re 1209 Take the collection to a couple of reputable stamp dealers - there should be plenty in Auckland.
Most antique dealers probably wouldn't have much knowledge of stamps.
The first stamps were issued in 1840, so you wouldn't have any dated 1703.

The big interest for myself is the postal history side, ie numeral cancelations, postmarks etc. nameplaces of South and West Australia in particular are getting harder to find, prices are always on the rise. The stamps of Queenland have plenty of scope for the specialist, escpecially the lower value Queen heads of 1880 - 1900.

RARE STAMPS? I inherited some stamps from my grandfather some time ago and havent done much with them i am only just now doing some research on them for value etc, i have found a couple of them on the site
www.old-stamps.de but no value is listed unlike alot of sites, if any stamp collectors could help me out id appreciate it, i have about 90 pages of stamps from anywhere to 1850-1960 ish

1228 Have some of both the German & Australian ones you have.. On a simplified basis, you probably need to borrow a Stanley Gibbons catalogue set for Germany/World or get alongside some who has these references / knowledge. Germany in some areas has started moving upwards in recent few years, depending on what you have there. We have the cats on these to about 2006/7.. Aussie earlies might have varieties.. simplified there mightn't necessarily be rarities there .. again find recent catalogues, (sometimes listed here) from your library, from a friendly collector or try your local stamp club.. A dealer might also help, but it's time consuming stuff..

Germany early 1920's - 30's into the 100's of millions of marks, there may well be value in good cond postally used values, but not alot in mint or mint hinged values.. Earlier mid 1800's is always intersting & might have some surprises.. Early 1950's East & West Germany in places might be interesting & reveal highish value many mightn't be aware is now present with some issues..

Rare stamps? Try the local Library for the latest Stanley Gibbons Catalouges ,dosnt cost any thing and very infomative and if you decide to take them home take a sack barrow as they are bloody heavy.
