Morning everyone

We had a light frost, as I expected. But its beautiful out there. Not a cloud in the sky.

We got Erin to get the heater out for us this morning. Its ntill you cant that you realise we keep things in places not always accessable. So thats plugged in ready to use. Missy has looked at it but not long enough to drop hints about it not being turned on lol

Ohh Flick I hope everyone improves, but it always seems faster if all are sick at one stage. I remember when mum was living with us, we all caught the 90 day cough. but it was aboout a month apart each. so there was someone coughing for many months

Glad your dad likes the blanket Kiwimade. Would be horrible if he didnt. would make things even more uncomfortable.

The Nurse is due today. I have a feeling we will be having a go at removing some of the heavy scabbing. Its tight and really needs to come off so it can mend underneath. Not looking forward to it. but it has to be done.

Have a fab day everyone and stay nice and warm

Nurse has just been.

I dont like the way it looks. But I guess they know best. If I went to the drs they may just redress it . Which has been done already.
They put some seaweed stuff on it hoping to dry it out. After the nurse on friday put stuff on it to moisten it.

I dont really know what to do.

Popeye, Our doctors have a phone line where you can ring up speak to a nurse. They will also check with your doctor if need to and get back to you.
Sun out here at present, but still very cold.

Popeye, l have had my belly cut open numerous times and they do take a while to heal one of mine kept opening up so had the nurse coming for several months. It had just healed when they had to operate again, would be easier to have a zip l am up to 7 times it has been open so far. It got to the stage l told my family next time l will just die of sepsis l refused to have surgery again, l was rushed in unconscious and my daughter had POA so she approved. It is a long road to recovery and very hard when you live on your own.
Violet still loves her purple blanket she skypes me every night to read her school homework and is cuddled up, she thinks you are just the bees knees and very clever. She is asking me to teach her how to knit but the frustration of doing french knitting last holidays makes me think l will delay a few years.

Thank you everyone

It was no use trying to talk to a nurse I was crying too much and barely made sence
I realise its going to be a long slow men, but Seeing soo many different District nurses, and they all have their own way.
The one on Friday wanted it moist to try and help the scab. The one today wanted it dry.

I want it how my Dr says. Its open nearly 3 cms now. Black and looks like half chewed oysters in it. Its ghastly.
I will only feel comfortable once I have seen my GP.. and Ill get extra antibiotics while Im there.

Morning everyone.. was Balmy 0.7 when I woke up a wee while ago. Might be tiime for hot porridge rather than cold weetbix in the mornings now. Since Ive gone off bread.

Amd feeling alot brighter this morning. I had some fast working pain meds before I went to sleep last night and that has helped alot.

Was talking with Grandmasue from here last night. She had a similar type of surgery years ago and it ended up being a massive mess. Of which is still not sorted out. She asked me if I had a care plan, which is something I hadnt heard of, so I will ask my dr this morning. So that the District nurses have to follow that plan. So at least everyone will be on the same page. So I do feel more in control today.

Was looking for something yesterday and came across the poncho I made last winter, so thats now in the lounge for me to snuggle under when Im resting. Oh thats another thing Grandmasue said, to try not to be sitting straight up, to lean back a bit will help too.

So have a fab day everyone. Ill let you know what the Dr says

morning ladies :) Another gorgeous day here starting with a frost.

GMS is lovely, popeye, always great to hear from someone who has been in your shoes. It saves a lot of heart ache in the end pain wise.

Still knitting away on this rug. About two thirds of the way on the second panel now. It's knitting up quickly thanks to 5mm needles.

happy knitting :)

Good Morning everyone. Slow start this morning, had a great sleep waking up to a blue sky and sun shining. Had a load of firewood dropped off on Saturday so will start moving it this morning to the woodshed. We hired a new company to come and cut the lawns, trim the trees and tidy up the gardens. I just can't do everything at present.

Mr S is moving a lot more again and will see the Physio staff next Thursday. Now he driving and can get out he is in a better head space. About time!
I need to put some time aside and knit the facecloth,so I can post it. The blanket going slowly at present. Need to knit a small sample up to see if it going to work for me.

