crafts is my pasion

Not the only ones I often thought I would like to have a shop. When you have the energy to do it the kids are growing up, taking all your money and time!!! It makes me wonder about young ones nowadays, they don't seem to have the time or patience to do crafts, in fact many of them can't iron, must be the newage men in their lives - never had one of those - LOL

New agemen I have 3 sons and they all do the household chores. The eldest lives alone and never irons. He wont buy anything he has to iron.!!!! All of them were taught by their late father to knit on 4inch nails. It was a long time ago but they all knitted scarves. They remember that and laugh about it but not one of them has knitted since. My girls both knit but my daughter inlaws dont go there as they put it. When they want something altered they put it into a drycleaners to get altered. My grandson asked his Mum if she could do "that hand sew stuff" on his ripped jersey. We had a good laugh about that. Basic skills seem to be lacking in the younger generation. Sad really.

Aged Care is based in all centres I think. Check them out for local activities you can volunteer with.

I only have one daughter and two sons, I have tried passing my craft skills onto my daughter, but sadly, she starts with a hiss and a roar, then that's it! my younger son, shows craft work, in his ability with 'construction' (I knew it as woodwork at school), he thoroughly enjoys working with wood.

Wow Zoe & everyone else we've passed the hundred mark in messages posted. Thanks for starting this one, Zoe. Sometimes you join a thread and it feels like everyone knows each other already but this one is great.

There are a lot of nasty threads on MB lately and this one is so nice, like normal people talking to oneanother. Would like to hear from Zoe again. We can all hope at least she can see how her thread has grown with caring people.

Sons I never had a daughter but two lovely sons who are great adults now. Unfortunately they live overseas, one married, and no grandchildren. Give me a grandaughter and I will have a craft in her hand at 1 day old, also her christening pressie will probably be a sewing machine - LOL

Bid sat at $32 all day and I had an autobid of $50 then 2 mins to closing another bid came in of $50 I LOCKED IN ANOTHER AUTOBID AND EXTRA DIED ON ME. MISSED IT BY $1 Was I peeved. Told my daughter she had to bid herself in future. Ha ha. Still cannot email out. My son is coming this weekend to fix it thank heavens. We tried everything extra said but no go. At lest I won my buttons bll. Yea!!! We have two Kereru feeding in the palm trees near the deck. They are very pretty and look a lot better than the ones I have cut out of tile for my mosaics. I need a grinder, no I DONT NEED A GRINDER I want a grinder. They are quite expensive so it will be awhile before I get one--- Hey Zoe how are you girl?

Welcome smartgirl Up at Orewa for the day helping my daughter in the garden. Nice windy day for washing. Been to the op shops for buttons. Got some nice ones too!!!!

Windy day Lovely day for washing except I couldn't do any and I can't get into the laundry for it. Septic tank decided to do a silly and had to wait two days for it to be fixed, all done now, dishwasher and washing machine going flat out. Made a dog coat today for a lady who is obviously a mad fan of the All Blacks, so her staffi will have its silver fern coat on when they are all watching the matches!!! Don't you love it.

Grinder What do you use a grinder for? Is it for cutting or just sanding down the edges?

westydogs - 2007-09-04 17:55:00

Very cold ... & wet here today. Yuck, spring was fleeting at best! Would have been a great day to stay at home & knit but instead had a day from hell at work. One family with a marriage at risk, another with a 13 week old with possible brain damage! Thank goodness for crafts to come home to, to block out the tragedies of the real world. K1 P1 K1 P1 .....very therapeutic and I'll be ready for what tomorrow brings (I hope).

Grizzly Still do voluntary work for a Women,s organisation so know what you mean. When I worked fulltime also did voluntary hours sometimes worked until midnight trying to get funding for projects to help women. When you had 8 clients the next day to counsell it was pretty wearing.

makerealbany - 2007-09-05 05:25:00
123

Grizzly It is hard work but it can also be so rewarding when things fall into place and you see the growth of your clients. The average person has no idea what really happens in certain societal sectors of our community.

