I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

Morning all.. I know what that's like Kuaka, putting my bed together was a work out for me. Up and down on the floor that many times etc.
Cowboy is progressing, he has his hair and ears on and the chaps. Have got his arms and hat to do, oh and face.
Im also going to make a lariat and attatch that to his side.

I use pillows to stuff my toys. Often getting the nice clean ones from the oppys. Yesterday the one I used had a huge sachet of lavender in the middle. I wondered what the heck it was. The weird bit was there was nothing on the label about washing instructions etc, I didn't know they made them commercially like that. I wondered what the heck was in there.
so if there is any lingering smell he will be a lavender smelling cowboy lol.. He should be finished today I think.
Then I have to make the Maori boy.. that will be different.

oohhh kuaka a treadmill - nice! That;s something I wouldn't mind getting as MrK has to exercise more now he is no longer working.
can't wait for my Deramores order to come, I've ordered some yarn to knit some wrap around cardys for our grandy. I bought the pattern from Deramores in my last order (it's a JC Brett pattern). What really cheesed me off was after I sent the order, I checked my e mails and there was an e mail from Deramores offering me a 15% discount as I hadn't purchased anything in a while lol. Oh well, that's the way it goes. I have two weeks to use it but don't 'need' anymore yarn/wool... wait... what has 'need' got to do with it lol

I know what you mean kiwi - I got a 10% discount coupon when my order arrived, but it has to be used by 9th July, and I can't see me making much of an inroad into the three and a half kilos of yarn which I received on Wednesday, well not enough to justify me placing another order. I can't believe they can afford to send it all airmail and still make money, postage from the UK is expensive - I know from when I receive anything from my sister.

I know what you mean about postage ladies. It cost $13-20 to send five trays of Cottons to Reefton last week, how can they still make money from England sending those huge bags to us.
I don't know that its a "need" either. Its more like we are buying now so we will have plenty to do in later life lol...
Lets face it, its an Addiction lol...

OOOPSSS. major booboo lol... Sewed one side of the chaps on wrong. only realised when I went to put the belt on.. Couldn't take it off without damaging it, so will have to reknit one side. Better to knit that than a new leg tho which is all one piece with the body.
Don't know why I didn't notice cos the garter stitch was running two diff ways lol...
Bu**er

What a pain popeye. I've just started a baby blanket - it's in 8ply and done on 5mm needles. Thought maybe I should use 4.5mm instead as I tend to knit a bit on the loose side, then decided I'd stick to the recommended size. It's knitting up nice and soft, but I think it's a tad loose and will probably end up being a bit bigger than it's supposed to be. Never mind. Looks like I have enough yarn to do a second one the same, so I'll do that on 4.5mm needles. I don't suppose the recipient will mind seeing as it's for Beanies for Babies.

kuaka - 2013-06-15 16:24:00
1457

Im sure they wont mind Kuaka... The piece of Chap I have to do is on 4.5mm so it wont take long to make. First big mistake for the toys...
Thankfully its white so easy to knit at night.

Morning All.
I got the bit of chap reknitted last night. and have only to do his face, put the hat on and make a lariat.
Just had a huge shock. A mother and son we knew in Mango passed away. The son John on Wednesday and his mother who would have been 99 on Halloween day on Friday. We always knew she only lived for her son.
Cant believe it really I thought we would be making the trip down for her 100th Birthday next year.

Oh dear, that's sad popeye, but maybe it's just for the better, if as you say the mum only lived for the son, she would have been lost without him, and I'd say she did pretty well to live to the age that she did.

Talk about miserable weather here, cold, wet and windy. At least it's windy. When my sister phoned on Thursday she said it was cold, wet and blowing a gale, and I said to her "but it's summer there isn't it?" and she said "No, that was last week!"

kuaka - 2013-06-16 09:49:00
1460

awww sorry to hear of your sad news popeye :(
hehehe kuaka my Brit friend I went to uni with posted on FB she had hung her washing out but was expecting to bring it in... hang it out... bring it in... lol. I thought it was summer there too!
It's wet and miserable here too and the Furry One does not want to go out - he hates the rain. Been pottering about changing things around slightly, will get some knitting done later. Love these wet days - I can knit or sew guilt free lol.
Happy knitting :)

Your right Kuaka Marge wouldn't have wanted to live without John.. She was the first person that brought one of my scarecrows, back in 1988.

Wet and windy here now too. But its not cold.

Ive started putting hat on the cowboy. He has a face now. Will finish him while I watch Coro. Soo much easier to watch it on a sunday and gives me more options on the weekdays lol.