Popeye all the best! Hope your visit to the Doctor goes well.

Hope everyone has a great day and enjoy it.Stay warm!

Back finally and my head is in a much beeter place now. My Dr is not very happy with the District nurses.
She cut away some of the dead scab, and wants it all kept moist so she can continue to cut away the scab to let the healing happen better.
She wrote me a letter and I had it photocopied so I can give the nurses a copy each, of what my Dr wants to happen. And she wants them to change the dressings every second day. And she said its going to be months for it to heal properly.
I managed to get a couple of waistband support things in the cheapie shops, but the med centre nurse is going to see if the hospital can supply one for me too
All in all its not been a very well organised thing for me.

Sunflowers Im glad Mrs is improving... Ohh I miss having a fire. I even like cleaning out fires and coal ranges. we have a heater that has the fake fire flames lol...

Still knitting away, another three repeats of the cable and the middle section is finished. I went to Yoga and omg I slept like a baby last night.

Morning everyone

Yeah Kiwimade the whole surgery and recovery has been a comedy of errors really. My GP was shocked when I told her about the warfarin/epidural mistake too. So hopefully all will be better from now on.
I was feeling soo good last night that I forgot to take a pain med, so working on very little this morning till it kicks in.

We have a yoga place here now too Kiwimade. I hope to be able to use it when Im all better. It may help my back enough that I sholdnt need all the toxic meds i take for pain.

Your flyiing through the blanket.

Shopping today , I saw some nice hooded jackets in the warehouse mailer and I want to look at those today. And we will pick up a meat pack I ordered at the Mad Butcher. $60 and its chicken breast, diced beef, strifry beef and pork, bacon, chicken nibbles and chicken nuggets. And it has a roast of pork but Iim swapping that out for chicken.

Have a fab day everyone,

morning ladies :) Another frosty morning here but not as hard as the last few days.

I finished the middle panel of the knee rug so not much more to do now. I should have it finished for Dad by the end of next week. I think he's a tad reluctant to give up my mohair throw though lol.

MrK has been busy 'working' for a friend, helping him prepare some land for a new house. It's a good break for him and helps his mate out too.

Housework for me today and I need to do a few things in town later.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
We have a fairly rare heavy fog over a frost. The heleicopters have been out for the last four nights keeping the frost off the nearly ready to pick kiwifruit. Both sides of town too so its a constant groan. They cant be too far from being picked tho, so it doesnt last forever.
The other day I saw some for sale for $1-50 Each, yesterday just under $3 a kilo.
I was a very tired and sore bunny last night, from a full on shopping day. But I have all the lovely meat in the freezer.
Ill make a good beef casserole to turn into pie fillings for MrP. Cant wait to try the new pie tins.
I have pie makers but the pastry goes soo hard in them. And you cant make a decent depth in the family pie maker. And I feel bacon and egg pies especailly should be deep.

Nurse is coming today. and I have my letter ready.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning everyone

Ohh Flick thats soo pretty, I wish I could read crochet patterns. Theres soo much I could do if only I could understand them.

Had a very quiet day yesterday. The district nurse was Far from happy having to read the letter and then do what it said. Her reply ws in a very Snarky voice, "well if thats what the dr wants, thats what she will get. " and That kind put my mind else where and it wasnt till she was gone, after stating she didnt think anyone would be here tomorrow, that she didnt even wash the wound. She just ripped off the dressings, put some gel on them and covered them up again.

I was sore in the afternoon so took the big painkiller and slept for two hours.

Its a Month today, and only 1/4 of the way mended. But we will get there in the end.

Have a fab day everyone

morning ladies :) The wee dress is sooo pretty flick :) Well done, and even more satisfying when you did it without a pattern.

Popeye, I would be saying something about the district nurse, that is unacceptable. Personally, I would be happy to follow a plan knowing everyone was on the same page. Maybe you should have a support person there with you (someone besides MrP) when she does your dressing again.

