I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

It's so unfair! Work takes away so much knitting time lol. My projects (3 on the go as is usual for me), are not being completed fast enough - I have so many 'nexts' to do. *sigh*

nzmu - you need a job like I used to have, which was really only a part-time position, but the boss insisted he needed me there full-time, so when I didn't have any work to do (which was a lot of the time at certain times of the year) I used to sit and knit, or do my cross-stitch. He never complained. I would have rather had the time off work unpaid but that wasn't an option.

I must have a closer look at Deramores, because I did have a quick squizz and didn't really think there were any fantastic bargains to be had, and thought at the time I'd rather get my machine washable merino from Utiku.

I'm crocheting some granny squares at the moment, just to use up some of my scraps. One of my new year's resolutions was that I won't buy any more yarn until I've used up my stash (well the bulk of it anyway) - as if !!!

I have 3 babies to knit for (all arrive in April) - lucky I still have a bit of time up my sleeve. Am putting the first coat of paint on my craft room walls today (was going to wait and set it up as it is but think it will be easier to do it now).

for a baby shower gift. Just had to pop into the Knitworld sale yesterday as I didn't have the right colours in my stash (so sad). Happy knitting/crocheting/yarning everyone ;)

I'm still working my way through my mother's wool stash (handed over last year) but that also included my aunty's stash , so there's plenty of it.
Trouble is, they are mostly garment wools in nice muted colours, whereas for toys and tea cosies which I enjoy doing, you need clear, bright, pretty colours.

So I might just have to buy some.

Apart from Deramore's, which are your favourite wool websites?

I've already broken one of my NYRs which was to only drink alcohol at the weekends in an attempt to shed a couple of kilos. I confess to having a beer yesterday after I'd spent half the afternoon waterblasting the driveway - so that one didn't last long - mind you, one can doesn't really count, does it???

The Wool Company (Utiku wools, Taihape), their merino is lovely, available in 2, 3 or 4 ply and some lovely colours. The possum mix is gorgeous too.

I guess I am not the only one who has said that they weren't going to buy anymore wool until their stash is down - I brought two lots after christmas, one more since being home from holiday and have got some more on order from deramores and a friend is picking me some baby merino up from utiku over the holidays - I guess my great neices and nephews (including the one that is due in June) are going to be kept super warm this winter with their hand knitted woolies. Also can't wait to check out mervs pattern stash when she unpacks them all !

ha ha campbellmum, hope you are very patient! I have no idea which of the numerous boxes they are in. Might have to rope you in once we've moved to help empty the boxes till we find them.

oh boy - I have never thought of myself as a wool-aholic... until now lol.
My only NYR is - to knit more... if that's even possible.

Other online stores, I have purchased from herrshners.com, royal yarns, artofyarn, pavi yarns and yarn queen. I think Deramores has a lot going for it both pricewise and the site is just so inviting looking!

kuaka - I definitely envy you that job!!!

nzmu - 2013-01-10 17:29:00
116

Well I have taken a very long perusal of all the wools and patterns Im after. I have a list. Now I have to sit and work out how to get the most for my money lol..

I agree nzmu the website is lovely to look at. I like the close up view. Its easy to navigate around. I like that it has other options when you look for a certain type.

I have 4 books on my list thus far, cos I want to get some wool too. I find trying to get nice wheat or oatmeal type colours and light greys hard to get in the cheaper acrylic brands in NZ. So I have several options written down.

popeye333 - 2013-01-10 17:50:00
117

nzmu - I don't work there any more, that was many many moons ago when I lived in Hamilton. My immediate boss needed me to be full-time to justify his own existence. Everyone else in the entire (very large) outfit knew I didn't need to be there full-time. Boy it was really boring at times, and frustrating because I "had" to be there even when there was nothing to do for weeks on end (like during the holidays in the academic year)

kuaka - 2013-01-10 17:53:00
118

Hmmmmm....have revised the "wool-aholic" title to ....
"A Collecter of Fine Wools"....maybe!
Don't like Beer Kuaka....prefer top shelf for a tipple....so will never
make an alcoholic...wouldn't be able to afford it!
But it does leave more money for wool and yarn doesn't it?

ixcelm8 - I'm not much of a beer drinker either, the breweries would go broke if they relied on me supping their stuff - but on a stinking hot day a nice cold lager does quench the thirst, whereas a neat brandy wouldn't.

lol True Kuaka :-)
Thats why I go for a nice cool Home made Lemonade or a Lemon and Paeroa instead :-)

I went off Lemon and Paeroa big time after hubby (who grew up in Paeroa) told me that in the old days the water for the L&P was taken from a well very close to the place where they used to empty all the night carts!

Will place my order on monday.

I like that they do Lemon and Paeroa in the sugar free now... Yummmm

Hello, I am Armin and I am a fibre artist, ie a spinner and knitter.
I have just read this entire thread while knitting the boring bit of a sock heel.
I have been educated by you about the Deramores Shop, hmmm I want to look, I am so tempted.
Nzmu was it you who wanted to learn how to knit socks? I recently got taught by my friend Emily, at the Knit World craft group In Christchurch. Come along anyone. Tuesday and Thursday 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.
I knit because I'm hyper and can't sit and do nothing. I used to sell my craft at a wee Co-op shop in Cashel St but it got munted so Now I'm selling some on Trade Me. Does the place I'm not going to look at sell sock wool? Yummy, delicious, having a wee fit thinking about sniffing, squishing, face rubbing and feeling a scrummy new ball of purple blend sock wool. Hmmm, wonder if they have any. Bum, who is the guilty one? Fire at West Melton, scarey. Just going to pay the massive Christmas credit card bill. Blame the husband on that one. Bye.

hi armin, yes I have started socks, learning as I go with video tutorials from 'very pink'. I have 3 things on the go as usual and socks are last in line. I can't say that I am totally engrossed with knitting them, but I don't mind. I have done a top-down pattern with magic loop and have got to the foot part, which seems slow (thank heavens I have small feet lol).
Yippee it's the weekend and I can probably finish the other two items and start two more!

I have a fluresent (squse spellink?) wool to knit some up this winter lol

Yes Armin, the place you are not going to look at does sell sock wool - lol.

I remember that place in Cashel Street and I particularly remember the knitting, being a knitter myself. It was a lovely wee shop.

Soo only blew the budget by $1-82.. 26 items for $111.82.. Im very pleased with that.

Gonna be fun when it arrives. Ill have to juggle the wool drawers again lol...

That Aran armchair looked like it would be fabulous to snuggle into.

I don't do the giant stuff, though I own some giant needles so maybe it's in my future.

I have however tried the opposite extreme, knitting a square with sewing cotton on darning needles, just to see what would happen. Cramp in your hands is what happens.