Perfect day for pottering around the house and knitting.

Shawl knitting for me this cold and wet day, but then, it always is for me - whatever the weather. Had a laugh this morning - my youngest is in U.K at the moment - ask for a flat white to take away..........was given a takeaway cup filled with red wine!!!!! Told him I should have given him elocution lessons before he left. Also told him to use pen and paper conversation with people when he gets to Scotland and when he is in Ireland.

Hmmm Marge was 101... I think I have her birthday and anothers mixed up. But I know it was Halloween day.

And my earlier comment was meant to say "at least it's winter" not "at least it's windy". Was a bit early in the morning for me when I posted that.

That's so funny nannymaid. Reminds me of a time when I was back there and was on holiday in the Lake district with a friend. We were sitting in a pub, and these two chaps (from Sunderland) came over and said something about sitting down. We obviously didn't hear the same thing, as one of us thought they said "could they sit with us" and the other thought they'd asked "was anyone sitting with us", so one of us said yes and the other said no. We all looked a bit puzzled. They did sit with us for a while, but their accents were so broad we struggled, I said afterwards, "never thought I'd need an interpreter for someone who speaks English".

Sorry to hear your news popeye. Marge certainly lived to a good age.

Nannymaid that reminds me of when I was in Rome - slightly different sort of thing - we went into a café and I asked for a latte. They delivered a cup of hot milk to our table - lol. Apparently I should have asked for a café latte.

Had a wonderful week staying out with my girlfriend in the country. The weather was great and we went to the beach on four days with the dogs. Did some cross-stitch and tried to crochet a blanket but it was a disaster. I was really disappointed as I felt I wasted so much time. Came home yesterday and last night I picked up the crochet hook again. Gave up on the blanket but tried a peggy square and am absolutely delighted with the result. Mind you, I was up until 1.30 this morning doing it - lol.

It was lovely having a sleep-in this morning as it was cold and wet outside (still is). I am now going to do another peggy square and change some of the colours around. Here is what I did last night.

Side View.

Quite pleased with how he turned out. Took eight days, would have been 7 if I hadn't mucked up the chaps lol.

Have started a Santa and will do Mrs Claus too. To list on here near the end of the year. Maori boy on hold for now, till MrP gets out of his tizzy lol..

Hi everyone, sorry I don't seem to be getting in here much lately, and haven't read all the way back.
Just wanted to pop in and say hi - I did see your cowboy on the other thread popeye, and read about Marge who sounds delightful, and her son - sad they are both gone, but in a way nice they are still together.
I love your crochet square pats, well done, I'm glad you had a nice week away also.
A good day for knitting over much of the country it seems, and some horrible things happening weather wise as well. Hope you are all warm and safe, take care xo

I just cant help thinking about those people in Wellington with the houses on the edge of that slip...
I wouldn't want to go back in the house, maybe to empty it but that's all.
This rain is not going to help at all.

Its soo nice to think of the many who are still doing crafts like knitting and crochet etc... I thought it might die out but hopefully it never will

Hi maible - nice to "see" you again. I went out to Loburn to stay with my girlfriend. It is so nice out there. The beach we went to was at Pegasus. It's the first time I've been to Pegasus Town - it is fantastic - the lake, other waterways, lovely walks the beach etc. In fact I would find it very easy to live there.

Popeye - the cowboy looks great. I too, thought knitting and crochet were dying out too but it's definitely not the case. I know the knitting group I used to go to, there were several younger girls there as in, 20s and upwards. It is great to see.

Thanks for comments re my peggy square :-)

Apparently U.K is the only country which has so many different English 'languages' (different slang terms, sayings etc as well as accents) I had no trouble when I lived there, but guess it would be difficult for a 'foreigner'. Love watching all the British programmes just to listen to the accents...takes me back home......nostalgia! Love your toys popeye, I made the scarecrow many years ago, was so fiddley decided not to give it to my son and kept it for display!....won't be doing toys again!!!!