Didn't get much knitting done yesterday but I did give the bathroom a thorough going over. As it get's older it gets shabbier so it will be the next room we renovate.

Dad is staying with my sister this weekend so we plan to make the most of it.

Happy knitting :)

Popeye l had the same so l instructed the nurse each time at each step to get it right. l was lucky that one nurse was really good so l requested to be seen by her whenever possible then at subsequent surgeries she always came. l always had several months of visits for each surgery.

Afternoon ladies, I've been a bit slack the last couple of days, seem to have been out and about a lot, shopping, lunches, evenings out etc, have had very little time to knit or crochet, but last night I knuckled down and sewed up a little turtle I knitted, which has a loose "shell" on him/her like a jacket. I've just got to embroider the eyes and I suppose it has a mouth - I haven't looked, and then it's finished, and I have started on sewing up another pukeko.

I went to knit and natter on Wednesday and took along my cow puzzle which I had finished, and one of the other ladies snapped it up. Luckily I had taken a pic, so I will put it up shortly for you to see.

We were supposed to have a craft market today but the cruise ship cancelled because the forecast was for crappy weather, and boy has it delivered! Heavy rain woke me at 2.30 this morning, but I turned over and quickly went back to sleep. It eased off for a while when I first got up but now it is torrential. My sea view has all but disappeared.

Yesterday afternoon I spent a very frustrating few hours on the internet trying to find a cheap flight back from the UK. Thought I had succeeded then realised it was in US$. Eventually bit the bullet and just booked, even though it is more than I expected to pay. I've also booked and paid for the flight from Auckland to Kerikeri, so now just have to book the train from my home town to Gatwick. My sister phoned yesterday and said she will come with me on the train and wait at the airport as long as she can, just so we can have a few more hours together.

I didn't check whether I'm allowed to take my knitting needles on the flight, some airlines allow it, some don't. I have a horrible feeling Emirates don't. I will have to take my kindle.

I had planned to go to the club this afternoon to play mah jong, but to be honest, I can't be bothered going out in this awful weather, so think I will stay home.

Hope everyone is keeping warm and dry and if you are enjoying heavy rain like I am what better excuse do you need to put your feet up and knit.

Yep Kiwimade I now have back up.

I told our homecare lady what happened and she has told her boss. They are all under the same "Umbrella" and she will chase them for me tomorrow if they havent turned up.
The dressing on the worst bit is quite soaked, it will be lucky if it hangs on till tomorrow. I have stuff here if it does open up.
Needless to say I'm simply sitting and have it propped up on a towel so its not got the tension on it.
The stupid thing, as my brother told me yesterday, I wouldnt have let this happen to MrP or mum but Im not being pro-active on my own behalf. So I need to give myself a clip around the ear, and make some noises that are needed.

Its cooling down now into a raw sort of cold. Different to the crispness of a frost. Time to rug up I think.

Love the cow Kuaka.. They are soo cool.. Im sure all the stress of organising your holiday will not even be thought of once you are on the holiday. Will be nice for you to see your sister.

Morning everyone
A wet one here today. No wind tho. The rain is coming straight down. And not soo cold either.

Today is a wait and see Day. To see if the nurse will turn up. The dressing badly needs changing and Id rather it be done at home . And I want a full on shower not just a bird bath as we call them. But I dont want the dressing to come off and then not see anyone till Tuesday.

Im still not doing anything. Half of me is ok with that but my other side sees it as wasting time. all the time in the world that I never have to do things and Im simply sitting and mending.

Hope everyone has a good day. Perfect weather for staying inside crafting

morning ladies, it's pretty wild and wooly here too weatherwise.

I just love the cow, kuaka, especially the udders lol. So clever! And I'm also sure once you get to England, all t he stress of making the bookings will be forgotten.

Popeye, mending your body is not wasting time. Without this time, you will be doing even less so just do what you have to do.

