubby is busy checking his lotto ticket but he's not making the right sounds so I guess we didn't strike the big one. Have to do some housework today and then hopefully some knitting. It looks like it's going to be a glorious day, sunny, no wind at the moment - if only we didn't live on the wrong side of the hill it would be lovely (we don't get the sun at this time of the year)

kuaka - 2013-06-30 10:10:00
1556

Oh well kuaka, that's makes two of us lol, I never have much luck with Lotto. been busy knitting the baby's shawl, it's quite a misson to do this main piece, keep counting down how many more rows I have to do lol. I'll be halfway around the main piece soon :).. go me lol.
Our daughter just called to say she made my choc chip biscuit receipe and had to kick her fiance out of the kitchen while she made them as he was eating the dough lol. Kinda reminded me of her and her brother when they were younger, pinching the dough when they thought I wasn't looking. Of course I knew lmao. I've had lots of requests from both kids now for my receipes - I guess they forgot I made them both a receipe book when they left home and the receipes are all in there!
Happy knitting :)

Morning all... I hope everyone enjoyed the fine weather and had a good weekend.
I set myself a target for the knitting yesterday and reached it. So I shall Do the hair and hopefully start the skirt today.

Looks like another good day here so have stripped the beds...

Have a good day all

morning ladies! Foggy and chilly here this morning but I did see a little bit of blue through the fog earlier. Have about an hour and a half worth of weeding to do and I'll be finished (hopefully) for spring - this is the first time since the kids were small I have been able to garden during the winter!
I set myself targets too popeye, especially when knitting bigger projects and I reached mine yesterday too. Quite satisfying :)
Two more 'sleeps' with our sister's dog and the bed is mine... all mine I tell ya... Ok... so I share it with the Furry One as well but at least he lets me sleep!
Happy knitting :)

Thick fog here too and only 10 degrees in the family/dining/kitchen when I got up. Didn't take me long to get the woodfire started, it hasn't really warmed up yet, but it won't be long now, the fire is blazing. Can't see any blue sky here, and I won't be gardening until the weather warms up, and I can't see me getting up on the roof again for a while, but never mind. I can potter round the house and do some knitting when I feel like it.

Morning all
Just put second load of washing on the line and it's drying nicely, it is a lovely day here.
How did we ever learn things before youtube? I have learnt several new knitting techniques from there over the past month. Spent a while yesterday getting my head around knitting 2 socks at a time using the magic loop and toe up finally managed it after about 10 false starts as I was also learning Judy's magic cast on at the same time. The socks are growing nicely now and certainly good to be able to do them both at once might have to resort to youtube again to get past the heel.
Should be following your example Kiwimade and get some garden done but also have curtains to make so probably will do those as they have been on the "to do" list for a couple of weeks now as I seem to get sidetracked on to the knitting instead, my "just one more row" can turn into several cms - need to learn a bit more discipline lol.

jayemtoo - 2013-07-01 11:24:00
1561

I've come back inside, it's still foggy! Have finished the weeding and now need a nice fine wind-free day to spray where we park the cars and a few spots in the garden. I even pulled the bean fence down and weeded along our vegie plots. Feels really good to have all that done.
I know exactly what you mean jayemtoo lol... just a minute, let me finish this row... one more row to finish this repeat.... hehehehe

kiwimade64 - 2013-07-01 11:36:00
1562

Theres a very messy garden here that needs clearing if anyone is bored lol. We will spray it soon.
Our nice day has clouded over and got very dull. Had a few spits on the window.
But had got my washing in just a few mins before. Will pop it in the dryer to finish it off tonight and warm the house a little down that end.
Have only managed an hours knitting, what with everything else..

Bob my cat knows what I mean when I tell him just let me finish this row, before I had him some bikkies lol

1563

Hello all. What an amazing day we had today. It was almost like summer again. Been busy all wknd crocheting up some beanie orders, and now I have another 3 to make. One for my grandson and the other two for my daughter's friend, for her two boys. Never a dull moment.

I am off to the computer hub tomorrow so can get on broadband and think I may have to check out Deramores and have a peek at their wool. Oh I live in fear! lol

1564

Morning everyone.. Lol dweeble, you just be carefull with that deramores site lol. It is fantastic but dangerous to the health of the credit card.

