How did I miss this? She's lovely kiwicarol :) I have never knitted toys before, might have to add it to the list of 'must dos' :)

Its fun Kiwimade, I find I never get bored knitting toys cos everything is different. Jean Greenhowes are the easiest patterns to follow.

I have designed my blanket. Just have to wait for my wool, although I do have some. And Ill be knitting it like scarves, and do them inbetween doing toys for a break.
It will end up double thickness. And will have the rows of stitching verticle and horizontal. I might do it in garter stitch although that doesn't seem to grow as fast.
Ill draw it up later in felt pen so I can show everyone what I mean.

Hi Dwebbie - I get nearly all my wool from Skeinz and find them really reasonable and some good bargains, most of my knitting is for babies and preschoolers so only buy wool. I also get good quality wool by the skein there for making felted slippers which is a lot cheaper than buying balls of wool.
.

Yeah I do mainly baby and small child knitting and crochet too, which is why I do prefer to stick to wool. Plus I hate the squeaking and stuff that acrylic does on the needles and hooks. Felt is something I am yet to work with, though I made a scoodie for my daughter with a detachable mohawk and want to make detachable dreadlocks too and thought they would look cool done in felt. Not sure how yet, still thinking on it.

Morning All... Another cold day. but I went and got some thermals yesterday. instant warmth.. Why I have never had them before beats me.
Well I know why, cos Im older now, on blood thinners and not as tough as I was before lol..
Only knitted a wee bit of beard for santa yesterday.

Will draw up the design of my blanket later. Im going to be knitting it in scarf type lengths so will be something I do inbetween toys so I don't get bored with it.
Waiting on my deramores orders to arrive. Will be at least 2 huge bags to start with, then a single ball and then a wee packet with my pins.. Woohoo Christmas time lol..
Hope all those with the terrible weather are safe and well..
Take care and Happy Knitting

morning ladies :) ommgoodness that wind is bitterly cold. Wouldn;t mind so much if we had the snow to match it but we don't :(
I have yet to brave going into town, MrK wants his sawblades sent off to be sharpened and I have mail to forward on to my kids - gotta love it when you still get their mail lol.
Shortest day today and son's birthday. He gets a tad miffed his birthday is a 'short one' lol and his sister's is on the longest day. Of course his sister just loves the idea!
Finished my second throw last night, I'll post a pic when I can. I'm also waiting for a Deramores order which can't be too far away now.
I ordered some router bits for MrK yesterday from the States... even with converting the dollar he worked out he has saved $300 by buying online overseas rather than within NZ. Pity we couldn't get those sorts of deals here.
Happy knitting :)

Youll be getting the wind from Te Aroha? Kiwimade?

Its cold here too, but ohhh the thermals are lovely.

Its 39 years today since my Dad died... so your Son shares the day with him.
Ive always said one goes out and one comes in. And many years ago met my friend whose brother died on 25th of Nov 1977, and my nephew was born the exact same day. So my friend and I have a kinship with that. My nephew died a few years ago tho. So We kinda hope they met up.

Amazing when you think about it eh, being able to buy a lot cheaper overseas.
Thank god for the internet and credit cards lol.

We braved the wind and went and did bloods. I have my INR results back early. And YAYAYAY I was bang on normal and can now test in a months time instead of three weekly. Only once in 6.5 yrs have IO had a 6 week gap. But Im aiming on it again lol

Have finished the beard and moustashe this morning. Oh and have done the picture of the blanket. Will upload that now

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/272008860.jpg

The verticals will be in a royal blue. The horizontals will be a sky blue and cream where the reddy colour is in the picture.
Im thinking I might do it all in garter stitch, cos once the light blue and cream is woven in it will give texture with the rows being different ways.

I just have to play with the wool and needles to see what size needles to use. It will in effect end up double thickness, so am Thinking I could use maybe a 5mm, just to make it a little loser than normal. But will play with that after I have finished Santa.

Cold up here in the "winterless north" too. I reckon whoever coined that phrase never actually lived here during winter. It might not be as cold as some places, but it still gets cold - I haven't seen the sea freeze yet though like I remember it doing when I was a kid in the UK.

Going out shortly to do a few errands and spend some money on groceries, then I think I will park by the woodfire and knit.