We're going to the Field Days this year as we haven't been for years. I'm hoping to find a boot scraper I can put at the end of the ramp as I've been trekking mud from my gumboots. I'll know the sort when I see it.

I didn't get much knitting done last night, was pretty tired so hopefully can knit today sometime.

Happy knitting :)

Yay my fave nurse came. She is lovely, confident and explains things really well.
She is putting in a request for the vaccuum machine thing. And is going to get a pressure cushion sent to me. To help prevent pressure sores on me butt.
I was feeling very blah and down before she rang , but she has cleaned it out, and put more gel in it. I managed to have a quick shower before she came too, so Im feeling much better and happier.
Ive chosen a couple of colours I want for a picture I will start later. Its hearts roses and an anchor. So hopefully I will like the results..

Last time we went to the Feildays it was freezing and foggy. But turned into a beautiful day. And our Dutch friend we took was blown away that I liked that sort of thing and they they practically had to drag me away from the wood cutting area. Ive always loved wood chopping and the chainsaw work they do.
Those boot scrapers are neat Kiwimade, Ive seen a really good one made like an Ant. Cant think who has it tho.

Good Morning Ladies. Sunshine, rain and wind yesterday. Rained most of the night and again this morning. Either knitting or reading today. Not so cold today.
Have a blanket on my needles at present so I can watch either TV or a DVD.

I feel sorry for the farmers and their family who are moving to new places in this weather. Spend many an hour watching cattle going passed our place, along with all the household packed on the back of a truck. Many a time the gate was opened to let a herd go pasted as we lived on a stock route.

It's some time since I been to a Felid Day. Hope you enjoy your day and you get your boot scraper kiwimade.
Popeye you are doing well by the sound of it. Rest and just go with the flow. Yes, it will take time.

Been looking at fares to England as well Kuaku and yes its like a minefield. We have a wedding later in the year to go to. Just looking at this stage. You will enjoy seeing your sister and friends.

Mr S is still in a lot of pain and will see his doctor this week.
He came with me yesterday to the local Weavers Annual Sale. Some great felting, knitting on display for sale.
Going out to see some art yarn that a friend dyes, spins and sells it in lovely colourful hanks this week.
Time to move and see what Mr S plans are for today.

Happy Knitting and stay warm and Dry.

Morning ladies, well I haven't been out of the house since Friday because the weather was atrocious on Saturday, not quite so bad yesterday but I had no reason to venture out.

My sister phoned and has booked for my trip to Gatwick when I return, she is going to come with me so the waiting won't seem so long and we can spend a bit longer together. She said it seems awful booking for my return when I haven't even got there yet.

I plan to go and stay with my son for a few days this week, which means I had better shorten those curtain linings which I made way back in January or February and I made them too long for the curtains. I seem to have a habit of leaving things till the last minute.

I'm doing a shocking pink pig at the moment. Just have to do 3 feet and her ears and she is finished, then I think I will cast on a mobius cowl. I looked at the websites after booking, and we are going Air NZ to Houston, they allow knitting needles and crochet hooks on the flight, then we fly Singapore Airlines to Manchester. They don't allow knitting needles or crochet hooks. I'm coming back Emirates and they don't allow them either. I'm going to try with very short needles and an acrylic crochet hook and see if I can get away with it. I've got nearly 7 hours to wait in Dubai and the flight itself is long so I don't fancy going that long without something in my hands.

Right, I had better get cracking on these wretched curtain linings.

Stay dry everyone, at least it's not as cold as it was last week.

Happy knitting.

Morning everyone
A mixed cloud pattern out there so think we will get everything today.

I actually finally did some colouring yesterday. which I enjoyed.

Off to the drs today for another trimming session. I hope the Dr will be pleased that things are being done properly although probably wont like that the nurse didnt clean it on Friday.

Need to post a birthday card to my Aunt today too. She is 84 tomorrow and Very much with it. We txt and she is on FB too. We have the lack of cartiledge in common. Althought she had surgery in the 80s. And cant say that it was completely successfull. She isnt blood related, she was my Fave Uncles wife. But no matter how much time passes we will always be close.