I got the hair done and started on the skirt of Mrs Claus, as Id hoped yesterday.
Will knit this morning and Ill also take some to do while Im waiting for MrP to have his MRI. That's not till the afternoon.
Have a good day all

1565

morning :) Don't know if I'll get much knitting done today but I finished the 50th repeat of the bigger piece of the baby's shawl... only 40 to go lol. I try to aim for 10 repeats a day... sigh... it's only garter stitch and 16 rows to a repeat and you would think I would be quicker at knitting but noooo... must be a 2ply thing!
Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-07-02 08:44:00
1566

I think garter stitch is slow too Kiwimade.. Its like two rows make one , in a way.
My blanket is growing slowly. but I only knit it at night watching tv in bed. Its my, you don't have to concentrate to do it. When the adds come on I shut my eyes and knit lol...

I have been knitting hoody jackets for my 2 youngest granddaughters. had a eye op last moth so can't see to sew but knit by feel doing mittens and beanie for grandson kindy teacher I don't have a pattern but so far looks ok. I have heaps of odd balls of wool any ideas what to make?

HI All

Talk about a gloomy grey day.. and its getting cold.

Popped over to Puke for the Buy of the week, 2 packs of water filters for $20 at the warehouse. Normally $17-$20 for a single one. Will be set for the year on those now.
Took MrP out for brunch for his birthday early, is on Saturday.
Managed to get the skirt and shawl finished last night. So I only have the heart shaped pockets, a candy cane and the holly leaves and berries to knit and then to make her up. They wont get to go to supermarket tomorrow, but will go to the med centre on Monday. Then maybe to the supermarket after that.
Ouchies to the eye op Carol, that cant have been pleasant at all.

MrPs MRI went well, they found his brain lol... said they got some good pictures of the problem, so fingers crossed what ever it is, is treatable. Have to wait for results.

Have a good day all.

1569

afternoon ladies :) Finally got the laptop - MrK has discovered You Tube and woodworking tutorials lol... just have to teach him to use the headphones, hard enough on the hearing when he's outside using his planer etc but hearing it on the laptop as well gets a bit much!
Hope your op went well carol, amazing isn't it how we can knit by touch. I do it when watching TV. My sister couldn't believe it the other week when we were talking and I was knitting and keeping track of rows. As for the odds and ends... ooohh I know the feeling, not enough to knit a whole item but too much to throw out. Maybe some granny squares? There must be some patterns for tiny knits somewhere (there are tiny patterns for sewing).
Hopefully someone will have some better ideas than me!
Happy knitting :)

Its ok, I survived. Actually I got distracted with a beanie tutorial, writing out the pattern and then my gym instructor came in early so I was off to the gym. Didn't get time to get onto Deramores. Which is probably a good thing lol.

Just finished the beanie for my grandson. Next time I think my daughter may be more precise when she says she wants slime on his face ahahahahaha ;-)

Afternoon everyone.

Its a lovely day here. a bit of wind but not freezing by any means.

Have been busy so haven't started sewing Mrs Claus up yet, will start after lunch tho.
Went shopping without MrP this morning. amazing how much I can get done in an hour, when Im alone lol. And no extra things in the groceries.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day

Morning Everyone... I hope your Mid Winter Christmas went well and was fun yesterday Kiwimade.

I have Mrs Claus's bits all sew up. And the main body piece stuffed, so just have to put her together today. I should finish her today.
I must say the marker pins are fantastic, I didn't prick my fingers at all yesterday.. Yay...
MrP was sore yesterday which means he was grumpy so it was hard to get anything done ... seems to be a bit better today fingers crossed lol

Happy Knitting etc everyone

morning ladies :) The Christmas luncheon was lovely but ommgg there was so much food :) We didn't need much dinner that's for sure!
Hopefully I'll get the garden spraying done today and then some knitting later. Have 20 more repeats on the shawl and the biggest part is finished. On a countdown lol.
Must try those marker pins popeye, I replaced all my sewing pins not long ago as my old ones were rusting, bent or blunt. Mind you I must of had them over 30 years lol. Also bought new needles and ommg what a difference a sharp needle makes :).
Happy knitting :)

They are Brilliant Kiwimade... And they have big flat heads on them so easy to pick up without looking. Pony brand from deramores.

