I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

Morning ladies, well I had all good intentions of mowing lawns today, but it seems to be raining at the moment, the road is wet, but it is only very light, might be okay after lunch to do it, otherwise I'll leave it for another day and find something else to do. Oh, it's just getting heavier!

Looks like our mid-winter Christmas is postponed, because for various reasons half the people who were invited can't come. Never mind. We'll either have it later, or just do something different.

Had a phone call from my friend to say she's clear of cancer and doesn't need to have chemo or any other treatment, just regular check ups, so she is over the moon. I'm so pleased for her. She sounded so excited, a bit different to when she phoned me a month ago and told me she had to have the op.

Yes Jayemtoo, my sympathies about your visit to the wool shop - talking of wool, I received another squishy parcel yesterday, so that's only two people who haven't sent my winnings, and one of them said they had a sick child and were going to send it that day (that was over a week ago).

Time to do something useful.

Have a super day.

Good afternoon - chilly at the dog park today made me walk a bit quicker
Our forecast is rain all weekend so the dog will develop cabin fever - I should go and rake some of the leaves up before it rains - love the big trees around me but they do drop piles of leaves
That's a pity about your mid winter do Kuaka but no doubt you will find another reason to all get together - just talking to my sister this morning about Mums 100th - she hasn't recovered very well from her fall so we think we will keep it low key at one of our homes - as usual she wants KFC - the great grandchildren love her!
Watched another lovely movie last night A Streetcat named Bob - about a recovering drug addict - very very good movie - my granddaughter is making good choices for me -
Well those leaves are not going to move themselves

morning ladies :) We've decided next month (August) I'll paint one of the bedrooms, we have enough white paint for the windows and ceiling and sealant left over from me painting two years ago. And MrK is going to build a corner book shelf so our books can go back up on shelves again. I've had a lady come out and measure up for curtains so when she gets back from her holiday we'll choose the curtain fabric so we can work from there for the wall colour. I hate sewing curtains and paying someone to do it saves my sanity.

Housework today and that includes pulling out beds and dressing tables.

It's cold outside so knitting this afternoon.

Happy knitting :)

Morning Ladies,
Wow Kiwimade it doesnt feel like 2 years since you dod all the other painting.. Time flies these days.. In saying that tho we have had our New Carpet just over a year too, and it was a year on queens birthday weelend since the windows on the car were broken.

Has been raining through the night, MrP said it thundered, I didnt hear it. Windy out there now too. but its quite mild.

I seem to have lost my mojo with knitting and crochet at the mo. Im sure it will come back, well hopefully lol. I see Loveknitting has up to 70% off at the mo.. I certainly dont need any more wool lol.

MrP is still in bed, so he will miss his hair appointment. We make an appointment and then we know it will get done lol... Oh well another day tomorrow.

Have a fab day everyone

Afternoon ladies, I set the alarm for 6 as I had to be up early to pick my friend up from the airport just after 9 and didn't want to be rushing. Of course I woke at 2.15, couldn't get back to sleep and got up at 5, fluffed around and as I was walking out the door thought "I should have checked to make sure the flight is on time - oh of course it will be!" Got to the airport and was told it was 45 minutes late - hadn't even left Auckland - but I had my knitting, so got some of that done.

Planned to go for a walk when I got back but by the time I was ready it was raining so flagged that away.

Mah jong at the club this afternoon, wasn't going because there were 4 already playing but called into the op shop for some jam jars so I can make lemon curd (I have the lemons for a lemon meringue pie for tonight which isn't going to happen now) and the lady there asked if I was playing. I said I wasn't as there were 4 already, and she said she would prefer to go home as her son is coming up this afternoon, so I'm playing instead of her.

So I had better get myself to the club. Weather is pretty miserable. If I wasn't going to the club I would be knitting.

Enjoy the day despite the weather.

Skeinz has a "naked" range and there is a thickish one but not sure if it is a 12ply they also have Ashford 12ply - you can check it out on line too.
Happy hunting.

morning ladies and welcome bennybullet, I hope you find what you are looking for.

I have another busy day planned with cleaning the oven and sorting through more of my teaching stuff. Some I can give away but my old text books are out of date now. MrK is going to sort through the 'top cupboard' above the water cylinder as he spotted where a rat has chewed in the ceiling. Might just leave him too it!

I haven't picked my needles up for days, now I know I am bored with the pattern.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
Have had alot of rain in the last 24 hours.. Would have been alot of surface flooding but the council actually cleaned the gutters and gully traps mid week. Normally its a mess after so much rain. mild again this morning.

