Don't ask me for tips for the horses I am hopeless. My Dad used to say" Pick a horse for me girl" and they never won. I just looked at the names. First hubby used to take us to Randwick and they had bookies there. We always had a family day out and took a picnic lunch. Kids loved it. Just watching all the bookies screaming ang waving their arms around. It was like being at a circus. Ha ha. Enjoy your break grizzly.

It sounds really exciting opening all the boxes after more than 2 years! Like an early xmas, wish I was there to help.ACC said 'yes' yesterday and surgery is scheduled for next WEdnesday. We will have to organise a farewell ceremony for his knee. Bit sad really.

1353

I am glad ACC said yes Your poor hubby will be really and truly sick of the hospital. You will most likely lose weight running backwards and forwards to the hospital grizzly even though your great cook won't be at home. Bet he complains about the awful hospital mush!!!

Had a good time at the A&P show yesterday and hubby & I went out for dinner, too. However had to fit in yet another doctor's appointment 'cos I woke up with another infection which has affected one eye really badly. Yet again they don't know what's causing all this too happen!

We must have had busy weekends! How are you all? Countdown for hubby's surgery tomorrow. And of course that was when my appointment for tests at another hospital across town was set for too. No question I put them off, eh? It has been lovely weather down here, great BBQ days with the grandchildren. Working on dolls clothes for the shop at present.

My turn to chat to myself.... I hope you guys are enjoying whatever you are up to.

Sorry grizzly. Makereal and I had coffee yesterday and your ears should have been burning cause we were talking about you. We were wishing you were with us. If we win lotto we will come down and visit you or if you do come up and see us. I have been busy, a close family friends daughter took her own life last Wednesday and we had the funeral on Monday. It was the saddest funeral I have ever been to. How are you and your hubby.

Hi grizzly Sorry was away at Mum's in Rotorua and then in Hamilton at my friends. Had to attend 5 hour meetings on Sat and Sun but had an awesome time. Finally met Dot and then Smartgirl had a coffee with me and I picked up my neat tiles to add to the stash. My car was loaded when I arrived home late last night. Ha ha. Still I managed to visit three sisters as well so that was good. Avoided the other one. I am so naughty. Lol. I was keeping my stress levels down. Yes we were talking about you my friend. We will meet one day I can feel it in my bones.

makerealbany - 2008-11-19 11:01:00
1359

Hiya smartgirl It was so cool to meet you yesterday. I like that coffee lounge. Next time we will grab Zoe as well. How was your granddaughter later. She was so patient. I never got home until 12-20. I had so many stops on the way. Jolly enjoyed my break though. Woke up and had to do three loads of washing and those boxes are winking at me. Unpack me unpack me. Ha ha. Think I will make a start. Have a lovely day girls.

makerealbany - 2008-11-19 11:05:00
1360

You both have been very busy. A very sad time for your friends family, smartgirl. Hubby had surgery yesterday after a 6 hour wait. Spoke to him last night and he sounded great but it was still early days to say he wasn't go to react to the anaesthetic like the last times. I'm going to see him this morning before going to work. I felt your vibes yesterday, I'm sure!

grizzly4 - 2008-11-20 08:22:00
1361

Wow once they transferred him from special care to the ward the occupational therapist was there within minutes almost to get him on his feet! Only 2 steps with crutches but pretty amazing all the same. He's not using as much morhine as expected either so they said he might be home Sunday instead of Tuesday. Fingers crossed, girls. Had a carnival afternoon with our 3 after school programmes combining. I got dragged out of the office to play as well and cook 70 American hotdogs. I'm sure I reeked of tomato and mustard by the time I got to the hospital last night.

grizzly4 - 2008-11-21 08:40:00
1362

Grizzly, I am so glad this opp has left him in a better state that the last one. They get them up really fast but its for a good reason, not like the old days. I have been out this morning and bought a lotto ticket so heres hoping we can all get together. Makereal I have a little visitor here today and she is asking if she can go and see Marget again. Have a good day ladies.

