Its true aye 'you can never have too much fabric'

#Post
101

I sew .. It was my son who said: I dont need to shop ever again!!.. Hubby heard him and agreed.!!!
BUT Im being practical!!
I usually sew for myself.. Often colours,(usually autmny tones) or weight are not available when I want them..
Stock up when they are available.. Especially when on sale price..
I explained to both lads how much I save by doing it this way!!

WOW Holly :) That looks absooooolutely FANTASTIC oooooh You will be going in just to look at it wow the ROOM has turned into a HAVEN. That is a good bookcase it holds alot. First couple of pics are hard to copy & paste, you have to take "-" off the end of the row and manually put in the numbers (in case someone cant get in ) last pic is fine. Maybe its cause first two went on two lines blahblahblah. Congratulations that was a huge job very well done you must be pleased :)

coalrange1 - 2009-08-07 21:54:00

or... copy & paste then just take the - out hehe thats easier.... Holly I am so impressed well done :)

Thanks for bumping Liz I have been in my stash cupboard - no not for 4 days hehe. I have folded the fabric like they have it in fabric shops on card, I have it on books (lovely hard cover big ones) anyway the fabric goes on them so well, takes up less space than just folded and can be stored upright or stacked.Looks so much nicer....ok I admit it I dont have a life but Im happy ok lol ;)

You definitely can have too much material and things - I promised my sister that I would clean out all her craft stash - she is now too unwell to tell me much about it all and I am feeling very sad and overwhelmed- I know she collected bits and pieces from all over the world and I am finding little bags of all sorts of beautiful things. I find myself putting it aside - started off listing some things but my pile of "what shall i do with that" is getting higher and higher

Liz The dolls quilt... I have a little 10" square scrappy quilt that my Gran made for my Mums dolls, 70 years ago...just be aware that what you make, even though it seems like just a dolls quilt can become a very much treasured item for future generations. Oh no pressure tho hehe ;)

Hello Gerry 64 I see what you mean by you can have too much, I have done it myself with collections...tis way too easy. to be honest why the bloody hell would you want too?? the only thing i'd possibly use it for it quilts, but with it being polyester with a "satin" finish... why why why

Gerry 64 If you can sew a little you could make a memory quilt of all your sisters precious things, it would look amazing. It could have all the buttons on it all the little pieces of lace, bits of materials etc etc I made a quilt of my Dads fav old flannelette shirts just 5" squares sewn together with buttons on every corner of the squares (kids sewed them on) but its so special a real keepsake memory. Anyway just a thought.
Hi Liz and Holly hope your both having a great day, I havent been to fabric shop for about 10 days now arghhhh oh I did buy on tm tho hehe

Gerry, don't be to quick in selling your sisters craft stash. I have shirts from my now late bro, and it's going to be a memory quilt, it's so precious, maybe there are other family members who would only be to pleased to be gifted some of those supplies.

Thank you all for you good ideas I am not touching anything in what she called her "war chest" - she called it her war chest because she was always at war with it trying to keep the doors closed as she tried to stuff more goodies in it - I promised her that I would take care of all her things - she wanted them to be used as her husband I am sure would not be at all sympathetic to what he calls her piles of junk -there are many many bags not opened - I listed a piece of what she had still in a bag with a lovely yeddy bear pattern -the label says mohair but someone has queried if it is mohair - the receipt for $75 dated 8 years ago is still in the bag for a piece of mohair so I dont know -but one of my neices is going to make button "pictures" for all the neices and nephews so that will be great - you lot have given me a real buzz that people take the trouble to care

Hello all :) For all you lovely quilting ladies have you seen the site etsy.com scroll down to quilts and click, it has over 700 pages of quilts, click on a quilt and tells you what its made of etc. Jules97 found this great site, she is currently in Ause doing the rounds of quilt shops, being very good and not buying much but getting heaps of ideas. Have great day everyone :)
