morning ladies :) Gosh that's a cheap power bill Gerry. We decided last summer to get rid of our fans (got sick of stubbing toes on them lol and they took up space) and use our heat pump on cold. We thought what the heck, we pay for the pump to be working in t he winter, why not the summer. And it didn't cost us that much more anyway. So far, having the windows open has been enough.

I have a few things to do in town once MrK has finished feeding our friends menagerie but I have to find a reciept so I can return an O ring for the water pump. If it was only a couple of bucks I wouldn't worry but this one was reasonably priced. And the Furry One needs more epilespy meds.

The wind looks to have died down a bit so will put the hose on the garden. Second flush of roses are about to flower and the dahlias are going full swing.

My honey bee is nearly finished, just the wings to do. The body is a tad crooked but I don't care. I'm pleased I'm using the gold filament, I've had it for years stashed away and now can use it again. But it does give the bee a bit of pizzazz.

Wow that is a good powerbill.. wish ours was like that. But we decided years ago that using the dryer for the clothes worked out cheaper than seeing the dr about my stuffed shoulder, of which was aggrivated hanging out washing.

Im eagerly awaiting the courier today.. Cant wait for my mixer, I must check the tracking..

Happy New Year and good morning ladies, seems ages since I posted here. Finally have the house to myself for about 3 weeks. Phew! Much as I appreciate all the work a certain someone has done for me, it does get a bit wearying when he is constantly telling me I "need to do this, or need to do that"!!!

Before Christmas we went out to the boat and I had a complete melt down there. I was in tears, said I just want it gone, and will drastically reduce the price because I just can't do the maintenance nor can I afford the maintenance or the insurance. So he said he would do the maintenance and when I get an offer on the boat he will match it. Then we discovered that one of the hatches which we thought was okay, was actually almost falling apart, and was really beyond repair, so he has made a new one, done a good job of it, but the materials alone were almost $300 and he put hours and hours of work into it. A larger hatch we know needs replacing. It just goes on.

Anyway we were playing snooker the other night and he started talking about what he was going to do to the boat to improve it, and I took the opportunity of reminding him that until he's paid for it, it's still mine, and I want it gone. I'm over it. Had someone phone yesterday wanting to look at it, and he's gone to Auckland for 3 weeks and taken the keys with him. Grrr!

Christmas was very quiet, but I had a good New Years Eve. Been busy with the markets and have quite a few coming up in the next couple of months. I know I will be tired by the end of the season.

I need to go into town for a repeat prescription and check the mail. Wonder if I will be able to park anywhere?

I better get going, so have a fabulous day - I'm hoping for rain. I'm sick of watering the garden.

Popeye I use my drier but I am on my own and certainly have a lot less washing these days - anybody who uses under 8000 units a year it's a good deal
Looking forward to seeng the bee kiwimade - have you ever tried machine embroidery on that fabric that you wash away and it just leaves your embroidery - you can make beautiful wings and things like that - will see if I can find a photo of a fairy I made

hahaha flick, it's call 'catitude'! Phew kuaka, I'm not surprised you are over it all with the boat. Maybe you need to make him a spare set of keys so it won't matter if he has them with him.

Housework almost done, one more load of washing to do. There is only two of us, how on earth do we get so much washing? lol. Mind you today I stripped the bed and am washing the woolrest. Want to make the most of the sunny, windy weather.

Better move the hose onto the next spot in the garden, am with you on the watering kuaka! But at least having our own bore means no restrictions.

Time to get into town, we have heaps of tourists too so finding a park is going to be fun... not.

Id be the same Kuaka... I couldnt handle visitors for much longer than a week.
Even when Mum started coming to stay for short times I was glad when we took her home. It took and adjustment for all of us when she moved in.

The first thing I will do if MrP goes before me is clear the damned garage... He moans about not having any spare money when he has hundreds if dollars in fishing gear sterring him in the face for a start.

Im not watering the garden, it all seems to be growing ok... We have self sown runner beans which are flowering so thats a bonus lol.

Ive been busy this morning too and finally can sit and play for a bit.. will knit later.

morning ladies :) Crazy isn't it, kuaka. The seasons seem to be all out of whack, I've noticed things flowering or growing when they should be dormant.

Lawns to mow this morning so I'll finish this coffee and head up the road for some more petrol. I want to get it done before the heat kicks in.

One and a half wings to stitch, the bee is much smaller to stitch than the butterfly but this gold filament thread is a PITA to use so can only use small amounts at a time.

