You are busy grizzly It will be nice for hubby to see his old mates. When no 2 son did his training at wigram 25 years ago he rang me and told me they had to stuff newspaper in the cracks of the barracks because it was so cold. He still loves the Airforce life though. Ha ha. I do have my raspberry canes and a Pepino tree to plant. Will do it when it is cool later in the evening.

Also my daughter can not see What I am up to. ha ha. Got some more potting soil yesterday and have a huge pot to replant. Got SIL to remove an enormous Yukka from it and he planted that in the garden for me. Have put two Tamarillos in large pots until we decide where to put them. Peppers are prolific as well as beans, tomatoes and cucumbers. Peas were not so good as they needed too much water. Pumkins and potatoes just surviving with the grey water and fertilizer. Chillies, onions and garlic hanging on in there as well. I could not even get down to the plum trees so have to rely on grandkids to get them. Two of the grandkids have gone home and the other teenager is off this arvo. They are growing up so fast. Cellphones were ringing, computters were beeping lol. It is all about communication.

Your garden sounds wonderful I love my gardens but I am no expert. This place has only 2 ornamental beds plus a rock garden and a raised bed for veges. Not a lot of work to keep it going. I have rhubarb doing really well ( I made rhubarb & ginger jam on Friday) On our 3rd lot of lettuces and spring onions and carrots are seeing us through the summer. 2nd lot of celery is ready to eat and my one pumkin plant has taken over the back garden. The best result ever! The Super tom I bought from the Warehouse has turned out to be a cherry tomato. Lovely for salads but I would have preferred the larger variety for sandwiches and on crackers. But for a wee garden we have had lots of fun.

The only thing we have missed is growing our own potatoes. The only failure this season has been the cucumber.

grizzly4 - 2009-02-08 13:56:00
1555

You have a bountiful harvest grizzly I did have lettuces but need to put more in. I have 3 types of tomatoes and although I grow two small cherry type ones I have beefsteak for my crackers. My rhubarb is going well too and the rhubarb and ginger sounds yummy. Managed to do a lot this morning in the house and am now on my way back to the cottage to clean up there. After the teenagers there is stuff everywhere. I will have a cuppa and a break then get stuck in before it gets too hot.

I mainly grow the cherry tomatoes For the grandchildren. They eat them like grapes especially miss one. She is at swimming this morning, so it is quite. Ha ha.

Quite a bit cooler this morning but no rain as yet. Isn't it awful about the fires in Victoria? I felt so bad for Queensland and their floods and then the fires happened. Dreadful times over there. And far too close to home!

grizzly4 - 2009-02-10 09:14:00
1558

We have had drizzle most of the night Yippee!!!!! Yes it is very sad that so many were killed and many others have lost everything. They had floods when my daughter lived in Queensland and they scared the hell out of me when I was there. In all my 10 years of living in NSW we were lucky. The closest fire was 50 miles away in the Blue Mountains but looking at the vast areas these fires are travelling we were lucky. It is hard to understand why someone would deliberately light fires. I hope they find some of these people and give them hell. My training for understanding goes right out the window when I see deliberate acts of destruction and devastation.

and cruelty! I agree whole-heartedly!

1560

I endorse that grizzly Societal values mean swot as far as some people are concerned. Too much blame is attached to the way they were brought up. Time and time again cruel people use that excuse. What about their decision making? They make the choices. I have seen lovely people emerge from hell holes of cruelty and it makes them determined not to treat others they way they were treated.

Totally agree. I was talking to the woman today who took over my family support role half way through last year and we agreed that laziness is a huge component of bad parenting. The mums are on medication for depression when in a lot of cases we are working with it is more lethargy, lack of motivation and interest and no idea how to fill in their days productively. 'Back in the days' when I was home with wee ones I never questioned that the mornings were for laundry, dishes, general tidy up etc then nap time for the kids before going for a walk, or shopping or visiting in the afternoon. (Didn't drive then either!) And always back home in time to cook tea. Good wee wifey that I was.

We all were grizzly These days parents take their children to so many different activities and then complain they have no time to do the housework or cook etc. One of our neighbours is hardly ever at home and she has 3 children. No wonder things pile up. I am melting here, have just taken my feet out of a bucket of cold water. Bubs has been in her pool and although I sat there with her and she showered me constantly so I could get wet, I am still darn hot.