Woolshed You encourage that boy of yours with his construction. Two of my sons could not even put a bookshelf together( their theory is that they would rather pay someone else to do it) but the other one can fix or build anything. He is the one that fixes things for me. ha ha

makerealbany - 2007-09-05 05:35:00
125

makerealbany ... oh I am! Encouraging him that is. He has just completed a HUGE dog kennel at school. It's around at a friends at the moment until Mr wooly can get the trailer to bring it home. J has done an awesome job on it. My dad would of been very proud of him! Proud ol' ma that I am, will have to take pics to scrapbook it!! THEN! he tells me, that he is going to sell it on TM! lol!

Hi Jord Have been tucked inside today with the wet weather. I potter at making dog coats and sell them on TM. Sit in front of the tele sewing, have my machines on a trolley, with the fire on and my six dogs all cuddled up. In the summer I grow tomato plants and sell the tomatoes at the gate. As you can guess I live in a rural area. Plants as well is a craft so I divide myself between winter and summer. Lots of fun.

Grinder I bought a grinder a few years ago, small, anticipating doing different things. I think I got it from Dick Smiths for under $50 and it had all different attachments, perhaps I should put it on TM as has never been used - LOL

Finished the crocheted rug For my grandaughter and was reminded my youngest grandson is 4 next week so have to make something for his birthday. I usually do all the baking because he will have a family party as usual and my grandkids love cupcakes with coloured icing sprinkled with smarties, jellybabies etc. Lamintons both choc and rasp. Saus rolls etc.

makerealbany - 2007-09-05 23:48:00
132

All those calories I make all the birthday cakes and they always want chocolate. I would love to make a different one but they choose and it is always choc. The girls make the salads and cook chicken wings, dimmsims, etc and the boys take care of the barbeque. It is a real fun family day and then we all play rugby or soccer with the dogs in tow of course. We play trivial pursuit for the older kids and are they clever? The little ones paint faces ours included ha ha. I just loooooovvvvveeee these days with all the family around.

Tapestry Hi Zoe - my mum did tapestry for many years but it is something I haven't got into, seem to swing more towards sewing. Apparently I had a great aunt, yes one of those years ago who used to wear the fox fur round her neck, I was fascinated as a little girl, and she was a qualified seamstress. I seem to take after her. I am also good at DIY, my husband is hopeless!!! I am now showing my age. How's the health Zoe??

Hi Zoe that's how the Purple Patch here in Christchurch got started over 30 years ago. I have been a member for over 15 years and still love having an outlet for my craft other than TM.

grizzly4 - 2007-09-07 18:48:00
139

Hi grizzly Love the Purple Patch stores. My daughter goes in and buys things for my 3rd grandaughter due in Dec and then comeshome and says to me" I saw this or can you make those?" Etc. I still look in all sorts of places for ideas to make things. You could be passing someone or something catchs your imagination and away you go. Where do you all get your ideas from? for creating that is ha ha

Sounds exciting, Zoe and what a lovely idea as a gift.
Makerealbany, I think your daughter must shop in the Pumpkin Patch kids clothing stores not the Purple Patch. The Purple Patch is just a little retail outlet for a Christchurch based craft co-op. By chance I think there is another of the same name in Tauranga but we are not connected. Pumpkin Patch has some beautiful clothes!

grizzly4 - 2007-09-08 09:39:00
142

Hi grizzly Yes she does shop in Pumkin Patch but we go to Hamilton every fortnight and they have a Purple patch all sorts of handkniting etc.
Today we were looking for lino and carpet and ended up buying a lovely cot, a baby carseat, a portable 3 in one cot and heaps of baby clothes from all the shops that were having winter clearouts. We went into 1 Carpet shop!!!!. It is dangerous when women go shopping together.ha ha. Anyway we had a nice lunch.

The water tanks are full and I am sick of the mud.Ha ha If it were summer and the tanks were empty I would most likely still bleat on.