Morning everyone

Umm the magnolias are all finished here.. Its crazy eh lol... Im only seeing very few raspberries but I found more young ones this morning so I dont mind the trade off.. I think it must be at least 10 years since we planted the first one, but theres heaps out there now. Ill have to try and get hold of some more timber to block them from the lawnmowers.

No knitting yesterday, I had a bad day. realised my hand was dipping into the M&M bucket more than it should be, cos I had crashed with pain. So the wise words of my first cardiologist came back.. If yoou need pain killers take them... So I did and I came right... And I stopped eating too .

I still havent crashed with the hot weather so thats a bonus... mrP is suffering, I just dont feel so hot this summer... I guess the weightloss might be helping that, but Im not even depressed when I see the sun in the mornings either. YAYAY.

I want to spring clean the toilet today.. Ill take the extension off and giving the whole room a good going over.. It wont be east but thats my goal for the day.

And I want to get the cave sorted out too, Im in the mood for sewing , so Ive told all my girls Ill make them veges bags for the supermarket.. Since we cannot take the plastics to be recycled, we really need to use better bags. I made two before christmas and I love using them.

That's great news about the heat popeye, I know you used to dread summer. My Breville mixer is really heavy and solid but I love it.

Lawns are mowed and MrK is making meat patties for homemade burgers for dinner. Since he retired he has taken over my kitchen, was hard to let it go too!

Time for a cuppa I think then I need to tie up the dahlias and a climbing rose. My 'Gertrude Jekyl' has gone nuts and is over the six foot fence. Now to encourage 'her' to fill in the frame we have made of recycled concrete reinforcing wire. Only planted 'her' this season too.

And thank you for the kind comments. We are a good bunch in here and in some way or another 2018 was a toough year for most of us..
This daily blogging be it crafting, gardening or cooking has kept me going at times when it was tough thats for sure.

I got the toilet done today. Sooo proud of myself. The tummy behaved and the back was narly at the end but its done.

Some cookbooks I brought off facebook arrived at lunchtime so that was my enforced relaxing this afternoon.
One of the recipes that grabbed me was the old fashioned Sponge pudding with the golden syrup or fruit at the bottom/top.. but this one was baked. I will try it in the winter.

Tomorrow Im hitting the kitchen, need to get the other mixer out and see if I can find an easy spot to put the new mixer or if I can make room for it on the already crowded bench lol.

The breeze has started so Im still not suffering yet.. Although I was very hot doing the toilet but even tho the sun is full on in the lounge Im not like I normally was.. YAYAY

Morning everyone...
Looks like the rain might be coming. Its warm but not uncomfortable

Ohh Im creaky lol.. But its a happy creaky... I will still get in the kitchen and sort that out. Id really like to have the mixer on the bench somewhere.. I plan to make a cover for it too.. Cant be too hard being that its a rectangle, so long as I make it wide enough for the bowl.

Have to pop up the road first and get a couple of things I forgot on Shopping day. Im now using our new World as a dairy. Just buying what Ive forgotten or urgently need.

I hope to knit later, Ive had a couple of days off.

I never thought I could be soo happy walking into a lovely clean toilet. lol.. Things had been left for soo long ..

I've started knitting blankets on 15mm needles, very different from baby knitting lol but enjoyable. we have another grandson due in 3 weeks so very exciting and that will be another birth il be at.we have 2 granddaughters and 3 grandson's when the next one arrives. we have 8 children so i guess we will have lots of grandchildren ( i hope we do) so far its just the 2 eldest kids that have given us the grandchildren. i best cook some tea now we have just been pottering today so tea wasnt high on my list lol.

Morning everyone
The clouds look like they contain rain today.

I cant believe its 20 years today since my Big brother died in a boating accident.. Time goes soo fast.

Wow 10ofus, you will have a real team of grandies by the sounds of it. I have some of that chenille wool that Ill knit into a blanket at some stage, I managed to get big plastic needles from an oppy just before christmas $2 a pair instead of $15 or so that Spotlight had them for.

I have the rubbish bins to wash and then Ill dig the chilly binn out and clean that..
Then I plan to sit and knit, I havent done any all weekend. I will cut some fabric up for vege bags too, then Ill get into the cave later this week and sort that so I can sew.
The bones need a rest so knitting will be the bonus lol

My first attempt at my own design, a tad wobbly but I love the colours. I decided against the black I used for the butterfly as I didn't want it to look like a wasp. So I used some varigated hand dyed thread I bought at the quilt fair in October and some filament gold I had stashed away from a cross stitch I did over 15 years ago. Knew I kept it for a reason lol.