I havent crochet for a few days either Kiwimade.. Just cant be bothered lol.

MIght put some wool away, the stuff from the lotto and from a swap. Im getting a good collection of the flurry. Now I have to wait for the new craze to come in..

Not sure if MrP has remembered he needs his hair cut.. Ill remain quiet about it lol..

Have a fab day everyone

Morning - heavy rain on the night but sky is slowly clearing but forecast is for more rain so might go out for our walk between the showers
Had an email from a friend in Bathurst - their top temp yesterday was 1 deg - not missing that neither is Ash I might add
Well my crochet had gone backwards undid 20 rounds just wasn't happy with my colour placement - my sister has decided the reason I unpick stuff so often is because my mother who did the most exquisite handiwork always used to find fault with anything we made - I don't remember it - do remember her telling my knitting was too loose so when I was knitting with fine wool to knit into the back of the knit stitch which I still do -
I need a haircut Popeye pity I dont just around the corner could pinch MrPs appointment - my son laughed at me complaining about haircut prices he said I would fsint if I knew how much his wife spends on her hair
I was going to suggest skeinz as well for the home spun look a like wool - am sure I saw some there
Better get cracking the morning is running away with me and I have a lot of crochet to redo!

Morning Ladies, wet and grey sky here today.. Yes! a late start this morning. Mr S didn't have a very good night,so has only not long up.Have to make a visit to the Laundry Mat sometime today.

Not sure if it's the time of year or the weather, I have been undoing a lot of my knitting and weaving lately as well. Over a week since I have had needles in my hands. The sewing machine is out and waiting for me. Just maybe this afternoon after a visit to the lib to return unread books.

It's the start of a month so here hoping we can get into our crafts and enjoy what we want to do....
Kiwimade you have not long to go now to the end of term. You will keep yourself busy and enjoy it. You still have your students coming and going and you both enjoy showing them around our country.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Oven is sparkling, I don't want to use it now lol. Doesn't take all that long to clean once I get cracking and stop putting it off. MrK has cleaned out the top cupboard and we've thrown out a lot of stuff we haven't used for years. And we've placed more rat bait in the ceiling. I've thrown out/burnt a lot of old uni stuff and have a pile of teaching stuff to give away and another pile to put on TM later today/tomorrow.

Time for a sit down I think.

Kiwimade - my airfryer even though it's playing up at the moment is the best oven Cleaner I have found - never turn the oven on now unless I am having visitors - do everything in it from a hard boiled egg to a small batch of scones - dont have to wait until the oven heats up - the bowl thing and basket go in the dishwasher - a lazy ladies dream appliance

gerry64 - 2017-07-02 15:09:00
12265

That sounds like a most useful gadget Gerry, might have to think about investigating one.

Had a good walk to the library as had run out of reading matter. Onto second jersey for great- niece but they look a bit big but won't restart as she is growing and they are going to England for Christmas so she will need warm clothes then but I'll need to get a bit more wool and do something for now. Would like to get them done this week as going to,Wellington next weekend. With this colder weather good for knitting and reading.

I seldom use our oven too. I have one of those glas bowl turbo cookers. Ive had them for the last 21ish years. Must be on the 5th or 6th one now. But only one has ever been brought brand new. The rest are from garage sales or the opp shop. And they have all been like brand new.

Enjoyed our stuffed sausages for tea.

Am having a bit of a cook off tomorrow. MrP would like some apple strudel, so Ill make a bacon and egg pie at the same time. And I want to make a friend some cheese and bacon muffins, so will do a double batch and since the oven will be on Ill thro in a couple of fruit loaves which has orange jelly in and really easy and cheap to make cos it makes two.

So I will do some of the prep in the morning before I go to get my stitches out, and buy some Kumara.. I NEED Kumara lol

Then I shouldnt be so tired from the cooking.

Have a good night everyone

morning ladies :) Well all my teaching stuff is boxed and ready to be given to our son's friend who is a junior teacher. So now I have an empty wardrobe.

So all that took me until after dinner so once more, no knitting for me. I have a friend calling in this morning and I want to mow the lawn (weather permitting) today. I found a bedside lamp while sorting stuff so will take it in to an electrician to make sure it's safe to use. I can't remember why we stashed it away so better safe than sorry. Will pay the Furry One's rego while in town too.

I must find time to knit today.

A wild old night here and its still dark and wet.

Still no crochet for me, but maybe later when Im havign to sit lol.

