Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

There's a tm trader who frequently masquerades as a woman in his multiple alternative accounts. He's been known to auction fake sovereigns as well as other fakes as genuine coins. It's a shame I can't remember their trading name as they may have been interested in it.

your australian pennies are worth between about $2.00-$5.00 each in ave/cir condition.
does your 1919 penny have double dots on it,the bottem & top scroll??
your other pennies are worth about $1.00 each in ave/cir condition.
does your 1912 pennies have a *h* by the date on the left hand ? if it does its worth a wee bit more ok, hope that helps you out

It's a good thing that Chris can't remember the traders' name(s) in #1202. That touch of Alzheimer's disease has saved him from a further suspension! This all reminds me of the old 1957 movie "The Three Faces of Eve" about a person having Multiple Personality Disorder. Perhaps this male trader also has Sexual Orientation Confusion on top of this disorder. We should be sorry for him/her.as ripping off people with fakes may be the highlight of their (???) life/lives.

Ok, there's a long story here, but I'll give you the brief version. The US "won" the Philipines from Spain in 1899 and controlled them until 1946. That's why it says "Filipines" - that's a Spanish spelling.

Partly as a result of Japanese occupation during the war, coins for the Philipines were minted in Philadelphia (no mint mark), Denver (D) and San Francisco (S). I believe you will find a D on the ten cent piece, which is also likely part silver. I'm not sure of the percentage offhand.

No huge values in any case, but should be in Krause, which I don't have handy. Or try here:

And rebel, I feel your pain on that Standing Liberty quarter auction. Stupid coins!

Put a buy now of $2 and I will relieve you of this horrible burden. Or ACTUAL approximate silver value (NZ$7) if you really want it gone quickly.

IMPORTANT: This is another case where if you can identify it as a 1923, it's worth having a photo that shows it. Cheers, Tim

Have two more cases of Numismatic Transmogrification like #1199 in which uncirculated coins in plastic holders suddenly become Proofs. See two NZ 1953 Proof Crown listings 550135071 and 550943369 . These miracles never cease to amaze me.

I ask as I have listed things incorrectly in the past not really knowing what things are and TM has deleted a couple of my auctions in the past saying they are replica's. Just being cautious and asking the experts with things I am not sure about or can't find. Oh and I have spare time whilst partly on holidays!

If time is on your side, the best bet is to group them in quantities of five to ten. Take very good pix.

Do you have a camera, and are you decent at taking photos? The easy way with a good camera is to put it on Auto. If you are more motivated, look for a flower icon that is a setting called Macro. This is specifically for the purpose of taking close-up photos. This process is easier with a tripod, though you can stabilise the camera yourself by holding the camera with both hands and placing your elbows on a flat surface above the coins.

It's also better to turn off the flash and shoot with natural sunlight. Cameras that cost more than $100 or so (and maybe some that are less) have a remarkable number of options for taking good pix, but the main point is that good pix of both sides of your coins generally = better returns. Good pix reveal the quality of coins, whether that quality be good or bad.

You've been truly honoured, you don't usually see so many of the coin club 'personalities' on one page! It's good to see some of the old faces posting again like alpha!!!! and rebel as well as the usual suspects - chefman, lester and echoriath. It bodes well for the new year. Now all we need is for another old face to pop up and start yelling 'quartel' (he means cartel but his spelling is a bigger fail than his grading)! No, maybe his grading is alright, maybe it was another trader who had grading issues. (damn this alzheimers).

Anyway, back to the present, nice coins you have listed, I may even have bid on a few!

Hi there, my hubby has just been sorting out his 2 cent coins and found he had just one with the 1970 (he also happy because it's the year he was born) and we were wondering how rare is that, I have looked at a website containing what year our coins were minted and it showed there wasn't supposed to be any in the year 1970, just being nosy for hubby's sake and good on yas for putting up another coin club

1970 2 cent coins were not minted in that year, they only come in the 1970 coin sets only, good fine then.

HI there, my daughter is after a Prussian coin... she is really into history and this is her latest thing... Any suggestions where I maybe able to start to look to find one that HAS to have the Prussian eagle on it and doesn't need a second mortgage to buy(ha ha - will be her own money)... have been looking on here but no luck so far...

Thanks in advance

julieo - 2013-01-18 16:03:00

julieo there is one Prussian State coin listed at present but it is worn. Wilhelm I of Prussia became Kaiser/Emporer of Germany in 1871, then his son Wilhem II followed until the end of the first World War.. Therefore their coins are relatively common compared to other German States coinage. It may be best to wait until a silver two or three Mark coin is listed or try a Wellington dealer..

Is there any Wellington dealers that are better than others??? any advice would be great.

julieo - 2013-01-18 21:09:00
1244

Sorry, I have no advice on Wellington dealers.

I'll have a poke about the place and see if I can lay hands on anything that fills the bill. I did sell a few on here a year or two ago. Maybe have a look through expired auctions and see if any have sold recently to get some idea of prices.

Coins prices can appear pretty arbitrary. Cars offer a good correlative. Imagine a 45-year-old car selling for $200,000. Hard to imagine if it's a Nissan Sunny or similar, not so hard of it's a Shelby Fastback with factory-original parts and paint.
