1400 ACS catalogue lists this stamp at $120. You may want to list at half this to see if you get any takers. A good high res photo of both sides of the stamp would be excellent also.

What a great thread. Wonder if any of you can tell me if there is any value in nz predecimals used blocks of stamps - off paper unhinged? I also have some Land & Deeds stamps - one lot in a block of 4 - never been hinged. Any info would be most appreciated.

skydancing Be careful as some Postmarks are worth a lot more than the stamps. It may pay to get some one to have a look at them for you eg Local Philatelic Society ,trusted stamp dealer /collector .Google and the Yellow pages are your friend.

Another stamp on a letter from NZ Post! Today I received another letter from NZ Post Collectibles with a harbour bridge stamp on it after getting a new Heitiki stamp on my last letter. At last they are listening to collectors, lets hope that this will continue. Well done NZ Post.

Thanks Yes. The efforts of many are appreciated. Big changes will happen with small steps. Please join me and thank or write and thank NZPO for using actual stamps on the mailouts. This was a big step that is also much appreciated.

Vending machines coil stamps. I have received and have read already the RPSNZ publication on the NZ Vending machine coils. A great publication. So much information, well presented. Great work by Stan Kundin, with editing by our own Brian Vincent. Excellent work.
Only 250 printed!!

Overseas Stamps I have heaps of Aussie and foreign stamps to sell that where my dads (Need to sell to keep our home) My mum took them to a wellington dealer a few years ago and he offered about $600 and said there where only a few that were worth the most. So mum thought that was not worth selling them for so little, as they where dads etc. But now I have to! so being in Hawkes bay, anyone know how I could find out what are the good ones? I have tried to do some on line looks, but very labour intenstive especaially when I dont know anything! Thanks for any help, Michelle

Petition to PO In May, 80 sample petitions were sent out by the Nelson Philatelic Society. They went to 40 clubs and 41 dealers - they were to be signed (with wording adjusted if desired) and sent to Ivor Masters, manager of the PO/Stamp Department.

The idea was to consolidate all our concerns and complaints and let the Collectibles Department know we would like to be heard.

There have been many subtle changes recently (i.e. real stamps on letters from the PO) and it would be a good time to write a letter yourself (in praise or disapproval) to Mr. Ivor Masters - especially now while their ears are open.

Mr. Masters will be coming to Nelson to speak to us in person on September 8th. He will be accompanied by other members of NZ Post and someone from the Philatelic Federation. If you are in the area you should come to our stamp club meeting and meet them.

From the Court Report "But the Crown also called evidence from two other online buyers dissatisfied with the goods that arrived, to show that Bedenknecht had a propensity to make false statements on internet sites when selling stamp collections."

Trader of Stamps in Court Not good when any seller of stamps is in court, especially for falsely representing items in collections. I am a seller of collections and don't think this bad publicity is good for the hobby in general.
I always state in my listings of collection, that all you see you get.
Not good to hear that he is trading under three names on Trade Me.

Ref..1427. From the Court Report There was negative feedback evidence from only 3 people some of which was very debatable. The trader had thousands of positive feedbacks but surprisingly none of these were called. I'd be a bit reticent about blaming a trader on such a small level of negative feedback especially as so much feedback can be subjective. I know the person concerned and would regard him as an honest and reliable person despite the conviction.

Recent courtcase. The reason this court case got media coverage was because it was the very first case heard that a majority decision was applied. Under the new law it is not necessary for all jurors to agree on guilt for a conviction to be established. under the old rules (up to the end of last month)all jurors had to agree. now only 10 out of 12 need agree. this was the first conviction made by only 10 jurors agreeing and hence the publicity the case got.

re 32. NEW alternative post company Croxley Mailstamps debuted week before last with three different 50 cent values, a $1 value and a $1.50 value. (Nobody told them that international Postage rates were going up). Two of the 50 cent values come from a boxed roll of 100 and the other comes from booklets of 10 50 cents stamps. All 5 stamps are self-adhesive and all feature similar scenes from a un-named west coast Auckland beach.

Court case. I'm going to withhold comment on the facts in the case as stamps are not my thing, though it seems like it would be reasonably clear-cut: either the items listed arrived or did not, and if consistently not then.... That leads me to a question about this new legal concept: How long has the debate about something other than consensus jury decisions been going on? The change in the law was the first I heard about it. It seems a troubling concept. If 10 or 11 out of 12 is ok, how about just 7 out of 12? It's still a majority.

Stamp fraud? From what I can Gather the member has been disabled. Two notable local stamp dealers were called as witneses for the Trial ,one for the prosecution and one for the defence. And from reading the news paper report one of the Jury was released because of illness so we dont know what his/her verdict was so you could take it as 10 guilty to 1 not guilty.
I stand to be corrected .

Have just found this thread with great relief as reading through has answered a lot of questions. I am back to collecting after a 50 year gap!! and see I have a lot to learn. I was inspired to restart by discovering a wooden box full of stamps belonging to my grandfather who would now be 142 years old! Do I soak them off the paper...I saw a mention that in some cases I shouldn't. Also, can one buy new non self adhesive stamps?

re #1444. It's just as well that I don't collect postmarks because I would have been disappointed with what arrived today. For a brand new datestamp it should have been clearer than this http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/74/98223574_full.jpg You can't tell if it is the first day. I'm not complaining because I don't collect postmarks but I hope your other customers have better luck.

1445 Hi grongy, good to hear that you are taking up collection again. It would be best not to soak any of your old stamps before doing some reseach. There may be some valuable postmarks and rare stamps can be worth even more on an envelope. You would be best to buy a stamp catalogue as a starting point. Yes, there are plenty of gummed stamps (as opposed to self adhesive). Have a look at N Z Post website. You can but stamps directly from them and the have quite a lot of other useful information too.