Carolev, sometimes its hard to decide what to do next. Which is probably why for the first time in my life Im doing two projects at a time.

I do the toys during the day and then knit my blanket at night. Was quite pleased to learn I did 5 inches last night. And only on my second ball.

Mrs Claus now has hair and her bun done. The holly leaves and berries are on. Has a mouth and nose too lol
Pockets are pinned onto the skirt. Will attached them, add the candy cane and then sew the skirt on. Then stuff and sew the arms on. Add the shawl and she is done.
The stupid knicker frills wont look or sit right so Im not bothering with them. They should have a picot edge on it or at least some holes. So she wont have anything lol.

Then I will list them. And start on Whiskeys bride and Groom. Im looking forward to doing them cos I haven't done them before.
Once I have saved a bit Im going to buy the wool for MrPs zip up cardy. Ive never knitted him anything, Unless I did a hat ages ago. Hes not a little man either so it will take a while lol

Hi Popeye- I know the feeling. My husband is 6ft.4in and the knitting is never ending especially the sleeves. They just go on and on.
He does love his handknits and I am thinking about knitting him another jersey for golf.Have to finish what I am doing now - 2 childrens jerseys.
Have a great weekend everyone. The weather looks like it will be good to sit inside and knit.

Afternoonn ladies.
Sorry i haven't posted for awhile. Life has gotten in the way BIG TIME.
Went out for dinner a couple of weeks ago for my sister in laws birthday. Where her partner proposed in front of the whole restarant. Then people started asking me when we were getting engaged. I was happy for Jennifer and Richie, but upset that John knew about it (Richie asked John permission, not that he needed to,Jennifer was celebrating her 51st lol) and never told me (so i could prepare myself). We celebrated 17 years together 3 days after Jennifers birthday and John forgot (me not happy) We celebrated MY sisters birthday on Tuesday just been (2nd July) and Next Saturday (13th) is my birthday. Everyone kept saying your turn will come. Now that both sister and sister in law are engaged. But i don't want John to feel pressured into it. But after 17 years, we are every much a married couple as anyone with a ring on their finger, it would just be nice to have that ring on the finger.
On my birthday we actually have 2 40th's to attend as well as a fancy dress party to go to (theme is biker's and their biker chick), as well as an awards night for John's off road motor bike club.
Does anyone know how we can clone ourshelves into 4.
No knitting done since the weekend but i have nothing on this weekend so can finish a wee pink jersey for a friend who is due on my birthday.
Have a happy knitting weekend everyone.

My gran told me it was unlucky to knit for your man, and bearing that in mind I haven't done any for husband no. 2. I did start a jersey for husband no 1 after 19 years of marriage, but I left him before I finished it. He fronted up one day with the bag of half knitted jersey and the wool and the pattern and asked me to finish it. I did finish it, but not till a long time afterwards and I gave it to my then current boyfriend, who promptly died. I gave it to another friend, and then never saw him again either. Along came another boyfriend and I started a jersey for him, but we split before it was finished. I finished it and sent it to him, but vowed I'd never knit for a man again!

kuaka - 2013-07-05 15:46:00
1580

lmaooo kuaka I was told the same thing and then someone else said knit one of your hairs into your knitting and it will all be fine. When we were first married I knitted lots for MrK and we're still together after nearly 30 years.
OMG whiskey you have had a busy time. Your family sounds like ours, the birthdays all come at once lol.
Got all the weed spraying done, so now I sit and wait to see where I have missed :P. We must be having a really wet winter as there is heaps of moss on paths and rocks in the garden, more than usual.
Turned the heater off today and have the back door open - feels so good to have fresh air through the house.
I'm kinda hoping it will rain this weekend as I want to knit guilt free!
Happy knitting :)

I have finished Yay.. Easy to be seen... hint hint.

Whiskey what a time you have had. I know how you must be feeling. But for me Id happily let them all have their engagements, and you do yours at a time when it will be the only thing happening. not when it is over run with other happenings.

I had heard about not knitting for your partner, infact a friend told me. The husbands three unfinished jumpers. Im going to rixk it lol.. I will knit a hair in tho, to be safe.