We saw a huge heavy frost at Paihia once, After my stepfather told us how it was the winterless north lol...

morning ladies :) Poopeye, the wind we usually get is a sou'wester from across the central North Island... bitterly cold and you can 'feel' it in the wind when there is snow 'down the line'. Quite a few of our trees grow in the direction of the wind.
Housework today and a check of the garden to make sure everything is OK after the huge winds we've had. Also have some primulas and polyanthus' to plant. MrK is going to empty more compost into the garden for me - I won't empty the compost bin since I disturbed a rat once and it lept over my shoulder to escape. You could hear me scream at the end of the country lol. This was years ago when the kids were small but I still won't do it lol.
Maybe my deramores order will arrive today...
Happy knitting :)

Afternoon all. Well looks like mainland NZ has sent the wind and rain over here to the island. Fair blowing out there. Sun is coming out now as I type but then its likely the rain will return suddenly. Been busy last night crocheting a beanie, just need to make a flower for it, so something else new to learn to do. I usually knit beanies etc, but I have branched into crochet of late.. Hope the weather is improving for you all back there

Yes I know that wind Kiwimade, was the same when we lived in Mango.. Although we were down in a hollow, so it was always colder in Tokoroa.

Wow Dweeble just looked and your Overseas lol... Good when we learn something new eh.

Have had a productive morning really. Found my extra blanket which as I thought was in my huge suitcase in the wardrobe. As was the chess set I brought ages ago, its a glass set. I got it from the oppy for $1-50 and knew that oneday there would be a place for it. Its now on top of the big tv cabinet we have.
Also folded and put away two loads of washing. I have about 10 inches spare in the double wardrobe. Cant put any more in or Id not be able to slide anything. Its jammed in. And thats not counting the clothes in the single wardrobe in the spare room.. oops.
But I do have about a 18 inch square of clear room on the floor in the wardrobe lol.
And did a few rows on santas hat.

Time for a wee chat on here then back into my knitting. Its the decreasing on the hat. So concentrating lol

Good afternoon everyone. I haven't been here lately as still having laptop playing up on me.

Didn't get up until 9.30am, oh bliss :-). It has been raining here since yesterday (we also had snow for a while). My back lawn looks somewhat like a swimming pool for ducks! Had a girlfriend call round for an hour or so and we looked at knitting patterns etc, as you do, lol. Have washing on the clothes rack and the heat pump on full blast at the moment as it is so cold here.

Have plans to sew up a baby cardigan and hat that I finished knitting over a month ago. The baby has been born now so I better get a move on.

Keep warm everyone.

Id probably never go back to something if I didn't sew it up as soon as I finished knitting it.
I am tempted tho to leave Santa unmade while I tutu with my blanket planning. But I wont. Cos I will lose enthusiasm for Santa.
Im expecting all my parcels thursdayish maybe..It will then be more tempting to down tools in one way, BUT I will have the long marking pins I will use when putting the toys together.
I will reuse one of the bags to send stuff onto sister in law, including the cowboy and some cotton I got from oppy for her. Will squish it down well.

LOL. Well I got the cardigan sewn up, but forgot I knitted a hat with it so have to sew that up and put some twist cords on it that hang from what they call ear flaps - lol. Have been knitting the second sock of a pair I'm doing for myself today. I have knitted so many pairs of socks for others but never done a pair for myself !

I'm doing the same pats....all my knitted sock pairs have been "acquired" by my girls and they won't give em back!.... I'm happy though cos it gives me a chance to "put a dent" in my sock wool stash! :-)

Morning all.. Well done Pats, must feel pleased to have that cardy done now.
I own one pair of knitted striped socks an old lady made for me years ago. It has to be very cold for me to wear socks, even on warfarin. So ive never bothered to learn how to knit them.
MrP is very hard on socks so we just buy them.
I got Santas hat finished last night and some boot tops. Only have his jacket skirt , belt and buckle to do.. Oh and the holly berries and leaves which in a separate part of the book. Soo he could be finished in the knitting part tonight.
Cool here this morning. I am going to change my table centrepiece. Ive had the same mikasa fruit platter on there for about 17 yrs. Sick of seeing it. So I thought Id use my cake stand, stand a big candle in it and surround it with some shells and driftwood my friends daughter collected for me about 20 yrs ago and Ive always kept.
I have a big green candle but want a Church Candle or a large cream or white one anyway. That can wait till we are out next.
Have a good day all.

hi ladies :) MrK has been online for a lot today so this is my chance to have a 'turn' lol. My Deramores order arrived yesterday, only 8 days since I placed the order. Excellent service! I've already knitted one wee wrap around cardy - I feel a tad clumsy knitting double knit after all the four ply knitting I've been doing. Have also knitted the back of a second wrap around cardy - I'll post pics when I have finished the second one.
I bet you are pleased to have the sewing done Pats :) and Popeye, your blanket will look lovely. Knitting socks is another thing on my 'to do' list!

