chocolate_gran, here is a tried and tested and loved recipe for crockpot lasagne. From Alison Holst, 100 great ways to use slow cookers and crockpots. Great book. Loved whereever I have taken it.

Alison's Lazy lasagne.

4-6 servings
LOW cook for 8-9 hours ( I would suggest 7 hours).

Lasagne

2 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped
1x 400gm can of whole or diced tomatoes in juice
1x 30g pkt tomato soup, or tomato and onion soup mix
500gm minced beef
1/2 cup tomato paste
1 tsp each dried basil and oregano
2 tsp instant beef stock
1 cup of hot water
250 g (about 3-4 cups) small lasagne shapes or long lasagne sheets

Topping:

2 tsp cornflour
1 large egg
3/4 cup milk, sour cream or a mixture of these
1 cup of tasty cheese
paprika (optional) I used this.
To Make the Lasagne:

Turn the slow cooker on HIGH to preheat & coat the bowl with non-stick spray.

Put the garlic & tomatoes (with any juice) into a food processor or large bowl & process or mash with a fork to break up the tomatoes. Add the soup mix, minced beef, tomato paste, herbs, stock and water, then process or mix until well combined.

Spread 1/3 of mixture evenly over the bottom of the cooker. Place half the lasagne noodles over the meat. Repeat the layering with another 1/3 of the meat mixture, then remaining lasagne then cover with last 1/3 of meat.

To Make the Topping:

To make the topping, mix together the topping ingredients and pour this over the top and sprinkle with paprika if you like (optional). Turn the slow cooker to LOW & cook for 8-9 hours. Serve with a green salad or cooked vegetables and garlic bread.

I fluked a great crockpot dish last week - I brought some Buderim Sweet Ginger Sauce when on the sunshine coast - came as part of a "deal" after the Ginger factory tour and it has been sitting in the pantry ever since (over 6 months).
I skinned 12 chicken drumsticks. Mixed about 1/2 cup sweet ginger sauce with about 1/2 cup soya sauce and a teaspoon on crushed garlic. Stirred it through the drumsticks and when to work. Came home to a delicious crockpot meal - just flicked on the rice cooker boiled some cauli and broccoli and dinner was delicious - it made lots of tasty sauce to spoon over the rice....

Oooh sounds yum Toady and just the kind of thing I was looking for.
I have ginger syrup drink concentrate in the fridge so I'll improvise with that :)
My local Fresh Choice has chicken drums for $4/kg.
Just wish I had a bigger freezer!

Mrs B here. Hubby hated corned beef till he had it done in the crockpot. I just put a desertspoon of golden syrup in the heated up crockpot, another of white or apple cider vinegar pop the meat on top of that, then just cover with boiling water. Cook for around 6 hours on high. Devine. What sort of sausages do people cook in their crocks? Hubby loves devilled sausages.

I like to cover mine with water, but I use no flavouring either. I let mine go cold in the water if I am cooking it to eat as cold meat......delicious and moist

Late to the party, but we've had a broth going for over a week now... swapped the meat/ bones out yesterday.
Talk about easy dinners! Just prepare a few little things (tonight we're having fish, shiitake and noodles) ladle broth over them, and finish off on the stovetop.

Then top the slow cooker back up with water.

Chunky Steak Pie (slow cooker recipe)

Ingredients

1kg chuck steak diced
1 onion diced
1 can cream of chicken soup(no water added)
1 beef stock cube(no water)
3-4 tablespoons of gravox (dry) - beef bisto I found in international section of supermarket works well, do not use bisto gravy mix because it is far too salty (one in gravy aisle)
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
About 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce(maybe a little bit more)
Splash of worcestershire sauce

Instructions

Coat beef in flour and brown in butter over medium heat(doesn’t have to be fully cooked through) add onion half way through to soften.

Mix all other ingredients in slow cooker and add beef. Cook on low for 8 hours.

If mixture starts to get dry add a little bit of water, depending on slow cooker heat.