Goodness me! I'm in a winter jersey today!!!

Happy Valentines Day girls. Its not that bad up here grizzly but I have just used the vacuum and didnt work up a sweat. I hope its not the end of summer though. I am going to get the soil in my pots ready for the next planting. I had mixed success with veges in pots as I think it was just too hot this summer but will start again next week. What is good to plant in containers from now on.

When I didn't have a garden I grew all my salad stuff in planters. Worked quite well as long as I watered lots. Haven't tried things like brocoli, cabbage etc. You have reminded me of a plan I had earlier this summer to use some of the big planters I have for shrubs along my deck! Must get on to that.

Hubby went to surgeon on Thursday and knee was cleared as fit & healthy. Just one more visit in a couple of months. HOWEVER he isn't happy that hubby is still limping and still in pain or that the physio has reported decreasing mobility!!!! Says that iit could be brain to muscle message thing and hubby has to fix that! Added extra worry to that by adding ACC will probably put pressure on soon to return to work.

Hi girls Flew to Wellington for the weekend and it was freezing when We arrived. I only took one cardi and a sweatshirt plus 3 prs of long shorts. I limped around Te Papa but loved the weekend. I have Mum here for a week so that is nice. She is resting now and Miss One has just woken up.

I have wanted to visit Te Papa for ages and never seem to have the time and the money at the same moment.

No 3 Son is living across the road from the Beehive right next door to the old National Headquarters of the Red Cross where I worked from. Chinese Embassy now. Te Papa is so large I will have to make several visits to see it all.

That comment from the specialist is a pretty standard commonality grizzly. Years ago a physio friend of mine told me the same thing and he was right about me deteriorating. Fortunately the specialist agreed. Physios are working with patients regularly and if they say there is loss of movement there usually is. Poor hubby. ACC must realise if he goes back too soon he will be off again.

Hi smartgirl Going to take Mum home so will ring to catch up. Most likely Friday afternoon. How is everyone in your neck of the woods?

Makereal, that sounds great All good here, my wee girls stayed last night which was fun. I think I will h ave them both on Friday. Holly says she is looking forward to seeing you again. Were are going to bunnings when Bella wakes up.

It's all go down here! Back on anti-biotics again as the bug I have is still there so still coughing. Daughter has just handed in her resignation at her job, has a new one to start in a month after she has worked out her notice. All happened very fast! DIL started her polytech course yesterday, ended up paying $90 to have her car unclamped as she couldn't find the right car-parking area. An awful start for her, poor thing. Hubby is also looking at doing a course at the Open Polytech in case he can't go back to his truck. Lots of changes in 2009 for this family.

You aren't kidding grizzly Sounds like your family is in overdrive. Just took Mum to the Mall for lunch. She spent last night up at the beach with no 1 daughter of mine. By the time we got home I was a cot case. This bl----dy foot is no better and I am wearing the skin off the ball of my foot. It is so frustrating. I watched a programme about superbugs and how we are not producing enough antibotics to kill all these new germs. That bug of yours is certainly resistant. What a bug--r?

Hi smartgirl Mum says she wants to go Hamilton on Saturday and maybe that is best. At lest I will not have the traffic we do on Fridays. Will let you know closer to the day. Say hi to Holly for me. How are you feeling now?

makerealbany - 2009-02-18 15:37:00
1576

Boy it's hard to get up in the mornings! Usually I'm up and about at 7am but not these days. I wonder whether it's a bit cooler some nights so I'm sleeping better. The other thing I've noticed that I'm dozing off during the 6pm news (just for 10 mins) but Not ready to go to bed till around 11 happy to knit a few more rows in the evening than normal. I feel like my routine is all messed up, maybe I'm entering my second adolescence wanting to stay in bed till noon. (of course 8 is usually the latest!!)

next thing you will be answering us back Its still hot here at night and I still have the fan on but seem to be sleeping better too. I am a night owl at the moment too. makereal, Saturday will be fine. Does it mean I get to meet your mum.