Hope everyones knitting and crochet is growing well

Have a Fab day

Help with knitting and wool.
Hello ladies. My granddaughter wants me to knit her a cardigan (she is 20), she has sent me a picture of one and I have been to Spotlight to get some wool. 8 ply. The trouble is, finding a pattern in 8 ply not on round needles very difficult to get right pattern.. If I use a pattern I have found, can I use my 8 ply wool using two balls at a time to make it chunky? Hope someone can understand and help me. Thanks.

rosynana - 2018-06-05 17:12:00
13586

rosynana, using two strands of 8 ply to give a thick chunky is fine if you are doing something like a blanket where the final size isn't important, but the number of stitches on the pattern will change dramatically the finished resultn- it's not something I would tackle and I consider myself to be a fairly "experienced" knitter having knitted for about 65 years. Best you find a pattern for the wool you have, or find a pattern you like and then buy the wool for it. Good luck.

kuaka - 2018-06-05 19:26:00
13587

morning ladies :) Rosyanna, have you tried the ravelry website for patterns? Lots of patterns are free and you can filter out what you are looking for... although be prepared to spend a lot of time there lol.

We're off to Napier for the day, son is buying a motorcycle and we got a call asking us if we 'wanted to go to Napier' . In other words, mum & dad, can you take me lol. All good, MrK would want to see the bike with him anyway and give his advice. And son wouldn't have it any other way. I'm hoping we can sneak a peek at Skeins while there, will have to see how we go for time.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,
Have a safe trip Kiwimade, and it is good to have a second set of eyes that see the bike without the buzz of wanting it.

All went well at the drs yesterday. We got the large hard piece off, so was very tender but it also gives releif cos its not pulling soo hard. This is the bit that the wound vacc is going on. My Dr has approved it. Then one more piece to cut off next week. But its pretty much halfway mended now. Bending is still very difficult
The pay off of all the pain meds is I havent had a sore back or knee for the month either lol.
Im going to try and catch up with GMS again too, but I think she has an appointment today. I want to know how "tied up" ill be with the pump etc, re shopping..

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, it looks like a lovely day out there today, which is good as I'm off to visit my son for a few days once I'm organised. Course it's not a holiday. I have finally shortened the curtain linings that I made back in the summer and were too long, and I have curtain tracks to take too. I asked him if he has an iron and ironing board and I thought he would never stop laughing, so they go in too, along with the sewing machine (just in case something still isn't right) and then last night he asked do I have a small step ladder I can take so it's just as well I wasn't intending going on the bus.

Have some knitting to take with me and I might catch up with my sister-in-law while I'm down there. Wanted to catch up with a friend but apparently he's in London so that's not going to work.

Safe travels kiwimade - Skeins - oh I'd love to visit there, and also The Wool Company in Taihape is on my list of "to visit" if I'm ever down that way.

Sounds like you are slowly mending popeye. You will be pleased when you are fully healed and can get back to normal.

Have a super day everyone.

Good Morning,
Ladies.kiwimade, Go easy on the Napier/Taupo Road as it's had a lot of snow on it the last few days and more to come. Hope you are able to get to Skeinz when you down here. Don't let the males stop you. Take over the driving. Yes, we have crossed that road so many times over the years we been here in Napier.

Good to hear you are doing well Popeye. Just don't overdo it now. How is the picture coming along?

Slow start to the week as I was not well over the w/end and I had plans to do a lot of things. Now catching up.
Have a facecloth to finish and get it into the post today.

Taking Mr S down to the doctors that I changed over to a while back. They are happy to take him. The physio (s) are due to come tomorrow morning. Once every two weeks. I understand this is there las visit. He will go to his own physio from now on. Mr S is still in a lot of pain after over 2 and half months since his op.
Coffee finished, washing to hang out.
Hope you all have a great day.