Preheat oven to 170 degrees.
Line baking dish with puff pastry, scoop beef mixture in and put a sheet of pastry on top and cut to fit dish.
Cook in oven for about 20 minutes or until pastry is a nice golden colour.
No need to blind bake pie base.

Just a note if you are struggling to cook beef in your slow cooker which I was. It took only approx 4 hrs in my breville fast slow cooker on the 6hr setting for my gravy beef recipe to be melt in the mouth gorgeous!
I used a countdown recipe off a pad when in store last week if you want the recipe which was quite good. Involved 1 cup of red wine and mushrooms.

My main point to make is do not trust your newish slow cooker to leave on all day as it may over cook and dry out your meal. Test them when you are around. Ps mine is a few years old.

Alison Holsts Lazy lasagne is a hit in our house. Have made it before where I cooked the lasagne in the crockpot and then took to sister in laws house where we put it on warm and it was great for lunch with a nice salad and crusty bread. Lazy Lasagne:

For 4-6 servings.

2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
500 g mince
1 pkt tomato soup mix
¼ cup tomato paste
Can of tomato puree
2 tspn instant beef stock powder
1 cup hot water
1 tspn each of oregano, and basil (dried)
250g (about 3-4 cups) small lasagna shapes or long lasagna strips.
Topping:
2 tspn cornflour
1 large egg
¾ cup milk, sour cream or a mixture (I just use Soy milk)
1 cup grated tasty cheese
Paprika, optional

Turn the slow cooker on to HIGH to preheat and coat the bowl with non stick spray.
Put the garlic, tomato puree, tomato paste, herbs, beef stock and tomato soup pkt and mince into a bowl and combine well together. Adding the hot water last before mixing.

Spread one third of the meat mixture evenly over the bottom of the slow cooker bowl. Place half the lasagna noodles over the meat. (the recipe doesn’t say so but I put a small amount of grated cheese over the noodles) and then add another layer of 1/3 meat mixture, the remaining pasta (another sprinkling of cheese) and then cover with remaining 1/3 meat mixture. (You may like to keep a bit more than a third of the meat mixture for the top layer)

To make the topping, mix together the cornflour, egg, milk (and/or sour cream) and cheese. Pour this over everything in the slow cooker and sprinkle with paprika (if using)

Turn the slow cooker to LOW and cook for 8-9 hours.

I love her lazy lasagne, but I've never made in the crockpot before. Must try it.

Hi I mentioned in the 'Slow' message thread, that my root veges never seem to cook even cut in tiny tiny pieces, and had a couple of replys, thanks. Just asking here if anyone has the same problem, because after spending so much money I am wondering if I should take it back as it puts me off using it. Thanks for any comments.

In one of my crockpot recipe books it said to put the Veges in the crockpot first, then the meat etc

I throw my pork ribs in slow cooker, add cup water lid on and cook on low. When done remove and put in a large oven proof dish. Make a sauce in a saucepan of cup tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons prepared mustard, 2 tablespoons tomato paste, teasp garlic salt, 1 1/4 cups brown sugar, 1/2 teasp celery salt. Mix all and simmer low heat till sauce is thick. Pour over ribs, using pastry brush coat ribs well and pop under grill till ribs start to caramilise, turn once coating in sauce when nicely caramelized sauce is bubbling serve piled up on a platter. Sticky to eat but yummy.

I've always done the golden syrup thing with corned beef, but I also add a whole clove studded onion (my nan taught me that one) it's really nice & the flavours are helpful in the mustard sauce, as well.

When working out of town in forestry years ago, the wife would give me the slow cooker with all the bits in, meat etc.
Would be cooking from the time I got to the motel until the last night (Thursday night).
Started as a casserole and ended as a soup.
Eat a meal each night and add a little for the next.

Regarding the Maggi Chicken Chasseur mix. I have used and loved this mix for years but recently it has come out as a New recipe and it is awful. No flavour at all. Thought it was because I had been sick so tried again and family also thought it was tasteless. Such a shame

If you do not have your own chickens then why not buy frozen? That way you do not need to wash or splash and you can throw the whole frozen chook or parts thereof (whatever you bought) into the roaster, add some stock, put on the lid and all is "safe".