Hi all. left early with a friend to go to the superclinic today, so didn't have time to hang around too long on here.
Hope everyone is drying out. It hasn't rained here today, well it did at Manurewa but not here.
Managed to get one foot and leg and the foot done on a santa last night. not bad considering it was black to start with for his Gummies.
Said to my friend this morning that my brother would ring today, since I wasn't home lol.. Id been sending esp for the last week lol. and he did. Will ring him soon for a catch up. Its so nice being in contact with him again after mum playing us off each other for most of our lives.
Hope everyone is safe from all the waters... and drying out

Had a funny sort of day today but did manage to get some knitting done. Nearly finished my second throw (same colour as my first but different pattern) and should finish in time for my Deramores order to arrive.
It's Mum's aniversary today - she's been gone three years now. The weather was just too rough to go out so will visit her tomorrow with some flowers.
Happy knitting :)

morning ladies :) I've bidded on a portable cot and blankets in Franklin area so if I win looks like I may have another trip to Auckland. Have noooo idea where 'Franklin' is, kinda hoping it's not on the 'other' side of Auckland! Want it for when daughter and family (that sounds sooo nice lol) visit and it will save them lugging extra baby stuff up with them.
Need to visit Mum's grave today and get a few bits and pices done before I do any knitting today.
Happy knitting :)

Morning all... Kiwimade, Franklin is from Pukekohe, out to Miranda on the east and out to Waiuku where I am and includes Tuakau too. So it could be anywhere kinda level with the Bombays, Ill be able to tell you when you win.
Feel a bit blah today... probably cos I was over tired yesterday and the warm cold is knocking me about.
Where is Mum Kiwi? My mother and stepfather are in Te Aroha, MrPs parents in newstead Hamilton.
On Friday it will be 39 years since my dad died... 4/5ths of my life, but as I said to my brother yesterday, who said he leaves that in the past. I said if Dad hadn't died our lives may have turned out very different. So he started the chain of events that shaped our lives. He agreed and hadn't thought of it that way.
Its soo nice to be having a relationship with him now. Never had that before.
Am up to the first decreasings on the santa body.. Will sit and knit today. Have a good day all

popeye333 - 2013-06-18 09:02:00
1478

popeye - I feel the same way about my Dad. He died when I was 12, and I know for certain that if he had lived I never would have married my first husband (and therefore probably would never have come to NZ to live). Who knows. I do know it took me a long long time to get over my father's death.

Just done a few rows on a baby blanket I'm knitting, and am about to go and post some wool I sold on here because I decided I am not going to use it

Foggy start to the day, but the sun is shining now, it's cold though, well colder than it has been the last few days.

Happy knitting ladies.

Was the same for me Kuaka.. Mianly cos I was daddies little girl lol.. but cos the night before he died we argued and in the morning I didn't get up to see him off to work. He died at work.
Needless to say the rule of Never going to be on an argument has never been broken again.
But these things have to happen, Id never have met MrP otherwise.

And its 24 yrs ago today that I went to be his house keeper, then married the boss. My mother and her Mother did the same too.

Its still very grey here but the sun is shining too. not cold tho which is good.

Hi Ladies, just popped in to let you all know i am still around.
I'm not firing on all cylinders today. It took me ages to get out of bed this morning. I had to get up cos i had a casserole to make before heading to work otherwise I'd have nothing for tea.mrswhiskey is home from work for the week with a pulled muscle in his back. I can't seem to get anything done when he's home either lol. I have managed to wind some hanks of mum's homespun wool into balls so i can attempt a fisherman's rib beanie. I've always wanted a fisherman's rib beanie done in natural coloured homespun wool. I love the one Robyn posted on Facebook. So I'm gonna see if i can take 3 different pieces of 3 different beanies and add them into one beanie. I like the band on one beanie on Ravelry, the fisherman's rib main part of Robyn's and the crown on another one on Ravelry. We'll see. I need to recharge my batteries first. Have a happy knitting day ladies

HI Whiskey.
I was going to put a casserole in the crockpot this morning. But I didn't have the oomph to bother lol.. when the weather changes from warm to cold or if I get in sudden temp changes it totally wipes me out. Its to do with my heart.. So the casserole will happen tomorrow.
I am feeling a bit better now tho.
Ive always wanted to do Fishermans rib. That will be brave too with the decreasing in it and keeping the pattern correct.
What a dull day we have had... Am a third of the way on Santas head, haven't done much knitting at all.

Hi has anyone here ordered wool from www.skeinz.com? I ordered some today for my projects and am curious. I tried to get onto Deramores, but the broadband at the computer hub was playing up and I couldn't get it to load, and I have dialup at home so have had no luck with it loading here either.

I think it depends on what you are purchasing I have brought from both places and I only buy wool - D place has better prices for the more expensive wools eg Debbie bliss etc but it does depend on who you are knitting for and what quality wool you purchase.