Excellent service eh Kiwimade. Im aiming for Thursday before mine start arriving.
Wow you have been knitting up a storm. I love wrap arounds, they look soo pretty.
the jacket skirt for the Santa is 92 stitches but quite a few rows. And Ive been doing other stuff today. I might get it finished tonight, depending on how side tracked I get with other stuff.
Just tidied out a cabinet MrP made for me years ago. I have a clear shelf so that's a good sign. 2013 must be my clearing out year. lol

Another busy weekend just gone - love to be kept on the go but also love having 'me' time to get on with knitting, reading or just doing whatever I feel like.
Your planned centre piece sounds like it will be lovely Popeye.
Wrap around cardies are so useful and warm Kiwimade, I have a pattern (off ravelry) which is knitted all in one piece and have made quite a few of them for nieces' babies and always much appreciated.
I'm into socks at the present and still deciding which I prefer top down or toe up so am alternating between the 2 methods at this stage - think toe up will win. These are the first socks I have knitted and am pleased that I have learnt magic loop as I think having all those pointed needles would be much more fiddly also the lovely sock wools now available make knitting socks a lot more fun. Want to make a pair for my sister's birthday next month.
Beautiful day here after a frost this am so have to get outside and start tidying the garden up a bit while I can.

Morning all.. Just. ;lol

Nipped out early to get a new battery for the smoke alarm. Its only been up 4-6 weeks, Im guessing it was old stock. peace reigns again lol.

There was as tiny frost this morning. No wind of course and my towels are just hanging still in the sun.

Have one leaf and 2 holly berries to knit and santa is finished. I will sew him up etc and put him away for closer to Christmas. I will show you all of course. As I wont list till closer to Christmas.
Yay just heard they have caught that piece of scum who was attacking the older women etc.
Am going to have to google magic loop to see what you are all talking about lol
Have a good day

afternoon ladies :) I've been outside this morning too jayemtoo, once the frost went I managed to get some weeding done. Still have a bit to do, edges to trim, bean fence to tidy up, lawns to mow and garden rubbish burnt. MrK is doing along the roadside so that is less to do.
I heard that on the radio too popeye, am so pleased for all the elderly residents. What a piece of work he is!
I've also got to google magic loop as well, DPN aren't my thing lol!
Happy knitting.

Socks (Toe up) finished here too and my tootsies are loving it! :-) Had to change back to 4 needles from Magic loop as the circular needle I had keep catching the wool on the last two stitches, which had me having to stop and push them up onto the needle every time.
So a new circular needle of that sizing will be on my to buy list, as I love the magic loop method.
More socks to knit for my agenda....and am hoping to start a mitred block sock wool only lap quilt with the leftover wool.
Yay to the police for catching that depraved piece of work in Auckers...Hand him over to the victims children and friends I say!!
Though I'm sure some inmates will want a "wee chat" with him in prison I should think!

morning and welcome carolev :) Foggy and damp here today, I have a few things to do before I get into my knitting. Finished the second baby cardy so will stitch it together today and post pics. Had JUST enough yarn to finish the knitting, was getting a tad nervous towards the end of the last sleeve lol. I'll have to find some yarn from my stash to stitch it together.
Happy knitting :)

Morning and Welcome Carolev. I must look at pineterest. I sign up but haven't been back.
My last half an hour a day is looking at amazons free books lol.

Ohh Kiwimade I know what that's like, trying to cross fingers, hold ya breath and hoping it would reach lol

I did a bit of test knitting last night, but did double knitting on 4.5mm needles. But have decided its too lose.. Even tho it will be double thickness. It would be horrible to sew up. So think Ill stick with 4mm needles.
Back to sewing Santa up today tho. His main body piece is together. hes quite a big boy. MrP says make sure he has a fat Tummy lol.
Its mild here, no rain fog etc. but dark clouds are looming.

