THE NEW COIN CLUB

#Post
1551

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

The 1847 keneta

echoriath wrote:

Answer = Quarter Eagle (1908-1929) and Half Eagle (1908-1929) had incuse designs. Mind you, the edges of the new dollar coins (Native American and Presidential) are incused as well.

New question: What is the year of the first official coinage of the Kingdom of Hawaii?

Haha, I saw that Florin, bruce. Bit of a stunner. I threw a wee bid in, but I figured you or someone else would be more keen on that little lovely.

New question: French coins with the mint mark "C" were made in what town? In what years was this mint active?

Hi can anyone help me find out what a coin is. I have found 1 that belonged to my dad, silver in colour about the size of old 50c with 'God Guns and Guts made America Free" written on 1 side with a settlers wagon and on the other side "At any price keep all three" written and dated 1969??? I have no idea where he got it or what it is. Happy to supply photo if anyone can help me out?? Thanx

If I'm right what were the last coins of the Azores that featured a Maltese cross and what were they made of?

Going by my old Craig catalogue, I'd say the silver 150 réis of 1798.

I listed a sovereign, described as "full sovereign" in the item title, and clearly stated in the description that no halves were made that year, and yet someone still asks "is it a full or half?" What can one do ...

That's good so far - CHIIE as I understand it. Clue for the second one: same continent, about 76 years earlier, if my early-morning maths is right.

Apparently in 2003 Kurdistan misspelled their name on a 10dinar coin but that was in Arabic script. There's also a 1988 and 89 10 Paise with a misspelling in Sanskrit of Marat instead of Bharat (Name for the subcontinent). Not in Latin script but do they count? Not sure if Kurdistan is recognised as an independent country so I could always throw in the CHIIE for good measure if Bruce permits.

My maths was wrong earlier - should have b-been 86 years b-before, not 76.

Martin, technically speaking New Zealand is one of them. As they issued a 2c coin with New Zealand spelt "BAHAMAS".

And I'll ask another one even though I'm only allowed one question!
What year were the NZ gold sovereigns issued?

1. A ship's wheel and a sunrise, since no-one else has answered overnight :-)
2. According to the Unusual World Coins catalogue, there were gold versions of the "1936" Edward VIII fantasies known as "sovereigns" struck by Richard Lobel, probably in the early 1980s, though the gold fineness isn't right for the real thing (.375 vs. .917). There are also silver ones of the same size (apart from the crown-sized ones), which is getting really weird.

Donaldo, very interesting, risky ploy.

As for the other seller - 190 reds but how many positives? - 190 smileys - terrible but say 40,000 smileys that would only be a roughly 0.5% red rate......