MrP is around large, not so long thank goodness... Hes not expecting it till next winter which is good cos I don't even have the wool yet lol

popeye333 - 2013-07-05 16:06:00
1584

Hi all, I've not been here for ages either but have been thinking of you all.
Whiskey you have had such a busy time, and can understand you feeling upset that your partner forgot your anniversary and didn't warn you about sil's proposal. Such a lot going on for you at the moment, what a busy social life!
All good here, just got my first Deramores order today - ordered Sunday night, delivered Friday morning, awesome!
I used to knit for my very tall husband many years ago, but he decided he didn't like wearing knitted jerseys. Thank goodness as he;s a lot rounder now too, and we're still together.
My finger has been good since it healed after the growth was removed and I can now knit for longer periods, but I bumped it while mowing the lawns on Wednesday and it looks as though the granuloma is returning. I had been warned this was possible but am a bit disappointed as the first one one so difficult to get rid of and very painful. Will be off to the doctor very quickly if it grows in the next few days.
Apart from that all is well - daughters dog has been living with us for one year today and is now using his leg again after a bone infection. So after 12 months, many setbacks and 3 operations (on his knee), we have fingers crossed that he will be walking properly by Christmas.
Have a lovely weekend everyone, happy knitting xo

maible - 2013-07-05 20:15:00
1585

Morning all... Ohh Noo Maible, after just getting that finger to a reasonably good state. Fingers crossed it behaves and you wont have to go through it all again.

MrPs birthday today.. so Im going to be on my best behaviour and not upset him in any way. He has a small fruit cake to celebrate. I imagine his sugars will be sky high by the end of the day lol.

Fine but cloudy here.., He reckons it was hosing down the day he was born lol.

Whiskey, with the bride and groom dolls, do you happen to know the bridal colours are? Cos the groom has a cravat and the bride has a bouquet. If you knew I could colour co-ordinate. And hair colour too if you want.
Hate asking when everything is bad there with anniversary's and proposals etc. But thought you might like them done to suit the couple. Will be starting them today.
Well everyone,. hope you all have a good day...

popeye333 - 2013-07-06 08:48:00
1586

morning :) I been wondering how you were getting on maible, what a buggar about your finger. It's a gorgeous morning here - I've been reading about the rough weather the Cantabs have had overnight, just nasty!
Got housework to do, jobs to apply for and hopefully get this part of the baby's shawl finished today.
I meant to say to whiskey yesterday, guys just don't think at times do they! Honestly, there are times I could happily strangle MrK lol. Probably why I am enjoying that new song by Pink at the moment 'True Love'. When it's on the radio I sing it loudddd lol.
Happy knitting :)

morning ladies nice sunny day but too warm for me

carolev - 2013-07-06 10:42:00
1588

Hi all
The Santa's are so lovely Popeye - hope mr P has a happy birthday and surely one day of treats should be allowed. I know with my niece who became a diabetic at 10yrs old they said an occasional treat was allowed as it stopped the kids from having 'binges' and really upsetting their blood sugars.
Maible sure hope your finger behaves itself and settles down again.
A really lovely day here so maybe into the garden a bit later on. Had a great afternoon in the garden yesterday and made quite a difference weed-wise.
Still happily knitting socks now do 2 at a time using magic loop which means I don't turn so often so get more reading or TV watching done. Not sure if I actually do get more done but it seems like it lol.

jayemtoo - 2013-07-06 10:48:00
1589

morning ladies. I'm having the most frustrating morning! I've started knitting the lace to go around the edge of the baby's shawl - have been really looking forward to this bit after all the plain knitting. BUT omg... what a sod of a pattern. It says I should have 27 stitches at the end of one row but I have 25, unpicked it FOUR times and still have 25. Went back to the pattern and re-read the pattern, counted how many stitches in the row the pattern says and I was right. This has been throught out all 16 rows of the pattern. The last row, I've ended up with more than what I should to start the repeat, yet going back over the pattern, I've done it as the pattern says. I might do another repeat and see how the pattern comes together, although it may mean fiddling it to make it work. arrgggg!! It's a Sirdar pattern and I've never had trouble with their patterns before.
That's my gripe for the day lol.
happy knitting :)

Hi popeye. The bride and groom both have light brown hair and the bride will be having orange in the bouquet. Orange was mum's favourite colour and Tania is altering mum's wedding dress to add some orange into it. Tania is also president of the racing section of her local working men club and everyone wears orange to the race meeting they attend. Can the dress have a silver thread knitting into the bodice and end of the sleeves? Doesn't matter if you have already gotten that far thou.

whiskey13 - 2013-07-07 12:18:00
1591

Hi all... been busy pottering this morning.