Have a good day everyone

Well I don't know what it's like outside but it was only 12 degrees in my lounge when I got up (late as I'd watched Wimbledon till some ungodly hour this morning) so I've just lit the fire and waiting for it to warm up. Fog rolled in soon after I got up but it's gone now. I know what you mean about the needle size. I'm knitting a baby blanket with 8ply and it's on 5mm needles and when I'd done about 60 rows (it's done in strips then joined together) I decided it was too loose, but couldn't be fagged unpicking what I'd done, so I'm on the last strip now, but I'm really wishing I'd unpicked and started again. Even 4.5mm would have been better. I have enough yarn to do another so will probably do that on 4mm needles but might have to make an extra strip so that it's wide enough. I'll see. Out this afternoon, so I get a break from his nibbs who seems to want to do nothing these days but sit around and moan. Wouldn't mind if he had something serious to moan about.

Well I think that's a record for me.. 6 days for my delivery from deramores.
I have one ball still coming and my marker pins.
The purple I ordered is pink oops, that's for my SILS grand daughter so I don't think it will matter.
And the cream I ordered for the blanket is lemon.

I have no idea how that happened but it will look good in the blanket anyway.
I now have two full sets of Pony needles and crochet hooks. So I can sell all the others, or take to the oppy if not wanted on here.

Excellent service.

Stylecraft Life Dk,,, Chocolate Nepp is lovley.. its chocolate brown of course with a tweedy fleck in it. For my sils grandson who was born on my birthday

Morning all. Another dull day here. not warm, not freezing lol.

I started my blanket last night. Have settled on 60 sts on 4mm needles. Im doing it in garter stitch. Will take a long time, but its good that I can just sit in my nice warm bed and knit without thinking too much. I measured by using the needles. I predict it will be about 1.8m / 6foot square. so it will cover the top of my bed.

Will finish Santa today. Only have is beard and mostache , and hat and holly to put on.. Ohh and I spose he needs his nose and eyes lol. Will take a photo later.

Cant wait to see more photos....

Have a good day

love love loved it popeye :) Going to do a few more rows on the baby's shawl I started the other day... 90 repeats for the main piece to do but luckily you don't knit full rows, you turn part way through to make a curve. Must admit, I am enjoying knitting 2ply, it's so light on your lap as you knit.
Happy knitting :)

Santa is great Popeye.
The shawl sounds like being an achievement Kiwimade.
I'm loving knitting socks and especially new techniques - have just mastered Judy's cast on - so easy and makes toe up, magic loop socks even easier. I wore my first pair this week and now have to make more as they are so warm and now I have mastered them I want to make some for presents
Cold dull day here so hope to get another sock done as not much fun outside today.

Oooh cant wait to see it Kiwimade. Sounds interesting.

I have some 3 and 4 ply in a plastic crate for Oneday lol.. From when I used to do premmie clothes.

Have decided to get MrP some of the Chocolate Nepp wool and knit MrP a zip up cardy. He loves wearing cardies more than jumpers but has pins in his thumbs so cant do buttons. And I never seem to be able to find any of the cardies he likes that warehouse used to have.
Other than hats I haven't knitted anything for him before, didn't need too lol.
Was nice to sit in my nice warm bed watching tv and knitting away without thinking last night.
Blowing hear this morning so Ill go through my bag of hats and scarves and co-ordinate my clothes with the extra layers lol.

Have a good day all

Morning all. Got my order from skeinz on Tuesday so been busy crocheting up some beanies for my granddaughter and a wee one year old. Loving the vibrant coloured wool I got. A good friend of my eldest daughter is pregnant and I have offered to knit her some baby gear so now I need to look at buying baby wool. Thinking I might check out Deramores next week when I have broadband access and look at what they have available.

Morning ladies, what a miserable day here, cold and windy, not particularly cold but I've lit the fire just to cheer the place up and heat the hot water more than anything else (the water gets soooooo hot - I can have a lovely long hot shower and tell myself it's only costing me the price of the water really) anyhow, it looks like a quick tidy up and maybe flick the duster round, then I'll spend some time knitting and have a couple of sessions on the treadmill. I weighed myself yesterday and now weigh the same with my clothes on as I weighed a couple of weeks ago without them, so however heavy my clothes are is what I've lost so far.

Last ball of wool and my marker pins have arrived. 8 days for the lot, but both orders only took 6 days each.
I have got the wool beside me to start Mrs Claus. Forgot to take Santa to the supermarket, so next week will do, or Perhaps when Mrs Claus is done.