Ive got to go get my Kumara this morning and then get the stitches out. Its such a tiny spot with 3 stitches but shes done a lovely job, its flat which is good.
Ive got the tins and trays etc ready to cook. If I break it down I wont be standing so long.

Nice to be able to pass everything along isnt it Kiwimade.

Good morning - lovely morning bit chilly but beautiful blue skies
Your cooker thing sounds much the same Popeye - have bought plenty of gadgets in my time Jayemtoo but this definitely is perfect for somebody on their own or a couple -this is the second one I have had - old boy gave my old simple small wind the clock round one away and bought the new digital model - Philips are replacing mine - it was a faulty something or other which they have rectified - so that's good
I learned something new about my coffee machine today if you don't put the milk thingee in straight you have a lovely milk fountain spraying your microwave above !
Popeye your baking sounds delicious
I unpicked from row 51 of my bkanket back to row 24 - now back up to row 36 - chuckling away to myself can hear MR G telling me what an idiot I am but it does look better - will log on my computer later and post some photos - I can do everything on my iPad except load pictures on here!
Have a good day everybody

what a morning! I've burnt old receipts and papers I don't want flapping about at the rubbish tip and when the ashes have cooled down, it can all go into the compost bins. My friend has been and gone, she wants MrK to make her a box to store her mum's ashes in. And the lawns are mowed. MrK is dropping off another box he made for our nieghbour... buggar! I bet he never took a photo for his FB page. Oh well. When he comes back he said he will help me put the mower into the boot of the car as it desperately needs a service. So another thing to do in town later.

Must be time for lunch surely!

Yep lunchtime here.

Went and got the kumara, a bag that weighed 965 grams for $7.. they were $8-49 a kilo at the fruit shop and NW. There is 7 in the bag so $1 each.. Ill be greedy and have two tonight lol Im doing the pork in the glass cooker, will debone that before I start the baking. I have everything set and ready to throw together.
Stitches took a little getting out, and one was missing in action. Cos I didnt know if the nurse actually got one out on friday. Julie the nurse said its going to be a nice flat scar, and if I keep it covered it will keep it that way.

Right a play on here and then into the kitchen.

We're off to visit MrK's brother-in-law in hospital today. He broke his femur and is having a hip replacement op on Friday. And I have another yoga class this evening, just love it!

I'm going to find a pretty shawl pattern to knit this yak yarn in, I'm bored silly with the pattern I'm currently knitting.

Happy knitting :)

I spent a lovely afternoon in the kitchen yesterday. Totally enjoyed myself . will cut the bacon and egg pie up and pop that in the freezer.

Otherwise a nice relaxing day and I am in the mood to get back to crochet

Afternoon ladies, don't know where the time has gone the last couple of days. I had a call from a friend who needed me to help her sort out her knitting, so I've just got back from her place. She couldn't understand the pattern, but she hadn't done anything wrong, just wasn't confident enough to take the next step. All sorted now.

So lunch, then I'm off to mah jong.

Went to the club last night, had two frames of snooker, got beaten in both, but they were both "black to win" so close points, I was quite chuffed to be reasonable competition for a better player than me.

Received one more squishy package yesterday, so there is only one outstanding. Seeing as they are supposed to be sent by the 14th of last month, I'm not holding my breath.

Better go, have a super afternoon and evening everyone.

I have a few things to do first though. The car needs a good clean as our friend's wee dog left her paw prints all over the seats and there's sand from the beach the other day. Will do a bit of baking so I can shout morning tea tomorrow, two more days in the classroom.

I thought I had the beginning of a sore throat but that seems to have gone thank goodness.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,
Well done on the snooker Kuaka. I miss playing 8ball. The senior citz club had a pool table. Ive always loved playibng it. We lived next to a pub so we played alot there when kids .

Glad the throat hasnt progressed Kiwimade. There seems to be a few nasty bugs going around.

Got what I needed to get done yesterday. Including adding 14 more rows to the poncho. will be getting some blue wool out this morning to whip up some wrist warmers.

MrP was in a horrible mood yesterday. Appears to be better today. For some silly reason he sees it as weak to go and have a nana nap. But I reminded him last night that the Hospital advises all heart patients to have a rest in the afternoon.. So he felt better after that.

Right a play on here, then a few dishes and some crochet.

It's my first shawl too. Nice to be excited about what's on my needles again. So thanks for the push in the right direction, sunflowers.

Not a frost but overcast, be nice if it clears.
Yes the link didn't work but I googled "charity patterns" and there are lots of good straight forward patterns I'll have a better look when wider awake.

Pushing on with little garments that I want to get finished this week - onto my 4th cardy for great niece so that will be it.