smartgirl - 2008-11-21 10:14:00
1363

Wow that is really good grizzly about Hubby doing so well after his op. I can relate to that smell. Ha ha. I remember visiting my sis and someone had been cooking fish and chips and the smell sure floated in that sterile environment. Made us all hungry.

makerealbany - 2008-11-21 16:49:00
1364

Tell her I said Hi smartgirl My granddaughter wore her father out that day. He had to mind her all day and was exhausted when my daughter arrived home from work. Ha ha. Well now he knows what it involves doing everything for a wriggling, exploring, independant miss 10 months old. It has been a really nice day today. Warm but with a breeze. All my rug wool arrived so now I have to find somewhere tostash it. Ugh. Had that wool winder going flat tack. So much easier than winding by hand.

makerealbany - 2008-11-21 16:54:00
1365

@*%#!!!! He can't come home Sunday now 'cos the occupational therapist left for the weekend without signing out the stuff he needs to bring home!!!! Have to wait till MOnday now. AND that means more time off work, my boss is going to have a fit soon. First time in 18 years I have used all my sick leave up!

grizzly4 - 2008-11-22 09:19:00
1366

That is bad grizzly Typical hospital case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing. After 18 years I am sure your boss will be sympathetic after all it is not your fault. These things happen and most Community Organisations are aware of the many problems families face especially when one has someone who is not so good, unwell, dealing with health issues, etc. The Health System either is very good or very bad and we all know that. Spent the day in the garden and feel as if I have made a hole in my gardening chores list. Loved the weather.

makerealbany - 2008-11-22 21:34:00
1367

The weather is lovely here too... Keep getting forecast for rain but doesn't get heavier than a light shower. I had baby B yesterday as usual and managed to get the housework caught up on during his naps. Took him up to the hospital with his Mum when she finished work then went to my sons family for a pizza tea. Very pleasant day. After all hubby's good works around our healthy meals I'm glad he can't see what I've been eating the last few days!!! Chocolate & takeaways have become a staple diet.

grizzly4 - 2008-11-23 09:26:00
1368

I just luv that choc and takeaways ha ha It does get like that when you are busy grizzly. If I look after M R she does not seem to sleep as long as she used to. I am running to get things done. She got her 6th tooth yesterday. They are off to Welli for a week from Wed so I will be on my lonesome. I have a list a mile long to achieve whilst they are away. Bought a Sofa Bed for my cottage. Arrived yesterday so now I can have a visitor to stay. Slowly making my way through the boxes. Was in the garden at 6-30 this morning did 4 hours hard toil, then went up to Orewa and my grandson and I mowed the lawns for his Mum. It is drizzling here but I want it to really rain. Tanks are very low.

makerealbany - 2008-11-23 17:02:00
1369

Well it did rain Not enough to fill both tanks though. Glad I had put new seedlings in the garden though. Got some new solar lights. They are coloured. Red. Did not think about it and SIL said it looks like a red light district. Ugh. They do look pretty and they are around the back of the cottage so the possums and birds will appreciate them. Ha ha. The rain did bring out lots of snails. I am a slug pellet nut so there were lots of dead ones yesterday. SIL did all the tiling he had to and the day after they return from Wellington they are getting new carpet right through the house so it will be frantic again. Was looking at rug canvas and it is so dear!!! Waiting for it to go on sale.

makerealbany - 2008-11-25 18:50:00
1370

Have the lights worked yet. I love the solar lights but mine never last too long. I lost my hard drive on Friday night and have just got back in action. Nearly $400 later. We have gone from 40g to 500 g as that was all that was available. grizzly I hope you have your husband home and things are looking up.

smartgirl - 2008-11-25 21:41:00
1371

Yes they worked that night smartgirl I have some that I got given 5 years ago and still going strong. Wow that hard drive was a bit of a b-gger. Glad it is fixed and much bigger. My oldest boy just took the hard drive out of my daughter's old computer and put it in his son's to give him more g. He is good at that sort of thing.