You could well be right. I just bought organic wool and a few other 8ply balls. Guess I will see when I get it. Might have to do a deramores next time and compare, though I don't usually buy more expensive wool as such. I am making some beanies with owl faces etc on them at the minute and trying to just get good colours mainly.

morning ladies :) Popeye, mum passed away three years ago and I often 'talk' to her, sound things out if you like. I did win and I didn't win the auction, I was under the reserve so the seller offered me a fixed price for the cot. But, by then my friend had spotted me bidding and offered me her grand daughter's portable cot, buggy and highchair for a very reasonable price. Add on top of that I don't need to travel an hour and a half to Auckland, it was too good to turn down so I declined the seller's offer. Wish there was some way I could explain to her why I declined :S.
Have a few things to do today then I'm going to finish my throw. My Deramores order should be here over the next few days so really need to get it finished before I start baby knitting again.
Happy knitting :)

kiwimade, if that seller has other auctions running, you could "ask a question" on one of her auctions just explaining that you ended up buying the stuff locally, otherwise you would have happily accepted her offer even though it meant travelling.

Morning all,

Glad that turned out well re the cot etc Kiwi. Travelling up would have added to the cost with the fuel too. And you got a lot more too. Well done.
I finished the main body piece of the Santa last night. Was looking at the pattern theres not a huge amount of pieces to him, and the largest bit is done now.
I call on my step father a lot. Especially when I need a car park lol. Was funny on Monday when out with my friend. she called on her mother to change the lights. Didn't work so she called on her father, that didn't work, so I said Jimmy slap Ian out of the way and change the lights please, they changed lol and we laughed our heads off, after I said thank you.

HAve put the casserole in the crockpot already so tea for MrP is sorted.. A quiet day knitting today.
Im going to delay the washing and do it tomorrow and use the dryer, it will heat the house if the temperature is going to drop lol

Once my SIL shows in my bank account Ill do our deramores order.. yay

Have a good day all

Wow - we have just had some spectacular thunder & lightning, hailstones and rain like you wouldn't believe. Couldn't even see the houses half a kilometre away! What better excuse could there be to sit and knit and not feel guilty, especially as I've just done the vacuuming. Pity I didn't bring more firewood in before the rain set in. I have some in, but not enough to last tomorrow as well. Hopefully there will be a break in the rain and I can zap down to the firewood stack and grab some (it's on the lower level of the garden - not enough room on this level for it - the joys of having a steep section eh?)

Oopsy $157 later, but $70 of it is sister in laws lol

But I will have 2 full sets of 25 and 30cms needles. I have a few pairs but will be nice to have them all in one container at my fingertips. And short needles are the best for knitting toy bits.
Have also ordered some more royal blue, light blue and cream to add to what I have and Ill knit myself a blanket inbetween toys. I know what I want to do just have to figure out how to get the colours where I want it. Cos id like to knit the scarves and weave them together. Will be double thick that way.
The things I do to myself lol... Still if I chicken out it will be crochet in the same way as others we have.
Which are dark mauve, light mauve and cream, old fashioned pick, light pink and cream and the last is darker green light green and cream. They look soo nice that way.

And wouldn't you know it, the only order on back order is one of my sils wool lol

thanks for idea of asking a question on another of the sellers auctions ladies, she doesn't have anything listed at the moment but I'll keep an eye out for anything else she lists and leave a message explaining. I feel so bad about it.
Ooooohhhh kuaka, I love lightening! We got nothing like that here, just some heavy rain this evening.
And popeye, that would be murphy's law it was your sister-in-law's order lol. I was lucky, there are no backorders for me this time.
I finished all the knitting and sewing up of my throw and have crocheted around it in half trebles and am now doing the fringe. Am making it thicker than my first throw and only putting the fringe on the ends this time. Husband was away when I did the fringe for the first one and he's been watching me do the knots lol - can be quite unnerving!
Happy knitting :)

Hi Dwebbie - I get nearly all my wool from Skeinz and find them really reasonable and some good bargains, most of my knitting is for babies and preschoolers so only buy wool. I also get good quality wool by the skein there for making felted slippers which is a lot cheaper than buying balls of wool.
Just love the toy kiwicarol.
Have left the much warmer Hawkes Bay and am now in a rather cold Wellington for a few days. At least got here ahead of any snow on the Rimutakas although there was quite a bit slip near the top.

She is soooo cute Carol.. Love her..

I have brain drain today. Its going to be one of those days where it will take me twice as long to do anything and many attempts to get thigns right lol

Totally forgot to order the long marker pins from Deramores yesterday have cheekily asked if they could be put in with the delayed ball of wool. Havent heard yet.