Got a lovely cookbook for one of my friends Christmas present this morning. I nearly got it for her birthday but something else caught my eye. And I saved $5 by getting it today.
Will parcel up the wool and cowboy etc to go to my sil tomorrow. The Deramores bags will come in Very Handy lol. I notice they are double bagging things now which is good.
The marker pins I got are good, longer than normal pins and Not sharp Yay, Nothing worse than having to stop and wrap my finger till it stops bleeding, cos of the blood thinners lol

Not terribly warm tho.

Hope everyone is being productive. Keep the pictures coming.. There are soo many talented people out there.

Have finished one of Mrs Claus legs and started the next. I will have to dig out some fingerless gloves tho cos my hands are going slow lol.

Spoke to SIL about the colour of the pink wool. she was ok about it. Sent it yesterday so I imagine she should have it ina few days, She lives in Waverly , down by Patea and Wanganui.

Am totally resisting the 30% off one a lot of deramores lines...

afternoon ladies :) Finally got the lawns finished and cleared away the pile of weeds which didnt fit into the wheelie bin last week so have just been sitting in the middle of a garden. It makes such a difference having the lawns mowed :)
Might get some knitting or sewing done today if i can get two little terriers (terrors lol) off the couch. I think they are tuckered out chasing after me with the lawnmower and each other!
Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.. We have a dooozy frost this morning... I actually put a dressing gown on, which is rare for me. Its the winter one we got mum not long before she died, but she never got to wear it.
Either I have short arms or they are putting long sleeves on everything. Cos I have about 7 inches rolled up. And I have to do the same with the thermals and merino I got the other day too lol.
SIL got her parcel yesterday and she is very happy. Loves the chocolate Nepp wool too.
She has a pattern for a zip up cardy, so will send me a copy which is good. Will have to fit that in somewhere lol. but for next winter Im thinking

Knitting away yesterday, obviouslty no brain in gear cos I knitted two right feet..AGAIN lol. so I thought Ill brave it and took it off the needles and undid it down to the shaping. Managed to pick it up, no twisted stitches and am back to where I was at.
So Ive learnt to do that at least lol

Any bright Ideas about how to stop the wool ripping the skin at the bottom of my nail on my index finger, off. Ive been using plasters etc, but there has to be another way... I might try changing how I have the wool in my hand.. Its looking horrible and with the cold isn't much fun.

Have a good day all

morning ladies :) We had a doozy of a frost too but hopefully will be a fine day. Popeye have you thought of a thimble? I hate those metal ones but you can get rubber ones office people use to flick through paper. They fit better and are 'bendy'.
I'm finding it very hard to knit as the Furry One gets quite possessive when my sisters terror wants attention which is when I sit down. Fun fun!
Happy knitting :)
Edited to add quilters also have leather type thimbles I think which may work better, especially when using needles.

Popeye333 maybe cut a finger off a disposable glove and tape around the bottom of it. Those cheapy ones from the supermarket in packs of 10 for aound $2 would do the job. they are firm fitting but very light.

popeye, have you tried using the fabric type plaster, or even just the fabric sticky tape for making your own dressings. I can imagine it's a real pain, but it must be the way you hold your wool, 'cos I've just tried and the wool goes across my finger just below my knuckle - the one closest to my nail. Cold here this morning too. I have only just got up and we haven't had breakfast yet. Hubby brought me a cup of tea in bed, but I got up before I drank it. I haven't lit the fire yet, but we've got the heat pump on. It's good but I don't think it warms the place up as quickly as the woodfire. I plan to get a few groceries today and do some knitting, and I will have to start the BTU (big tidy up) as it's my turn this Tuesday to have the Tuesday afternoon mah jong session here.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Yeah have tried all sorts of tapes and plasters.
Will try the disposable glove tho, I have some here. Was thinking too Ill use the hand lotion more too and it might heal it up a bit.
Im a hand washer so that doesn't help much either. I get it from my grandmother on dads side. We are meticulous with hand washing lol
What a morning, My poor ear, SIL rang twice, I was hanging out washing the first time so sat out in the sun for ages. Then she rang back and a friend too.
She has copied the pattern for me and found a zip for it too. Just need the wool now.
Was intending on making some bulk listings of left over cross stitch stuff but haven't got that far yet.
Hope everyone has thawed out..