makerealbany - 2008-11-27 23:23:00
1372

Hi grizzly How are you? Is Hubby feeling any better now he is home. I have been stacking things and packing stuff in the house. They would have to get the whole house carpeted on one day. Ugh. I had to move all the books from two wall length bookcases into a bathroom. The bathroom is huge thank heavens but still got one wall to do. Heaven knows where I will put those. They are moving the bookcases out to put the carpet in. Next thing they will want to paint the bookcases. It never ends. I did manage to have some me time in the garden today, go to the gym as well as do 5 loads of washing. I packed 6 boxes of clothes our little girl has grown out of. I was able to put those in a storage cupboard. Daughter said she was really naughty on the flight to Wellington. Well it was the first time for her. ha ha.

makerealbany - 2008-11-27 23:33:00
1373

Hi girls Just in from mowing the lawns and read your emails smartgirl. They are priceless. I just rocked with the diary of a Health Club. Can I relate to that. It near killed me last time. They told me to go early about 7-30 in the morning. Not after I have been slogging my guts out all day. Makes sense. Ha ha. Went to a School Gala with no 1 daughter and teenage grand daughter and we had a ball. Got more plants. Dash it could not resist. Managed to get 5 more chrissy presents sorted today as well. I am on a roll. Now that is has cooled down I am going to shoot outside and plant some cucumber plants. Don't know where but I might use another recycling bin. My son's flats had all their small recycling bins changed to big wheelies and I got 6 of the old bins. Council said they would pick them up 4 months ago but didn't. I have spring onions, garlic, shallots and mixed herbs in 4 so I have 2 left. Also experimenting with a mini garden in a plastic bag. Have basil and parsley in that. Better run as it is getting dark.

makerealbany - 2008-11-29 20:20:00
1374

You have been busy makereal. I managed to kill my vacuum cleaner today so I have to buy a new one. There is always something to buy. I have planted some tomato plants and HR and I planted some seeds. I am going to plant beans tomorrow. I have to redo my herbs again. Sounds like you are really organised for Christmas. Such a nice time of the year.

smartgirl - 2008-11-29 21:18:00
1375

I also want to paint a lovely rocking cradle I purchased from Zoe and make a mattress, pillow and duvet for it. Its been to windy still to spray the weed but I have managed to pull them out as I go.

smartgirl - 2008-11-29 21:20:00
1376

Must be Vacuum cleaner blowout week Smartgirl. I have a Nilfisk Business for the house and it is great but I purchased a small one off TM for the cottage awhile ago and the b--- thing does not suck properly. I have pulled the ruddy thing apart and cleaned everything I can and it is hopeless. Works intermittently and I am about to toss it out. So frustrating. So I will have to lug the big one out. Spent 5 hours at Soccer today and even with sunblock I got burnt. Idiot woman!!!1 Had my teenage grandaughter stay in the cottage last night and we had such fun setting up the new sofa bed. We were in hysterics. I was about to blow a casket when she worked out how to set it up. She said it was really comfy so that was good. My neighbours are going away for xmas and I am minding the animals.

makerealbany - 2008-11-30 23:12:00
1377

She has about 20 or so rabbits 6 cats, 8 guinea pigs a dog and a Lamb. She was breeding the rabbits but she also has 3 children under 5 and it is all too much. We need to get homes for some of the rabbits. They are beautiful rabbits but it costs a fortune to feed that many and it is too time consuming. So if you want a rabbit. Let me know smartgirl. How are you grizzly. Had a busy weekend I'll bet.

makerealbany - 2008-11-30 23:17:00
1378

NOt so busy... too knackered. Hubby has not slept since he came home on Monday last week. Drugs aren't working for the pain. Going to GP today. I have run out of sick leave so running up some weekend time to owe at work. Put my back out, would you believe it the day he came home. It was probably hilarious watching the 2 of us try and get things done round here.