Ohh Kiwimade, what a pain in the butt.... Hate it when things wont work properly. Hope you get it sorted.

Ohh Whiskey I love the fact that its orange, something different. Have done the bodice and half way up the skirt. Funny cos I was thinking it would nice if I had some silver thread, Which I only sold recently.
What I can do is top last row of the skirt in orange. And Ill do the neck band in orange. And the bouquet. Possibly a row on the veil when I figure out how that is done. It will make it a bit more personal eh.

I've just realised I bagged up the Santa and Mrs Claus and I was going to take them up the road tomorrow... Will have to take them out again lol

Nice day here today..again

popeye333 - 2013-07-07 12:35:00
1592

almost finished this cardie have been asked to knit more beanies and mitten sets . the kindy teacher says her work mates will buy them popeye do you want some stuffing??

carolev - 2013-07-07 15:07:00
1593

Not at present Carol, no.. I have plenty of pillows in the office to use first. Limited space so cant have too much at one time. Id never get to my wool otherwise lol

popeye333 - 2013-07-07 15:52:00
1594

apologies for my griping and whinging up there ^^^ , have it all sorted now. So damed frustrating not being able to work it out, then realised one of the abbreviations was round the needle AND yarn forward to make two stitches... sigh... PUT YA GLASSES ON WOMAN!! lol. Luckily I have only done three repeats this time so it won't be much to start again.
So I'm a much happier woman and it is safe for MrK to come into the living room lol.
Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-07-07 16:05:00
1595

Ohh soo pleased you have it sorted Kiwimade.. Lol....

The hair on the bride and groom is funny.. You knit one strand of DK on one 3mm and one 5.5mm needle. 6 rows to the pattern and you have to do it 12 times. Ive done the brides hair and now doing the veil which is done the same way but with more stitches.
It just feels weird and wrong, but it does a nice job lol.

popeye333 - 2013-07-07 16:10:00
1596

oohhhh will that give it 'waves' to make the hair wavy? Might have a bit of a tutu and try that!

kiwimade64 - 2013-07-07 16:57:00
1597

best place to knit??? I sit in bed to knit as better 1/2 says the needles are too noisie . for me to knit in lounge it's warm in bed and saves on heating too. finished miss D jacket now will do her a beanie

carolev - 2013-07-08 07:08:00
1598

It looks like normal knitting Kiwimade. But with the increasing and decreasing and not knitting full rows you end up with a wavy fringe effect and the not knitted end fits around the head. Ill put the 6 rows of the pattern up later you can see.
Carol, I knit toys in the lounge, MrP daren't complain about the needles clicking lol. But my Blanket I knit at night in bed.
MrP has always gone to bed early. Usually by 7pm. so I put the lecky blanket on and happily sit and knit. with my headphones on. We have separate rooms.
He has a broken back and needs a firm bed , and I jump around and read late. so it works good for us.

Ive been thinking I might have been over adventurous for my blanket. Ill measure the magic square one that mum made and make mine the same size. its plenty big enough.

Have to be at the drs early this morning. Well I need to show off Santa and Mrs Claus to the girls at the lab first then see the dr. Im well its just that they have this rule about having to see the dr twice a year, so you cant just keep getting repeats. If it wasn't for the fact that its my heart I wouldn't need to see them. But I also want to get my new dr onboard with my diabetes and how I want tests at least twice a year.

Have a good day all. Ill be back later

morning ladies :) sorry to hear you have a superbug carol, hope the doc can help. Beautiful morning here so far, washing out, been onto town. Am applying for two jobs this morning, gets a tad disheartening at times. Still, you have to be in to win. Some of the questions on an application had me wondering - one asked what salary do I expect from the position. Wrote down what I am 'worth' as a teacher so lets see what happens.
Might have another go at the lace this afternoon, knitting 2 ply on 4mm needles makes me feel all fingers and thumbs! Still it knits a lot quicker than the main part which was all garter stitch - soooo glad that bit is over!
Happy knitting :)