As odd as it sounds, my brother died exactly where he would have wanted. When he was young he joined the navy and loved being on the water.
he died on the water, with a mate who were both killed when their boat was swamped.. Not killed by the sea but they were in the cabin and hit their heads when the boat rolled over. They checked both motors before they went out but when they tried to come home neither worked. so it was meant to be we reckon.

Have had visitors all morning so I havent done a thing really lol..

Oneday I might get back to blankets but not yet lol

morning ladies :) Another hot day on the cards so I'm doing all outside stuff now before I get too hot. Yesterday we caved in and switched the heat pump onto cold and it made a huge difference to the whole house. I took our fans down to the op shop last year, they took up too much space and storage is limited here. The heat pump is fast and efficient and we are all much more comfortable. The Furry One plonks himself under the ceiling fan in the bedroom lol so he has all the cool places sussed out.

Crafting this afternoon I think, I found some linen I can stitch and now to think what I can do with it.

I was actually a bit too hot last night, just after id eaten tea, but the fan cooled me down.. Still nothing like it used to be tho.

Woke up with a nasty headache this morning, so Im going to just potter. I might just put a couple of boxes away in the cave and hopefully get closer to sewing. Otherwise I need to knit. Ive had a few days off so need to get back to it.

They are easy to use and i don't get any pain in my hands I've had both wrists operated on for the carpal tunnel syndrome a few years ago so I've never had any problems with them since. I actually switched to the circular needles today for the blanket, they are much easier to use than the straight ones. i cast on 72 sts and used 4 strands of yarn all different plys and colours and I'm just knitting it in garter stitch. well i guess i best get off to bed now, knitting makes me lose track of time.

morning ladies :) Another hot day today, I have all the windows open already. MrK is going to do an oil change on the car today, so much cheaper to do it ourselves.

Your mum sounds an absolute hoot, Gerry. Good on her for being so independent.

Good idea about the circular needles 10ofus, it does take the strain off the wrists. And a good way to use up your stash of wool too, no one else will have a blanket like it!

I'm not sure what the day will bring today but one thing I know, the hose will be on the garden again. The new compost should hold moisture but with the huge winds we've been having, it doesn't take much to dry everything out. We are freezing a bucket of beans every two or three days now, last year we would have been lucky to have one bucket of beans for the whole season! And the cucumbers have gone a tad nuts lol but that's ok, we will have a few jars of bread and butter pickle in the pantry by the end of summer.

I am picking away at this piece of linen, it's not very even and quite bumpy so am experimenting with different types of stitches (good practice lol) to see what can and can't work.

Ive never tried circular needles, I must do it oneday. And I know someone local wh will teach me new things, but Ive put it off alot lol.

Its going to be a stinker today I think, although we do have a gentle breeze, that we didnt have an hour ago.

I have quite a few things to do up the road this morning, we are back into summer mode tho, MrP will stay at home and keep the windows etc open.

finally did a bit of knitting last night.. But I also cut out the bags for the girls so Ill start sewing them, maybe later when the umpteenth repeats of High Chaperall and Bonanza are on... I miss the Waltons, so Ill hide in the cave for an hour.. Funny enough tho, I dont like Michael Landon as Little joe, I prefer him as Pa Ingalls lol.

Wow yesterday was rediculously hot.. Got to 42 outside and 29.2 in our lounge at about 4pm.. I hated the heat but my head is still ok. Missy definitely didnt like the heat.

It was too hot to knit tho, so that is sitting unloved lol.

Did several things up the road, more to do today and then a couple more things tomorrow.

Happy New Year to you all. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year.Just been sorting things out the last few days and hospital appointments.

I arrived back on Monday after a great break staying with family and friends. Hamilton was my first stop over. I hit the pavement outside The Base on Sunday midday before Christmas. Stitchies and one very black eye.
After Christmas went over to Morrinsville to see my sister in law and families. Following on to Rotorua for New Year .Enjoy my time in Rotorua.It was a very relaxing time .Next time I will catch up with Kiwimade when I go up to Morrinsville later in the year.
Yes, it was great just to get away and set some goals for the first few months.
Hope everyone is well and keeping cool.
I packed some wool and needles and did not did taken them out of the case. Walked miles,watched some good and not so good DVD's.

Holy moly popeye, that was hot. It's been hot today but now clouding over and cooling a bit.

Weed spraying is done, got up early before the wind started and did it and I have replanted three lavender plants into the garden that had outgrown their pots. We have a thrush chatting away like mad, he does it every day :) His buddy across the road must have gone as there has been no reply for days.

