| QV revenue type stamps side face marked stamp duty I have found 4 of these stamps in an old box, hinged on to an old bit of paper. I could not find them in the ACS catalogue so thought they were not stamps but then saw some on Trademe. Do they have any value and where can I find out how much. grongy - 2009-07-24 17:12:00 |

| 1900 Mt cook Official A friend of mine has a 1900 Mt Cook Official which has the overprint on the extreme right hand side. Is any one able to tell me if this is worth more than the standard type shown on the left side of the photo? Thanks, please see http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/56/99813956_full.jpg stak - 2009-07-28 16:19:00 |

| Pixie post Anybody ever heard of Pixie Post. Could be self printed on bright orange label stock. warm3 - 2009-07-31 14:41:00 |
| What does 'gutter pair' mean? I have visions of grubby urchins in puddles...!Also what do the words with PEX after them mean with some groups of stamps and the word 'Se-tennant'. I'm addicted to this renewed hobby and my ACS catalogue is getting a beating. My family are a little concerned! grongy - 2009-08-02 04:42:00 |
| Gutter Pair etc. Some stamps are printed in sheets which have a printed or unprinted space through called a gutter. A 'gutter pair' is two stamps, one on each side of the gutter. Se-tennant means joined togther and is a term used to describe two or more stamps connected but of different designs. PEX would mean a phileatelic exhibition, special miniature sheets are often printed for these. grongy it's great to hear that you are enjoying your stamps so much. I hope this answers your questions. stak - 2009-08-02 10:18:00 |
| Information on Stamps A good place to find some answers about stamps is NZ Post's webesite. www.stamps.nzpost.co.nz They have information about historical issues and a guide to collecting NZ stamps. You can search information and stamp terminology too. stak - 2009-08-02 10:23:00 |
| Thank you stak That is really helpful.I looked at the NZ post site and see that it could be very tempting.Lots of goodies to tempt one. grongy - 2009-08-02 10:50:00 |
| Strips and Blocks for Stamps Help please I am just getting back into my stamp collecting and purchased an album where I want to put in the strips or cut to size, but am unsure how they work. Just a clear stip doesnt appear to have any adhesive or though it does have some sort of finish, how do you stick them onto the page and then put stamp on or under it? excuse my ignorance. nikki332 - 2009-08-02 11:35:00 |
| thanks donahue 1518 it is a older stamp, i am just new at stamps and i am not very on to it i'm afraid. but i am finding it very interesting. i don't suppose you could tell me if having these holes punched into them makes them anymore desirable or not. camlamb1 - 2009-08-03 10:12:00 |
| Hello my boy 10 wasgiven some stamps from my nana so he is just started to collect them in a big way ive bought some bulk lots off trademe for his b'day to help get him started where can i get a album from?? and what should he really be looking at as this is a whole new world to us and even the post shop were shocke3d that he was interested as they said its a lost art:( no one does it now so im very glad to see ya all here...:) trueblood - 2009-08-04 16:55:00 |
| Re 1529 Hi there, good to hear your son is interested in stamps, greta for geography!! I would recommend contacting your local junior stamp club, this can be found in the yellow pages. These are great places at showing where to go from here. In terms of albums and the alike, you can either grab a stock book (slip in stamps) or purchase an album. No need to get too fancy early, but collect anything you want, thats how many collectors get started. shelleytrouble - 2009-08-06 19:06:00 |
| i phoned the local stamp club in Hamilton we are in huntly so nothing here, and they no longer have a junior stamp club..sucks big time ...ive joined him in the nzpost kidz club so thats a start.... trueblood - 2009-08-07 12:29:00 |
| Soaking stamps is fun but can anyone give me the best way to do this. I dried a whole lot on a dry teatowel (No,not like dishes!) face up and discovered just how much glue stayed on them after they dried! Obviously I will turn them face down next time but would like some dos and don't from the experts please as some of these are quite old. Tx grongy - 2009-08-08 16:44:00 |
| Soaking Stamps I have found that it is best to use hot water especially with the self adhesive stamps that are very annoying and you have to be really careful. I put them on a paper towel laid over newspaper. Many years ago when I started collecting as a child I put them face up on newspaper which I only did once when I found that they stuck tight! stak - 2009-08-08 17:11:00 |
| What is the difference between the 1898 pictorials and the 1907 redrawn picts. I can't see in the ACS catalogue even with a magnifying glass.I have several of the kaka found in an old box and did not know how excited i should get! grongy - 2009-08-09 06:36:00 |
| thanks stak 1533 At least i was doing it right. I just imagined that after decades of not collecting stamps, some miracle system may have been desired. The self adhesives are a challenge! grongy - 2009-08-09 06:38:00 |
| Heaps and how much? We have heaps of stamps, alot of old stamps, some unused, not really sure on the whole stamp world. What is the best way to sell them individual or as sets? thanks, anyone I can take them to or look at on a website to say the value westharbour - 2009-08-09 10:06:00 |

| Hi there Could any of you please tell me if an old 1d NZ stamp with 3d also stamped on it is rare? It doesn't have the original 1d's black out like I have seen on other stamps. So basically it has 2 prices on it. myzed - 2009-08-09 20:12:00 |

| Any NZ Stamp A stamp that I would love to have for my collection is a 1906 Christchurch Exhibition 1d Claret, not just because it is so valuable but I love this set of stamps and I am interested in the Exhibition. I saw a full sheet of these stamps on display in Auckland in 1995. stak - 2009-08-10 09:11:00 |
| 1541 Hi Stak,I looked up your favorite and choked on the value! Why is one stamp so much more valuable than others, and that one in particular grongy - 2009-08-11 22:13:00 |
| 1534 Re drawn Hi grongy. The way I tell the 1898 1/- Kaka from the 1900 Re drawn one,is the white lines either side of the 'V' of the word revenue near the the lower part of the stamp. willy_hunt - 2009-08-12 10:36:00 |
| 1541 1d Claret The ChCh Exhibition 1d Claret is valuable because when the authorities saw the stamps in the proposed colour, claret they thought it was too dark for the design so it was printed in vermilion instead however a few of the original claret colour got out! stak - 2009-08-12 12:41:00 |
