darn. i'm going to have to miss it this year. hopefully smurf or someone who went can let us know what it was like. and if anyone is planning to go I am looking for some static grass about 5 - 6mm long if they want to buy it and put on TM. most readily available stuff is only 3mm.

the futuristic (sp) layout I saw in the ODT looked pretty cool. hope its at the timaru show. how were the crowds this year smurf. good weather = good turnout or not.

have you tried locojohn for your static grass i found him to be very good and quick to import when i have needed something.the kids loved route 66 this year and they found all the r18 bits around the layout like the nude sauna people and the couple having sex

selena - was locojohn quick with his replies. I have emailed several times now and no reply. also tried trevor bringans but no replies from them either.... and local shops/suppliers get the huff because people buy direct. this is the reason why I think.

usually i found him pretty good to deal with but a couple of times he was slow ask on one of his auctions to speed him up.

Apologies up front for a small hi-jack, however you guys seem to know your trains and I would appreciate some help.
I recently unearthed an item from my childhood ( circa 1958) it's a Hornby locomotive. We used to call them clockwork train sets back in the day.
The only identifying makings I can find is a small label inside the cab.
It states " Hornby made in England, by Meccano ltd. Type 501.

I'd been keen to learn if any one still has these things, if it has any real value etc etc. Is there some one up my way, Wellington/ Kapiti Coast who might know?

Any help in these areas appreciated.

I have seen a few full sets (loco, 3 carriages and track) advertised for between £50 and £200 in the UK. I guess the variation would be due to condition. haven't seen any local sales or any for the loco only. if you get stuck I could ask on a model railway forum i am a member of but it could take a day or two to get a reply.

another great show but their admission price may be starting to put people off. just too much at $10. most are only $5 or $7. didn't seem to be the crowd there that there normally was.

treecave - 2013-10-22 00:10:00
130

A cheap day out at $10, where else can you get a day for that price

smurf14 - 2013-10-23 21:40:00
131

true its cheap compared to most outings but not for a train show.

Purchased from a now closed shop a Bachmann N scale American 4-4-0 train set. The electric controller failed almost immediately. First it stopped when in reverse, then it failed altogether. To many problems with warranties. I think this is a common problem when you look on the net. Anyone had a go at fixing these controllers ?

falconer - 2014-04-30 13:32:00

don't fix the controller get yourself a new one
it will be better quality

I thought Bachmann was a good product. What one should I go for?

falconer - 2014-05-08 16:11:00
147

go to a ,model train shop and get a good quality one most brands are good even Bachmann is ok. The controllers you get with sets are only for beginning in the hobbie

I purchased a controller at the train show. Very worth while. And it was an OK show.

bugger missed it. i like the dunners show.

treecave - 2014-05-16 19:42:00

I got a MRC tech 4 controller and its brilliant. very smooth controls and a braking feature. only trouble was
its 120v but a step up transformer cured that.