Brought some wool for jersey for a boy and had the pattern for it planned then Thought that it looked sort of familiar, fortunately I take photos of what I have made and where it goes, I checked and had already made one in same wool, pattern and size for him. Don't think he needs 2 identical ones!

Morning everyone.
Wet here but very mild temp wise.

According to MrP it was the same 71 years ago when he was born. lol.

I got my longer wrist warmers done yesterday in a sparkly teal blue colour. And of course its not cold enough to wear them today lol.

HAve got the second ball out for the poncho. So will do some of that later. My mojo is back.

Have fun at School Kiwimade.

Only a very small shop today, I need to save money for Monday when I take MrP to the super clinic, cos I plan on stopping at the fruit shop and stocking up.

morning ladies, last day of term today so lots of excited kids about.

The garden centre phoned yesterday to say the two roses I ordered have arrived so I'll pick them up after school. Can't wait to get them planted. Both are climbers, Blueberry Hill is a frilly lavender rose and Long John Silver a prolific white flowering rose. My plan is for the white rose to grow through the maple tree.

I'm beavering away on my shawl, have a problem reading patterns though, guess my reading glasses need updating.

The magpies are just beginning to squawk, found a dead one in the garden the other day and I suspect it taunted the Furry One one too many times.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, and what a beautiful morning it looks after yesterday. Must admit I had a bit of an off day yesterday (or a flat battery day as popeye would say). Had an upset tummy and spent half the morning running to the loo, hope it wasn't as a result of what I ate for lunch at the Chinese restaurant the day before.

Decided I would make use of a spare curtain by shortening it and cutting it in half down the middle, which I did, but I didn't open the pleats out enough so even though it's in two equal pieces, I won't be able to open one side out as much as the other because there's no spare cord, it's all on one curtain! Talk about dopey. Anyway, it's only a temporary job until I redecorate the stairwell (probably have to pay someone to do that for me) and then I will buy some new fabric for the curtain.

Still haven't made the lemon curd that I planned to make with the lemons I had for the lemon meringue pie which I didn't make, so maybe I will do that today (and the curtain).

Had someone complain about a scarf they bought on another site, said they weren't happy, it is "messy" down one side. I think she just changed her mind. I've told her to send it back for a refund so we will see if she does. I don't think I've ever knitted anything which is "messy". Takes all sorts.

Have a super day everyone.

Afternoon all - grey damp day here - no walking in the park today so logged on and took a couple of photos of the blanket I am making paige -and poor old neglected dolly - she didn't even get a good photo - her leg stripes look grey but they are actually a very pretty mauve - the two balls of mohair are the hair colour choices

I LOVE the blanket. Is it all just trebles? I wonder if I could manage that, cos your photo shows the sitching quite well. What is the name of it please?

Popeye if you can do a Peggy square you could do this - it is single and double crochet and a few hdc - which is so simple - it is called Tides of change - it's a free pattern on ravelry - Frank ORandle is the designer - if you can't find it I will put up the link - honestly it is just short pattern changes to remember - when you see on ravelry some of the beautiful colours some people have used - and he has a Facebook page - he pops on and answers queries so do other lovely people making his designs - he has never ending patience -

Morning ladies, gerry that blanket is absolutely gorgeous, might have to download the pattern, but I know I won't get round to doing it just yet awhile.

Well my day didn't turn out as planned yesterday. Was having my breakfast when one of the neighbours phoned and invited me out for lunch, along with another of the neighbours and one of her friends (who I'd never met before). She had a $100 voucher from a restaurant in Kerikeri and decided we should use it. So had a lovely lunch and some wine, and ended up back at her place where we had more wine and so much fun, we were in hysterics (luckily I was able to walk down the hill back home)

I had better get myself organised, I'm at the op shop this morning.

Might try to finish my curtains this afternoon.

Have a super day everyone.

Oh yes, popeye, I've seen those square knitting needles, but haven't tried them, not sure that I would like them.

kuaka - 2017-07-08 08:04:00
12292

morning ladies :) What gorgeous knitting and crochet Gerry, I love your colour choices for both of them! Will 'pop over' to Ravelry and check out Frank O'Randle's designs later this morning.

I picked up my rose bushes on the way home yesterday and they are narley roses lol, lots of thorns but perfect for what I want. I'm hoping to plant them today, the ground has all been prepared so it won't take long.

Yes popeye, spring is just around the corner, I've noticed lots of growing too, the hyacinths and freesias are up and the daffs are almost 'there'. Might be winter but still lots happening outside.