grizzly4 - 2008-12-01 08:27:00
1379

Oh you poor beggars grizzly Things will improve girl. I can just picture you two all injured and struggling around. You have to laugh otherwise you would cry. You cannot nurse your back because no one else is there to do what you have to do. No sleep makes for bad tempers so I hope the GP gives hubby a muscle relaxant so he can sleep. Tell him to give you some as well girl. You cannot function if you do not sleep. I know this only too well. Drizzling here and I wanted to do the washing. Blow it all. I seem to be doing a lot of cussing lately. There is so much to do and not enough time. Have to seal tiles today before bubs gets home tomorrow. Her dad tiled in front of all the ranchsliders in 4 rooms plus the back entrance way and I promised to seal them. Me and my big mouth. Lol. When will I learn to take on less work for myself?

makerealbany - 2008-12-01 12:00:00
1380

They are home today Could not seal the tiles because sil did not grout them and I ran out of time. Will be off line until Friday.

makerealbany - 2008-12-02 09:30:00
1381

I know you aren't there to read this, makerealbany, but I have to say your cottage sounds really wonderful. Had to buy a fake xmas tree this year 'cos there's no way either of us can lug a bucket of dirt and tree around. Our outside lights will be limited to where I can reach, too. No ladders and roofs for me!!

grizzly4 - 2008-12-03 08:28:00
1382

Your are right grizzly, sounds like are real wee haven. I am surprised you even could make the effort to put up a tree at all. I am doing mine with the g/kids this weekend. They love this time of the year.

smartgirl - 2008-12-04 10:37:00
1383

Me too! From Labour Weekend on is usually a great time. I guess things are improving so I shouldn't get down on life too much. There have certainly been some nice things happening too! I finish work on the 22nd and then have a month off so I hope this wonderful weather keeps up, although 28 degrees is a little too warm for me.

grizzly4 - 2008-12-05 08:35:00
1384

Hi Girls Carpet is down and what a difference it makes. It has been a hellish few days but well worth it. My 19 year old grandson stayed to help us out which was great because they had to move every stick of furniture out onto the verandahs. We are all recovering. Ha ha. Yes my cottage is lovely. I can do my housework in no time at all. Lol. Just have to put the curtain tracks over the ranchsliders in the lounge and kitchen. After xmas will get a Linen cupboard built and a shed. I have tiles for my mosaics in the big shed and in the cupboards of the main bathroom in the house so need to get them out. Put xmas decos up in the cottage and daughter is doing hers today. First family xmas dinner on Sunday. Have to wrap pressies. I luv that part. First year I haven't baked Xmas cakes. Everyone is on a health kick and the grandchildren hate fruit cake. Feels odd but less work. You are right there are some lovely things happening and your holiday is something to look forward to grizzly. How is hubby?

makerealbany - 2008-12-05 11:02:00
1385

He has been home 2 weeks now. Still hasn't slept. I think there has been 2 or 3 nights where he got about 4 hours. Morphine tablet not working at all.
He copes better with the pain during the day and is wonderful about organising tea again for us and doing odd jobs around the house. Physio is really please with his progress and he has 90% movement back in his knee. Although lots of pain to get there each time. Makes me feel very helpless.

grizzly4 - 2008-12-06 09:04:00
1386

In my spare time (haha) I have managed to knit a child's fairisle cardy, 2 prs baby sox and crocheted a dolls blanket. I will feel very productive when I work in the shop tomorrow. To day, I have to catch up on the housework and mow the lawns. The weather is still holding so pottered in the garden yesterday while hubby and baby B took a nap. Thinking of you in your wee cottage, makerealbany.

grizzly4 - 2008-12-07 09:26:00
1387

Hi grizzly Hopefully physio will help hubby and he will start to feel less pain. You have still been as busy as ever even with all the stress girl. We had our first Xmas dinner yesterday and I did not have to do a thing for the dinner. Yay. But I will be cooking at the one on Xmas Day because no 1 girl is expecting my little grandson. She had a scan today and everything is great. She is 40 so I was concerned. Had a great time playing with 3 of my grandchildren yesterday. Forgot all about the net. We had been busy on Saturday getting the yard ready and everything decorated. It was a happy funfilled day. Now I know what colours to knit. My girl luvs the bright vibrant ones so this knitting will be different.