Hey, makeralbany.. You know you said you couldn't find enough craft programmes on Sky? What do you think of Astar on Channel 3's Good Morning? I love watching a bit of this before going to work. She's almost from the fifties in her styles of dress which are lovely on her and she makes them all herself! She is into cooking and crafty things to show you on the show.

Hi girls Mum has not been too good but wants to go to Hamilton tomorrow. So will ring you then smartgirl. Yes I do like her grizzly. She is quirky isn't she? I went to bed at 2 then was up at 4 with Mum again. She tired herself out shopping and her legs were playing up. Must be hereditary. I am off to see the doc this arvo for a jab and I have a ruddy ear infection.

It is raining yah All the downpipes were blocked up again so guess who got up with her gammy leg on the ladder to unblock them. I got saturated. Was a bit scary but Mum and I are the only ones home. The sound of the water rushing down the downpipes made up for it. Ha ha. I had to wait until Mum was having 40 winks otherwise I would have worried her and got a lecture. Had a lovely dinner with the family last night. They all took turns to visit Nan in the cottage and take her dinner, etc. She sat like a Queen with all her attendants. Ha ha. Both my 15 and 14 year old grandsons voices have changed and I never knew who was talking unless I looked. Quite funny really.

makerealbany - 2009-02-20 11:03:00
1582

Gosh you are brave doing those downpipes! Heights I'm not great with at all. Family were all here, too, yesterday. 21 month old stayed over. He's changed so much since being at preschool for last 2 weeks.

1583

Hi smartgirl Nice to see you even if it was for a few minutes. Mum had sprained her ankle so sis had to take her to the hospital and by the time I had seen my sick friend and driven home I was a cot case the next day. How is the blanket stitch going? Managed to knit a little jersey and the jacket for a pram suit for our new baby whilst I was sitting though. Have a pile of stuff to sew up. I always wait until I have enough to spend the day on.

makerealbany - 2009-02-23 10:27:00
1584

21 months !!!!!! Time passes so quickly. It is lovely having little ones around. I could spend hours and (I do)watching little miss. We tidy up when she has a nap and once she has been fed she demolishes the lounge, her bedroom and anywhere else she is allowed to get to. Lol. My older grandchildren adore her and spoil her rotten.

makerealbany - 2009-02-23 10:31:00
1585

I have had a ball cleaning out my buttons and eeyore collection. I really wanted a bracelet I saw a couple of weks ago but it was a price I wouldn't even think about spending on myself so started to prioritise stuff I have sitting around. I can't believe how well the buttons did! I'll go look out some more I think.

grizzly4 - 2009-02-24 09:27:00
1586

Good on you grizzly It is surprizing how well somethings sell for. Had a private technician who used to work for Telecom, to put the phone on in the cottage. 2 HOURS LATER AND NUMEROUS CALLS TO TELECOM PLUS $200. I still do not have the phone on as there is a fault from the road to the house. Technician from telecom will be here tomorrow. I am so mad I could scream. Which is what my granddaughter has been doing while her Mum is at work. Teething again. Poor darling. In between babysitting, etc, cleaned one of the ovens and the bl----dy side rack won't fit in properly. Have to wait until my girl comes home to help. Why are some days so difficult?

makerealbany - 2009-02-24 14:12:00
1587

Phone is on in the cottage yah Telecom guy came this morning and there were faults everywhere including the exchange. Cannot wait to see his bill. I am knitting the leggings of a the pram set now. Spent the morning minding little miss. She had on a jersey I knitted her and looked really cue. Biased I know. Ha ha. It was a bit nippy this morning. Most of those rotten beetles that look like helmets have dissappeared from my garden. Maybe the change in weather killed them. Horrible sticky stinky things.Daughter no 1 wants some bassinet warm sheets so I had to borrow a set she bought to get the size right. Might cut those out later. No sewing today. Could not put foot on pedal today. How is everyone?

makerealbany - 2009-02-25 15:02:00
1588

Must be the time of year!!! Lots of people seem to be having days like you have had recently. Weird. As for me, guess what? I now have a cold just as I finished the second lot of antibiotics for that bl----y cough. One of the grandsons had a runny nose on the weekend, I noticed. Having the day off today 'cos I feel rotten. Was knitting a wee swing dress and leggings and had to make run to Knitworld for more wool. Had to blacklist someone for not coming through on an auction over a week ago and relisted the item. Just one of those days, today.