I unpicked my knitting to much laughter by MrK (he always teases me about my unpicking) but am happier with it now. I won't be so stubborn this time and keep my crafting light on over my shoulder.

Happy knitting :)

Morning
Well the sun is out after a rather dull and wet day yesterda but was good for crafting after I had done all the messages in town. I'm onto socks again as have several lots of sock wool that I dyed a while ago.
The blanket and doll are great Gerry.

Have to clean the car as 2 sisters and I are heading to Wellington tomorrow and then over to Nelson for a week's break away. We haven't done this for many years so just hope the 2 BiL keep well so we can enjoy our "reminiscing" holiday.

Not too sure about the square needles either - I'd like to try them at some stage I read a review about them and they are supposedly less stress on joints although can't see how that is.

Im waiting for a fine day to prune the roses, still lol

I dont have anything planned for today. There is washing on, but Ill dry that tonight, so the heat warms the bedrooms.

Good morning - yes it is a beautiful blue sky day - my grandson is complaining they cancelled all school boy rugby yesterday when the weather was awful and today is perfect rugby weather - the season is so short he doesn't want to miss a game
Thank you for your comments about my blanket - MrG would be pleased with it he wanted it to look like the sea and it does I think
Popeye I have seen photos of it done in DK ends up double be size not queen size - have seen a photo of one done in 4 ply - a baby blanket - white with where I have got dark blue they had this pretty salmon pink looked stunning - some of his patterns are amazing and having his Facebook page to pop on if you have a problem is a life saver -
Well there will be no excuses for not going to the park today when it warms up a bit

Well I received the scarf back today - I can't see anything at all wrong with it. I will refund her money but I think she just changed her mind. I've already placed feedback for her and I don't think I can change or remove it without contact the website admin. Will wait and see what feedback she gives me.

morning ladies :) Square knitting needles just seem odd to me, I'd give them a go just to say I have tried using them though.

Some people are just fussy kuaka and if there was nothing wrong with the scarf, then I would say you are right and she has changed her mind. Why she can't say that heaven knows.

We were in Greerton, Tauranga, yesterday and the yarn bombing there was amazing. So we stopped so I could take pics. I know there are some who think it is a waste of yarn/wool, but it does highlight different charities in a fun way and I think winter is bleak is enough.

Morning everyone
Great pictures Kiwimade.. I guess to me its a waste of wool, But for a terrific Idea. Raising awareness for very good causes.

Yeah sounds like the lady changed her mind to me too. Silly woman, I hope she gets a cold neck lol.

Had a quiet day yesterday, and its looking much the same for today. I did get some crochet done while watching recorded tv. Only have Wentworth and Call the midwife to watch now. Both my favourite shows.

Another wet day, I cant see much growth on the lawn. Wow its really pouring down at the mo.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning ladies, we are supposed to have a wet day today, well morning anyway, but I think we copped it all in the night, we had some really torrential bursts last night before I went to bed, and at one stage it was so heavy in the night it woke me.

Haha popeye, yes, I hope she gets a cold neck too - hadn't thought of it quite like that. Stupid woman hasn't sent me her bank account details either, she seems a bit dippy. If she hasn't sent them by Wednesday I will send her a cheque and she will have to bank it. Can't remember the last time I wrote a cheque.

I didn't watch Call the Midwife on Friday - came home late from lunch and promptly fell asleep so I must watch it "on demand".

Going to have a tidy up and vacuum, and have a couple of sewing jobs to do - supposed to be going for a walk with the neighbours after lunch but looking at the sky I don't like our chances unless it rains and clears by then.

Think I'll have a coffee before I do anything else.

Have a super day everyone.

Oh yes, re the yarn bombing - it's not so much the waste of yarn, but rather the waste of time from my point of view, it's eye-catching to see but personally I prefer to make things that are more practical. jmtcw

Morning
Yes Kuaka cheques certainly aren't used much these days. I do have a cheque book still but a very long time since last used. The silly lady must have changed her mind.

Cold and wet here and I think its going to be like that as we head south. Im all packed and just waiting for sister from Hamilton to arrive then we will pick up the other sister and head to Wellington. Just hope the rain flattens the sea for when we cross Cook Straight tomorrow - I'm no sailor! We are going to Nelson where our Mother's family comes from and we spent many holidays on Grandad's farm as kids. Then to Blenheim where we lived as children. Hope not too many arguments over what we remember haha.

Have packed enough wool for socks so have knitting to keep me going and if run out thats a good excuse to investigate wool shops.