I'm having a tutu with this piece of linen just making things up as I go along. I don't knit in the summer, too hot and I hate how the wool/yarn won't slide across the needles easily.

Well that was an Interesting outing.

The car decided to overheat on the way to the butchers and fruit shop.. MrP getting angry, like it was my fault.
Butcher text just as we got there to say there wasnt any pork sausages.. but got the beef and some veges. And the butcher checked the oil and water which was fine..
Got a little hot between Papakura and Pukekohe, but not as bad as the first leg.
Did the groceries and Im still blown away at the prices lol..

Car stayed fine tempwise on the way home..
I have news for MrP if he thinks Im ringing the garage, he can... lol.

Joined the christmas club too, something I havent done in the last few years.

Im not doing anything this afternoon lol. Temp is currently 27.6 inside and 31.2 outside, so its going to get worse in an hour or so.

Sunflowers soo pleased you had an relaxing tripand fun catching up with everyone. Sorry you had a fall tho, thats not good to the body.

Afternoon ladies, I had a good day at the market yesterday, so much so that I had planned to spend all morning sewing, but while I was on my first cup of tea a friend to say that the mother of another friend had passed away and could I go because she didn't know how to handle the friend who was shedding bucket loads of tears. So quick shower and off I went. So we spent some time consoling our friend, and then we went to the rest home and said goodbye, then to Kaikohe to the funeral director to help her pick out a casket, and then came home again. I feel like a piece of chewed string.

Going to have a nice cold drink, do the dishes and then probably sew this afternoon as the sewing room is the coolest place in the house at the moment.

Try not to melt!

Jimmy always jokingly said He was here for Money not friends, and everyone knew, so we welcomed everyone into the church with a hug but told them it would cost $5 to get out lol... It took the edge off things.

Good morning all - another hot one here today - I had a problem with my car overheating Popeye and it was a fuse that stopped the cooling whatever switching on - I got a hell of a fright when this picture appeared on the screen thing of fire !
Well what a drama we have with Mum - the powers that be - we haven't found the actual person everybody is running for cover and the rest home management decided when she first broke her leg she would need to be in the resthome hospital wing and so have moved somebody else into her room - feel so sorry for her as everybody kept saying to her if you get cracking and do everything they tell you to do you will be out if rehab in no time - she did and often she was in real pain but everything has turned to custard - it's a pity the home didn't contact us - she will just have to wait until they get a vacancy out in the rest home proper - every other resthome is bulging at the seams so we are stuck

afternoon ladies :) I went out to the garden at 7.00am and it was a beautiful, clear, crisp morning. By 7.30ish it was foggy and humid! Got done what I wanted, lots of weeding done and some plants that had outgrown their spots, moved.

Jeepers that's rude to assume she wouldn't be back, Gerry. I hope it gets sorted quickly. Just shows it's the mighty $$$$ at work.

Popeye, we just order a '$60 ham' from our butcher each Christmas and he gets us one to match the price.

Time to get cracking, lunch is over and I want to make a ginger crunch slice.

Morning everyone
We dont normally bother with Ham at christmas, or if we do we just buy some sliced from the deli. Last year I got a $50 roll for $23 around now. and so was pleased to get this fat end of the leg. Thats MrPs job for today.. Im funny I dont like thick ham or bacon so I slice some up for me, where he slices it thick so he eats what he cuts lol.

Housework for me today. washing, floors and dishes.. We have a good breeze at the front of the house so all the windows are open wide and its pleasant at the mo.

I will say tho Im starting to struggle, when i opened the curtains this morning I had a fraction of dread..

So Ill either knit or play with my cookbooks as something to make me perk up a little.

I got a small knitted blanket from the freebie bin at one of the oppies yesterday. I undid it last night and it was 165 grms.. Just acrylic but such a pretty green.
I enjoy undoing things as much as I enjoy untangling chains, balls of wool etc.. I dont give in.

I dont know why they didnt undo it themselves, they have a couple of ladies who do that for them so they can sell the wool.

morning ladies :) Up bright and early this morning to finish the weeding and mow the lawn. Was all done by 8.00am... gotta love being rural! Housework is almost done, just vacuuming and wash floor to do. I've been washing our bedding over the last couple of 'sheet changes' and have one blanket on the line and another in the wash. Seeing as the Furry One sleeps on our bed, I like to do this regularly. And I must admit it was nice to sleep on a fluffed up woolrest :)

It's going to be hot today so it's a good day for crafting inside.