Good afternoon, It has just started pouring with rain here in Rotorua, and it is a bit chilly. I was going to get started on knitting my granddaughter's cardigan, but it seems like I just need to bite the bullet and get some bulky wool, oh darn. I would prefer to knit in 8 ply because my thumb is not happy with the thicker wool. So I will try Ravelry, thanks for that. I would be lost without my knitting. Hope you are all having a good day.

rosynana - 2018-06-06 13:52:00

morning ladies :) Talk about a flying visit to Napier! We managed to get there by 1.00pm, son bought and insured the bike by 2.00pm and then back on the road to have him in Hamilton by 6.00pm as he had an evening shift at work. So sadly, no shopping for me. Next time hopefully. But we do have one very happy son. And a happy MrK as he saw the bike and we didn't have the worry of him riding back over the Tawareras. No snow either but boy it was cold so snow must be on the way.

Rosynana, we copped that rain on the Tawarera's and boy it was nasty. It cleared up a bit by the sheep stations but caught up to us again at Taupo.

I'll return the trailer I borrowed today and I have some gardening to do then knitting later on.

Safe travels to those travelling.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
Rosynana what about choosing a few patterns close to like what your grand daughter wants, of course choosing 8ply ones. Or simply tell her the thicker wool is going to cause you pain to do.. At 20 she should understand. Different if she was 5-6.

A very busy day here today. Carer in as usual, but my Fave nurse is coming around lunchtime to hook me up to the wound pump. And OT are bringin out a cushion sometime this afternoon. A bit of shopping picking up meds etc this morning and the lawns will be done today too..

Good Morning Ladies. Glad we are not the only ones who these trips Kiwimade. Yes, we don't do it as much now. Sure got cold later in the afternoon rain and woke to see snow on the ranges this morning. Sunshine at present. Just may catch Skeinz at Cambridge later in the month. If not you see heaps of other lovely yarns.

Glad to hear everything going ok at present for you Popeye. Good to see you are getting the help you need.

Finished a face cloth last night and looks ok.now. I undid first one as I had too many stitches. So back to my blanket today. Dropped my sewing machine off yesterday for a checkout. Hope to have it back next week.

Off now to hang some washing and tidy up around the place before I head to the gym.
Have a great day and Happy Crafting.

Morning everyone
Oh Kiwimade do take care and try and keep the fluids up. Vommiting bugs are plain nasty.

I didnt end up "wired" up yesterday. After talking with the nurse we decided to leave it until the last bit of dead skin is off. They we can cover the whole bit with the vacc. Interesting things, they are about the size of a calculator and run on batteries. And you pop them into a pocket. I seldom wear anything with pockets so Im going to crochet a little bag with a long strap to hang it over my shoulder.
The vacc packs are $200 each and are only used once.. Soo pleased I dont have to pay for it.
And my cushion didnt turn up either lol

I did a little bit too much yesterday, maybe one less shop and I would have still been good. So Im learning what I can and cant do now.. Took me long enough lol.

Was talking to our lovely landlord yesterday and she has offered to come and weed our gardens and the lemon tree. we were going to pull it out, but she asked if we knew how much fruit was on it. I just havent been out there but its loaded again. So we are going to keep it and she is going to pull all the kykuyu grass out of it.. we sure do have the best landlord.

Have a fab day everyone. Its clear here, but it feels warmer that yesterday

Good morning well nearly afternoon - chilly and grey here but supposed to clear this afternoon - Ash is nagging to get going
Popeye pleased you are sorting yourself out - had problems with some of the nurses that came when Mr G was sick - we were luck we had a very contactable GP who overrode some of them - one wanted to wake him up one day and put Vaseline on his oxygen tubes into his nose - lucky I rang the GP and asked before I did it as it has petroleum in it and that just does not mix with oxygen
Rosynana if your granddaughter wants a chunky thick cardy - have a look online at Skeinz - last year I knitted a jacket for my graddaughter using their 14ply - it was so easy to knit with - I have problems with my hands so I never use straight needles now but instead use my circular needles as straight needles then all the weight of your knitting is on the cord and can be on your knee so to speak rather than on your straight needles - that's probably not making much sense -