makerealbany - 2008-12-08 18:17:00
1388

Hey smartgirl What are you up to babe? How is H? M R is into everything and really asserts herself vocally now. Ha ha. Loves to play and gets really bugged when she has to have a nap or after her bath when she has to settle for the night. She shakes the cot and vocalizes really loudly. She is mostly a really placid happy little girl.

makerealbany - 2008-12-08 18:22:00
1389

How exciting Makereal, I am so glad all is well. It is such a worry and a great relief to be told everything is well. My 2 wee girls are coming tomorrow and staying till Wed afternoon so we are going to have fun.

smartgirl - 2008-12-08 18:22:00
1390

We are lucky to have grandchildren Even the teenagers still surprise me with their antics. I can see their parents as children doing the same things. My grandchildren love hearing tales about their parents younger days. The look of delight on their faces when I relate some of the tales is priceless. It is nice for them to know that their parents were not perfect either. Ha ha.

makerealbany - 2008-12-09 15:37:00
1391

Miss Holly greeted me this morning with "How about shutting the gate", she obviously had not heard her father call out to leave it open. So cute.

smartgirl - 2008-12-09 19:52:00
1392

Well they continue to baffle me! Had my Hospital tests this morning. They stopped them shortly after beginning because there was no indication of asthma. It's truly a miracle as I have been on inhalers for over 6 years!!!! They say that there is no asthmatic reason for my coughing. I didn't know where to laugh, scream or cry! I am no closer to an answer it seems.

grizzly4 - 2008-12-10 20:38:00
1393

Hell grizzly they told my girlfriend the same thing and she has had asthma for years. They put her on Prednisone about 5 mills a day. She has stopped coughing but put on kilos. She is my really sick friend the one I am fetching for xmas. They had better look elsewhere for answers to your coughing.

makerealbany - 2008-12-11 19:16:00
1394

smartgirl She says Nana now. Mumma, dadda and no. Funny that Ha ha. Say hi to H for me.

makerealbany - 2008-12-11 19:18:00
1395

I don't know about these first time parents! My daughter has embarassed herself about the amount she has bought baby B for xmas she is starting to give some stuff to him already.Haha. She'll learn.

grizzly4 - 2008-12-12 08:21:00
1396

....... Unlike Nanas!!!!!

grizzly4 - 2008-12-12 08:22:00
1397

Well our family is the same We buy her presents and give them to her and then have to buy more as well. We do the same with the 5 year old because he is one of our babies. Ha ha. He was given a remote controlled car last Sunday(early xmas present because his Aunt and Uncle are overseas for xmas). He was lucky his uncle spent ages showing him how to make it work!!!!!! Boys and their toys. We Nanas cannot help ourselves. Lol.

makerealbany - 2008-12-12 10:20:00
1398

Some people are so quick to judge! I was loading the groceries into the back of my car last night when a woman passing by made a comment to her husband about me having to lift the heavy bags while my husband just sat in the car. I was so angry I couldn't get the words out! Shame while she was poking her nose into my business she didn't notice the crutches in the back seat! And she never offered to help anyway! It was a huge walk for him round the supermarket and he was pretty knackered by the time we had finished. I was happy to load the car and he did help put the stuff away at home.

grizzly4 - 2008-12-13 08:52:00
1399

grizzly, that awful, I bet after they had gone you thought of a million things to say. grandmothers are allowed to spoil their g/kids. Miss 1 loves wearing Miss 2's skirt so I thought I would make her one for Christmas. Now they both have 2 new ones each. Just dont know when to stop.

smartgirl - 2008-12-13 10:33:00

Sewing is something I would like to get back into during my month off. S says she would like some wee boys cotton summer pj's 'cos baby B's room is so warm. So we plan to shop for fabric and a pattern after xmas. I made all my kids clothes. All their photos are in outfits I made and yet the young Mum's are so into mass produced stuff! I get a tremendous buzz seeing those photos and so my pleased my daughter has asked.