Yay Love it when you get everything done that you plan to do. And a couple of extras lol.
Foors washing and dishes done. Made rissoles for MrPs dinner and did the veges. So I dont have to be out there in the hottest part of the day.

So now I can play with my books or knit maybe..

morning ladies :) A quiet day for us I think today. I have some large pottery plant pots I need to scrub, they have moss growing on them, so I'll clean them up so I can use them again. It rained last night so I won't need to water the garden. I spotted the agricultural firm across the road had it's irrigation going yesterday - huge 'canon' like things shooting water across the paddock.

The beaches should be starting to quieten down now so I think maybe we'll go to the beach for a bit.

Well what a productive night I had - not sure if I have mentioned it before I sleep walk - last night I dreamed that I unpicked a crochet bag I was working on until quite late last night as I wasn't happy with the shape - I was just starting the handles when I went to bed in reality -Yep you guessed it I have just got up and my bag is now a ball of wool again!

Good Morning Ladies,Off shortly to do some weeding while it cool and the ground is not so hard. After that I need to do some jobs inside.
Need to let a couple of bug bombs off inside.No crafting at present.

Hope your mother is able to move back to the Resthome wing. Yes its all about money... Gerry. We noticed that when Mike was in PA. Had to pay for a staff member to go into town to pick up some meds for Mike.City Medical send me a account for Meds and he was not given them as he had passed on.

Just maybe some crafting sometime during the day,

Morning everyone
I think its going to be a superhot day... trying not to think about it.

Going to take MrP up to the recycle centre today for a wander around.

I have after several years of "Thinking" about it decided to sell my book collection. Kids Annuals and the classics from Dean And Sons... and childrens Press books.
Im going to get a few crates to move them into, but isntead of double handling ill take photos and note comments about them as I pack them away. So it will be a huge job, I have 50-60 Annuals. and probably several hundred of the smaller books.
But at this stage Ill hang onto the Enid Blyton... The oldest of all the books is 1940 its a girls book, but Ill probably hang on to that one just cos of its age. Funny enough I found one book here a few years ago that belonged to a school friend when she was young, Ill give that one to her tho.. Its a Mr Biggles from Memory.

Im not sure what my plans are, it will depend on the temp

morning ladies :) omggg Gerry lol, I'm sorry, but I have to laugh! It was obviously playing on your mind for you to do that.

It's raining here today, rained heavily yesterday too. The rain and drop in temperature is very welcome though.

I have some beetroot relish to make today, the beetroot is finally big enough to pick. I found my grandmother's recipe in her book the other day so will try that one.

I might get the sewing machine out today too. I have a few pieces of emboidery linen that need overlocking and a few other bits and pieces to do. Might as well get it all done while the machine is out. I must admit, I do miss the extra room we had when in town as I could just sit at my machine whenever I wanted without fuss.

Morning Everyone

Ohh what a wonderful day.. I had been going down hil and Id said to MrP last night that it wasnt going to be mlong before I crash fully.. And yay the rain actually woke me up.. Its lovely, no sun glarinf at me, the temp has dropped a little and its just wonderful.

Ohh Gerry I missed your post yesterday... OMG that would have been very disheartening to find. Do you read at night before you sleep? I find it switches my brain off from the days events. Maybe it would work for you.

I too plan to sew Kiwimade, and I know what you mean about being able to have your machines out etc. We have lived in a few places that I could have a sewing / craft room. Andits lovely not to have to drag the machine out to the kitchen table etc, especially now with two machines.. I managed to get more fabric for bags so now I will do one persons at a time and give them a selection of sizes for their veges.

The resident pillock across the road chose to do a couple of rounds of burnouts about 4-30 last night.. The neighboours all rang the cops, some even confronted him and it was such a pleasure to watch him lose his car. he even videoed it going on the truck lol.. I think if hes stupid enough to do it again, it will be instant loss of his car.

morning ladies :) Best laid plans of men and mice lol, didn't get any of what I planned to do yesterday, done. But I did some hardanger on this cloth I am stitching for the cabinet in the bedroom. It's not the best fabric but will do the job and I'll cut away most of the fabric anyway.

It bucketed down with rain and we had westerlies so I ended up at one stage, outside in the wind and rain, cutting my top heavy standard roses as they were waving about like a sail in the wind. I only planted them this season so they are quite vulnerable to the westerlies. They are double staked but sooo top heavy with flowers they were bending over.

Not sure what today will bring, I know I have booties to knit as I have a baby shower invite. Will have a rummage and see what wool I can use.