grizzly4 - 2009-02-25 16:41:00
1589

Where are you, you busy women? What a week! Boy you get behind when you have to take a day off sick. Went to the Doctor after work, kept me waiting 3/4 of an hour. He said (in some surprise) 'Gosh you've had this cough a year!" my reply was "I know, where have you been?" Stupid bu---r! But guess what, yep, a third dose of antibiotics and the heartening parting comment from him " I'm worried what you're going to be like in the winter".
Good grief, dig my grave now with that sort of pep talk.

grizzly4 - 2009-02-27 20:12:00
1590

Hells bells grizzly Glad I do not have your GP. Trade that one in. Have been flat out. Had to take little Moodle to the vet. He ripped his nail on the deck just like my Foxy did. My son and the kids arrived today to take him to their house. I had to pack up his antibiotics and his toys. Ha ha. I will miss him, he is like a little teddy bear. My cats will be thrilled to see him gone. Lol

MR has a tummy bug and runny nose We took her to playgroup for the first time on Thursday. She loved interacting with the other kids but was sick yesterday. Her Mummy is run down and not too good herself. She has a breast infection, waiting for it to heal for surgery. It is all go here. S is home on Wednesday so that is good. I am knitting heaps of baby things at night to unwind after the hectic days.

makerealbany - 2009-02-28 21:38:00
1592

Hope you are not sick smartgirl You are most likely flat out. You are as busy with your family as we are with our families. Never stops does it?

makerealbany - 2009-02-28 21:43:00
1593

The trouble with changing your GP is that now that you have to be registered with one it costs you an arm & a leg to see another on a casual basis and so many aren't taking on new patients! Next step is a referral to hospital but not keen about what that will mean!

grizzly4 - 2009-03-01 11:03:00
1594

OOPS I forgot about being an enrolled patient griz Yes I never go to Medical centres because of the huge cost. I go to my GP in Northcote because if I went down the road it would cost me a bomb and they never read your notes fully when you change areas. In my sixties

makerealbany - 2009-03-01 17:27:00
1595

Darn hit the post key Any way to start again I have only ever had 3 good Gps. They are few and far between. Woke up late today because Teddy was not there to wake me up. Ha ha. Spent the day cleaning and sorting stuff. Threw Corned beef and veges in the Slow cooker this morning so we have just had tea and now I am going to sit down , knit and watch a movie.

makerealbany - 2009-03-01 17:31:00
1596

Spent most of the day sewing today I'm doing a 'Cars' dressing gown for grandson who turns 4 in a couple of weeks. Yes we are on the never ending cycle of birthdays again. They are the reason I will never be well off!! Haha. I have 3 in March plus a friends wedding. one in April plus Easter. I'm not doing Easter Eggs again this year. Have done books in the past and last year bought the 3 boys lovely warm winter hats. This year might do sox, I think. Enjoyed having the afternoon to sew, hubby wnt out and cleaned up the garage so a very productive weekend!

grizzly4 - 2009-03-01 19:50:00
1597

Yes it is nearly time for dressing gowns A got little miss a lovely one on sale for $15 so that was neat. I need to go to Spotlight for some material but will fit it in when I go to the GPs on Thursday. With the cost of petrol and my rotten leg I try to do as much as I can when I go out. Got some liquid nails for a mirror I am going to mosaic from Mitre ten Mega. They have a big new store in Albany. It was really cheap so I am pleased. Have to ferret around thru all the tile boxes to find the tiles though. That will be a mission.

makerealbany - 2009-03-03 10:24:00
1598

Should be good fun Have a fair idea of what I want to use but no doubt I will find some hidden treasures. Ha ha. When I was sorting out some more boxes on Sunday I found 3 black cats that hung on the wall so thought I would mosaic them to give them a new lease of life. Have had them since I was 17. First hubby bought them for me so cannot bear to part with them.

makereal, I am fine, I have just been busy and someone else has been hogging my computer at night, then I get started knitting and forget to come on. Have done heaps of knitting and just finished sewing on buttons. Now I have to take photos and list them. I brought some large 1/2 drums and Holly is here today and we are going to fill the first one. I will help her now and talk later.
